This Post Assumes You Know The How To
- Carefully read this whole post.
- Copy files to sdcard; using adb to install apk's.
- Install 2ndInit Recovery.
- Restore Nandroid backups using Clockwork Recovery.
- Flash sbf's with RSD Lite (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537).
- Install CM7 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798).
- Root Froyo with SuperOneClick (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913709).
So please dont ask for how-to's on these topics; use the search bar.
Install & Notes
- You must start with a 'clean' install (a factory reset is not enough).
- Radio files included; T-Mobile 850, 1700, 2100MHz .
-- Use Basebandswitcher in /sdcard/bb_extras to change radio to your region; (http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html).
- GPS NTP servers set to North America.
-- Open /system/etc/gps.conf and edit the ntp servers in this file to your region; (http://www.pool.ntp.org/).
- CM7 requires a Froyo kernel; while CM9 requires a Gingerbread kernel.
-- Flash the correct kernel immediately after installing a nightly build or restoring a nandroid; before rebooting.

1. Boot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
2. Install CyanogenMod 7.1.0-11 or a Nightly, 2011-Nov-01 or later.

haven't tried it yet but it looks really impressive. Still some thinks I would change and will put back into this rom, because I think it is a little bit TOO slim, but this is everybody's own decision.

i can see that you have removed talk.apk. isn't it needed to be on the phone to access the market?

Good job. Thanks for that tutorial on knocking off some cmg. Can you by any chance tell us how to make those boot only files that other mods put up. It really helps to downgrade that way. I will try this once I am back home from work.

Maybe if you dont do a factory reset before installing the rom (rom does a reset before anyways). So if Talk is setup in the first place its required (I'm guessing), but so far without it works fine. Added screenshot above of market with paypal on screen.
Also tiggggr is right, the messaging apps where replaced with a stock MMS app.

If your talking about things like the Android 2.2.1 - 3.4.2-107 TMobile US modified bootloader. No idea, this flashing method I dicuss does not use/make a modified bootloader. Its just removing the Froyo bootloader and system partitions from the sbf.

Ya I have a notion that Stagefright being enabled for player streaming might be the cause. I'm looking into it.

Yup Stagefright being enabled for the youtube player was causing the issue. Flash the new version and should be all set.

I found pays 3.3 to be laggy when trying to close apps and the network connection quite slow and jumping between 3G and H a lot. I think the network issue is causing the lag.
coming from pays 3.3 on 3.4.2_145-003. I thought I'd wipe and factory reset before installing Lawnchair.zip
This left me with a clean ROM but with no home app and having wiped in clockwork recovery meant no debug for an ADB push. I didn't check for ADB connection but I found that voice commands would run and that allowed the selection of clockwork, so no need to reflash sbf.
Just a note if anyone sees this.
ROM has booted now and looks good, people shouldn't complain about what's missing, nothing's missing if you have ever used Titanium or Appmonster.

Ya the reason for re-flashing the sbf is because other rom's (and mine) do remove apps from the system folder. Something which a factory reset wont fix.
However, because my rom does include all stock system apps; yes this should work but like you said if your missing a Launcher in your system folder it will make it complicated.
Otherwise, glad to here its up and running.

thank you very much for the work. the downgrade method you just included are new to me. As long as i´m working on DefyFroyoSense Beta01 and cant fix the camera flash problem, i think your way to flash Froyo and keep downgradability will fix this issue. BTW you optimized rom is great for those who wanna have a personalized system running. Thanks again and keep it coming.

Ugh had it turned off, go for it now heh.

I really liked the rom, although what i did experience was a some random lagging occurring.. after switching on the screen the device seemed to hang completely then just as i was about to pull the battery it began working again. i hadnt installed any apps and i had followed all steps exactly.
I had to reflash an alternative rom in the end because of the freezing...
I am looking forward to trying new builds - cant think of any features needed really, it would just be nice to know if others had similar issue to me and if there was a fix for it.

