the " Format both internal and external storage" instruction for installing MOAR. Inside of TWRP, When referring to external storage. Are we referring to Micro SD, USB, or both?
External is the micro SD card. Internal is the device partition.

I have rooted my Nook Color (Blue Dot) with Clockwork, and CM7 Nightly install from 11-16-2011. I installed all the OS data on the internal memory in the Nook. I have a 8GB SD (Class 10) card that that I used to do the root, but now when I try to mount the SD to use to install apps to it, I can only get 1GB as SD Card and the rest mounts as /mnt/emmc. I can't seem to get it to mount the whole card as SD. I have tried using a partition manager on a Windows and Linux machine to partition it, but that did not work. Is there something that I am doing wrong? I want to be able to use the whole card mounted since I use apps and a 512 MB Swap file. One thing that I thought it may be is when I rooted the Nook I used the the 1GB image of Clockwork 3.2.0.1 since I could not find a 8GB image. The only 8GB image I could find was of CWM 3.0.2.8. I don't think that that would be the problem though. You guys have any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. MODS, you can move this to the Android Forum if needed.

That is how CM roms mount the external SD cards.
So I won't be able to mount the card and run more than 1GB of apps from it? Or is there a way to mount it and run the apps from /mnt/emmc. Also, when I remove the SD card, the mount of the SD card at the top (the 1GB one) stays mounted...should it?

Yes the one that stays mounted is your internal storage system. If it only has a max of 1gb then that is all you can store on it. The only way to safely unmount the the internal storage is in recovery as it is not using it but it is not advised. You can find an app that will move apps to SD card and have some bigger apps on there but mind you widgets will not work if the app is on the SD card. Here is a screen shot of my device. The 1.3 gb is my phones on board storage and the 29.81 gb is my external 32 gb sd card.
Ok, thanks for the info. What app is that that you took a screen shot of, and off the top of your head, you know of any that will flip the apps to the SD card? If not I will research it, I am sure it can't be to hard to find one.

The app is android assistant and depending on your OS version apps2sd should work. I know never versions of the OS has the ability built in
Ok. I tried Link2SD, but it said it was moving it to the SD card, but it moved it to the 1GB mount not to the /mnt/emmc where I have the 7.5GB of free space. I will try the apps2SD and see if that works. Thanks a lot bud.

I figured it out...
If you have the "Use internal storage" checked under CyanogemMod Settings/Application CM7 will mount the SD card as mnt/emmc and create a 1GB partition and mount it as mnt/SDCard. If you un-check it and then reboot, the SD Card will be mounted as mnt/SDCard and the internal partition will be mnt/emmc, allowing you to use the whole SD Card for storing apps, while still being able to store the apps on the main internal partition. I am glad I figured that out, now I can load more apps, and use the swap file.

Droidstyles guide says to copy ROM (in my case cleanrom) to "internal storage" all over the place. When I look at the phone connected to my computer, i get an option for "Phone" and "Card".
I would assume that phone was internal and card is external SD card.
But in all the times I flashed on my Samsung Moment it was always a Zip from the external SD card.
I have searched and not coming up with it, sorry for the noob question. Just want to get it right...

Phone is internal and card is external. That being said you can flash from external as long as it is formatted to Fat32. The recoveries do not support extFat on external card and do not see it. Once Fat32 can flash as you always have.

Prdog is correct and thats the reason why i say to use internal sd in my guide...not everybody has a external sd and/or has it formatted to fat32.
I am unable to mount the external SDcard with CWM 6.0.2.7 or any earlier versions. As a result I cannot backup to or restore from the external SDcard. If I boot into CM10.1 the card mounts OK & I can read & write files to it. The same happens if I try a different SDcard. Any ideas what's going on?

Hi,
I have a P3110 with CWM6.0.2.7. I had the same problem. I simply formated my micro-SD card with the tablet, and now I can backup to and restore from my micro-SD card. (I found this somewhere in the forum by searching.)

Thanks for the reply, I had also searched the forum & google but did not find a solution. I cannot mount the SD card in CWM to format it and there doesn't seem to be a way to format it from CM10.1.

Try erasing everything on the m-sd card. Put it in you tablet. Then go to settings>storage>micro sd. and select the option to format it.

CM 10.1 doesn't appear to have this option under Storage settings
Could the reason for CWM not mounting the SD card be that CM10 has different mount points from the stock ROM for the SD card?
Mystery solved! I tried CWM formatting the SD card in my P5100 which has no problems doing CWM backups to external SD cards - and it would not mount. I then dug out a Samsung branded microSD card, stuck it in the P3110 and it worked first time! It's now happily backing up to the external SD. The 2 cards that didn't work were generic and Sandisk. Thanks for the suggestions.
I have a One A9 running stock Android 7 original ROM. I am getting the low storage warning as I have used 15.5 out of 16gb.
I have installed a 32gb SD card and planned on formatting this as internal. I tried this but then noticed I cannot see the SD card when pluged into my laptop. It was only showing the internal with capacity of 16GB, not the 16+32gb as I had hoped.
I then formatted it back to portable and planned to move certain apps to SD. But in App settings, not a single app can be moved to the SD.
So I am stuck now. Anyone know how I can view the additional storage on my laptop if I format the SD as internal??
Or if that is not possible, how do I move apps to SD?
Anyone able to assist?

afaik, you can only move apps to the sd card when its formatted as internal storage, not portable.. Pre-installed apps can't be moved to the sd card.

This is what I tried doing. When I connected the phone to my laptop via USB, windows explorer could not see the SD card. All it showed was the original internal memory.

maybe because you didn't migrated your existing data from your internal memory to the sd card ? When using the sd card as the internal memory you'll only see the sd card from your computer (I'm assuming the opposite is also true), read the help page linked above.
hey guys i kinda screwed something up, i was going to swap from using my sd card internal storage to portable so i backed up the data folder and the obb folder, then i formatted the sd card to portable storage and then i realised that there was no where near enough space for all my apps and i found out you cant move them to the sd card so i switched the sd card back to internal storage.
so formatted the sd card but now when i use es file explorer ti says the the card cannot be found so i cant set thing back to how they were?
any idea how to get the sd card to work as it did?

I formatted it the tablet but I got working some how. I booted to twrp and tried to mount the sd card and it wouldn't but when I rebooted it's working fine lol

i just checked and my sd card is formatted to f2fs mate but it is working now somehow
