Just got the Moto G for Christmas and I have a few questions - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there!
So my Nexus 5 crapped out on me and I got a Moto G 2015 for Christmas.
I just wanted to ask a couple questions before I started actually it hahaha.
Just finished unlocking the bootloader and rooting, and I was wondering how everyone likes the stock ROM?
Is it worth trying a different one? If so what is the custom ROM people generally use and how does it compare to stock?
I do really like the features stock offers like the gestures to turn on my camera and flashlight, any way I can keep/implement new actions with a custom ROM?
Final question, and it's super elementary but it's been a while since I've had to do this: If I keep my stock ROM, and I want to stay rooted and not lose data, how do I update to the 6.0 ROM while keeping all my files and apps?
So excited to use my phone, thanks!
edit: Thanks for all your input! I'm just sticking to stock for the time being, loving it so far!

Most of the people use cyanogenmod 12.1 you can always try it and if you don't like it just go back to stock. You keep the gestures for light and camera.

Cyanogenmod is almost the same as stock because both ROMs are very close to aosp, but cyanogenmod has some great features. Just try it

Motorola did a surprisingly good job in optimizing the stock Rom. For me stock has by far the best battery life. Performance wise stock vs Cyanogenmod doesn't make big difference. So it's mainly about wheather you need the additional Cyanogenmod features.

Try cm 12.1 or 13 or u can use mokee too it has great fratures too. For battery try pacman rom or cr droid rom, both have battery backup closed to stock and u can also try ressurection remix rom which has some great customisation too.

ROM suggestions pls

Hi everyone, my dad has the photon q on sprint. It has all the latest updates. It drains the battery pretty quickly. Can anyone suggest a ROM, I would prefer aosp based but open to stock based, that is easy to use and good on battery? Thanks everyone.
Stock is probably going to be the best for battery life.

Do you have any suggestions on a good stock based rom that has been debloated and has been optimized?

Unfortunately I only ran the stock ROM for a little while, and it was stock from Moto.
Fortunately Moto doesn't overly skin/theme stock phones so vanilla stock is actually quite pleasant compared to other OEM's.
CM 11 great battery life.

Chose stable custom rom for my sis

Hello people
My sister is considering flashind custom rom on her SGS Advance. And because I'm not familiar with Samsung devices (I have two Sony :>)
I would like to ask you to help me chose the most stable and fully functional custom ROM.
At the moment she has stock JB installed but it has some freezes and doesn't run very well.
What can you recommend? It doesn't have to be the nevest android.
I think I would chose between SkimKat 4.4, CyanogenMod 11 by Team Canjica and VanirAOSP 4.4.4. I know those are very good custom roms.
Can you tell me if there are any issues with those? like reboots, not working features?
If you say custom ROMs, there is no ROM which is bug free but there are stable ROMs.
Stability depends on how and what you use. All 4.4 ROMs have reached to a state where you can use them for daily use.
I am Using CM11 nightly 20140614 and dont have any problems.
All the ROMs have their dev and Q/A threads, you can check them for the most stable builds and the working/non working functionality.
Try the latest vanir aosp its fast, fluid and stable...
For me its the most stable rom yet
Well SlimKat seems to be bugless.
VanirAOSP has some bugs with SystemUI
Go for the slimkat(final). It's the smoothest, fastest rom for our phone.

Test all roms to see which rom fit for you
CM 10.1
Wysłane z WOO-Phablecika 4.2.2...
Vanir is the best!
AOKP 4.2.2 by PV after uninstalling and reinstalling calendar is stable.
Wysłane z AOKP-fonika 4.2.2...
I'd have to go with Vanir. Everything just works and lag is virtually non-existent. The only downside I can see is slightly shorter battery life (could be just my phone though). One advantage that i love is it has it's own updater so it's not much of a hassle to get the latest fixes and improvements!
Another option for her would be to stay with stock JB bit change her kernel to CoCore.