It's not working when I install! I'm receiving force closes, sitting at bootloops, etc.
Make sure you're installing the ROM correctly. Remember that kernels, MODs, radios, and carriers can mess with your phone's performance and workability.
I'm not on AT&T and this ROM is completely broken!
This ROM is not necessarily designed for international compatibility. Please wait for future updates or attempt an install with a proper international kernel.
Why is my device running/booting slowly?
Your first boot will take an unimaginably long time. After that, your device will continue to run slowly until the application cache is built up. Don't worry, the speed will increase as you use the ROM!
Why is my battery life bad?
Your battery life is often killed when flashing ROMs in CWM. For the best battery life, you must drain your device’s battery until it turns off. Plug the device into the AC adapter and let it charge until the image says 100% charged. Then turn it on and use the volume buttons to boot into CWM. Click Wipe Battery Stats under the advanced menu. Then you should charge to 100% and install the ROM. Battery life should be comparable to (if not better than) every other ROM.
Where's my bloatware?
Alien deletes unnecessary bloatware that can be replaced by better applications in the Android Market. If you'd like the bloatware back, you can download the "bloatware.zip" from here.
Why isn't there a battery mod?
You can cook your own battery mod using the UOT kitchen. If you'd like the one I use, you can grab it here.

No change to frameworks, so the PDroid links in first post and any battery mods you've already cooked will still work fine.
Alien #5 (full wipe recommended if you use NFC)
No more Carrier IQ! It is still technically embedded in framework, but it is completely disabled. This allows MMS to work fine! After the first boot, you should wait about 10 minutes and then reboot. You can then verify there is no iqd process or Agent running. See known issues below if it somehow re-enables.
All system APKs have been re-packed. This solves a problem that occurred with Alien #4 and the "Android System" using more battery than intended. For the nerds, it was constantly running a garbage collection process for ~1 hour after a reboot.
Updated to use my stock kernel. This allows you to use BLN by simply installing the app from the Market. If you have no desire to use BLN, that's fine - no extra battery, etc is used by default.
Bluetooth fixes for HID devices (may fix other issues too).
NFC APK was resigned. This allows you to install the Google Wallet attachment in the first post. Unfortunately, our phone does not have a SecureElement so its unusable. But I have made this change in case some people have SIM cards with SecureElements in them (this is how ISIS will work).
Other minor changes and tweaks based on feedback in this thread.
Known issues:
Flash player seems finicky when installing the ROM. Uninstalling and re-installing through the Market seems to fix it.
Changing the Wi-Fi sleep policy increases battery drain. This is common across many phones and ROMs.
If choosing power off from the Power menu just reboots the phone, you have the first version of Alien #4. Apply the update zip from here in CWM or update to Alien #5+.
If Carrier IQ is re-enabled, simply reboot the phone which will trigger the NoCIQ script again. Wait roughly 5 minutes and reboot once more and Carrier IQ should be gone again. I've never personally seen Carrier IQ be re-enabled, but it is theoretically possible for AT&T to do.
If you are having FC bombardment issues after a reboot and you have ever installed Alien #3, then you will need to use stock recovery (3e) to factory reset, reinstall CWM and finally flash Alien #4 or newer. Wiping data in CWM, factory reset in Settings -> Privacy, etc will NOT work!

I think so. I was able to reproduce them on build 3. They occur because /data was read-only due to filesystem errors. I've changed the install script in an attempt to fix the problem. You may have to wipe data once using stock recovery if you are currently experiencing the problem, but I'm hopeful it won't recur anymore after that.

Is this rom based on ATT? Does it have Carrier IQ?

just to make sure that i understand, when i flash the rom, after the first initial boot, i would have to wipe data using stock recovery by settings->privacy->factory reset. ?

Thanks, I'm looking into this. I noticed it on my phone, but I have a custom kernel (soon to be published as well) and thought maybe it was my kernel. Are you using the kernel that came with the ROM (which is stock but a custom ramdisk)?

No, wipe data through stock recovery (flashed via Odin). If you aren't having the FC issue, then you don't need to worry.

I'm getting the FC bombardment on restarting the device for the first time after initial successful boot.
prior to #4 installation while running #3, I wiped data from OS privacy menu, then flashed #4 from CWM. FC bombardment on restarting the device for the first time after repeat #4 installation.
Going to stock recovery now to wipe data, then I'll try again! I wasn't sure if you expected the same FC problems or not on this version, so I thought I'd report!
*update*: in stock recovery factory reset.
Alien #4 booted w/o issue, restarted twice. Headed back to Odin for some more CWM.

