[Completed] Swap Internal Storage - XDA Assist

First of all, Greetings to everyone at XDA. I have found much helpful information on this site. My current quest is swapping the internal storage with sd card. I had a Huawei Vitria that would put everything on the sd card but I don't remember how. it appears that Lollipop is limited to only moving part of an app. I also noticed that when doing so the size increases. I've tried several methods and the only one that even approaches a good result is apps2sd by Vicky Bronik. Even so, some apps just won't do it. I kept thinking "What's the problem?" Then something wonderful happened. I got my girlfriend an Alcatel One Touch Fierce XL - I know Alcatel really?- but its running a Snapdragon 210, 5.5 inch screen, 8MP camera that takes good shots, 16 gigs of storage, and 5.1.1. Its waaaaay better than that no storage abomination called the L70.
Best of all in the settings it has an option to set the default and preferred storage locations. I put in a formatted sd card, set the options for sd card and rebooted. Lo and behold the storage values swapped places right before my eyes. The 10.5 gigs of internal storage moved down to where the sd card infor is and the 3.14 gigs of the sd card came up to the top. I downloaded a 200MB game - one that I couldn't move on my phone - and all 200 MB went onto the sd card and the game worked. So, how is it that Alcatel was able to bend Lollipop to its will? Is there a way to dig into the code and extract the part that does that and make it into something like an update?
On another note, I have an LG Leon Lte (Metro), is there an app that can improve the performance of the 5 MP camera because as it is it SUCKS big time. I can't even scan a barcode. Now I have a 1st gen Moto G with a 5 MP camera that takes way better shots and has no problem with barcodes. Finally, since I'm on 10f firmware my bootloader is locked. I have seen it posted that you cannot go back to 10b. Why is that?
If there is some possibility of doing something with the Alcatel storage solution I would be happy to provide a copy of the rom if somebody tells me how to copy it.
Thanks in advance for any assistance or insights that may com my way.

[Q] 2GB App Storage?

The HTC One X has 16GB of storage total, but only about 2GB can be used for apps. I don't get it, its all internal memory, why separate it like that? Or is it just similar to my current Android phone where i have 2 separate storage areas, a small amount of phone memory, and SD Card. Should i think of the One X as having phone memory and a built in SD card so to speak. Because on my current phone i can move some apps from phone memory to SD card in Android Settings based off how they work, and some need to stay on the phone. Would this be a similar way that it may work on the One X?

the 10gb partition is basically an sdcard yes. 2gb of app storage is actually a lot. if an app needs extra data, it's saved to the internal memory (10gb).
That's the typical configuration for almost all Android phones. You have system partition where the kernel/OS/system resides. You have app paritition where all apps install to. Then you have the SDcard type storage area where all user/app data stores to.
2GB app partition is quite large. You can also install app to SDcard if you use up all the 2GB space.

This has been covered before, but the reason HTC went this route is to have usb mass storage mode. With one big partion, such as I have on my gtab 10.1 mtp is used, usb mass storage is not an option.
And yes, moving apps to sd works, even large games where most of the data is downloaded afterwords, that data goes to your "sd". In short, the 2gb app partion is plenty.

really?
don't mean to beat a dead horse here, but really, is 2gb enough? i'm on a t-mobile mytouch 4g slide and i might be leaving t-mobile to come to at&t and get the htc one x, but one of my biggest complaints is the storage space. i'm CONSTANTLY having to delete apps to stay above 200mb free (and i have no music on my phone and all pics are on the sd card). right now i have 102 apps/games installed. i find that if i start moving apps/games to sd i start having phone issues (and i know not to move apps that have widgets, but even still, just installing games and stuff still tends to cause freezes and force closes). now the only reason i might be able to trust you guys and take the leap of faith here with the 2gb is that i'm running android 2.3 here... i know that android 4.0 is a totally different beast and things just run amazingly better to begin with (especially with the added hardware of the one x)... so maybe i really don't need to worry about moving some of my bigger games like plants vs zombies and peggle (thats like 150mb right there on the phone storage alone) to sd on this android 4.0 device...
SO... anyone wanna help me feel a little better about this and give me some more assurance that everything is just gonna be ok haha.
thanks
One major difference here is that your T-Mo MyTouch 4G Slide needs to use the slower microSD card for SD storage. Due to the speed difference and general unreliable performance of external SD storage, it could cause issues for apps stored on those external SD cards.
For HOX, there is no external SD card involved. The 10 GB or so storage you can use is from the same NAND chip that is used by the internal 2GB app storage. So, there shouldn't be any problem for moving apps to that storage.

interesting. sounds pretty reasonable. i don't really store any music on my phone other than a few spotify offline playlists, and no movies, so the space would be totally pictures, apps and games... so if what you're saying is true, i guess i shouldn't really worry about the 2gb... gonna go play with one in a store tomorrow to make sure i'll be happy jumping from 3.7 to 4.7" but i think this might be a done deal for me ...

