Hey Guys,
i'm using the newest Matr1x Kernel, v11.0, CFS
and NSCollab 1.0.60 with my Nexus S.
CPU govenor is Lazy, i/o sheduler is deadline. Deep Idle is on.
Min CPU is 100 MHz, Max is 800 MHz, standard voltage.
13 h of usage, 8 % battery left. How can i improve?
I wouldn't consider my usage of the phone as heavy, screen is off quite often, especially at work. At work i'm writing some texts, browse a little bit on facebook, write some **** on whatsapp. Phone ist mostly off, i mostly respond to messages i get.
After work i browse some, play some games (Zenonia at the moment ), download something on wifi etc. Not too much in my opinion. Still battery quite sucks.
So my questions are:
1. Why is my battery life that bad? Phone is 1 week old, so battery shouldnt be broken...
2. I would like to know, if anyone can tell me about voltages? I would like to reduce voltages, but i'm a nooby and don't want to "test" it, cause i don't want to break the phone
Can anyone tell me, how much i can reduce arm voltage/int voltage? I'm speaking of my 100 MHz/800Mhz setting, it's still quite fast and i want better battery life, i think reducing voltages could help.
I'm open to any suggestion about getting a better battery life at best i would like the nexus to live 2 day without charges, with medium usage, if that is even possible.
cheers
All you can do is TEST there is NO one size fits all
but generally you can go about -25 across the board .. someone with more knowledge than me can correct me if i'm wrong =]
i get +26 hours easily on moderate to heavy use but my roms don't last for more than 10 hours
Thanks for your answer.
Does anyone else have any idea about the quite bad battery life?
I forgot to mention that i use Go Launcher Ex with a Touchwiz 4 Theme and the Go Keyboard, but i don't think they suck up all the energy :/
pisses me off quite a bit, 26h+ with moderate to heavy usage would be a dream!
Like it's now i need to charge it every day, and on weekend twice, once before i go, and over night (well while i sleep, doesnt need to be night

come on , be happy with what you have
i even have to use 2 batteries if in heave use !
try set display on auto-change or medium brilliantness
peronally , i think display is taking away more juice besides CPU...
kill GPS BT 2G/3G WIFI when you don't need them , specially GPS
and if you are not in hurry , use 2G data connection instead of 3G, because 3G took double even trouble juice then 2G
also , maybe some applications running at high CPU usage background , but i think this is highly unlikely
forgot to mention , also kill NFC

Hey, Thanks for you answer.
I forgot to mention.
Wifi and GPS are off, only turning it on if i need it(and that's rare). NFC is always off, i don't need it. Brightness is off auto-change and instead on the lowest value i can chose in the settings (still bright enough)
I'm checking RAM and CPU usage from time to time, so there shouldn't be the problem. Well i have 3g on all the time, but still, even then shouldn't i be able to get 20h+ or so?
What i also forgot to mention, i've the SLCD, the i9023 version. I know it has higher battery usage because of the display, but well, i think 13h is a bit low.
@polobunny: thanks, i will look into it

When i got my phone, the battery sucked. But after a week or so after some battery cycles it got better. So i advice you just to wait.
I don't use auto brightness, No auto sync but i have data always tuned on. I am able to get 10-20 hours with moderate usage.

no really ,my phone is i9023 as well , by the way , it's Super Clear LCD , SLCD is other thing of SONY.
SA screen only saves power when it is on dark color such as black , grey etc, when it is on white color , it takes juices same as(even more ? don't know for sure) Super Clear LCD , this has no different ,also you may noticed that default wall paper of Nexus S is dark color , that's why
back the time when i was using stock , i could easy hang on a day , but ever since i change to MIUI and brought second battery ... i have to use second battery on MIUI if my usage is same as the time i was using stock
---------- Post added at 04:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:23 PM ----------
about 3G ,
i have some power saver like applications , which have function of estimated work time
it shows , at this moment , 59% battery = 3G internet 1 hour and 39 minutes ,
other one shows 2 hours and 12 minutes
there may be some variants but ... you know , 59% power only last about 2 hours of 3G ...
---------- Post added at 04:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:25 PM ----------
you should have try stock first , because in my opinion , stock has longest battery life
i haven't used NSCollab , so i can't say anything about it ...

