I was facing problems like lags and battery/memory leaks since i got my MOTO G (XT1032) updated to 5.0.2. Then i received 5.1 but no improvement. Unfortunately, my device not going to receive 5.1.1, then i decided to downgrade it to 4.4.4. But again, my brother updated it with OTA 5.0.2 and while installation it went all black. Just LED blink while charging or using key combinations but not getting bootloader/fastboot. It is completely dead. MOTO Care say we need to change motherboard but it's not an hardware issue. So please, if someone know what is the actual issue, kindly help me.

maybe because of bootloader..?
You flashed Bootloader repeatedly with different versions. OTA Updates also included Bootloader upgrade. You have hard-bricked your phone.
Motherboard does indeed need to be replaced, alternatively join all the other lost souls in this thread who have been waiting for almost a year for a fix:

1). What if I get it's "BOOT IC" (instead of whole motherboard) replaced for a new one ? Will it work?
2). And what does this mean "FAILED (blank-flash:sdl-transfer-image:sdl-hello:invalid HDLC frame)" ?

If no-one responds here, I suggest you ask your questions in the 'Hard-Brick' thread I linked to. Regarding, solution (1) - I've never heard it proposed before, but I'm no expert in this area.
Same problem((((
Moto G (XT1032/Falcon) - Unbrick
After a whole long disappointing year of trying hands on my Moto G to unbrick it, I found a thread to unbrick it and succesfully did it.
Here is the link to XDA thread which helped me recover my device : http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/help/how-to-unbrick-moto-g-falcon-t3394788
If any of the Moto G user wants to recover his/her dead Moto G, he/she must visit the link given above.
I hope it will also work for you guys.
GOOD LUCK!!!

Hi all, is it updated my Moto G Android Lollipop following the tutorial to pass the Moto G to Google Play Edition, and then wanted to go back to the original version 4.4.4 of my phone so doing I notice that after the message bootloader a line that distorts the image starting from the top to the bottom, the only way to solution I've found is blocking the phone and unlocking it, but still the problem persists appears.
Thank you very much for your attention and I hope to help.
maybe a bootloader problem...
I have the same exact error except i have the xt1032 non gpe variant. did the same thing as u did, flashed gpe 5.0.1 update and the problem first occurred when flashing twrp in 5.0.1, i tried a couple of versions of twrp but the problem kept happening, what makes me believe its a boot loader problem is that the version of the bootloader changed from 41.13 to 41.18 after the update. maybe they updated the bootloader with the 5.0.1 package, if we could flash the stock bootloader maybe that will help

if you flash from 5.0 Brazil to 4.4.4 GPE you will get that annoying line, to get rid of it just update to 5.0.1 from the phone and all will fixed.
Hi,
I have Moto G XT1033 Indian version, Few days ago I unlocked my device and installed Lollipop 5.0.1 using this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/guide-convert-brazilian-firmware-gpe-5-t2969472), So the device turned into XT1032 GPE with single sim functionality. It was working perfectly, Then I decided to return to the stock ROM, so downloaded the gpe 4.4.4 rom and installed using this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/guide-xt1033-downgrade-lollipop-5-0-to-t2969729), it was fine, Though there was an small issue at this time, when I start the device the display was getting flickered, But If I lock the phone for 5 secs and unlock, it goes, Else everything was ok. After that I downloaded the 4.4.2 with stock files for XT1033 and flashed my device using this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/xt1033-t2821556) which turned my device into XT1033 from XT1032 with 4.4.2.
Then I got the update of 4.4.4 in my device so downloaded it. When I clicked on install, it was saying the charge should be more that 25%, I had 23% that time. I put the device in charging, When it came in 30% to 35%, again clicked on install update while it was in charging, It started installing the updates, Everything fine till then, I did not follow the device for few mins , After that I saw the there was no light in the screen in the device, I thought it might updated and shut down.
Now the problem is I can not turn my device on. My attempts..
1) Hold power key for a long time
2) Volume key down+power key for 2 mins,3mins, at least to enter into bootloader mode.
3) Putting on charge for more than a hour.
Nothing worked for me. It seems to me totally dead. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!!!
It won't turn anymore... Corrupted motoboot partition. It corrupted when you tried to update via OTA... It is the only way that can happens by the way.
Now you'll need to wait the official release and the know famous MBM CI 5 to get your device online again.
Sorry =/
Can I use 4.4.4: MBM-CI_4.4.4 ?

Did you mean, When I tried to update the system to 4.4.4 given by the OTA, it crashed? Can I use this one (4.4.4: MBM-CI_4.4.4)?
Regards.
Estimated release date of MBM CI 5 ?
Can anybody please tell me what is the estimated release date of MBM CI 5 ? Should I visit the Motorola Service Centre ? Though the it will not cover the warranty any more. I can not see my phone as a dead brick any more. Any help please! Thanks in advance.

