CM13 File manager that includes mounted usb - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I frequently copy files from USB to my phone and back again. My usual methods do not work. None of the typical managers are showing the USB at all. Is there a special manager needed?

I personally use Solid Explorer with the OTG add-on as its the only one that works. It did not work on all Roms for me, not too sure why though. Are you running CM13 nightlies?

ES fIle Manger is supporting USB-OTG, just slide the menu from left and you will see your Usb Folder

Total Commander works very well on CM13, as well as the plugins. I've no idea why hardly anyone seems to be using it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had two that didnt work and the internal file manager didnt have the option of copying TO the usb drive. Seems silly honestly.

Any idea why ES file manager on Android 6 is around 3 times slower than Android 5?

After a few days of usage on Android 6, Total Commander is the only file manager that can properly read a USB mounted, non-adopted drive and copy to it at reasonable speeds. The next closest is ES File manager and its not even a close 2nd .. its about 4 times slower. All the other managers ( I tried 9 of them ) do not recognize the USB drive at all. I suspect they all need updates.

I reboot to twrp and copy the files manually

[Q] Wireless file transfer with G2X

HI,
I've recently purchased the G2X with EagleBlood ROM installed on it.
Any thing works flawlessly , except wireless file transfer
I've tried "AirDroid", "WiFi File Transfer", "Wireless file transfer" , but unfortunately nothing worked.
The same applications working flawlessly on any other Android based device (tablets and phones) I own.
Somebody has any clue ?
Thanks

Try the following remedies:
1) Check your Wifi settings. Make sure it is on either while charging or while you're trying to transfer your data through whichever app you're using.
2) Try sending smaller files (<5kb) just as a test one-by-one to see if that works.
3) I use "AirDroid" & "WiFi File Explore" but you can also try using FTP servers which are offered via "File Expert"
4) Last but not least (I highly doubt this), but you may wanna try reflashing a new ROM or the same ROM again.
Hope I helped.
Try es file explorer. Connect via wifi to your PC/Anastasia and copy/paste

for what it's worth, I use AntTek Explorer and it's network browser functionality, paired up with an FTP server on my LinuxMint Acer Aspire 5517. Works pretty well, but I have to do everything from the AntTek browser, which of course includes pushing files to the device from the laptop (works well up to ~150mb at a time) and to the laptop from the device (good until around ~100mb for me.)

[GUIDE] Enable UMS Mode for External SD Card ***UPDATED***

I have recreated this method based on this post to make it much easier for everyone to get this setup on their devices with complete details.
Confirmed Working With
1. Windows 7
2. Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
3. Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)
4. Other OS versions possible just not yet confirmed/tested (only thing stopping is driver support)
How to Enable UMS Mode on your Verizon Galaxy S III
1. Make sure you are currently rooted ***VERY IMPORTANT***
2. Download and install the Samsung Official Verizon Galaxy S III USB Drivers - Link Here
3. Download and install GScript Lite from the Play Store onto your device - Link Here
4. Download the Verizon Galaxy S III UMS-MTP Switcher Scripts to your computer - Link Here (or attachment at bottom of OP)
5. Create a folder called "gscript" on the root of your internal storage (/sdcard partition)
6. Extract the two scripts from the zip file (from step #4) into that folder on your device - Screenshot Here
7. Open GScript Lite on your device
8. Press the Menu key on your device and select "Add script"
9. Press the "Load file" button and select "UMS Mode.sh", then press the "Save" button and the UMS Mode script will be added to the list
10. Press the Menu key on your device and select "Add script" again
11. Press the "Load file" button and select "MTP Mode.sh", then press the "Save" button and the MTP Mode script will be added to the list
12. Select the "UMS Mode" script from the list and allow Superuser for root access
13. The script will now run and do not worry if GScript Lite force closes at the end as this is perfectly normal
14. On your Windows 7 computer you will see it will try to install "SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device" as one of the drivers and fail *this is normal*
15. Go into Device Manager on your computer, right click "SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device" and select "Properties"
16. Click on the "Driver" tab and click the "Update Driver" button, a prompt will then come up
17. Select "Browse my computer for driver software", then select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" on the next screen
18. Select "USB Mass Storage Device" as the new driver from that list and finish up that install
19. At the end you will see something like this on your computer - Screenshot Here
20. Windows will install final drivers automatically and a new "Disk drive" will show up on your computer, this is your external SD card on your device
21. If you want to return to MTP Mode, just select "MTP Mode" script from GScript Lite on your device and after it force closes you will be back to normal

Benefits of UMS Mode
USB Mass Storage (UMS) Mode used the old way of managing USB storage (like Galaxy S II and so on) before that changed to Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) Mode (aka. Device mode) with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The benefit of UMS Mode is that it will work with special devices that try to read your phone like a car radio head unit will now be able to read the songs, pictures, videos, etc through the USB port properly, as well as your TV (if it has USB support of course), among many other devices. Also it's a much more reliable method of transferring files on your computer since it's basically direct access to the SD Card as opposed working through a special protocol with MTP or PTP Mode. This mod will enable your SD Card to show up as a regular disk drive instead of a device on whatever you plug into with a USB port. Hope that helps explain it a bit without being too technical. For details on why Google decided to switch to MTP Mode see this article.

