No, you cannot use Nexus 5 on Verizon - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This seems to be a very popular Question. I'm here to tell you I've tried all options and been unsuccessful. Please stop asking in the general forum. If you have a "trick" or "idea" you want to try just post in here and I'll try it for you if I haven't already. But, I've likely tried it.
My Nexus 5 is on the latest Jan 2016 version of Marshmallow 6.0.1 - I have 2 Verizon SIM cards which are fully activated and working in other devices; One is a Nano SIM and the other is a Micro SIM. I also have TMobile and Project Fi SIM cards and have traveled extensively so tried many other SIM cards. Here are the results:
Micro Verizon SIM does NOT work in the Nexus 5 regardless of APN settings.
Nano Verizon SIM with Adapter does NOT work in Nexus 5 regardless of settings.
Calls to Customer and Technical Support result in VZW's response: They will NOT "add the IMEI to the database"... Perhaps I just haven't talked to the right people but nobody has been able to do this. I haven't visited a store yet but I'm doubtful they will either.
TMobile SIM works perfectly with no configuration required.
Project Fi full access SIM with Adapter works fine with zero configuration. (This is the SIM I use daily in this phone)
Project Fi Data Only SIM with adapter works when you use the Manual APN settings on their support page.
Vodaphone AU SIM (Prepaid) works fine without any configuration
Vodaphone NL SIM (Prepaid) with adapter works fine with no configuration
TMobile UK SIM works fine with no configuration.
If you have a Nexus 5 then just go get Project Fi or other confirmed working service.
Let's put this to bed. It won't work on Verizon.

[Q] Just bought a D6633 question about Nano SIM with ATT

So after much research deciding between a new Moto X and a Z3 I found a great deal on a D6633 and pulled the trigger and should have it later this week.
My questions is regarding the Nano SIM the phone uses, right now I have an HTC ONE M7 which uses a micro SIM. I have read many threads and people say if they request a new NANO SIM or if they go in the store and get a NANO SIM they have issues getting the phone working on LTE (I think its because ATT does ntot sell the Z3 so they have a hard time registering the IMEI correctly). Most people just say to use your current SIM and don't say anything to ATT. So if I wanted to go that route my only option would be to cut my current SIM, I had tried to do that before and the cutter I used destroyed my SIM card.
So people with experience getting the D6633 working on ATT what route did you go, if I were to try and cut my SIM I would get a much better cutter this time around but it still makes me a bit nervous with my past experience trying it. If you got a new NANO SIM how much of a hassle was it to get working on LTE and do you have any tips to make my transition more smooth.
Thanks!
I can not speak for ATT, but I came from the Nexus 5 which also used a micro sim. I used a scissor to cut it and it works flawlessly!

AT&T should be able to give you a nano sim, as the iPhone 6/6+ use the same, they should have some in stock. I do not see why it would cause LTE issues.
AT&T should be able to use the IMEI in their system for the M7 and assign that to the Nano sim. I had an AT&T micro sim in my T-Mobile unlocked Note 3, went into the store with my Developer edition Moto X and asked for a new nano sim. They didn't ask me for either of my phones - just transferred whatever IMEI was in their system to the nano, handed it over and then waited while I booted up the Moto X to confirm everything was working and didn't even charge me for the new sim card. If they run into issues just tell them to use an IMEI off one of the demo phones in their showroom.

I think that is based on old information. Back in the day when I was trying to get a micro-SIM provisioned for LTE with my (unbranded) Sony Xperia ZL, the store rep had to use the IMEI from his own AT&T Branded Xperia TL for me.
Last week I went in to get a nano-SIM for my Z3, the store rep just entered its IMEI into their system, and I got LTE right away.
One thing to be aware of is that you also need to enable LTE in the phone itself:
Settings -> Wireless & Networks/More... -> Mobile networks -> Network Mode -> LTE (preferred)/WCDMA/GSM
And of course you need a D6503/D6603, with support for AT&T's LTE frequencies.

Dual Sim

Has anyone used this feature? It was one of the reasons I got the phone - I'm planning on moving my landline number to the phone. AT&T said they don't support dual sims (if it works it works, if it doesn't - sorry!). So I thought I'd ask to see if anyone is using dual sims (preferably with AT&T) and how the experience is going .. thanks!

