[ROOT] Unable to update SuperSU binary - HTC One E8

Hi all, this is my first post to this forum, so forgive me if I make any mistakes
I installed the latest Chainfire SuperSU (v 2.46), and flashed it with TWRP. The flashing was successful, but when I opened up SuperSU there was a popup that said "The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?".
This is where the problem comes in. There are 2 options to update the binary, normal and TWRP/CWM. At first I tried TWRP, and to my understanding, the phone is supposed to automatically boot into recovery and install the binary update, but nothing happens. The popup just closes and that's it. SuperSU didn't even close. After rebooting, I tried the "normal" option, and after a while, it says "Installation failed! Please reboot and tried again." No mater how many times I reboot, the problem persists.
I have already tried reflashing the SuperSU zip and rebooted many times, but nothing seems to work. I'm at my wits end. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Anyone?
I've also tried reflashing TWRP, in case the problem was with the recovery. No luck there either. I'm also unable to use the "Full unroot" or any other related uninstallation/reinstallation of SuperSU. After the "Uninstalling..." message, nothing happens, and when i reboot my phone, SuperSU is still there.

You need system write protection remove ...do it when you go s-off or flash custom kernel

How do I go s-off? It seems the only way is to purchase a Sunshine license for $25?

Thank you for your reply, but damn, I really don't want to drop $25 for a license... Are there no other alternatives to fix my problem?

You can flash the same recovery stock firmware stock boot zip per fastboot

Yes, I was looking at that, I can get the stock firmware, which is the RUU (?) from here right? http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-e8/help/htc-one-e8-mid-cid-ruu-ota-twrp-t2903210
But does this work on S-On?

@nkk71
Currently following your instructions for decrypting the RUU, but may I know where I can obtain the hboot img file?

we (@Captain_Throwback and myself) are currently working on a Universal HTC Decrypt Tool, until we get that done, you only have three choices
1- decrypt it yourself, i think i've left more than enough information in @joeykrim's thread
2- wait till we finish the tool
3- if you're really desperate, give me links (the phone forum, and the ruu in question), and i'll take a look (sorry but I don't feel like going through forums & threads, about a device I havent even heard of)

Are there any updates on the Universal HTC Decrypt Tool?

And had that too sometimes. Have you made a nandroid backup first? If not, you have to install the Rom again or run the RUU

Switch from supersu 1.86 to cwm superuser

I have a tricky issue with my new N5. I cannot switch from supersu to cwm superuser.
I did it without problems on my N7 2 by deleting /system/etc/.has_root_daemon, unrooting via supersu settings and flashing superuser.zip but no chance with my N5.
I'm running stock unlocked, Franco r31, twrp.
Any suggestions?
Thanks bluetigger68

Why unroot? Cwm superuser doesn't change the binary. You don't need to remove the binary surely? Just the apk

just flash the latest supersu in your recovery. itll get rid of your superuser and replace it http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
I tried pushing superuser apk to /system/app and removing supersu apk, I tried just removing supersu via it's settings and superuser always keeps asking for updating the binary, that does not happen when unrooting first.
Simms22 I want it the other way.

So what actually happens when you flash the zip?

yea, nevermind. i read it wrong
It places the apk in /system/app I can open it and it keeps asking me for updating the binaries in recovery. This reboots the phone to recovery and twrp tries to install but fails, I point twrp to the file manually and it flashes flawlessly. After a reboot it just starts again to ask for updating the binaries...
It worked in every other nexus i posses, both N7, N4 but won't in my N5.
I just don't get it.
It seems the problem is related to Franco kernel, superuser works with stock kernel but after flashing Francos it stops working...

Back to stock without USB port?

After my USB port stopped working I called the Google support and they sent me a new n5. Now I have to sent my "old" n5 with the broken usb port back. I already locked the bootloader and untampered my n5 but how can I:
Flash the stock ROM
Flash stock recovery
Wipe all my personal data
Without the usb port?

I would recommend you do this in this order:
Unlock bootloader with BootUnlocker
Download and flash rooted Stock ROM (odexed) via recovery
Flash stock Recovery.img via flashify (reboot to confirm worked)
Lock Bootloader via BootUnlocker (reset tamper too)
Use SuperSU option to "FullUnroot"
Factory reset via menu
Should I take this ROM

Looks as good as any. You'll need to remove busybox before you unroot too. Check for /system/bin and /system/xbin /busybox
Thank you!! Hopefully google take my n5 back without any problem...

What do we have to remove into /system/bin?
I see the busybox file in /system/xbin but nothing in the first directory.

It really depends on the method of installing busybox. Some ROMs have it in xbin, some in bin... Some kernels come bundled with busybox and it can also be installed from play. There will usually only be one instance of busybox, but always check both locations.

Oneplus One Softbrick (Blackscreen)

Hi,
i tried to flash a custom boot logo (.bin file) using adb. On 4.4 that worked perfectly, now i did the same thing on CM12. --> cant boot to recovery, bootloader just a blackscreen. It doesnt even show up in the device manager. The only thing my phone does is vibratong when doing a force reboot but thats ALL. Man EVERYTHING worked so freaking fine with temasek 5.0. Any ideas. :crying:
Thanks!
Hey,
I think there is a solution in the Bootlogo thread... Have you tried that?

Doesn't boot into TWRP after flash

Hey Guy,
I flashed the XtreStoLite Bootloader and Modem for 5.1.1.
After that I flashed the new TWRP with Odin, it passed so there shouldn't be any errors.
I tried to boot into the recovery after I turned off the phone with volume + / power / home button. At first there was only a picture of an android but now it doesn't do anything when I try to press the buttons.
The Bootloader shows that the knox is already tripped so it's w/e.
Tried to check for root in Android terminal but apparently it doesn't recognise the command.
Any ideas how to proceed, so I can finally boot into twrp?

redownload twrp, check md5 and flash twrp again would be what I would do.
Flashed several times after redownload, can't get into the twrp. Hash is correct, how fast do I have to be with the + button for getting into it, when my phone reboots?

Did you flash this file?
Once it is flashed with ODIN and the screen turns off for reboot, already hold the three buttons.

That's the point:
you have to be very quick .
That's the reason most people can't get this to run; you have to be fast enough to stop the phone from rebooting all by itself.
I'm sure you don't need to reflash, give it another try.
Flashing the XtreStoLite ROM should be done via TWRP, also, just copy the file to your phone`s root folder using ODIN
and use TWRPs "install" feature; voila.
Have fun!

Ye that's how I used to flash ROMs on my Hox. Just couldn't get the twrp to work.
Edit. Got into recovery, there's no twrp on the Phone.
Only "android system recovery".

Put it in d/l mode, connect to your PC and flash TWRP again with Odin.
I had some issues when using a slightly older version, make sure Odin, TWRP and your Samsung USB drivers are on they're latest version.
