So I am having a strange thing going on with my V10. The screen will fade in and out. Its not the brightness and I have my auto dim unchecked so before anyone says to check that it's not it.
So for instance while writing this it has done it twice and both times it dims and the keyboard goes away and it goes back to normal and I have to hit my finger somewhere somewhere so the keyboard comes back.
I have already done a Factory restart and it's still going on
It has done it a Total of 5 times now.
Please of someone knows what this is I need help.

My unlocked v10 also did/does the screen fade in&out strange thing. I do believe its paypal and similar apps e.g. google wallet/android pay. Ive yet to soft/hard rest the phone but have uninstalled the apps a few times then reinstalled them to see what happend. Im thinking/guessing what happens is maybe its an indicator of some sort of tracking thingy im not sure but what makes me think that is if you uninstall those apps reinstall them and only log in with one account on the device it wouldnt do it but the moment i log into my wifes paypal it did the screen thingy...hmmm any input???

Hi,
I've only had my Nexus S for a couple of days and loving it so far, but this morning I had a problem. Here's how it happened:
When my alarm clock went off I hit the snooze button and turned the screen off, went back to sleep. 10 minutes later the alarm went off again later as expected and so I hit snooze again and turned the screen off like before. 5 minutes later I decided to get up as otherwise I would have been late for work, so I go to my phone to disable the alarm as otherwise it would be buzzing when I'm in the shower and the missus would get annoyed. The problem however was that I couldn't unlock the screen! I was jabbing at the power button repeatedly to get it to come on but no response at all. I ending up removing the battery. I should also add that my phone was plugged in a the time as I'd left it charging over night.
Has this ever happened to anyone else? I will try and replicate the problem. Here's how my phone is at the moment:
All my homescreens are bare apart from the main one where I have a 4 shortcuts, google search bar and the analogue clock widget. Apps I currently have installed are: Ebay official, facebook official, Twitter official, 3G watchdog, Fruit Ninja, Angy Birds, Live Holdem, Google maps, Gmail Unread Count, Movies, TV Guide.
I'm hoping that this problem was just a one-off.
Thanks
sort of same here. i bought it last thursday and today i can't use the lower part of the screen, right where the phone, menu and browser icons are. Space bar won't work when writing text, etc.
If anyone knows how to fix, pls share
The device is stock 2.3.3, i9023XXKB1, didn't root.

I have been using Nexus S for 4 months now, and I do have random reboots once in a while. Did the phone well work after the reboot?

I never had responsive problem on my phone other than the phone just freezing... Maybe theres something wrong, go ask Samsung.
unfortunately i also have such a problem now! since this morning my screen does not respond on touch correctly...it is very hard to unlock the screen (have to do it very slowly, bar is jumping like crazy) and after that it seems like the screen is reacting even on any reflection, suddenly the status bar is coming down, if i am in a menu, it always scrolls down and up...damned, that sux!
any ideas what i could do? or is this a case for samsung support?
ps: i did not flash anything in the last days, i even restored my nandbackup, that i made after 2.3.4-update (no custom kernel, no nothing), but that did not change anything...
Was browsing the web and the phone flickered. Then all of a sudden I cant automatically rotate the screen when I turn my phone to the side. Anything that involves rotating the screen doesn't work right...pics YouTube etc. Did several soft resets and a hard reset and auto rotate is deaf checked on in the settings. Verizon wants to send me a used phone when I paid for a new one not even a month ago.
This happened to me once, I had to physically pull the battery out, but was good after that
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Tried that several times...night luck

I am having the same problem! Auto-rotate setting is on, I've tried soft reset, battery pull, re-callibration, etc. Just not a hard reset yet.

Hard reset did nothing...I read g2 owners had the problem also but I don't know how they corrected it.
Go to Settings > Display, then calibrate the gyroscope. Mine got stuck on landscape mode, and that fixed mine. Don't know if it'll work but it's worth a shot.

tried that and same results.
Well double-check to see that auto-rotate screen is checked... if it's checked and you've re-calibrated your gyroscope, your sensor just may be busted. In that case, have fun calling VZW arguing with them why they're sending you a used GS3 when you haven't even had yours a month lol. Or you can mail it in to Samsung for your warranty service.
Has anybody ever seen anything like this? I'm experiencing a black box popping up maybe 20 seconds or so after booting that is unclosable with lorem ipsum text in it, here are some screenshots:
[xda won't let me post links yet so bear with me and fill in the rest of these urls]

The box cannot be closed, and anything above it doesn't respond to touch input, but everything below it can still be used (like the shortcuts to chrome, contacts, etc. in the last screenshot). This box persists everywhere, including the lock screen.
Additionally, when I go to the lock screen the screen starts turning on and off rapidly, forcing me to reboot by holding the power and volume down key into maintenance mode.
I am able to start the phone in safe mode with no problems (safe mode disables all apps that aren't samsung or google), making me believe it's a third party app that is causing the issue and not something in android. But before I begin the awful task of uninstalling apps one by one to see which is the one that's causing the issue I figured I'd turn to reddit for help.
Additional info: I'm on verizon, the phone is rooted and I'm on 5.0.2
Flash with stock 5.1.1 ROM via odin.
Update: If you're reading this from the future it was cerberus, the security app. Really ****ing pissed because I uninstalled just about everything else because I didn't want to uninstall my security app until I had my phone back at my house (just tempting fate too much). Oh well, at least I've figured it out.
has anyone run across this issue when you set a specific time out, the screen dims after the specified time but does not lock, it stays on?
my phone was working just fine, stock not rooted, took the latest update and after that i've been having nothing but weird issues, the other day the notification area at the top was not working, i had to basically check every app, messages etc manually to see updates, had to factory reset the damn thing, now this screen issue, the phones is only 1 month old.
any input?
thanks
I'm having very weird issues with screen lock. I'm be on the phone and the device will randomly lock and not let me unlock it without restarting the phone.
The new update is when it all started. I don't want to do a factory reset, but it's looking like I might have to?
Be warned, posting for the wife... so a lot of this information is second hand.
Pixel has become unresponsive with a black screen twice over the last month. Screen is black, no response to fingerprint, double tap to wake, or power print press, or power point for a "few seconds" (not 30).
Plug the device in, walk away, it beeps with a notification sometime later and appears back to normal.
Battery history shows no big dip in battery and doesn't have the telltale gap in time indicating a reboot. My best guess is a rogue app, but I'm stumped as to how I might troubleshoot given the drastic intermittence, and the fact that it's never happened when I'm around so I can't even call the phone to see if it's receiving calls or similar. Any one have advice at logs to look at or other steps to take to try and figure it out?
Thanks!

try booting into safe mode - This will block any third party apps. If the problem doesn't occur in safe mode, I'd recommend a factory reset and then reinstall apps in batches of 5, run for a few days, and if the problem doesn't reappear, keep adding apps 5 at a time. This will help narrow it down to which app is causing problems.
Good luck!

Problem with that approach is that the issue happens approximately 1x every 15 days. I'd like to think some log would capture information on misbehaving apps that the OS has to swap out.