No it is not the typical configuration for all Android phones, not after ICS. After ICS I think HTC is the only one who insist on sticking to it. Even though MTP have its pro and cons, I think sticking to the old 2 GB partition has more Cons than Pros.
And while 2GB is enough for many users, for many others, it is NOT enough. FYI not all apps can be moved to SDcard and right now I have almost 4 GB on apps on my tablet. So for a heavy user, 2GB space is both restrictive AND unnecessary.
This is a stupid decision by HTC that has stopped me from buying their phone since HTC desire HD (which gave me such an headache due to this restriction)
Also consider the exponential growth in the file size of the apps. A few years ago, you will have hard pressed to find an apps that is more than 100 MB, now some apps even approaches 0.5 GB to 1GB size. Enough? Hardly.

[Completed] Dealing with fake components

Hello,
I bought phone from aliexpress.com. It should be octa-core, 2GB RAM, fullHD.
I installed CPU-Z and it shows, it has 8 cores, but only 1 or 2 are active at once, even if I run Antutu benchmark in background.
Also, every time I try to install Antutu (doesn't matter if from Google Play or apk), it always install some old, fake version from /system/appbackup/antutu.apk. If I delete this apk, I cannot install Antutu at all (it shows me that Package installer stopped working). Would it be possible to install some kind of edited Antutu, which have another name?
Also, I have never get more the 450 MB of used RAM, so I concluded, the RAM is also fake.
If I take screenshot, the resolution is only 480x854, so I guess, the display is not fullHD. (I tried to count pixels using magnification glass, it looks more like 960x540.)
What would you do? Is there any way to get true specifications of the phone?
Thank you in advance.
Hi,
You didn't mention what phone make and model it is. ?
But I'm going to guess it's a phone that won't have a section on XDA, so you will need to ask for help here...
> Android Development and Hacking > Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Also, I suggest googling it, and possibly contacting the manufacturer with your concerns.
Good luck!
It's Lenovo S960t, but I'm sure it is not Lenovo. In /system/media I found bootanimation.zip for Lenovo, HTC and Xiaomi.
Before I contact seller, I need some proof, that the components are fake.
Yes, there is no section for that device on XDA, so you should ask for help in the thread I linked. Perhaps someone can help you confirm. Or maybe contact Lenovo directly. ?

[Q] Problem with root on device MTK65xx

Hi, Hello to everybody, i don't know if this is the right place to post, or if i had to introduce myself first in some other area of the forum(sorry for the bad english but im Portuguese), but well...
Last Week i went to spain and bought a new smart phone(my old huawei u8800 was kinda broken xD) so i bought myself a 5'inch(correct for screen size??) IPS+OGS phone, wich looked very fine running android 4.4.2 on it, the thing is i bought with it a modest 16gb micro-sd card so i wont get so early out of space untill i find a better one that suits my tastes, the thing is i cannot move the apps like games tio my external sd becuase the phone has an internal memmory of 8gb(4gb for the system and 4gb for the user) and we all know about the limitation that google has put about the external cards and i need root acess to get the stuff working, thing is this device is kinda unknown and im not seeing it listed here in xda(maybe i did not search well enough) i can't get myself rooted no matter how, tried cynda impactor, tried MTK droid tools, but none of them work, i can't even get a full firmware backup with the mtk droid tools, so i decided to register myself and ask for some help of you guys if you guys can't help well no one can... here are the model and specs of the device:
Model: Primux Zeta 2
CPU: Quad Core MTK6582M 1,3 GHz
Ram: 1GB
External MicroSD up to 32GB
Display: Size 5"
Type IPS/OGS
Resolution: 960x540 qHD
OS: Android 4.4.2 Kitkat
if this post is in the wrong area please somehow move it? im really not used to the forum and don't know the places in the house, i apologize for some mistakes in spelling and anything else, Thanks in Advance.

Razr HD Internal Memory storage

I have a Nexus5 and I'm taking the plunge on buying this for my girlfriend for cheap...
The question is, it has 16GB advertised as ROM, but out of that, how much is REALLY user available?
For example, I had a Microtek phone which had 8 GB rom, but it was partitioned into system, internal and phone
system had like 2GB, phone had 5GB available for photo storage and stuff, and 1GB for apps... which was really a hit in the nuts.
Is it the same with this Motorola phone? I read somewhere it says 16GB but only 12 User avaiable
out of those 12, are they all real for app installations?
What I want to avoid is installing two games and having an "insufficient memory" window
please help!
Thanks!!
Just read the sticky on posting questions on the Q&A Board; posted there. Can this please be removed?

