Help needed here!!!! - General Questions and Answers

Days before I bought a second hand Oneplus Two phone, and the seller reset the phone before posting.
Now the situation is Google keeping asking me to verify the account, but even the seller give his account information to me I still cannot verify account successfully.
Every time when I input the account password or Google security code and click NEXT, the system will jump back to the very beginning step automatically -- I tried and failed dozens of times already!
Who can tell me what I should do to verify the device? The seller is very nice, he will offer me all personal information abt his former Google account.

there is no magic fix.
if the device ever had a 5.0 build on it, and is capable of being flashed back to it, the security will be gone thats asking for the password.
other than that, there is no fix other than getting it to take the correct password/etc.
this new security is great. problem is, no one knows about it. if you remove the accounts from the device before factory resetting, this security wont be activated.

I think the carriers and Google didn't do enough awareness about FRP.....
XDA will be flooded with these issues very soon.

there have been a good bit of of post on it so far. it started with 5.1, and as time progresses, as with devices that shipped with 5.1 or newer, there will be no back door.

[Q] Themes in App Store not Downloading

Hi all,
First time post, been enjoying all the advice on how to root and all that jazz.
As the title says it; I'm having problems downloading any theme from the app store. Any theme I choose and hit "Download" on it just brings up a window for 1/2 a second that I believe says "Downloading" but never actually does anything. Another weird thing, the other 2 themes that are kind of defaulted for options that you can download both work. I'm not sure if this is a silly question, however I can't seem to figure it out as no one else seems to have this issue.
Random pieces of information:
1. Yes, my phone is rooted, however this issue was still around before I did so.
2. I have the AT&T variant Galaxy S6.
3. I've checked to see if there's any apparent apps I disabled that may cause it but the only app that seems like it may be related is "Theme Store", and that of course isn't disabled.
Thank you!
Did you disable the Samsung Account? It doesn't work without the Samsung Account apk.

Double checked, it is not disabled.
Thanks for the idea though!
Create a new Samsung account.
I had this exact same problem and was able to fix by creating a new account. My old account was one I had created when the galaxy nexus was released.

This may be a dumb question, but maybe it will avoid me a lot of wasted time, but how do I do that? And Thanks for the help!

Well, I think I figured out how to do it.
I made another account and registered my device on that Samsung account while un-activating it on my old one. However, I can't add the account on my phone, whenever I go to accounts on the settings page and choose Samsung account it does nothing, absolutely nothing. It just goes back a menu where it shows my account without allowing to input any information.

Did you ever figure out how to fix this? I wanted to download a camera mode, but realize nothing would happen when I tried to install. I went back and enabled all of my disabled apps in Titanium Backup. But unfortunately I still cannot add a Samsung account. Same thing happens when I choose Samsung from the account types, nothing happens.
I've got a girl that I work with that is having the exact same issue. She has the 128gb Verizon model and essentially nothing happens when you try to install a theme. Same thing happens with the Samsung account as well, as soon as you go into add the account and press Samsung account, it just bumps you right back out to the accounts screen. I've tried clearing data for Samsung Account, Galaxy Apps, Theme Manager, etc. Not quite sure what the issue is.
You're not alone
I'm having the same issue after attempting to install new camera modes via galaxy apps store.
support advised me to disable Samsung account and clear the cache... now i can't add it back despite it being enabled.. its just an endless loop .. add account - chooses Samsung account - flips back t previous screen

Sorry for not posting any updates.
Well, this isn't probably what you want to hear, but I fixed it by doing a Factory Data Rest. I don't know if everyone else's issues are exactly what I was experiencing, but I noticed when I did this reset and had to link a Samsung Account upon first power up for the phone. I'll be honest, I don't remember doing this the first time I got the phone (This is my first Samsung Account so I wasn't aware you had to do this). Then, of course, I checked this issue and it was fixed. I know this isn't really figuring out how to fix the issue, but it worked for me.
Good luck guys!
same thing bro...

I wasted hours on multiple days speaking to every venue availing for support and none were even aware it was possible and all claimed a factory reset. On the flip side verizon offered offered a refurbished replacement, but unless this continues I'd opt for the reset which fixed my account and now it runs like a dream... a super fast octabrain dream
I was facing the same problem.
Reading through this thread I've figured out what was wrong.
I have an old Samsung Account and this account was blocked on Samsung due to inactivity and new T&Cs to agree.
I've accessed the Samsung site (https://account.samsung.com) and reactivated my account.
After that, I became able to download the themes from Themes Store.

Do a factory reset get the theme then root if it still dont work then call samsung.

