I just got a Tech Armor Edge-to-edge ballistic glass screen protector and I love the way it looks but as others have posted with similar protectors covering the whole glass, the proximity sensor is always triggered. This messes up calls a lot and if I don't find a fix I am afraid I would have to remove the protector. Anybody know of a fix to this without having to remove the protector? Thanks.
I have the same one and do not have this issue if you press the home button it should light up the screen.

Are you saying you have the same protector covering the sensor but clear and don't have the issue?
The problem with the home button is that it only turns on the screen but cannot turn it off (to prevent ear dialing while in a call). However, I have turned off the power button for ending calls so I can use it to turn the screen on and off during calls which is a viable workaround for me. From the motions and gestures Direct dial and Palm screen capture are also affected (the other two still work), but I don't use the first one and can capture the screen with power+home. I like this protector a lot so at this point I'd rather use the workarounds than return it but it still bugs me that the sensor is always triggered.
I can see that the sensor is still working when I go into the sensor test menu (*#0*#) but it looks like it needs to be recalibrated - it has Offset: 0, High THD: 2000, Low THD: 1400, but my lowest reading is around 2300. When I hold my finger about 1/2 inch above the sensor I get 6-10k reading and touching the sensor give ~16k. I see that some people have been able to recalibrate the sensor on other Galaxy phones but I am not going to root just to try that. Can anybody post their sensor readings without a protector on the screen. Thanks.
Edit: For the record, I managed to fix this. Peeled the protector off, put back the original protective film to prevent dust from sticking to it and used a small razor blade to scratch off some of the white paint between and around the sensors (light and proximity). There is white paint directly applied to the glass but also a layer of white film - noticed that the paint goes just a bit further inside. The sensor turned out to be very sensitive to anything covering even a tiny bit from the edges. It turned out that this very little enlargement of the sensor opening did the job - it is now working fine. The protector still looks nice - no visible traces that it has been removed and reinstalled.

I guess you could cut a hole but it's bit of a PITA.

They're a little on the small side but not too bad, I had mine fitted perfectly and it covers only the actual live area of the screen width wise, and is a little short of the top and bottom of the glass height wise, maybe 2 or 3mm.
I just did a little testing of the proximity sensor with my hand, without the protector on, and it seems that the proximity sensor only turns the screen off when the phone is vertical not when laying flat. Might test some more with the protector. I had to rip it off to end a call earlier!
Just done a bit more testing and indeed, hold the phone vertical while on a call and put the screen protector on, screen turns off, take it away, screen turns on. When the phone is flat the proximity sensor does nothing so if you put the phone flat while in a call you can access the keypad etc.

I spoke to an SGP UK agent on Tuesday. He said SGP are revising their design to allow for this. Said should have the new version sometime next week.
I have some cheap screen protectors that used to cover my SGS2 proximity sensors and had no problems, guess I'll report back when I get my phone ):

If any protectors do cover it, a hole puncher should take care of it pretty easily. It may not result in the prettiest results, but it will get the job done until all of the manufacturers revise their designs to not cover it.

Hi I have bought an LG G2 D802 from eBay for practically nothing. The only thing that was wrong with it is that the screen had been replaced by what I presume is a cheap Chinese copy and after the replacement the screen would seem to turn off randomly (particularly during calls) and could not easily be turned back on again. Otherwise the phone works fine. The only thing that doesn't work is the proximity sensor. However I presume that this is a result of the new screen. Having read around on several forums, it seems that the proximity sensor is extremely sensitive to things like screen protectors, which can obstruct, or limit or prevent the functionality of the proximity sensor entirely. I therefore concluded that the likely issue was because the proximity sensor is likely to only respond to light over a given number of polarities (dark infra-red, placed against face, something similar I presume, in daylight or bright light, nearer the blue end of the spectrum etc). This would simplify how the proximity sensor should work under a number of given scenarios.
In the end the workaround was simple. I simply opened the phone and disconnected the proximity sensor and placed a small piece of insulating tape over the sensors connectors so it couldn't inadvertently reconnected when I closed the phone. The phone is now 100% fully functional, minus the proximity sensor of course. It now just functions like any other normal smartphone. I am naturally more than pleased with this outcome, given what I paid for the phone, which itself is in otherwise mint condition.
However the question I have is that the reason the proximity sensor was included was to prevent accidental button presses when making or receiving a call, when for example the phone is pressed against one's face. However it strikes me that exactly the same functionality should be possible in software? What I am looking for then is an app that will either lock the screen (or turn it off) to prevent accidental button presses in this way while a call is in progress and that will disable itself as soon as a call is ended. I of course need to be able to easily disable it, either from the lock screen, or via the power button, so that for example when I dial an automated dialling service and they want me to press buttons to navigate their menu I can still do this.
There seems to be a few apps around that can do this, but my question is, which is the best? Which is likely to cause the fewest problems for what I want?
I have ordered a new proximity sensor from China in case the proximity sensor itself might be at fault, but really having read that this can cause several problems and is rather more 'gimmicky' than practical, I think a software solution would probably be better anyway.
it should be replace with same hardware sir to be able for your device able to control it.
So has anyone found a fix for this problem aside from replacing the sensor itself? Maybe a build.prop or by using terminal. My phone screen wont stay on because it detects its in my pocket all the time posted screens below of useful info.

