Finally after a week I got my gear s2 connected with my Samsung Level U. How do I play music on my gear s2 without my phone? Music is copied.
I dont have a BT headset, but in my own quest to answer this same question I came up with the following.
1. Open the music app.
*2. Tap once on the bottom of the screen (Below the play button, you should see a track title and phone icon).
3. Now in the music app on the right side you should see 3 vertical dots. Tap that to access the menu.
4. You should see a black screen that says "Play music from: Phone"
Tap on the text and you'll switch to "Play music from: Gear"
5. Tap play to start a track and if BT headset is not connected you will be prompted to connect to a headset.
* Depending on where you access the music app from, step 2 may not be required. Ive gotten as far as step 5. Dont have a BT headset.

Hi, there was a program that I used quite frequently on my Touch Pro, it's called Bluetooth Audio, version 1.0 Basically it allowed you to play music, or anything really, on your mono bluetooth headset.
It doesn't seem to work on the TP2. Does anyone have a suggestion for a different program that does the same thing that might work on the TP2? Thanks.
Anyone? Still haven't found a resolution elsewhere...
You do not need a program for this on the TP2.
Just scroll over to the settings tab, tap menu, and then Bluetooth Devices.
There will be three tabs at the top of the window that comes up, tap the first tab, which looks like 3 gears, and then scroll down to "advanced" and tap it. Then tap "Audio" and check the box that says "Play System sounds on remote hands-free device."
Tap Done, then exit, and you should be up and working!

Ahhhhh, wow that's a really neat feature to come with the stock rom. Thanks a lot, you made my day
was about to say the same thing its already in the settings.

My TP2 came configured like this and couldn't figure out why I couldn't hear my alarms until I happened to leave my headset by my bed one night and heard the alarm coming from there! I switched this option after so research and it works great.
Here's my suggestions to the great minds here:
Is there any way to make a button, somewhere, that would allow me to switch this function on or off without having to drill down into the bluetooth menus?
Reason:
I am using Voicemail Fusion + and it used the media player built in. If I want to listen to my VMs while this switch is turned off, it doesn't play through the regular speaker on the phone, but rather the speaker phone. This isn't very practical, of course! I even emailed them and they said they don't support it. But sure enough, If I switch it in the BT menu, it works through the BT headset!
Also, I have two cars, one with AUX in to the stereo and another without. I'd like to listen to my audio books through my BT in the one car and the stereo in the other without futzing through a bunch of menus.
Can anyone else? Maybe something on the HTC sound menu? Anything. Thanks in advanced!

Ditto, is there any way to map a button to do this?
So I got a new car (2016 "facelift" Kia Ceed 4 Tech)... and whilst OK Google Hotword detection over bluetooth sort of works, the
state of the dialler appears quite broken... and I was hoping if anyone could help.
Nexus 5 running Marshmallow paired to the car with Phone & Media Audio selected.. Google Voice Typing settings set to record audio through headset if available.
1) With screen on, say "Ok Google" wait for phone to respond with the first and then second beeps (I guess the second beep is to
signify the phone is then listening over bluetooth)
2) Say "Call xxxxxx mobile/home" etc.
3) Phone responds and starts dialling. Call is answered and the car Infotainment screen gives a prompt to change to "hands free mode", requiring a manual button press..
Not exactly "hands free behaviour".. Not compared to when I pair my wife's Galaxy Note 4, do exactly the same steps and everything goes through seamlessly with
the car automatically going to bluetooth handsfree without requiring me to press the button on the infotainment screen.
Now if you look at the dialler screen on the Nexus 5 whilst the call is going through, you can see the dropdown to manually choose between "Headset" "Speakerphone" "Bluetooth"
and the "Bluetooth" one is indeed selected but clearly the phone and car aren't handshaking to tell the car to automatically default to handsfree. At this point, you can re-select the bluetooth
option but it doesn't do anything, and the car is still waiting for manual confirmation.
More weirdness is, if you start a voice call with OK Google but actually press the phone button to action the call, then it all works fine...
Both Marshmallow and the car are new, so I'm not hopeful that anyone has an answer but given the Note 4 works perfectly, I'm keeping my fingers crossed..
Looks like a known problem since lollipop for nexus and some other phones.. not fixed in marshmallow either.. not sure what to do..LLC.. wait and see I guess

Am I missing something or is the Media controller app not available for the Gear S2? I have spent hours trying to find/install the thing, but with no success.
If the Gear S2 is missing the media controller app? Why? Its such a useful app. Without it I am thinking of returning the device. This is how I control I would control what music is playing from my phone from my watch, its a hassle to have to pull out my phone only to skip to the next track or pause.
Is there any way to enable it?
On this watch it's the Music Player. If you tap on the 3 dots to the right, you'll get a menu and the top item will allow you to select either the phone or the watch as the source for music. The watch will be able to control the phone if Bluetooth is on.