I have a same problem. My phone not rooted. I have package disabler. I enabled all disabled packages, rebooted phone, deleted dalvik, but no succes. I can't create samsung account in phone settings >accounts and theme store do not work. I do not want factory reset, because after needs a lot of time to configure phone.

I restored my phone using Mobile Upgrade Q, but now I'm locked out

After doing a full reset on my phone using Mobile Upgrade Q (which successfully removed CM and TWRP from my phone) I get an error message when trying to set up Android saying "sign in with a google account that was previously synced on this device." I've only ever used one google account with this device, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Its factory reset protection, you have to log in with the google account associated with the phone prior to reset.... To avoid this in future or if you sell phone just remove your Google account in settings... accounts before factory reset... It's the equivalent of iCloud locking on Apple, designed to cut down on theft.... If you cant remember the password you can go to the Google account recovery page for assistance
https://accounts.google.com/signin/recovery
I don't understand. I WAS logged into the account prior to the reset, on CM. It's the only account I've ever used on this phone, and I haven't changed the password.
How do I unlock it? Is it even possible, or does it think I stole the phone?
Is it possible to reinstall TWRP and CM now? Just to have a useable phone?

Here is a writeup on how and why frp works like it does....
http://www.pcnexus.net/2015/12/what...gle-72-hour-lockout-android-lollipop.html?m=1
There are some hacks around it, but I have never tried them, best method to avoid frp headaches is to simply remove your Google acct prior to any reset
Is there anything special I have to do to login in 24 hours? Is it 24 hours from the first time I reset or the last time I reset (I wiped it a few times trying to get in)?

Thank you for the link. Just to be clear, in case future people ever find this thread: during the 24 hour lock out, you cannot unlock the phone, EVEN WITH THE CORRECT ACCOUNT NAME AND PASSWORD. Oddly enough, the device can still receive phone calls, and displays the caller's contact name. So it's definitely logged into my account, it's just locked out of doing anything except receiving calls. Also, I can hear that the phone is receiving text messages, though I have no way to read or reply to them.
Once I unlock it, I will update this thread with how and what it looks like, again, just in case someone finds this thread in the future, because this information is hard to find.

This happened to me yesterday so I hope it works for me as well.
You know what, I just happened to be looking for the official Alcatel factory flash tool and came across this post because after a few factory resets I was able to get the phone to boot up......BUT, as described above, the phone will only accept the PREVIOUS password which I forgot.... I simply requested a new password be created and it doesn't unlock the phone.
So now I too must wait 24, wow.
This is BS.. I mean, yeah I factory reset the phone because after my son accepted a system update, his phone kept bootlooping and his battery doesn't want to accept a charge now (so it seems per the display).....but what if I want to sell my phone? We have to remove the gmail account prior??????? Wow way to go Alcatel. And if this is actually an Android feature, it sucks.
Now, can anyone direct me to the actual official Alcatel upgrade tool????? I want to just flash this stock unrooted phone to out of box condition so we can trade his phone in. The Alcatel website no longer offers it from what I can see. Thanks!

It's an android security feature introduced in 5.1 LP, it only triggers the wait if you reset any way other than from settings. It's similiar to an iCloud lock, so yes if you sell phone remove google account, or if your buying a used phone make sure the google account is removed prior to reset, or boot up phone and make sure you can get passed the lockout before buying it!!

Don't hard reset your vivo

This is a warning for all who maybe thinking about hard resetting their phone.
Strangest thing happened to my vivo.
I hard reset my vivo and now I can't login to my Google account. Due to that I can't use the phone, it doesn't even load Google login screen for me to enter my credentials. It's essentially screwed.
Vivo can't help and have asked me to go to the nearest support centre, which is in Asia somewhere and I'm in the UK. I did tell them not possible so they apologised and said unable to help even though phone is aimed at international market.
I'd hold of buying vivo products in the future for now until they have support for Europe customers.
In recovery there is an option to download and flash the latest firmware
you can just go to setting and find account setting to add google account
then go to apkmirror to find play store apk, download it and install, done
It is advised to log out any google accounts and other proprietary apps that have security activations, like Mi Account in xiaomi devices, before you hard reset any phone.
On my xiaomi device when i reset 2 options apear, one is access wifi settings so i can enter my wifi, second is log in on my Mi Account after the first option, so i can unlock my device.
hope it helps.

I assume this issue happen only on global version of Chinese phones that has Google play services and Play store pre installed out of box.
Because I've never had that kind of issue with Chinese version of Chinese phones.
BTW I'm waiting end of the week or earlier next week receive my Chinese version of Dual Display.