I have two sims in it since day one - works great!
I made this little video of how Dual Sim cards works on this phone:
You can switch data source without taking sims out (in settings)
2 AT&T sims will work just fine - it does not matter who the carrier iss as long as phone can read the sim cards. I use two t-mobile sims. People here have both t-mo and AT&T sims in.
Can't help you when it comes to AT&T as I'm in Australia these days, but we've had mixed results. My wife has a Blu Pure XL and I use a OnePlus 2. Both of us have SIMs on Virgin (Optus reseller) and Telstra - mine are prepaid, hers are postpaid.
In her case, having both SIMs activated leaves her primary Virgin SIM nearly useless. She can surf the web but no other apps work over broadband (including Email, Hangouts, Location services). If she takes it to a Virgin store and finds a sympathetic employee, he/she can go and "reset the back end" of her account and everything starts working again - for about a day or so. Other employees simply check the settings and proclaim it's a software problem with her OS.
In my case, everything works normally - except when I'm at home. When at home I need to disable the Telstra SIM (data-only) on my OP2 in order for the Virgin SIM to work in any capacity. I've checked and my local tower supports 2G, FWIW.
Of course, Australia and the U.S. are not known for dual-SIM phones - they're more popular in countries where you can't rely on having coverage from any one company as you move about. It's arguable that dual SIM phones potentially cut into the market of any individual mobile provider, so I doubt you'll find anyone willing to support them.
I doubt any provider will actively block the feature, but if some quirk of their setup causes you a problem, you're probably on your own.
For what it's worth, I've seen both the OnePlus 2 and the Blu Pure XL use dual SIMs perfectly well. Just - not all the time!

Project FI Data-only SIM

Has anyone tried one of these in a Xoom and did you get it to work?
Background on this question is that I have a Verizon 4G zoom. It has a mini data sim slot. At one time I had it working on the Verizon network. I have long since cancelled that account and have been using Omni ROM on it with WiFi only.
I recently bought a Nexus 6P and have Project FI as my carrier. On FI you can get a data-only SIM and use it in a limited set of devices. Some people have gotten it to work in other devices by adding the Project FI APN. I have not found anything yet where someone tried this with a Xoom.
I ordered a data-only SIM and a nano to mini SIM adapter. Hopefully I can get it to work. I will update when the orders come in and I can give this a try.

eSIM/dual SIM on AT&T variant

Got my AT&T variant today. Doesn't look like eSIM funcationality is enabled. Second IMEI and eSIM shown but greyed out and no way to activate. Is this true? If so, does anyone know if unlocked version allows for eSIM use so you can get dual sim? I need dual SIM for both US (AT&T) and international travel (Singapore).
no dual sim on unlocked version either

Really? Why put the eSIM in if you're just going to disable it?
well that's a bummer. Hopefully someone will come up with some firmware or we'll see a country release the 4G version of the phone that will work in the US and support dual SIM. I do, however, use wifi calling a lot and right now the iPhone seems to be the only choice that can be AT&T wifi calling compatible and dual sim.
Thanks for letting me know - i also had an order for the unlocked variant that I will cancel.

Pixel 4/4XL unlocked versions (as well as bought thru AT&T) will do Wi-Fi calling and HD Voice on AT&T (sometimes requires a little work on your part to bug AT&T).
Also, I cannot find anyway to do Wi-Fi calling on the Flip, let alone HD Voice, though it is perfectly clear with calls I have made so far.
I bought the ATT version of the flip so getting wifi calling. I didn’t think Pixel 4 was dual sim? Before various bans, I had decent luck getting HD voice on Huwawei phones but never WiFi calling unless ATT firmware (or iPhone)

Typical AT&T treatment of BYOD with regards to Wi-Fi.
Pixel 4's are physical SIM and eSIM.
Basically you can (if you find a tech who can/will) provision the account with an IMEI that supports those features, and your SIM is current, it will/should work. My 4XL is currently set up like this (and previous Pixels as well).
Thx didn’t know about the pixel 4 - I did the same thing with IMEI numbers. I bought a cheap galaxy phone from ATT for the sole purpose of having an IMEI that shows ATT. It won’t help WiFi calling which needs firmware support but has consistently gotten HD voice to work. Hopefully a different variant of the flip will show up with dual sim support that can be used on the ATT network