More performance = more battery drain.
@lozohcum : How old is she? She want a girl theme too?
After testing almost every ROM, i think that CM10.1 is the most stable(with good battery backup)...
Liquid smooth 3.2 smooth as liquid with all customizations
just battery backup is 15 to 17 hr is matter

Yeah, you should try this. Cm 10.1 is awesome!
I think u can choose between VanirAOSP or AOSP from j.team.. The last one is disscontinued but its 90% finished and 100% stable.
U can choose one of them, or, simpli, test both because testing is the only (exactly) way to know if ROM is for you (or sister).
See all!

Any optimized 4.4.4 Stock ROM's available for this phone?

Just got it, I dislike 5.0 and want to stay on KitKat, and like the cleaned up, optimized stock ROM;s they have for the XT1032/1033. Is there such a thing for the X1045?
No, your best bet is cm 11.

i used slimkat and saber mod on KK xt1040.
both great, super fast roms but slimkat was INCREDIBLE, specially with ram management.
worth the try.

@emkorial i think our friend @J4mps just gave you the best KK offer in our devices.
Later if you try post how you feel with this ROM as Lollipop can be a deception to many users.

Thanks, but I'm a fan of stock, just cleaned up stock. I'm not really into any of the SlimKat "features". Appreciate the response though

I want to go back to stock to and I am an old fan of Slim Builds. This ram management, is that a extra download? Is there any kernel that I should flash aswell?

Nope! Just flash the rom! it's already optimized.
@emkorial then you should try saber mod KK or CM11. closest stock experience.
i'm patiently waiting to try an official lollipop Slim rom. looks like it will take a while.. but the 5.1.1 roms we have availiable are great (using saber mod right know) but suffer from some issues that google is yet to solve, which makes stable roms like slimkat a better experience, indeed.
i used PAC MAN... http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/4g-development/rom-pac-rom-kk-t2999543
It's a shame that have not update anymore...but rocks in all sense.
Cheers!

I use CM and the battery isn't very good, but it can easily handle a day, perfomance is great, but keep in mind that it has nightly updates and a lot of useful features. As far as I know is the most polished
is here somebody are using blisspop ? maybe this rom is more polished than CM

What's the latest greatest ROM everyone is using for the Idol 3?

I rooted my 6045O last night and I'm excited to try a ROM on this phone. I seen the big thread on the CyanogenMod 12.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/ido...om-cyanogenmod-12-1-alcatel-onetouch-t3225533
But I wanna make sure it's the best ROM for this phone.
you cant read idol 3 section?
Wow thanks for being friendly to the new guy. As I stated, I seen the big thread on the CyanogenMod 12.1. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't a better ROM that you guys might know of before I put time into learning about that one.

I'm not for sure either.great work on all though.I'm leaning toward the dcz rom cause from my understanding its fast, smooth and I like stock style roms.
I didn't see a DCZ thread?

If you gonna flash a ROM know that besides dcz, only fully working ROM is cm12.1 also I'm using 60450
Ok so those are my options. Thanks. Do you know any pros/cons of one vs the other?

Well do you want stock ROM with overclock kernel(DCZ) vs the beauty and customization of cyanogenmod?
All dcz rom is a almost fully debloated stock ROM and custom kernel made by team adrv.

If the stock rom did not have such lag I'd suggest the majority stick with it unless you had a specific reason not to. Since it DOES have lag, I'd suggest the i806/DCZ rom since it is a version of stock that should eliminate the lag and work fully with the hardware. All the other rom's have issues of one type or another.
Resurrection Remix still has several things wrong..the camera off the top of my head. CM12.1 still has issues. Currently the cm12.1 dev does not have the device in hand...neither does the resurrection remix dev....working on rom's without the device is similar to driving blindfolded. You are guaranteed to get SOMEWHERE but it may not be where you want to be.
There are only 3 real roms available other than original stock and I HIGHLY recommend you backup your stock with twrp so you can go back to it for system updates. Why are the system updates so important if you are on another rom? They are the only way you can get modem driver mods/improvements among other things.
I'm not sure which I'd prefer at the moment. Guess I'll just read lol
Sent from my 6045O using Tapatalk
Cm 12.1 (10/29) is most stable on my idol 3 (6045i). Resurrection Remix is not stable. Random reboots, lag and speakers and cam don't work.

Thanks for the tips. I do like performance and stability over anything. So I'll check out DCZ. I've already backed up stock.