1. If you have CWM installed: format all partitions. If you don't have CWM installed do a Hard Reset (*2767*3855#) Note: A hard reset also wipes your sdcard, make sure you got it backed up
Note: A format or hard reset is not always needed, you can always try to keep your data folder and flash broodROM RC5, wiping dalvik cache is still needed!
2. Put your phone in download mode (when off hold: vol -, home, power)
3. Start Odin, Choose AriesVE.ops file, check "One Package", choose: "broodROMRC5.tar.md5" > Click Start
4. Wait till the process is complete, now your phone will reboot and show you recovery mode, now choose reboot system now by pressing the menu button
5. Set animations to a few. (settings > display > animations) For the shutdown-style old TV animation and start enjoying your new rom

Q: I kinda like Apple, and I don't want an android pissing on an apple as bootlogo
A: Well.. this is only a custom boot logo, you can easily change it by reflashing the SkyHigh v1.4 Kernel
Q: I want to install a system accelerator like Thunderbolt or Adrenaline shot
A: Don't do that! The SkyHigh v1.4 kernel already includes an integrated Thunderbolt, adding more tweaks would simply bootloop your phone
Q: I saw the screenstate_scaling script in /system/etc/init.d, what's up with that?
A: screenstate_scaling is an addition to Thunderbolt, in this script the default awake & sleep governors are set, this script can function as an alternative to CPU Master. You will notice that CPU Master will give you a warning each time you boot your phone since the screenstate_scaling script will interfere with it.
Q: I noticed that you have set the sleep governor to ondemand, why is that?
A: I did that because I've experienced some alarm clock fails on 100Mhz, Of course you can try it out yourself, it might work just fine
Q: I want a better battery life for your rom! How can I achieve that?
A: You can perform the following steps to gain a better battery life: first thing is to lower the CPU Frequency, the default is 1.8GHz, but you can set it to 1.4Ghz (or so) with Antutu CPU Master. The second thing is that you can set the sleep governor to "powersafe" (can be found in screenstate_scaling script) this sets the phone in an even lower state and safes you battery (see the question above for the possible risks)
Q: I want to change my kernel, how do i do that?
A: I recommend you to not change your kernel since Skyhigh gives the best performance for broodROM RC4. Although you can download an alternative kernel and place it on your /sdcard, then reboot in recovery using the extended power menu and choose install zip from sdcard > install zip from internal sdcard > choose the zip file > install > reboot.
Q: My browser FC's all the time, how do I fix this?
A: Some people experience browser FC's, you can easily solve this by installing the broodROM_RC4_InetFixes.zip in recovery mode, don't forget to mount /system to be sure it installs correctly.
Q: My WiFi has constant drops, how do I solve this problem?
A: The first thing that you need to investigate is your "DHCP Lease Time" you can find this option in your router, if it's set to a low number please change it (mine is 604800). If this doesn't solve the problem you can try installing the KQ1 Modem using Odin (select AriesVE.ops from broodrom rc4 and choose the .md5 file as "Phone" package) and install the KQ1 Wifi Binaries using Recovery mode (also don't forget to mount /system) If you still encounter WiFi problems you will have to wait until the ICS Value pack release so i can permantely fix it.
Q: I saw the "Module Loader" app. what is this? and what can it do for me?
A: The module loader app is an app that allows you to run additional modules for your i9001. You can load several modules, I added the tun.ko module which is OpenVPN, the cifs.ko module which is Samba Shares Support (smb://) and the PPP Modules. If you are sure you will never use any of those you can delete the app by deleting "moduleloader.apk" file in /system/app
Q: I noticed that there are some bugs regarding the ICS Theme, some apps have gingerbread looks
A: You can solve this problem by downloading the newest ICS Theme and extract "framework-res.apk" and "twframework-res.apk" from the archive, then copy them from your sdcard to /system/framework and overwrite the current files, set the permissions to RW-R-R and reboot.
Q: I want to change the bootanimation, how can I do that?
A: I've chosen to keep the sanim.zip layout instead of bootanimation.zip which is default for SkyHigh v1.4. So you can place your bootanimation (named sanim.zip) in /system/media, set permissions to RW-R-R and reboot
Q: Is your Configurator BETA 4 compatible with broodROM RC4?
A: Yes and no, you cannot flash themes or mods, but you can use things such as changing boot animation, changing dns, updating hosts and so on (all things that include theme files are not compatible with broodROM RC4)
Q: I cannot buy apps from the store. how can i solve this?
A: Wipe the play store cache by going to settings > Applications > Manage apps > All > Play store > clear cache (thanks to nail16)
If this doesn't work, download an older version of the market here and delete /system/app/Google_Play_3.5.1.5.apk then place the market apk in /system/app and reboot (set permissions to RW-R-R) The market will now automatically update to the latest version.
Q: I cannot change the background of my lockscreen, why is that? I want to change it!
A: The lockscreen from KQ7 is a beta and does not support custom wallpapers yet. Although you can change the lockscreen by looking in the framework-res.apk file with Winrar, look for "framework-res.apk\res\drawable-hdpi" then you will find the "zzzzzzzz_default_lockscreenw.jpg" file at the bottom, You can replace that file by dragging your custom 480x800 lockscreen in there. set the compression level to "store" and put the framework-res.apk file on your /sdcard, copy it to /system/framework and overwrite the file. Don't forget to set the permissions to RW-R-R
(this also seems to work on the default way of changing the lockscreen background )
Q: I get random reboots, help?
A: Because all i9001 devices are not actually exactly the same, some devices could cause errors when using a support OC/UV kernels, you can flash the SkyHigh v1.3 kernel or Feacore 1.4 NonOC to prevent this problem.
Q: I have sdcard fails, how can I solve this?
A: the developer of the SkyHigh kernel is currently working on a fix, you can read about it here