There isn't a definitive date set for the release of the specific files. I'm sure the devs will grab it the moment it's available and work their magic.
Be patient and check the forum daily/weekly. Alternatively you can take it to motorola and they may be able to fix it for a price, or just get a cheap and cheerful phone while you wait (I bought a cheap nokia)
But there are a lot of moto g users here also waiting for the devs to help us out - I miss my moto g
Hello, has anybody that owns a Moto G XT1028 (U.S Verizon) gotten the Android Lollipop update yet? I'm in need to know becuase i want to purchase a Moto G for Dev purposes but i would like it to be running Android Lollipop after purchase and checking for system updates. Btw im purchasing it 06/22/15. Please post screenshots if you have them.
If you do own one that has Lollipop could you please make a quick review, including the following topics.
- Battery life
- Preformance
- Any bugs
I would greatly appreciate it.
I was wondering the same thing ... I own a Moto G XT1028 (Verizon) but im still on Android 4.4.4 KitKat. I constiently check for updates almost daily. If i don't recieve the Android Lollipop update within the next 14 days, I'm: rooting, unlocking the botloader, installing a custom recovery and putting Cm12 on it. I originally didn't want to do that for warranty and safety reasons but i feel the need to have Lollipop. The update is way over due ...
There is no Lollipop firmware for the XT1028.
Sent from my XT1031
Motorola states "This device will be upgraded to the Android 5 Lollipop release of Android, pending partner support." here: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/software-upgrade-news/g_id/1949

Motorola has been saying that since Lollipop came out in November of last year. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it if I were you.

I rooted my xt1028 over a year ago after paying a "chinese middleman" $45 for a bootloader unlock code. Since then I have installed soooooooooo many roms, first Kitkat and then Lollipop. I must say that imo stock 4.4.4 Kitkat is better than anything else you can install on the xt1028. Every rom out there has one bug or another and even though you can do more customization with non-stock roms, it seems to be at the expense of better performance and battery life with stock. As for lollipop, I ran a lot of lollipop roms and I do not like it. Too many kiddie colors and childish building block icons. Google acts as if they are making their operating system for a bunch of kindergartners.
Oh, and other than paying someone for an unlock code, you can forget rooting the xt1028 or unlocking its' bootloader because Verizon has the phone on total lockdown.
Verizon can have my x1028 junk ass phone and I am going to get something else and straightalk..
still holding out hope that Verizon will push out an update. they just updated the first gen Moto X to Lollipop, so perhaps the Moto G is next in line...
How you unlock the bootloader in the xt1028,I can't unlocked, funking verizon

Unfortunately, my wife is in a quite sticky situation. Verizon locked the device so it can't be activated, but that's not really the problem... We can't figure out how to bypass the Setup Guide (all the old ways are now patched). Can't use it until that's figured out.

I confirm my XT1028, also adopted the Android 5.1
Just got mine. Maybe the root community can crack this one. Maybe a better chance on rooting this version.
The same here

I hope the wonderful Android community does what I think it'll do and figure out a bypass to the new Lollipop Setup Wizard.

Hoping for a solution as well, as I only use the device on WiFi.
I suppose I'll hold off on installing the update, for now.
can anyone with a bootloader unlocked XT1028 pull the 5.1 partitions and post them? or has anyone seen the stock partitions for 5.1 anywhere?
as for those stuck at the setup guide... was data wiped causing you to have to set the device up? or does it force the setup guide either way?
hopefully someone can post the images so I can get my device out of fastboot mode and poke around

There's someone reporting on Reddit that he got past it by deleting the cache repeatedly in recovery mode. I might go ahead and update, just for the heck of it.
http://www.reddit.com/r/motog/comme..._update_notification_on_xt1028verizon/cx03pe5
UPDATE: I updated, and everything works great! I didn't have to set up the device, it just carried over everything with the new look. I have no idea why anyone would be stuck at the activation screen, when I didn't even have to set it up again...weird

The reason I'm stuck at Setup is because after the update we factory reset (it updated just fine, just wanted a 'fresh' start)

Thank you! Will test NOW. Well if I can ever get the recovery menu to show up.
Hi guys, I'm kinda lost by now.
I tried to root my Moto G 1st Gen today, but whenever it was supposed to reboot again after to rooting process, I got the "dead" android with the no command warning. So I tried to some alternatives with the only result that my phone is now stuck in a bootloop. Luckily I can still access the bootloader menu, but when I try flash back to the firmware, I get the hab "check failed for boot" and recovery message, with the result that it doesn't work and I'm still in the same situation. I guess I have the wrong firmware but I can't seem to find the correct 1st gen xt1034 firmware for a german phone.
So yeah, if you could help me, that would be reaaaaally great, and if you need some additional information, I'll try my best to find it out.
Cheers
Hi,
you are sure you have an xt1034 german phone? From what I read, the xt1034 is special to America, so you should find your answer here. Good luck on reviving your phone!
Okay, so I recently bought a used Moto G LTE, seller said it would be on Lollipop 5.1. When I received it, it had been rolled back to 4.4.4. Hence the screen ripple at every boot up (which persists until the phone is locked and then unlocked) that almost gave me a heart attack the first time. A little googling later I learn this happens because while you can downgrade android the upgraded version's bootloader remains. So last night I finally got around to rooting since I just can't go from a rooted phone to living with a non rooted one, feels like my phone has a noose around it. Anyway I wanted to know if it's safe to flash CM on my phone now or should I reupgrade to 5.1 first? And if I should is there a way to get it to update OTA again? If not any suggestions where to find the firmware? I just want to feel free to flash roms without bricking my phone. Here is a screenshot of my About Phone, in case someone needs it to help, imgur.com /v8iLOU7

Hi.
In my xt1040, i can flash CM 12 lollipop or a stock rom based from kitkat 4.4.4 without problems (I have a updated bootloader), to get OTA updates again, its necessary flash the stock rom (KK or LP), without root, PURE stock (with all "bloatware").
Now im using a optimized rom from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/4g-development/rom-stock-motorola-4g-lollipop-rom-t3142816
No bugs, amazing battery life, and a pure stock, no "bloatware", great ram management.
Sorry for bad english.