I used stock for the first week, it wasn't better imho, atleast that's what my feeling says didn't look at the actual times i lasts with stock :O
but feels better with nscollab
About the display, thought SLCD was short for Super Clear LCD, well atleast you got what i meant
I thought about power saving apps too, wouldn't be bad if phone does only 2g if the screen is off etc, but first i wanted to get a good rom/kernel and settings
i think i will try ICS stock rom if its out, look if that gets me a better battery life, or then flash around till i'm satisfied
I could not find anything on this on these forums nor through a series of Google searches, but I have two Verizon-branded HTC One M8's and they both overheat pretty easily, I understand that phones get hot, and the metal on the HTC One M8 makes this a bit more extreme, but when playing Plants Vs Zombies 2, God of Light, and sometimes general Media playback, the phone gets extremely hot to the point where I cannot hold it. It happens within 2-4 minutes. I was wondering if anyone else had this happening to them. If anyone could shed some light for me, I would really appreciate it.
U def have some problems if u can't even hold it... I would exchange both
If u search on here youll see a few threads. It seems the only thing in common here is the silver color model does this more often and the dark grey colored model does this less. Relevance, Idk but just the common theme. I would say for sure hands down get a new replacement!
I don't play those games but do play dead trigger 2 often on highest graphic settings. This game by far has to be one of the most graphic intense mobile games for a gpu imo at least. I can play 20min straight and using the GSam battery app after playing the highest I've seen the temp get is 98 degrees F. That is nothing for a device like this. My last device was over clocked tegra 3 chip on the HTC one X+ and 10min of same game phone got to around 115-120 degrees F, now that is Hot!
Since everyone has an opinion on the word "Hot" I would suggest getting GSam battery app for free. Gives u the exact temp of ur phone to help compare. I also have a case on my device so in theory my phone should get even hotter, less ventilation.
---------- Post added at 06:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:59 PM ----------
Hottest I ever got this device so far is 101 degrees F. I did this on purpose too to see what it takes since this thing does not get hot. Had to play YouTube videos, download mp3 files, play dead trigger 2, download emails, be on Facebook, all literally at the same time and running in the background multi tasking between them all. Now this is a hell of a phone!
Thanks guys, my phone is hitting 113 F on GSam playing for 10 minutes, and there are literally no background tasks running. I took off the DotView case before running the test. I have both the Silver and Dark Grey, both giving similar results. I'll check with Verizon, seeing how you can play Dead Trigger 2, and not hit that number.

For sure they are bunk bro, return to Verizon ASAP for free exchange for a new one on both! I was playing Dead Trigger 2 last night with no other apps open for over 20min straight. Hottest the phone got was 105 degrees F and just felt warm, not Hot by any means. I do have a incipio duo case on it so not sure the "feel" of the heat when device is naked but again just felt "warm" at this temp. For that kind of workload though i think this would be standard for my device.
Hi, just wondering what sort of battery temperatures you guys are getting on the U11.
I did a few informal observations and I don't know if I should be worried about the results. Especially the normal usage one (around 5-10 degrees hotter than the M8) and the charge temps (maybe just normal with QC3?). I won't record many 4k videos or play 3d games.
Room temperature: 28°C
Idle for long periods of time: very close to room temperature
Light/normal usage for 5-10 minutes (browsing, messaging apps, light camera usage, with wifi or strong phone signal): 35'°C to 40°C, closer to 35°C
Charging with the official charger and phone mostly idle: low 40s
Heavy usage (20 mins playing Dead Effect 2 or recording several 4k videos on a row): 46°C. In case it is relevant, CPU usage peaks at 56°C at this time.
(I used GSam Battery Monitor and CpuTemp for the readings, also using the clear case provided with the phone)
Hi,
I have the same problem, my phone come to zero on 4-6 hours only, and the phone come verry HOT til 51 degre
---------- Post added at 12:36 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:32 AM ----------
And when i try to film on 4K the camera force close du the phone come verry hot
---------- Post added at 12:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:36 AM ----------
I have also a HTC U Ultra but i have never rich this temperature.
Il will call HTC for change my phone, because is not normal for a phone with Snapdragon 835 CPU to come HOT like this.
Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the Samsung Galaxy S9+ stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Only two days in, but this is one thing I'm really loving compared to the Moto X Pure I came from. Lots of time with maps/gps/screen on time and some gaming plus picture taking yesterday, NEVER felt any heat coming from the phone like I did on past few devices.
during charging yes!
Warm as hell when plugged in after only a few minutes. But during normal usage and playing games, I don't feel much at all... except for the warmth my hand eventually creates.
if i use 4g and play spotify while driving it gets warm but not really that hot that you cannot hold it long
Heat up while using mobile data (2g/3g/4g)
well it's been 5days sincei am using Samsung Galaxy S9+ i digged most of it's feature and also performance and found while using Mobile Datamy phone got warmed els i played Asphalt8, Assassin's Creed, Need For Speed it stayed cool but if you are playing high graphics game while charging you can feel little heat over all it's awesome
Mine overheats bad. I have the Exynos model which seems to be plagued with issues though.