Slightly off topic, but if you have a minute, could you post where the setting(s) for Wi-Fi calling actually are (if there is any), I'm curious to see if they are on mine (I can't find any as of yet).
Thanks.
It gave me the option to setup when I ran. Y hone setup. It’s all under connections in setting or you can search setting for WiFi calling. I believe this is only available with the ATT firmware

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious, and yes, seems its only on AT&T branded device(s).
On the unlocked version, I was able to access the hidden SIM manager menu using Activity Launcher and enable the second SIM. However, even after doing so, it doesn't seem that I can do much with it.
I saw same you can see it but it's not really enabling it (under about phone, esim is still greyed out). I bought a European Version of the phone that is supposed to have dual sim enabled and is arriving tomorrow - I will report back if I can add my AT&T plan to the eSIM and use my SG SIM card on the second line and how it works. Even if I get that to work, i will have to give up wifi calling (since not an AT&T variant of the phone) and usually - Samsung pay doesn't work (but usually google pay does). i will report back. Love the phone but without the ability to use 2 SIMs, it will sadly be doing back.

I thought that the Wi-Fi calling piece was becoming more universally supported, regardless of variant. I have the unlocked version and Verizon Wi-Fi calling (and HD calling) are both working.
Hi, I got one in Czech Republic and the dual sim (eSim/normal Sim) dual standby. the setting for eSIM are under Connections>>Sim card Manager, there should be a section with eSIMS and you select 'add mobile plan' (in CZ you scan the barcode of the eSIM thats provided by the operator). Wifi calling is in the phone app under call settings and can be activated for both sim 1 and sim 2 at the same time
I got the UK version of the phone. I have an AT&T phone number on an eSIM and have the eSIM card (with the QR code). I removed the plan from my old device (a Galaxy Fold Dual SIM I bought in Singapore that worked fine with both SIMS) and then tried to "add the plan" onto my new flip. I scanned the QR code and get the message "Your mobile plan is already being used on another device. For more information, contact your service provider.: I called AT&T and advanced tech support added the new IMEI's(both physical and eSIM) to that number on their end but still getting the error. They were at a loss for a solution. Any ideas on how to fix this? Really love the phone though useless to me without the ability to use an eSIM for my AT&T number.
BTW, yes to calls over LTE (VoLTE) with AT&T SIM on UK variant of the phone and, not surprisingly, no joy on Wifi Calling
You need a new QR code from ATT. If you are using an older QR code it wont work.
Are both SIMs 3G capable?

I gonna buy the UK model and so I can use both my personal and company numbers on one phone.
My company's number is nano sim and the supports 3G and 4G
My personal number is esim and supports 3G and 4G
Neither my personal nor company number network support 2G.
I read somewhere that while Z Flip is dual sim, one of the sims only support 2G. is that right? Can anyone confirm it?
went to AT&T store, moved my old esim (galaxy fold) to a physical sim, activated and tested on physical SIM then converted it again to eSIM (new QR code). Worked! Had trouble going from eSIM to eSIM but converting to physical SIM in the middle of the process (something I read on another forum) fixed it.

Question SIM card doesn't work when travelling despite working on other phones.

I've bought a Redmi Note 11 Pro + 5G. When I'm in country A, the SIM card works fine. When I travel to country B, the SIM card does not work at all. I've tried going to mobile networks to try to register it on an available network, but it says it isn't allowed.
This same SIM card, placed in another Android phone (Samsung Galaxy A52S), works perfectly fine in both countries.
Is there anything I can do to get the SIM card to work in both countries on my Redmi? Can I flash some ROM or change something about the phone to get it to work?
Is a Miui bug i think, I have the same problem when I travel with mi Main SIM (with a secondary SIM of the same company it doesn't happen to me), tomorrow I flash Xiaomi.EU to test if it still works badly.
Very interesting. I'm thinking about travelling abrod, so I'm following this thread...
Thanks for keeping us up to date!
