ota updates. - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently have cos12.1 installed along with twrp. Will ota updates still work or would I need to flash stock recovery to receive the ota? Any download links for stock YOG4PAS3JL recovery? Thanks ?

No, OTA won't work since you have TWRP, either reinstall stock recovery to install the OTA or install the signed version of the OTA that will work with TWRP. They are all in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/official-cm11s-roms-ota-updates-t2906746

[Q] OTA Update

So Cyanogen sent out the 44R ota today and I am rooted with a custom recovery. My current software version is 38R android 4.4.4. So in order to do the ota:
1. I need to go into SuperSU and do the permanant unroot.
2. Reboot
3. Flash stock recovery.
So for step 3 I downloaded the 38R stock firmware from cygen's site. Can I extract it and flash just the recovery? Will this work?

You don't need to do any of that. No unrooting is required. You can flash the OTA with a custom recovery. All you need to do is initiate the update process through your Settings menu.

I'll try that next time but I used my method and it worked fine

Of course it did, but what I'm saying is it's completely unnecessary to do all that.

If you uninstall Xposed you can use the normal OTA. If you don't want to uninstall Xposed you can use the modified OTA. The custom recovery and root make no difference either way.

hey thank you very much timmaaa! works perfect after update i only need root again
Thanks for the help everyone!

[Q] CM12s OTA safe with custom recovery/root?

I'm on the original CM12s rom, rooted with TWRP recovery. I just got the notification for the latest OTA. Is it safe to go ahead and install this or not? (i have turned off updating the stock recovery in Developer settings)
Cheers
It's safe.

Agree, don't forget to flash root again after flashing the OTA. (in case you use an external root)
Where is the OTA downloaded to? When i press update it goes into TWRP..

Unable to Flash the Latest Incremental OTA ZNH2KAS254

Hi,
I was on a rooted Oneplus One having the TWRP recovery. I got the notification for the latest Incremental OTA ZNH2KAS254 update. I know that its not possible to install this incremental update if you are rooted and are using TWRP as your recovery. I read some of the posts and it was suggested there to unroot the phone, install the stock recovery and then try to install the OTA. I downloaded the stock cyanogen recovery and flashed it, which removed the TWRP recovery. I then unrooted my phone using the option in the SuperSU app.
Now i have an OPO which is having stock recovery and is unrooted. When i try to install this incremental update, i am not able to get through. The update goes through the installation process and ends up booting in the stock recovery with an exclamation mark on the cyanogen robot. I then decided to factory reset the OPO completely by wiping everything that was there on the phone.
Even then i am not able to install the incremental OTA and land up with the same error as mentioned above.
What am i doing wrong? Could someone please help and let me know how to get this incremental update installed? I would also like to install TWRP and root the device once i am done installing the incremental OTA.
Cheers,
Gokul
You're in the OPX section. You have OnePlus One, right?
A mod can move it?
If you are on Oxygen OS, I think you have to flash the full rom zip disponible here :
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/oxygenos-2-1-4-for-the-oneplus-one.425544/
If Cyanogen, I don't know.

Unrooting your phone won't help. You have to flash latest signed zip (if available).

Saurav,
Thanks for your message.
Since i do not have TWRP installed, i believe i would have to flash the latest signed zip using ADB. Am i right?
Secondly, would it be possible for me to flash the TWRP zip using stock recovery?
Cheers,
Gokul

Yes, you can sideload latest signed zip or can even flash from stock recovery.

Flash stock Motorola System Update after flashing TWRP

Ok so here is my issue. I have flashed TWRP 3.0.2-r5 by squid2 and have been using it for a long time. Motorola recently released security patches for osprey. I downloaded the update but couldn't flash it. Obviously the update is signed by Motorola and maybe that is why TWRP can't flash it.
Is there any way to temporarily disable TWRP and go back to stock recovery?
Flash stock recovery through fastboot. As long you have not made any changes to the stock ROM, kernel change, root, deleting or adding system apps, modifying the build.prop, etc you should be good. If you need TWRP, you can flash it after applying the update.

Thanks... could you provide a link for stock recovery? XT1550 2GB Indian version? I found something here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/general/index-moto-g-factory-firmware-images-t3169639
but not absolutely sure.
You'll need to download the factory firmware for your model and Android version and extract the recovery from there. I do not have that model.

Thanks a lot
It's XT1550_OSPREY_RETASIA_DS_2GB_6.0.1_MPI24.107-55-2_cid7_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.XML.zip, last link under XT1550 section.

Applying system update 1.27.401.5 to my rooted HTC U11

I'm using a rooted HTC U11 with the latest TWRP and Magisk. Since yesterday I get a message that tells me to upgrade my HTC U11 to version 1.27.401.5. I can't install the downloaded ota so I need a complete rom. Where can I find that?
Maybe next door
Too much info error... So it's possible to flash an OTA over my rooted stock rom using TWRP?
Since the OTA is already downloaded to /data/data/com.htc.updater/files can I just copy it to the root folder and then flash it with TWRP?

No, TWRP cannot handle an OTA completely. You have to reflash stock recovery.
And even if you reflash stock recovery the OTA could fail to apply.
Have you modified your system partition after rooting? Any mods that install to system instead of data?
If you have modified the system partition the OTA won't apply. You have to reset to stock, i.e. by using an RUU

I'm still on the stock rom with TWRP as recovery. Afaik I didn't use any mods that install to system instead of data.
I just want to install the current version 1.27.401.5. If that's not possible by OTA then a full rom would also be welcome.

Get @LlabTooFeR 's Maximus HD rom, you'll always get the latest updates on an optmized stock rom

Then you might get the OTA applied by
reflashing stock recovery
deinstalling Magisk