Awesome, sweet write up. :good:
I may have to try this. The MTP doesn't work on my Mac for some reason. Android file transfer just crashes whenever I try it.
Do you have to enable the script at boot?
Explanation in OP very summary.
Plug the phone where? In the computer or the AC adapter?
If in the computer then why is necessary that to run the script.
If you don't use the GScript Lite then what do you use to run the scripts (Terminal?).
If you copy the script to the phone then the files should have which extension? I mention that because there is nothing attached.
Do not forget that you're dealing here with a lot of noobs.
Please be so kind and review the OP.
If the script works correct then this is a big deal and I congratulate you but do it like a pro.
Cheers.

I just tried it and it works perfectly.
This part is very important:
If Windows fails to find the correct driver, go to the Device Manager and manually set it to use the driver, "USB Mass Storage Device". It seemed to try to stick with the MTP driver in my case.

OK here is what I did.
Installed Script Manager free from the market.
Copied both scripts into sdcard\scripts folder.scripts folder created by myslef.
Opened the mass storages.sh script and run it.
I've got bunch of error messages that it cannot find this and that.
The phone was connected to the computer.
If necessary I can screenshot the errors.

Don't use those scripts, I have issues with them as well. Just copy/paste the OP text into your own script using GScript Lite.
OK let's try. I'll report back.
Edit: OK I did what you proposed. Created the script in GSript Lite and saved then ran. Nothing happens. After I run it GScript FCs. I'm giving up.
This is so simple that I don't think that I'm messing up something.

GScript does have force close issues but don't worry, it still runs as long as you don't see any errors when it's done.
I have just extracted the working GScripts I created and added them to OP for anyone who wants to import them into their GScript Lite. Just create a folder called "gscript" on your internal memory "/sdcard" partition and put those two .sh files into that folder. Then just use the app to add each of them as a new script (load file).

Can someone help me with this part? I have no idea how to do this. I feel so dumb.
Please be informed that I have completely updated and rewrote my own guide for the OP. You will see all details and screenshots necessary to get this setup. If something is not clear please feel free to let me know and I will try to answer as best as I can. Please be advised that this has only been tested and guaranteed to work 100% on Windows 7 based computers so far. I cannot confirm for Windows XP, Mac OS X, Linux, or other devices. If someone can test this elsewhere would be greatly appreciated. Hope this helps you guys.
works perfect/
Great!
Worked great for me. :good:
nice
So what does this enable you to do? Browse the entire internal memory when connected to USB, opposed to just the microSD?
This will enable your SD Card to show up as a regular disk drive instead of a device on whatever you plug into with a USB port. [Q] My android phone all of a sudden stopped letting me drag and drop files onto it

I am running a CM11 Nightly on my jfltevzw. I am trying to update to a new nightly by dragging and dropping it onto my phone, the way I always do. However for some reason when I try to do it now, I get an error message saying "Cannot copy item: This device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected." even though it shows up on my explorer. I have no idea what happened. It was working fine like a day ago. I have rebooted my computer and everything, but it just won't work. Help!
Usually CM roms have this kind of MTP bugs when you move big files, try rebooting your phone, if you still got a problem, try using adb, or Usb Mode, or copy files over wifi (Airdroid, or ES file explorer ..)

Honor 6 plus & Android File Transfer Issues

Hello everyone,
I was using my Honor 6 plus and android fil transfer without any problem for the past month. But suddenly instead of having the all the files stocked in my phone available on the software window, i've an empty window (as shown in the picture below). With this i can transfer my files from my computer but i can't choose were to put them, and the most problematic is i can't transfer files from my phone (cause i can't access any).
I checked most of the developper options (the mtp is enable).
This issue starts after update to emui 4.0. Befor that i rooted my phone using kingroot.
The strange thing is when i try with my girlfriends phone (honor 5c emui 4.0) android file transfer work properly.
Dose someone have an idea ?
Cheers

I can't see a picture. Android file transfer? You're using a Mac then? Did you select files from the notification panel after connecting USB?

Do you have same issue on a Windows computer? Reinstall Android file transfer.

Windows phone

Installed drivers a few times. Win 10 shows my 6 as windows phone. Didn't before I reloaded windows.
When you plug the phone, be sure to activate the transfer mode in the phone settings.
Drivers are included in a folder as a mounted device in "computer"
Yeah
I did that I can see the files on the phone but shows as win phone in devices and shows windows driver

*Win 10 no longer sees the phone period. Under file explorer or in devices. Tried reloading phone and usb drivers numerous times.
Kinda sucks as I can't transfer files, root, twtp etc
So it used to work but now it isn't?
It won't solve your problem but if you need to transfer files you can still use a ftp (numerous apps on the store). Just mount it as a network folder using the local ip the app gives you
I give for now