You can also add a widget with remote control buttons.
I used my gear s2 to control my music on my LG G4 CM13.
Used BlackPlayer and Phonograph which worked great with the watch.
But suddenly I can't control my music anymore. No track skipping, no volume control, nothing.
It just show the tracks stored on the watch itself and want to connect to a bluetooth headset if I try to play any.
Have any of you the same problem? Maybe a solution?
I don't know if it's the last firmware update's fault or CM13 (I use nightlies and update nearly every week)

Open the music player app on the watch, then tap the three vertical dots on the right hand side of the circular screen. This should bring up a menu. Choose the watch icon and then it will allow you to change between playing music from your phone, or from the gear itself (it appears the latter is currently set up on your device).

You are a lifesaver and I am an idiot. Thank you very much!
This is a life saver for parents
o to Settings - sound and vibration - Seperate App sound (all the way at the bottom)
turn on and pick the app you want(limited to 1 app at a time)
Then choose the location (I chose Music to bluetooth)
This way I can still listen to music and be able to hand my daughter my phone so she can watch youtube
Impressive, didn't think of that as a use case. Although I don't think I'll be handing anyone my phone just yet
For example (?) : can you watch a video/broadcast mute (sport game), and listen TuneIn ( running commentary ) at the same time ?
Actually android is deeply missing basic audio mix table !
Also can you (lucky owners) tell us if :
-AKG earphone are ip68 waterproof ?
-Google Music can be uninstall/disable ?
-is embedded EQ working with any browser/video app ?
Thx for sharing...

I have a specific question/problem related to this:
Currently I have Google Play Music assigned to Bluetooth.
This is cool because in the car, I can play music - but then play a game or something at the same time.
HOWEVER.....
In order for this to actually work, you have to go to the audio connections hub thing in the notification shade.
And switch your audio output to the phone.
THEN with the audio output set to the phone - itll use the override and send the play music to bluetooth.
You seemingly have to do this every time (I even used Tasker and Autotools custom settings, trying to detect which setting gets changed and make it automatic.... but couldn't see a related changed setting in the settings lists).
A bigger problem though, amidst my messing around to try to make this work better....
I selected "turn off connections manager" option.
Now I don't get that stuff in the notification shade at all.
And I cannot find a single setting that lets me access it again!
So now I can never use separate app audio.
Can someone help me!?!?!?
I have found this feature usefull for SatNav.
I have the phone connected to car bluetooth, so ALL audio on previous phones goes to the car - so as im listening to streaming radio etc, the satnav voice from TomTom kicks in and can be quite annoying - especially as I only want the voice for traffic and speed cameras.
With this feature, I can still stream music to the car but have the audio come through the phone speaker - well done Samsung

Same, once disabled there doesn't appear to be a way to get it to reappear

Give SoundAbout a look. There isn't much it can't manage.
One of my issues with the Google ChromeCast is that when the phone is used as a source, all audio is sent over that ChromeCast connection.
You cannot divert the audio to Bluetooth for bluetooth speakers/headphones.
Does anyone know if this new Samsung feature will allow you to divert ChromeCast audio to Bluetooth?
That would be pretty darn cool if it did.
EDIT: Btw, I don't have the Samsung phone.
I was linked here from a Google Pixel thread. But I'm really interested to know the answer to my question above.

Download Sound Assistant from Samsung in the play store. When you adjust volume hit the icon and then expand the window. To the right of the app volume slider you can switch sound output.
Found the "Audio output" control! Yess!!

Thanks to the post above I was finally able to find the setting to enable the option to select the Audio output on my phone (Samsung S8+) see pictures attached. So if you've lost the option to select the audio output of you S8 follow these steps. (Not to be confused with with Separate app sound, which routes different apps to a bluetooth or phone output)
Find the Samsung Connect app
Click on the three dots to bring down the menu
Tap Settings
Tap Samsung Connect panel
Ensure this is turned on
Tap on Always show
and Finally tap on Audio output << This is the one! :good:
