[Completed] Dealing with fake components - XDA Assist

Hello,
I bought phone from aliexpress.com. It should be octa-core, 2GB RAM, fullHD.
I installed CPU-Z and it shows, it has 8 cores, but only 1 or 2 are active at once, even if I run Antutu benchmark in background.
Also, every time I try to install Antutu (doesn't matter if from Google Play or apk), it always install some old, fake version from /system/appbackup/antutu.apk. If I delete this apk, I cannot install Antutu at all (it shows me that Package installer stopped working). Would it be possible to install some kind of edited Antutu, which have another name?
Also, I have never get more the 450 MB of used RAM, so I concluded, the RAM is also fake.
If I take screenshot, the resolution is only 480x854, so I guess, the display is not fullHD. (I tried to count pixels using magnification glass, it looks more like 960x540.)
What would you do? Is there any way to get true specifications of the phone?
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
You didn't mention what phone make and model it is. ?
But I'm going to guess it's a phone that won't have a section on XDA, so you will need to ask for help here...
> Android Development and Hacking > Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Also, I suggest googling it, and possibly contacting the manufacturer with your concerns.
Good luck!

It's Lenovo S960t, but I'm sure it is not Lenovo. In /system/media I found bootanimation.zip for Lenovo, HTC and Xiaomi.
Before I contact seller, I need some proof, that the components are fake.

Yes, there is no section for that device on XDA, so you should ask for help in the thread I linked. Perhaps someone can help you confirm. Or maybe contact Lenovo directly. ?

[Q] Highest Performance Android?

So I find it very hard to find raw information. Much less the time to read through all the hardware specs.... so here is what I am looking for, Most of what I read points to Galaxy S4, HTC One, Sony ZD and Nexus 5. But everything I read is so D*** biased.... its hard to get factual advice. I am looking at getting a new phone, the software that comes with it is garbage (will be rooted, and all my own os features installed ie launcher etc etc etc, I can do anything I want to through tasker, etc) i am looking for phone with biggest batter, fastest processor, most ram, largest internal memory and I really hope an sd card slot (one thing I could never get over with nexus devices) now it doesnt have to be one of the above listed models they were just examples...
So guys whats the android with highest hardware capabilities out there? Also kind of want a device like moto-x that has seperate chip for always listening..

[Q] Problem with root on device MTK65xx

Hi, Hello to everybody, i don't know if this is the right place to post, or if i had to introduce myself first in some other area of the forum(sorry for the bad english but im Portuguese), but well...
Last Week i went to spain and bought a new smart phone(my old huawei u8800 was kinda broken xD) so i bought myself a 5'inch(correct for screen size??) IPS+OGS phone, wich looked very fine running android 4.4.2 on it, the thing is i bought with it a modest 16gb micro-sd card so i wont get so early out of space untill i find a better one that suits my tastes, the thing is i cannot move the apps like games tio my external sd becuase the phone has an internal memmory of 8gb(4gb for the system and 4gb for the user) and we all know about the limitation that google has put about the external cards and i need root acess to get the stuff working, thing is this device is kinda unknown and im not seeing it listed here in xda(maybe i did not search well enough) i can't get myself rooted no matter how, tried cynda impactor, tried MTK droid tools, but none of them work, i can't even get a full firmware backup with the mtk droid tools, so i decided to register myself and ask for some help of you guys if you guys can't help well no one can... here are the model and specs of the device:
Model: Primux Zeta 2

Ram: 1GB
External MicroSD up to 32GB
Display: Size 5"
Type IPS/OGS
Resolution: 960x540 qHD

[Completed] Vicious little RAM and battery indication

Hi, the problem with the phone appeared after installing the firmware. The phone began to detect, as you can see on the screens as a framework rather than 512mb and 1gb 1000 mAh battery capacity is 2000 mAh originally. Does anyone know how to fix it can. I have to say that the phone is running slightly worse probably due to the framework. What to do to see the entire RAM. Please help.
Uploader rom again, nothing has changed. Framework still remains 463 MB blocks enclosed map of Mtkdroid can find something wrong.
Hi,
I can't find anything relevant on XDA for your device, so you will need to ask for help here,