I also have Exynos version and no overheating unless I charge it or use the camera for a long period, which is considered normal.
Mines hitting around 34-37 degrees now on normal usage is that ok?
Exynos here. Terrible battery life. Always warm to the touch. It stays warm even when I use it in power saving mode. No social media apps nothing. Really pissed off.
My s9+ never heats up unless I use it in direct sunlight with full brightness. Even then it isn't as warm as my previous phones. It doesn't heat up when I'm charging though granted I never use it during that time. Exynos version.
Stays warm even with the slightest casual phone usage.
No game playing, no video watching, no social media browsing, though have a few installed.Exynos variant, S9 plus.
Mine heats up too. For no reason
Haven't noticed any heating or even warmth except with heavy use like active GPS navigation or gaming. Even gaming feels cooler than previous S7. I suspect those having heating issues also have relatively poor battery life - something not right with their device perhaps.
I think all with 9810 chips have these iseues. The issues are random and not constant.

Used the SM-G965F for 1 month off ebay to have better custom rom support and all and then switched to the SM-G9650 available locally. Hands down G-9650 is every bit better especially battery and no heating.

I believe It's due to the poorly optimized scheduler triggering the smaller a55 cores which are bigger than last generations a53s producing more heat and killing batterylife. It's not constant, doesn't happen everytime but at the same time - unpredictable.

Does the second one support LTE band 3(1800) and band 40(2300)? Any idea?

After lot of research I have finally confirmed that Pixel 3 / XL:s are thermal throttling at very medium temperatures compared to example OnePlus phones, causing stuttering, framedrops, camera hangouts etc... I even tested it in Call of duty Mobile and with cooled phone i was able to play without any stutters, solid frametimes. Without cooling that game is literally unplayable.
I have found thermal-engine conf files from /system/vendor/etc, but those files are "read only" and cannot be changed. I tried with android pie and with TWRP to modify, even delete those files, but they always come back when you boot up your phone.
When booted to android and through ADB shell, commands like chmod 777 /system/vendor/etc are not working. My question is, is there a way to change those files or are they hard locked? Here is a link that confirms that it is actually possible to manipulate those files, but that poster is gone from the forum, and he is/was a professional software engineer, so im asking help here.

Bump because this is the reason we cannot do any overclocking on these phones.
It sounds like it's on the system partition which is read-only(my knowledge of the partitions in android is limited)? So maybe this is something that would have to be added to the .img file when flashing a custom ROM....
Maybe use a Magisk mirror?

I made a magisk module to disable thermal throttling.
try it
On pie you can disable verity and then files are easy to modify. On Q the module option is your only option.

I checked the zip. and found that there were Blueline confs and then renamed those as "Crosshatch" and now it works! I dont find words to thank you enough!! So happy now you just basically stopped my one month pain! Now i have tested, no thermal throttling cpu at 2.8 ghz on thermal throttling app. Looks good but i was little shocked when cpu hits 52 celsius anf battery 51 celsius while gaming cod mobiles battleroyale. Otherwise it was almost buttery smooth but phone gets quite hot too. What you think is it running too hot now? Maybe i should try to modify those original confs, but there were so much of those values that it can be hard for me..

yes, I think I shouldn't override the files with empty files under some circumstance.

Hi.
Can this option "thermal hack" works on battery charging. At high percentage it reduces the charging rate to about 1000mAh
Could be there a solution to leave it 18watt or at least 15watt

Im pretty sure that this "thermal hack" isnt going to speed up charging, but I havent tested it with timer. This mod disables CPU, GPU, modem and battery thermal throttling, but the safe functions (shutdown) are working properly, so you should be fine, if pushing it to the limits. I dont guarentee if this can ruin the hardwares, but at least its safefucntion will shutdown the phone, but everybody will use this with their own responsibility!
Installation:
- Rooted device with working magisk
- Attached zipfile in the phones storage
- Go to modules in magisk, find that zip and tap on it, reboot
Thermal Throttling off, gaming performance
Okey, so im little confused now.. Even when disabled or with custom thermalmode, no matter of game settings, I still get very stuttery gaming performance from my Pixel 3 XL. (Cod battleroyale is the worst, Pubg works better) . What is Bottlenecking so much? My old Oneplus 5 handles better Cod Mobile BattleRoyale.. In benchmarks my Pixel destroys OP 5, but the games just arent working without a lot of stutters... Frames are as expected (50-60 fps) but there is a lot inconsistent frametimes aka. stutters.
Have tried with android Pie, Havoc OS nothing helps.. I just want to know what can be the problem? Low Ram speed (in Pc world that matters so thinking if Google has used some **** ram), Ram management problems in the software? Cod Mobile eats 1,0-1,3 gb of ram and I have free ram when booted about 1,5-1,7 gb.