Yesterday I've hard reset my dual display Chinese version for the first time after purchasing 1.5 month ego and after installing manual play store/play services via Vivo store app everything worked as normal.
No any kind issue.
So problem you had its only occur on global version of the device.
So with Chinese version people won't have to worry of dealing with frustrated situation as you lived with global version with Google account login.

I have the chinese version and after reading this I made sure to sign out of my Google account and vivo account just to be safe before reset, thanks! The only problem I had after reset was that i could nt sign into my vivo account, I know my password as i use it all the time and it was working before the reset (whenever i made changes to some app vivo asks for password). I had to contact vivo through messenger and they reactivated my account ( for some reason it got suspended)

Can fishy email images effect android devices?

Hi Guys,
I got a strange email in my emails, when looking at the email from / to it looked spoofed and I was about to click back but I accidentally clicked 'Download images', the ones that are usually blocked when opening an email, not actual attachments. Can JPEGs etc... contain anything malicious?
I factory reset my phone after that happened but that didn't stop my getting 3 calls from Africa this morning, 2 within one minute.

They can, eg Stagefright or later in 2016 this
https://www.forbes.com/sites/thomasbrewster/2016/09/06/google-android-one-photo-hack/
or just last year
https://www.komando.com/security-pr...e-over-an-android-phone-with-an-image/543634/
which you phone may be vulnerable to if not still getting regular updates
and just this month patch also has media framework bug allowing possible escalation of privileges
https://9to5google.com/2020/06/01/pixel-june-20-security-patch/
however it could just be a coincidence you got a storm call, they just use computers to call from a number list or random numbers.
A factory reset may not get rid of malware that has been able to install itself in the system partition. You need to reflash the full factory image again. Or if your phone not getting updates any more from manufacturer you should ALSO flash a trusted custom rom ie Lineage OS from official source (hopefully there is one for your EXACT model) after you have clean flashed the most recent manufacturer ROM.
I use Android 10 with security patch from April.
Would I be right in assuming that the phone needs to be rooted for anything to be installed on the system partition? I don't have mine rooted.
Last time I reflashed a device, even with official firmware it stopped me getting updates.
It is quite annoying since pretty much everybody keeps saying it is safe to open a spam email as long as a link is not clicked or attachment downloaded but that appears to be rubbish since the images rendering within an email seem to be enough for a phone to be hijacked.

You should be pretty much covered for known security issues as you are on April security patch. Though there are of course likely be other unpublished vulnerabilities. You can try submit suspect images to virustotal.com see if it's already known.
Unfortunately malware can install into system partition even if you have not rooted your phone in some cases eg if vulnerability is in already privileged process. (note: I'm not security expert)
Given you are pretty much up to date with known patches I think the phone calls likely just a coincidence, unless you have more indications of hacked phone or other accounts etc.
Edit: PS even if those images were malicious you may be OK as you have recent security patch so they might not have been able to compromise your phone.

Strange thing is Tuesday night before this, I got a reset password email for Netflix... i didn't think too much of it and don't know why they would do that.
That is before Thursday when I accidentally opened a spam mail then later on Thursday got a few calls from an African Number.
Then today I got 3 password reset emails from my other email account, of course the reset requests went to my email.
Microsoft really suck too because I cannot get on my email account from a browser since when I put my phone number in it says, try again later. I am already logged in through the app though.

so many reset password requests suggests something is going on, possibly your phone but maybe more likely just one of your online accounts passwords leaked, there were a couple of big ones recently, check haveibeenpwnd or is it just that you reset your phone?

Well I got myself an Iphone SE for now, heard that they are sandboxed as long as they are not jailbroken.. however I removed the native mail app since that has a vulnerability now which is quite famous.
I know it iPhone is a bit of a swear word around here, but it is the best option until re-installing the OS on Xioami mi 8 pro.
Hopefully there is a way to set mi 8 into recovery without using third party tools, XZ1 had a feature to re-install android but that was pretty rare. It is a shame the storage space is so awful on it or I wouldn't have wanted to change phone

Google FRP

I got my uncle a GP 3a XL last July and he Passed in October and I got a few of his things and the google pixel is locked given I do not know his password for his gmail nor his number active any longer. Any hope of unlocking it and use it or toss in a box for keep sake?
You can use it by just wiping it, though you would lose his data. Are you trying to retrieve data or just simply make the phone usable?
I would like to use the phone.
Wiping it wouldn't bypass frp (hence the name "factory reset protection"). Maybe since it was your uncle's, you could info his gmail then set a password, then you could log into the phone.
I believe there is a process through Google to get the email password reset or cleared but you would need to submit a death certificate