[Completed] Ainol Novo Spark 2 Actions 7039

Its been a year since I'm using this tablet and waiting anxiously for a custom ROM. I also have a HTC Sensation with CM12 installed and its satisfying (Its freaking Awesome ?). Now about my tablet, the manufacturing company (A Chinese one "Ainol") has abandoned this product providing with no help and updates for this product and the only thing that they provided was a link to a Chinese web page to download an old firmware (Android 4.2.2 build 20140107) which doesn't work as it has a problem with the backlight (turning screen off after 3 sec of last usage until unless I take screenshots continuously or type something) even in the recovery. Right now I have Android 4.4 KitKat "Build 20140414" installed (Which I got from a Chinese forum), it has bugs and a great problem "Shrinking the Internal SD Storage from 32GB (25.5GB which is usable) to 16GB (11.5GB usable)" and the processors are heavily used and more than half of the ram (≈1.1GB out of 1.96GB) is used even with no user apps installed. Battery drainage is faster than ever (Battery capacity is 13000 mAh but it lasts for 7 hours of usage under normal conditions and up to 21 hours of standby). It also provides low fps for apps other than the stock launcher which is not good for gaming. Video playback is good, no problems with that, same with audio playback. WiFi usage is good even at greater distances. There is no support for Wireless display (miracast). HDMI quality is AWESOME but it slows down the tablet. It takes a while to turn the screen on (approx. 3 sec after the power button is pressed). Stock ROM (the one with which the tablet came) was awesome but I don't have it now. I just wanna say that a Quad-Core processor (1.6 GHz) should work better than a dual core processor (my htc's) and smoother.
All I wanna say is that someone please help me and other fellows and develop CUSTOM RECOVERIES and ROMs for this device, I would be happy and be willing to test them on my own device. The online recovery builder(clockworkmod) didn't work giving the error 404. Any help would be appreciated!!! ? Chao! ???

Chinese android phone questions - Xpoko Z8

Hi guys.
First if this isnt the best section for this please move it to where it needs to go.
I was looking around Aliexpress and saw an octo core phone with mtk 6595 cpu, 4gb ram, 13mp camera etc and for the equivalent of £54 cost it seemed too good to be true. unfortunately that now seems the case. i noticed it was quite laggy which you wouldnt think an octo core phone would be and the photos were poor which a 13mp camera shouldnt produce.
so i downloaded some hardware identifying apps. some state the same details that the seller did. some state however - dual core 6572 cpu, 6mp camera. it also shows only 2 point multitouch where as more modern phones would allow more point multitouch. also when i downloaded google camera and went into the resolution settings, 6.2mp is the max allowed.
so i'm having a battle back and forth that either he refunds most of what i paid and lets me keep this poor phone as a spare for my son at a much lower price or pays the return postage costs and shows me some sort of guarantee i'll get my money back when he receives.
So....the question is, how has he or someone else set it so that it can fool some apps into reading incorrect data? and, even if i turn off data all together it still shows 4g for both sims even though 1 isnt even a 4g sim/data plan?
cheers guys.

He probably just changed the specs in the build.prop files so it shows that the phone is more powerful than it actually is and changed some images for the sim 4G.

Is there any way to prove this or revert it back to stock without the false info?
If your phone has the mtk 6595 CPU your antutu benchmark must be 40000 or more if not then its probably a scam phone download and run the latest antutu benchmark 35000 is fine too but not 25000

it fails to finish the test saying something about failed network something or other yet still shows 48695 score. it actually doesnt mean much whatever the score is as it runs sluggishly, wont run any games like dead trigger 2 or similar and stutters playing youtube vids. also google camera shows max camera resolution allowed is 6.2mp rather than the 13mp claimed.

It's possible but there is no point in that since it won't do anything to the speed of the device. You would just be wasting time.

Part of the reason is for proof to get a refund and the other reason is if i keep it and eventually sell it, I'd want to have the correct details on it

Just download CPU-Z it shows all the correct specs. Then edit the build.prop file so the specs are matching. Make sure to do some research before you cahange anything in the build.prop and always remember to make a backup.

cpuz shows it as octa core but specifically that only 2 cores are working and only at 1.2ghz which is further confirming that it is actually a mt6572.
also, any ideas if there are custom roms that i could install and would this then wipe the fake build.prop details?
thanks again

I didn't find any roms for your phone, but you don't need to install a rom to change build.prop details. Also build.prop does not contain most of the specs. A lot of them are in the hardware and in the kernel.

I couldn't find a rom either. I didn't know if there was such a thing as a generic lollipop rom that could be flashed to any mediatek phone.
I didn't want to just edit the build.prop myself to the specs that i think it should have, i wanted to do some sort of wipe that would then correct it automatically.
Thanks again.

Well, there isn't such a thing as a generic rom, but you still can make a recovery with MTKDroidTools or Easy Magic TWRP Installer (Recommended)
Try an app called hardware info also try asphalt 8 and beach buggy racing and gt racing too you can't judge a device playing one game if all games lag even on low graphics then its a scam and about ( CPU z) showing only two cores working might be due to the fact that most phones disable most of the cpu cores in idle mode but all core do work while gaming I have a lenovo a3500 with four cores( set CPU) shows only two cores working in idle but it reads 4 cores total so it doesn't mean that the cpu is fake if all cores are not active in idle in fact if all cores work in idle it would be a huge waste of battery and no mobile os wants to do that my last advice is to try several games and see
And remember gaming performance depends heavily on the GPU ( the graphics card ) and your phone might have the Mali mp you and its not good enough for most games nowadays
A quick list for you explaning performance rating asphalt 8 1280 x 800 high
Mali mp ( 4 fps )
Mali mp2 ( 7 fps )
Adreno 305 (17 fps )
Power vr 6430 ( 24 fps )
So run hardware info app and see if you have Mali or power vr 6430 if you have Mali then it explanes the bad performance due to what I said earlier