You could try FolderMount as I suggested here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/help/adopting-internal-storage-results-t3297419
As I said I haven't tried the app on MM but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work but YMMV.
really starting to p me off!!
what is this all about, not bein able to move apps to sd! it seems only certain and few phones allow it now rather than the developers. this is my second phone to have 6.0, the first one i returned because it was only 8 gb internal (which is really only 3,5 after system mem) and i recently have gotten into games, games that mind you can take upwards of almost three gb, i returned it for a lg phoenix 2 16gb only to find out that there is NO option to move to sd, its really a punh in the crotch to buy a phone with 16gb only to have 9 useable gb, after all the pointless crap they force us to have that cant be moved,,,"well root your phone then" everybody says, oh, well, i happen to be one of the few luckies that have alwasys purchased a phone that a rooting method has never been found, and no i refuse to spend 600 bucks on a "popular" phone,, that always has a way to be rooted just to one up my friends, and im too broke this is my fifth unrootable phone, And i cant move my apps? wtf!!!! ive never been an apple man, but this has me knocking on their door..i have researched and tried everything, watched videos and read novels of it being done, some say to format the sd as internal, i say impossible, guess what, no option for that either, only format, no internal. how in the F*** do move my apps, or even better how the crap do i downgrade back to lollipop??????????????????????????????????????????????????????/
I haven't explored with the Shield Tablet (16G is enough for my apps currently, so my SD card is portable storage). But on my Moto G3, Marshmallow removed the ability to move apps to SD unless you've integrated it as adopted (i.e., internal) storage. If the SD is mounted as portable storage apps can't be moved to the card. Again, not positive if this is also the case for the Shield, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Dude, stop complaining and you really need to write clearly so other people can read your post.
Conclusion: there is a way to bypass and use SD card as internal storage, but it is not a good idea.
Here is why:
I have a LG K371, and a G.Skill 64GB microSD with speed class 10. The microSD is not as good as Sandisk's speed class 10, as it read/write at 45/15 MB/s vs Sandisk 80/20 MB/s.
The original 16GB internal storage read/write at about 100/70 MB/s (I don't remember the exact number).
After using ADB command tool, I did successfully bypass and be able to use microSD as internal storage. The process is a bit annoying, because I kept seeing error message and sometimes the phone show "SD card is corrupted". I repeat this process multiple times and did some test with differing configuration.
If I use all the space as internal storage, the speed is about 15/7 MB/s
If I use half the space (so I can use the card on computer), the speed is 13/5 Mb/s
If I use 16GB of space as internal storage, the speed is on 9/3 MB/s.
The speed difference is caused by the special file partition format used for adoptable storage, which can't be access by windows computer.
You see, even with a 64GB speed 10 SD card, the speed drops to 15/7 MB/s. It is as slow as USB 2.0 flash drive.
Not to mention if you use a 16GB SD card, the speed is only 9/3 MB/s, which is intolerably slow.
The real problem is that the phone doesn't recognize the speed difference between the SD card and the internal memory, it still thought the phone is running at 70MB/s. So when it installs apps to the memory or start a game (was supposed to be in the internal memory, but now in the SD card), it took way more time (do the math yourself, 70/7=10). Are you willing to wait for 2 minutes for a game to start, which originally took 5 sec? How about the endless lagging in the app, every thing takes 2 sec to response?
Use Sandisk may get a different speed result, but the user experience in this case will be similar.
So don't force to use SD card as internal storage if the phone's manufacture doesn't approve doing so.
Hope my story help you in some way.

My bad, didn't check post 8
Whether 47/28 or 28/21 are good, enough for daily use.
I was able to get 20 write with NTFS format. The problem is my LG Phoenix 2 (K371) is just terrible at handling adoptable storage. Considering it is less than half the price than MOTO E 2 (you can even get it $30 with deal), maybe the manufacture doesn't want or pay any effort to support adoptable storage. However, low-end budget phone happen to the one most need extra storage space, cause some of them even only have 8G ROM.
LG is different story, it seem oppose adoptable storage. Even high-end model like G4 doesn't support it in the stock rom.

Does Moto support it in the stock rom? If not, it seems Google is the only left among the named brand.
A budge phone brand BLU supports it. I guess some brands don't do it because they want you to buy more expensive model with bigger storage, while some want to keep the price competitive.
I don't know all brands.
Lenovo Moto, Htc, Nvidia - have adopted storage support with stock. @dzpcool

Lenovo bought Moto (Their new phone is great, but the market share is not so great), and HTC is a dying company. I feel little to almost no hope seeing adopted storage on major brand phones : (