How to set up A2SD
Requirements: 512MB EXT4 Partition ( 1024MB Recommended )
Do you have an EXT3 partition? download the fix from the attachments and flash it before you do this! Else it will not work!
1. Do all the steps from the installation, if you've done all that, please don't install apps.
2. open app scroller, and open terminal emulator
3. type su and hit enter ( accept if Superuser prompts up )
4. Click the menu button on your device, and click show keyboard.
5. type a2sd install and hit enter
6. type y , type n , type y ( When it asks for it )
7. Auto reboot!
8. At the first boot it will be really slow ; can take up to 15 minutes.
9. After that, don't be afraid, all the apps have to load 1/2 minutes. ( that's why they don't show up in the app drawer.)
10. Done!

HBOOT
This is a custom HBOOT made for WindowsPhoneMod ​
for Version: 1.7.5/2.9.7
Q. What does a HBOOT do?
A. A phone has 3 partitions. A system partition, cache partition, and a Data partition. On the system partition are all the system files installed. on the cache partition, well, that speaks for itself. Temorary files will be placed here. On the data partition, all the apps will be installed. The stock HBOOT you'll get with the Desire, has 250MB on system, 40MB on cache, and 147MB on Data. Since this ROM only uses 160MB on system, and 5MB on cache, This is a huge waste of space. So i created a HBOOT with a 165MB system partition, 5MB cache, and 267MB on Data. The 267MB will be your internal memory for apps.
Q. How do i use/flash this?
A. There are 2 ways. i only will describe the simple way, for other ways look here. Download the PB99IMG_WindowsPhoneModv2 from the attachments. Rename it to PB99IMG. Place it on the root (First folder) of your SD card. Then load into the bootloader, ( hold Volume down, menu, power ) and it should ask you to update, press volume up to accept. Most of the time nothing gets touched, but sometimes ROM are gone weird. Please reflash WindowsPhoneMod after changing HBOOT.

Anyway, if you don't have gapps, i attacht a file, that you can run in your recovery to install the new version of the launcher.

Where are the GApps? I have installed V0.3c..they are not included. Are latest GApps compatible with GB? And, i dont know why there are 2 lockscreens?

I found the lock screen double-up a bit annoying too.. until I disabled "WP7 Lock Lite" application, once you've done that it's all good.

