Found a great guide on improving battery life in htc smartphones . Nearly doubled my battery life . Before this I used to run out after a good 18 hour but after following this even with heavy use I have 34% left after 22 whooping hours! So guys follow it and tell me your experience that how much it improves with your smartphone . I am assuming you have a sense rom and you have a perfectly calibrated battery already. If you dont please calibrate battery by charging it to 100% then turning off with fastboot unticked , then plug it in wall charger again to find it having green LED in about 20 seconds but keep it that way for 5 or more minutes then going into your choice of recovery (clockworkMod or 4ext) wipe battery stats and you will have a calibrated battery. Another precaution to look for is all the charging should be done by wall-charger(not via USB charge). So here goes the steps to double your phones battery life :-
1) With the Desire S switched on, charge the Desire S
for 8 hours or more . Your battery should be 100% by that time . If it is don't disconnect the charger . Keep it plugged in for 8 hours or more. It gives the battery time to cool down too so its a good thing.
2) Having unplugged the device from the power cable turn the
phone off(also look for that you have fastboot disabled, Settings > Power > untick Fastboot) , then charge it for a further one hour. Again your battery might be 100% but still have it plugged in anyway! 1 hour or a bit more.
3) With the device now unplugged turn it on for two minutes,
then again turn it off (remember to keep it unpugged during the turning on and off period) then
charge it for another hour. In this time your battery will show 100% or the Green LED will be on but still keep it plugged.
Oddly the end result is your battery life should be close to
doubled. So try it and report back here how it went.
Typical guide of improving battery life:-
1.Turn off Background Data syncing : Settings > Accounts &
sync > Untick Background data. You will come across apps that
you wlil turn this on for, make sure you turn it off when you're
through with the using the app.
2 Ditch Auto-sync : Settings > Accounts & sync > Untick Auto-
sync. This single handedly cost me a lot of money overseas with
data usage. It will eat your battery too.
3.Get rid of Vibrate: Settings > Sound > Untick Phone
Vibrate.
4.Turn Off Haptic feedback, it's largely unecessary unless you
must have it: Settings > Sound > Untick Haptic
feedback : Vibrate when pressing soft keys and on certain UI
interactions.
5.Lower Brightness: Settings > Display > Brightness >
Untick Automatic brightness > Reduce Brightness by sliding to
left.
6.Lower the Screen Timeout Interval: Settings > Display
> Screen timeout (default 1 min) > Reduce to less than 1 min (15
seconds minimum).
7.If you're out and about then you can disable WiFi : Settings >
Wireless & networks > Untick Wi-Fi.
8.Disable Bluetooth, who uses this these days anyway: Settings
> Wireless & networks > Untick Bluetooth.
9 Clean up the Running services: Settings > Applications >
Running Services > Select and Stop any apps that you are not
using, there are likely to be many!
10.Check the data options of the apps you have installed, many
can be customized to reduce battery usage: normally in Setting
options of each app. Change intervals / frequency of data pulls
or disable background syncing altogether. Pay attention to
Twitter clients, RSS apps and mail especially.
11. Disable always on mobile data. Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > untick Enable always on mobile data.(thanks ben_pyett)
12. If you are on GSM or 2G then . Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Network mode > GSM only.
13. Use a Mobile network toggle widget to turn it on or off when not needed . It improves battery a lot as I find the latest radio to be a better battery hog in this case.
Follow the first guide closely . Second one is mostly already followed by average user.
Happy improving battery life! :-D

Good guides, although it's also important to switch off
Always on mobile data which is on by default.
Settings.......wireless & networks......mobile networks.......enable always on mobile data = untick
Bit dubious that you do not perform calibration at any point? Surely this is needed?

The typical procedure is followed by everyone. I just added that to make this guide big lol . Now yah always on mobile data is a ***** too . And calibration was done after flashing new rom already and we all know that it doesnt necessarily improve battery life but shows the correct percentage left . Different thing. But by following the 1st guide after calibration I was able to improve battery life by a large margin!

Sorry guys but this things are converting your smartphone into a normal phone. Why would I want to switch auto-sync off? Why do I have an auto-brightness sensor built-in ? Why do we have electricity ?
This things only get you minutes more, not hours. So they are kinda useless. Of course, a tip like switch bluetooth off when not used is a good one, but it's kinda intuitive.
It's all to the apps you are using and the way you are using the phone. Some apps are not optimized and they are a battery killer. Did you ever wonder why Yahoo Messenger eats your battery, while Gtalk doesn't ?
It's just an opinion, don't blame me.

