Greetings,
My M2 recently threw a wobbler and decided that it didn't like the SD card which wa sinstalled, so reported that there wasa problem with the card, and then promptly decided to format it.
The problem that I now have is that in the Alphabetical list of apps there are two icons/short cuts with a red circular sd card image in the top right hand corner of the icons and the icons simply show a rectangular blue image in perspective. These are now the first two in the list.
Code:

Pressing either returns a message saying, 'Application not found' and I cannot figure out how to remove them having tried everything I can think of, including reboots and resets etc.
Apaert from a factory reset is there any way to get rid of these useless icons ???
Thanks
I also am having this problem. Except my phone recognises the sd card, but I can't transfer items to it, I have r/w permissions, the apps I have on there I can't use, but I can listen to my music and view pictures that I have on there, I have stock lollipop rom and rooted

Hi all,
I had an original Desire since it came out and loved it, so I couldn't resist upgrading to the Desire S when it became available. I like most things about it, the size, the weight and shape. However there are a disappointing number of software bugs that I never experienced with my original Desire.
I know the delete by selection bug has already been documented, this is really annoying as it happens very frequently.
The fine text selection tool that is covered by your finger, I can't believe such a ridiculous problem made it into the final product.
Flash videos on BBC news website, like the streaming snooker for example, don't play, worked perfectly on the Desire but on the Desire S you get a blank white box.
Now the most annoying thing that I hope someone can help me with; I have a 32gb microsd card with about 2700 mp3s on, in the stock music application when I scroll through Albums or Tracks I am unable to fast scroll-as you start the scroll the fast scroll bar appears on the right, you drag that and it will move up and down the whole length of the screen but the letter it is on stays as '#' and the actual list of tracks/albums stays static. When you release the scroll bar the display is back at the start of the listing (if you had manually scrolled half way through the list and then tried to fast scroll, you will end up dumped back at 'A').
Just wondering if anyone knows a quick fix before I start having to shift GBs of data on and off the card, factory resets, formatting the SD card etc!
Thank you.
Well I copied everything off the SD card, formatted it in the phone and then copied the music back on. It seemed fine for a while but after a couple of hours (i.e. probably when it finished indexing 100% of the music files) it is displaying the same problem.
So it could be: invalid/problematic file names/s tripping it up, corrupt file/s, directory structure, number of files plus more.
I can't really think of anything else to try so any thoughts on this problem would be appreciated.
Cheers.
I found one other reference to this problem so far on the 'net from someone who updated their Desire HD to Gingerbread and this issue surfaced.
The problem is actually manageable, most aspects of the Music Player scroll search currently work on my phone, but the Tracks view is still prone to randomly not working as described above, or sometimes it will quick scroll but not display the quick jump letter and will scroll quickly but not jumping whole letters at time.
I've had this issue over and over and found a fix for it. Your pix are there. Don't delete the grey box with ! in it or you will lose your pix for sure. There is also no need to reformat your card. Reformatting has been linked to high blood pressure and short card life.
Here is the fix.
Open your file explorer (I use Root Explorer) and go to sdcard/dcim/.thumbnails.
-You should have two entries at the very top called Thumnaildata with some numbers at the end. One will have a large size and one will have a size of 0.
Delete them BOTH. Then go into settings and unmount your SD card fully and the remount it (this will initiate the Media Scanner). Give it about 3-5mins to fully finish scanning. Open your media gallery and viola they are back and good to go.
Not sure what causes this but what I am finding is that something interupts the write portion of it or a download. This is actually a common problem, so I might actually start a guide/thread of its own.
If it still doesn't work, then last resort and this way works everytime but you'll lose that picture, is open media gallery and long press the grey icon with ! in it and delete, then do the above. I've had to do this one a few times and lost some really great pix, but usually the top part works for me 99% of the time.
I wish I knew this about a month ago. I had pics of getting a hole in one and then I pulled the card to copy to my computer and they were gone, gone, gone. Won't do that again. thanks
I noticed a couple of things upon restart. Do you guys know what it is and why it happens?
1) when im restarting my phone, i realize a quick message appears before it boots. That says "No memory card. phone photo, image, audio, video, album and moments features disabled" (i have one), is this normal? Some times it say no valid card too (I think its referring to SIM). Is this normal? Why does it do that?
2) Also one time when I rebooted, I noticed the widgets on my homescreen was a loaded weird. The spacing and text was not showing up properly, the size of widget looked compressed (weather and news app). What can cause this?
Thanks
This is a new problem... i originally deleted the settings for media storage after reading that that would get rid of the 3 times my ringtones were showing up in my selection list (when they only exist in one location.... i tried to make sure they werent duplicating themselves, the first 2 were silent and the 3rd was the real file.). so deleting that got rid of the 3 times thing, and i thought i had it licked. but every reboot, my phone forgets my ringtone setting... when i go to repick it, its not in the list, only the factory ones are.
Now, i *know* there is the work around of putting the one i want to use on the internal memory.... but thats kinda not the point... id like this to work properly. as it should. as it did before i reflashed. i reflashed the exact same rom and am using the exact same SD card.
upon googling and reading advice, i put a new folder on my sd card called media, and within there, ringtones, and notifications. (the site i read also recommended making one for alarms but i never use my phone as an alarm, ever. and the very rare time i will ill just pick a factory sound). As of right now, every reboot, i have to move the ringtone i want to use out from that folder, and then put it back in, causing media scanner to re-run, which then finally, once that is done, allows it to show up in the list along with the factory default choices.... but doing this every reboot just to have the sound i want is a ROYAL pain......... before i reflashed, it would forget what i had chosen on occasion, but at least then i could just go into the list and reselect it before... it didnt forget it existed, but only that i had chosen it. at the time that was a royal pain.... but now, id take that over whats been going on.
before reflashing i had a folder called "sounds" that it was able to see, all the time.... i had left it the same... but when my phone couldnt see that anymore, i looked for other ways of making it work.
Not sure if this is related but i have on occasion (2 or 3 times now) had my gallery forget about ALL of my pictures on external (whcih is where i keep all of them). deleting gallery data at least fixes that, and that doesnt happen every reboot either.
and before anyone asks, there is no ".nomedia" file in with my ringtones, or in with any of my pictures.
advice anyone??
anyone?? Ive already tried everything google-able

The same thing just happened to me on my Samsung S9. I found this post and re-applied the default theme. The icons came back but I had to go back and reset my wallpaper. I had settings set to update over wifi only. It did say there was an update so I switched that setting off and let it update. Rebooted again and still lost the icons. Still fixed by reapplying the theme.

Yes this is the only fix for the moment I'm afraid or you can go and kill your current launcher process. This will bring the icons back... but after rebooting the icons disappear again. I contacted Samsung here in Greece and they connected with me with Smart Tutor. They said it's probably a bug but they recomended a factory reset... They said after an update they recomend a factory reset for the patch to install more smoothly... This MAY eliminate the bug... MAY... don't know if it's worth all the fuzz of a factory reset just for a MAY... The funny thing is that I have a folder on a home screen with all the games that are currently moved at my SD card and they show up just fine after a little while (time to load from SD card). This is the opposite... instead of losing icon the shortcut the icon of the app its self gets lost. You can delete and replace the icon of a shortcut from the appdrawer but... you cant replace something in the appdrawer...