There are two lockscreens. One in WP7 lock lite and in the launcher. You should disable the one in the launcher. Will fix it in 0.4!

I had the lockscreen problem too, deleted the lockscreen.apk in system/app. You can just download
The flashable ZIP from the attachments and flash it through your recovery.
What happens if i flash this zip?

By God's grace I was able to use mickey387's great tbltexx work, and completely adapt it to our tbltetmo after extracting all of the needed firmware from our 6.0.1 stock roms! No data zips are required here! It is all built in!

-Which I personally tested Arm 7.0 Nano.
No data fix zip is required for T-Mobile phones! This ROM is actually built for the T-Mobile variants (tbltetmo, tbltecan)!
Be sure to follow these installation steps very carefully, as they may be different then what you are used to.
Installation instructions:
-Put your phone on the 6.0.1 Bootloader and Modem
-Download ROM and gapps, and put them on your phone or external storage.
-Reboot into recovery mode - TWRP (I personally installed this using Mickey's 3.0.0-0).
-Backup what you had. (Just to be safe.)
-Wipe. (I personally wipe everything prior to flashing new roms, but at least do the basic wipe.)
-Install Rom.
-Install Gapps. - Optional
-Reboot to system and enjoy!
I do not recommend installing superSU on this ROM! SU permission is already built in, and superSU has been causing problems with the rom. Please read the thread for further details.

- Fingerprint sensor is really flaky. I got it to work once, but only once. Most times it will not register.
- I have not found any big errors, fault crashes, or problems yet. Please let me know if you find an issue!
This AOKP N ROM was built for the tbltetmo, the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. I have not tried this on any other device, but you are welcome to try it AT YOUR OWN RISK. You will need to edit the META-INF updater script to accomplish this.

If the screen looks red-ish, check the settings->display->live display options, you may want to turn them off, it is a low light sensitive display option.
T-Mobile users with device model = unknown:
If you are using a N915T (like myself), the fix is very easy!
-Open /system/build.prop in any text editor
-Anywhere in the file, add this line:

Save and exit, then reboot your phone. You can check "about phone" under settings, you should see yourself as SM-N915T, and apps like XDA should report you as Samsung Galaxy Note Edge.

That is a great question.
Most AT&T phones have a locked boot loader, do they not? If you have an unlocked boot loader than it is possible to try, and no damage should arise. But if you have a locked boot loader it will fail to flash.
If you get it to flash, I do not know if it will work or not.
This ROM is flashed through TWRP, there is no modem.bin file in it, it doesn't over write the modem file.

So I it won't allow me to change it is there a fix for this I try updating Super SU Binary on Recovery and still doesn't work please fix and am runny 6.0.1 Boot and Modem N915T how cant I fix this for some reason it says not root detected please fix

You should not install super su on this rom. It has a built in root and controller.

Loaded up and so far is running smooth with the exception of some weirdness around the back and recent apps hw buttons. They seem to be acting properly but are not lighting up. I went into ROM control and tried to adjust. Interestingly when I have the screen open for adjusting time on they do light up, but then go black again after closing the adjustment box. There is also no vibration when hitting those 2 buttons. Im not getting anything useful in the logs that I can see. I tried reflashing but no change in behavior. Any suggestions? Am I the only one seeing this?
I'll post this in the International thread too in case it is effecting other models.

By the way, this rom supports substratum in legacy mode.
I tested the inversion ui theme successfully.

You should not install SuperSU, because the rom already has root permutation built in.

According to the official v4a thread, others cannot get it to work on nougat with SuperSU. PLEASE DIRECT ALL V4A QUESTIONS TO THE OFFICIAL V4A THREAD.
2. Thanks for pointing that out. I see that the built in file manager does not let you look at the SD card. I use the amaze file manager, you can use another manager, until I can fix it.
3. I do not understand the problem. The kernel I made is already selinux permissive. Do you want to set it to enforce instead?

Great feedback. I haven't noticed that problem myself, but I reboot frequently. Can you do me a huge favor? When the back button stops working, can you immediately try it 5 times, then pull a log cat and send it to me? Thanks, then I can see the problem.