Heya not blaming you use your phone as you wish . What I posted does improve battery even if for minutes then too. Now my main concern is the first guide which I got hold of . The typical one is user followed best settings to improve battery life.

The best thing you could do is to charge and calibrate your battery properly. Then it's all to you and how efficient you use your phone.

Yes and yes but if I do that charge >turn off >charge >turn on >turn off >charge procedure then battery life significantly improves over the calibrated one. Have you read my guide from the start? I have a battery improving guide at first and then a battery saving one. Read it through and follow . If it helps or not come back here and post to us. Thank you

This is a much covered topic and one where there are only right opinions as every ones use and practice is what's right for them.
I personally use tasker to optimize and automate my configuration switching to prolong battery life (thanks wnp_79)

It is not possible to clear battery stats if I'm running a stock ROM, eh?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Yeah! It helps to some extent, though Sense, the real culprit is still there.
Eliminate that, and it would help further.
Good Post!

Of course you can..you just got to have a custom recovery image..like clockworkmod or 4ext...

Will this require every charging or just a one time procedure?

One time procedure, but every time when you change your ROM.

This is a one time procedure as long as you are on same rom or maybe otherwise too but I havent actually changed rom after doing this . But I am guessing it should be one time process as long as you calibrate your battery after flashing new rom. But if you face battery drain after flashing a new rom then try following the process again and see how it goes.thank you!!!

Thanks for the speedy answer guys, anyway i just bought this DS a week ago, i dont want to void the warranty just yet, ive read all the posts in this thread , i want to try this out too, but my phone is in stock rom and unrooted, if the culprit is the sense, then if i lessen the use of my sense widgets that would help too, lesses =remove from home screen , thanks again for the info, very informative thread

I have an o3d that has a battery percentage problem it displays what it wants when it wants. Such as 70% one minute an 5 mins later its gone to 0% and shut down making it useless unless on charge. It is not a bad battery as i have 7 various batterys that work fine in my other o3d. I have tried the battery calibration apps which delete battery stats .bin and big surprise it did nothing. So i used link to sd to freeze power off
.apk and now my phone stays turned on even when at 0%! This does cause a couple of problems though such as going through usual shutdown precedure only reboots phone (i dont mind though this is handy to reboot). If you reboot whilst percentage is low it wont restart without inserting charger. Phone can still be turned off by holding power button for approx 10 seconds. The worst problem is when 0% is reached the status bar usually force closes (which is a real pain using android without status bar). And camera and a few apps wont work as battery is always low but at least i can use phone. I have learnt so much from xda so i thaught i would share this in case it can help someone. Please share if this was helpfull and if you have any tips on how to fix errors caused by this.

And also if anyone knows what may be causing my problem in the first place any help would be greatly appreciated. I have already tried a re flash of standard rom and a couple of different custom gb roms. And a custom kernal. I am currently trying to work out how to flash ics to try and fix this properly. I do not know how this problem first occured as i brought this phone off ebay second hand. The problem first occured when this phone was unlocked so i was told. I did notice that even though it was sold as o3d and the sticker on the back confirmed this, that it said p925 in about phone not p920. Not sure if this is related. So again if you have an un-usable phone i hope the above can help you out. And thanks again to anybody that could help fix this once and for all.

Hi guys.
Some two months ago, I got the AT&T update which destroyed the battery life on this phone. Small tasks make it turn warm quickly and it lags a lot.
Ex: on the first KK update, my G2 on standby could stay at 100% for several hours. Now with this newest update, my G2 on standby stays at 100% for about an hour or so.
Does anyone know how to return to the very first KitKat update that added Knock Code to the G2? I can't stand the barely one-day battery life anymore.

Usually your battery life depends of how you use your device,i mean 3g on all the time or Wifi connected all the time.
Mostly if you dont use your tablet it should be disconnected from the internet, and they say 5 days...it could be,but i guess you have to use yor device only 1 hour daily. Once i had 4 days battery on my phone but no 3g and wifi just phone...and the screen time was about 4 hours,so i guess it depends on you,how you use your device that much your battery will last.
