You have to add dun to APN type under both Settings you listed. Both APN Types should look like this..default,mms,dun. There should be no spaces between the comma and dun. Hit Save and reboot for good measure. You should be good to go after this.

I did type the "default, mms, dun in both APN2 and i keep getting an error on the APN2 lte. When i start the hotspot it will work only when i am getting a 3G signal and when the signal toggles to LTE i get an ! In the signal indicator bar. Then the hotspot goes offline until it toggles back to 3G.

That sounds more like an LTE issue than a hotspot issue. Can you do a screenshot of the APN LTE Settings that you added the dun to? Did you have a space in there anywhere? Is there a space after dun? If you are getting an exclamation point by the signal indicator it means there is no signal so the HotSpot will turn off until the signal comes back. Is there an LTE signal in the area this happens? Does it happen everywhere or just certain places? Are you roaming when you recognize the exclamtion point? It sounds like the mod is working just fine but the LTE signal is either non existent or not strong enough. If its offline for a few seconds the Hotspot will shut off as it has no signal to pull from. Try to use it in an area where the LTE signal is strong first. If it still doesn't work you may have to do a data reset. Dial ##72786# and hit ok. This just reprovisions your data connection with the Network. It won't delete anything. Once its complete, redo the Hotspot Mod and try to use it again but make sure you have a strong LTE signal when you try it.

Y can't I change my apns ? It doesn't even give me the option

No problem. Enjoy. Who needs root? And we keep all our features. I may never root again. LoL

This method worked for me. I used the chat service to get my MSL and followed the instructions and hot spot works fine. Thanks.

posted in the original thread but got no response, trying here:
This works for me for about 15 minutes before it shuts the hotspot down in some sort of "Hotspot error". Anyone else have this running for extended periods of time without error?

this is a working method for me as well

When i go to apn settings theres nothing there like all my settings is gone

Thunderbolt not connecting to 3G in non-LTE 4G areas?

After doing a manual root, the Thunderbolt connects to LTE fine but when there is no LTE, the 3G won't connect and the phone doesn't receive data.
Advice?
Try checking to make sure you are not in LTE only mode. Dial *#*#4636#*#*, select phone information, scroll down and go down and make sure you are on the CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto option and not LTE mode.
If that doesn't work, try downloading "reset connections" from the android market and running that app when you enter a 3g area out of 4g range. It may be a handoff issue from 4g to 3g towers.
##778# hit dial, edit mode, password is 000000, modem settings, Rev. A, change to enabled, instead of eHRPD, hit menu, commit changes.
try 3G again.
I assume like me, you are in a section where Verizon's Hybrid Network isn't working, and so you must tell your phone to revert back to their regular 3G network.
We have 4G in Pittsburgh, but there's a spot in Squirrel Hill that I go through on the bus in the morning where I drop to 1x, and I'm fairly certain that there is 3G there. However, there are other areas I've definitely seen 3G. So, it seems a little mixed. We're definitely early adopters of this new network
The fix
Phone ##778, edit mode, 000000, modem parms, REV-A change from ePHRD to enabled, menu, commit, reboot, problem fixed.
seems to have worked for me. I was having a problem with syncing too, hopefully this fixes that as well. Thank you!

Not to familiar with TB verizon, but friend bought his TB and I saw there was 4GLTE on it, and now nothing, no icon not in wireless networks, nada!
What is this "fix" for?

3G fix for Thunderbolt

LTE is back online, please follow steps at the bottom of this post to get everything back in order.
*If you are in a 4G area it is advisable to make sure you switch to eHRPD to avoid bad hand offs between 4G and 3G as well as allowing simultaneous voice without hiccups. I noticed my GPS was not working last night so it is possible eHRPD settings will affect your gps or it could have just been due to the network issues.
As most are aware both the LTE network and eHPRD are down (a special version of 3G for the Thunderbolt only). To get 3G data back you just need to change your settings back to the normal 3G network. Here are the steps:
Dial ##778# and hit send
A pop-up window named EPST will show up giving you 2 choices: View Mode and Edit Mode. Pick: Edit Mode.
Enter the Password: 000000
Go down to Modem Settings and pick “Rev A“
You’ll want to choose enable and click OK, hit the menu button and then press “Commit Modifications.”
Restart your phone and you should see 3G is working
last step (may not be necessary)
dial *#*#4636#*#* go to phone info, then set preferred network type to CDMA auto (PRL)
I hope this helps anyone that is left in the dark by this outage.
If you are running a non-stock dialer or a rom that included a dialer it may prevent you from entering settings. Flash this zip to go back to stock dialer

For those that want instructions for after LTE is back on
These 2 steps will put you back on LTE and then put you back on the correct 3G for the Thunderbolt, when its back up.
dial *#*#4636#*#* to get LTE, go to phone info, set preferred network type to CDMA + LTE EvDo auto
Dial ##778# and hit send
A pop-up window named EPST will show up giving you 2 choices: View Mode and Edit Mode. Pick: Edit Mode.
Enter the Password: 000000
Go down to Modem Settings and pick “Rev A“
You’ll want to choose eHRPD and click OK, hit the menu button and then press “Commit Modifications.”