Guys (and girls)!, I have found the solution, it took me like 6 hours to figure this out.
I have LS980 (LG G2 ofcourse).
I replaced the screen, and I actually refurbished the screen with LOCA glue myself, it is perfect, but apparently there's an issue with the proximity sensor, due to the specific shade they use to cover the inside of the glass at the location of the proximity sensor.
After replacing the screen, the Knock ON was not working, but KNOCK OFF was working fine.
In the Sensor Box i saw that i was getting half of the light that i was supposed to (on another LS980 i was getting about 800, while on the "faulty" one i was getting 400 light.)
And also the proximity sensor was dead, it showed 0.0 and a fallen plant.
I tried putting some tape, and colored it with a permanent market between the proximity sensor and the glass, and the KNOCK ON began to work, but during calls, the screen would not shut off.
I figured, there must be some SYNC between the light the screen is getting, and the proximity sensor, so i scraped off the paint that was on the glass where the proximity sensor is, so there will be much light coming in, and IT WORKED!!
SOLUTION:
Scrape off the dark paint on the glass (inside) at the location of the proximity sensor. do it gently.
clean it with alcohol so there will be no remains of paint.
don't be shy to press the Thanks button if this worked

Before you start to scrach the touch, try this.
On LG D-802 , the ruber thing on the proximity sensor was cousing me promblems. CUT the ruber only the part atached on the light sensor and proximity and turn it around. The big hole that was once on the light sensor(Ruber) comes on the proximity...
And that fixed my proximity. Now the light sensor is covered with the small hole on the ruber and the small amount of light is passing try that hole, try spreading it with heated something.

I think I am having the same problems with a G2. The digitizer on my girlfriend's phone broke so I replaced it with a digitizer/screen combo. No we can only turn the screen on (power button or knock) when there is a lot of light in the room. If it is dark, the screen will turn on for a second and then turn off. The screen doesn't go dark during a call either.
This problem didn't start until I installed the new screen. I scraped half the paint off but it didn't seem to make a different. I also don't have the screen completely sealed as I didn't have tape pre-cut for the shape of the phone. I wouldn't think that makes a difference but who knows.

I got my Nexus 5 in white back in August and it's an amazing phone but I recently came across something that confused me.
As I tried to apply a tempered glass screen protector I noticed I couldn't get it to apply properly on the bottom, right under the screen. After a closer look I found out that the glass isn't even there. It's curved inwards which in turn makes it impossible to apply a glass screen protector without air.
Now the device is functioning fine but I'm not sure if this will be covered by warranty. It seems like a defect since I can't think of any physical event causing that. I've never let it fall down and it's still in perfect condition otherwise.
If I could get some advise on what I can do here or if anyone's got similar experience I'd love to hear about it.
Same here just below led notification it's nothing and came like this from factory I have my n5 since last week seen this the 2nd day but you can see it just when you move the phone in light it does not bother me I don't use any screen protector
You need to gently clamp in together on that spot, using a thin cloth to avoid scratches. Leave it for an hour and should stay gone.

Yes it is not quite flat. As above, clamp it for 30 minutes or so. I used some cloth wrapped around the phone and a bulldog clip.
This is a commong thing? That doesn't sound good, I kinda hope it's covered by warranty, I'll contact the vendor to see if they can replace it.
They're all the same. Just a design flaw.
Replace it and you'll most likely see the next one is no different.

Every one of them is like this. It may even be intentional rather than a flaw. We don't know. Its just the way the N5 is.
I think I just ran into my first real problem with the phone. I got a glass screen protector on Amazon, and it absolutely refuses to recognize my fingerprint with the glass on it. The error just keeps telling me to press harder. I never had any issue before without one on.
Took the screen protector off, and now it's back to normal.
I have each thumb trained twice, so recognition shouldn't be a problem at all. I think it's just too thick and it isn't sensing enough pressure to register the fingerprint.
Anyone find a good screen protector that works with fingerprint? I may have to go with a plastic one that won't be as thick as glass.

This is disappointing. When I first looked into this, I found someone claiming to have tested the Oneplus 6T fingerprint sensor with 3 screen protectors on top of each other. I concluded it was not an issue. But now I am seeing plently or articles suggesting that it depends. E.g. "Vivo did mention that only screen protectors of a certain thickness will work with the sensor". I wonder if Nokia will offer or recommend a screen protector.
Also, I don't know if Nokia are using the same sensor as Oneplus, but this is interesting: "[when registering] make sure your environment is not too bright. If possible, you should register a fingerprint in a completely dark environment."
Edit, also spotted this: "We also recommend re-registering your fingerprint every time you add or remove a screen protector."
So as an update, I applied the second screen protector that came in the 2-pack. Removed all of my fingerprints that were stored, and tried to setup new prints.
Took me about 200 tries to get my right thumb registered (not exaggerating), but I couldn't get it to actually read when trying to activate it.
Couldn't get my left thumb to register at all. Just kept saying to press harder. I was pressing so hard I thought I'd break the screen if I pushed harder.
Tried in bright light, as well as a completely dark room. Didn't change the ability for it to register at all.
So overall for this phone, I'm going to say glass screen protectors won't reliably work with the fingerprint scanner. I've ordered a plastic screen protector. Going to try that out, as I'm pretty sure it will work.
I imagine the thickness of glass is the culprit here, due to how the fingerprint sensor works even without a screen protector applied. It seems more difficult to activate than other in-display readers (I have 3 others with in-display readers and they're all incredibly easy to use).
Fingerprint issues aside, I normally go for glass screen protectors because the plastic ones tend to cause more drag when using the phone.
I have generally seen two models. One which is clear and another which has a black border, both with cutouts for sensors, cameras and speakers.

I got the Mr.Shield 9h glass and it works fine. The issue with the fingerprint is a software issue. The warning to press harder is not correct. I've verified that the reader will read with normal to light pressure. Hopefully they will release an update that fixes it within the next couple months.

I just got the screen protector with the black borders, and it doesn't cover any part of the screen. I think it looks good. But I was a bit sloppy when I applied it and one of the corners has an air bubble which I can't get rid of.
But since I applied it, the fingerprint scanner is causing me problems. It has problems recognizing my prints

I ended up going for a clear one tempered glass protector. I have a couple of tiny bubbles which was just me rushing as I was excited.
The finger print sensor works fine as long as I get my finger in the correct place but that is a challenge. My thumb is more difficult but still possible. It hasn't been a massive burden though because I have been using face and trusted bluetooth device to good effect.

I have a Google Pixel 6a with a replacement screen. All fine so far except for the proximity sensor (screen will not turn off/on during phone calls). I opened the phone again and noticed that the proximity sensor is actually working! But as soon as the screen is above the proximity sensor, it stops working. It seems the sensor is not "seeing" through the screen. But all is looking good to me - exactly as in different screen replacement tutorial videos on youtube. The replacement screen looks 100% like the original one. The screen was replaced by a phone-repair-shop - so I think they know what they are doing. I contacted them when I noticed that the sensor does not work anymore. But the phone came back to me again with the same error.
Do you have any ideas how i get the sensor to "see through the display"?

As i know the proximity sensor area on the replacement screen is clean and free from any dust, fingerprints, or smudges. Use a soft cloth or microfiber cloth to gently clean the area around the sensor or Sometimes, a slight misalignment can cause the sensor to be obstructed. Try repositioning the screen carefully and see if it makes a difference.