Isn't this selected by default? I changed it to "enabled" let it reboot, and 3G is back on.
By default we are setup for the eHPRD 3G network on the Thunderbolt because it allows faster switching between 4G and 3G. Since both network features are down you have to switch your settings to the 3G network used by all other Verizon phones.

yea but in your instructions you said select eHPRD, which is already selected.
Yes enable, sorry I was too fast in typing out my instructions and goofed
one more step guys, if you are on auto cdma/lte settings, you might have to go in to
*#*#4636#*#* and select phone info and then select EVDO only to get 3g under preffered network settings.
It would be nice if you could add this to OP wakestrong. I think people in 4g area have cdma/lte auto option enabled so in the phone settings the phone is still trying to pick up the older cdma.
So this has worked for everyone? I tried this earlier with no luck and just did it again with no luck either :/

Look post above. You might have cdma/lte auto enabled under phone info menu so it is still searching for 4g and older 3g.

Thanks a million! It worked. Good night, I was on 1x ever since I flashed the stock rom. I thought for a while it was an error on my part. Talk about bad timing.
I love all the nifty little tricks we find on the internet
Thanks OP.
First the PSN is down for a few days, and now Verizon's new network. Wth?

[Q] Wi-Fi and 3g connection problems

Hi there!
I've some problems with my G-Nexus 5, as wroten in title,
the Wi-Fi and the 3g connection disconnects me during utilizing it,
if i look on the icons of wi-fi or 3g i can see that i'm not receiving any data and i cant continue to surf in web or by enjoying a game online.
So the question is its a hardware or a software problem, and if another one had the same problem.
So noone had this issue?
Sounds like hardware if this happens both to 3G and WIFI.
How do you fix it? Toggle Wifi? Airplane mode? Restart phone?
After a bit it begins to surf something like 5-10 seconds
I get the same problem on my 3G, it doesn't happen while I'm on WiFi. I have to disable/enable data or airplane mode on/off to get this working again. Also I have noticed that when signal changes from 3G to EDGE and then back to 3G I don't have data working. Need to to the same trick to have that back. It's annoying and you don't know when it working or not unless you check your phone....and lose notification from Facebook Messenger or Whatsapp which i use a lot.
I wrote to google lets see what do they say....
I got realy bored about thia issue.
I would verify that your apn settings are correct. Either call your carrier or maybe google your ("carrier name" apn settings). Also... Settings/Wireless & networks/More/Mobile networks/Preferred network type, is correct. I do know that in my case as far as wifi I get better results (quicker to connect) if the "Advanced " settings for "WiFi frequency band" is set to 2.4 GHz only. Default is Auto. Worth a shot.

Mobile internet not working

Hi, My mobile internet connection is not working on my n5. It says "no internet connection" on the status bar slide down. I have tested the sim card in a different phone and internet works fine on it.
However, phone calls work fine and it detects my provider fine (gosmart)
Why?
Check your apn

Under apns it lists 3 options: metropcs (fast.metropcs.com), t-mobile gprs, and t-mobile grps (fast.t-mobile.com).
Not sure how check them.
EDIT: Found the apn settings for my provider and it works now. Thanks a bunch man!

[Q] 3g issue

Hello there, i just got this phone 3 weeks ago and since i have wifi i didnt test the 3g conection before. i activated a data pack and i just realized that my 3g doesnt come on at all. the screen shows 4g left side of the signal strengh but it doesnt work at all. i got at&t version. i confirmed with my carrier and i did activate data, they even helped me to set up the apn but is still not working. can you helpe me? thanks!
PD: they said they couldnt have done more because they dont support that type of device
Does it say 4G or 4G LTE? The at&t icons are a bit different I'd you're not used to them.
4G = hspa
4G LTE = LTE
So if you're getting the 4G icon you are actually getting 3G hspa speeds.

If another carrier besides AT&T, you will need to find the APN settings for your carrier and manually enter it into Settings>Mobile network settings>Access point names. Select "New APN" and enter the correct settings for your manufacturer.
The 4G icon simply means a network is present, it doesn't mean you are connected to it.
thank you for helping people. whel actualy i wouldnt mind getting 3g network access, the point is that i dont have internet access at all. i called my carrier (Claro - El salvador) and they helped me to set up the apt but is still not working. i was wondering if there is something else i could try to fix this
nevermind, i finally fixed it
Please share the fix so the information is available for anyone who might have the same problem in the future.

sorry. well, first i did master reset, once done i set up an apn (carrier provides you with this info), then went to mobile network > network operators > select automatically. once the device found the "CLARO" network i turned data on and got internet service.
Thankyou, these threads live on long after we're finished with them so it's important to have the information readily available for future troubleshooters.

I'm guessing you either had not entered the APN info exactly correctly the first time. Or also, after entering the APN you actually have to select it as the "active" one on the list of APNs (making sure it has the colored dot next to it). Maybe it did need a factory reset, but this shouldn't be necessary just to change APN.
Happy you got it figured out.
