[Completed] I purchased a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phone but use it with Metro PCS. - XDA Assist

For some unknown reason the phone will not open text or MMS messages. I thought since Metro PCS uses T-Mobile's network that there would be no issues. Is there a way to fix this?

[Completed] [Q] Raw deal on a cellphone

I was looking for Samsung Galaxy S3 to use on Straight Talk. It was for the nice lady who works the phones out my place of employment.
I found a great deal on craigslist, US Cellular Samsung Galaxy S3 (SCH-530R) I check the ESN, its not stolen.
I use the Straight Talk BYOP Finder tool to check compatibility. It tells me as what I learn later to be a "generic CDMA message" that it spits out for every CDMA ESN saying it will work with a network access code
The phone is not compatible they say, they don't care their tool didn't even get me some McDonalds before it ****ed me.
What can I do with this phone? US Cellular is more expensive than most plans around here at least and there is no US Cellular store within 100 miles.
Thank you for any time you spend here, you're all given a limited amount of time on this earth and you're spending some of it helping a stranger with a phone problem. Thank you. Happy Newyears!
Hi,
I can't find anything relevant on XDA for your issue that has a solution. If your phone supports the radio bands on straight talk, it should be possible. Not sure if you need to sim unlock the device also.
Best to ask for help in this dedicated help thread in your device section,

[Completed] [Q] Activate VZW Galaxy Nexus and Sprint GS3 on CDMA in India?

Hi there! I'm moving back to India tomorrow after a few years in the US and I'm interested in getting my off-contract Verizon Galaxy Nexus and Sprint Galaxy S3 working in Delhi/NCR. I realize neither will work on a GSM network as the VZW is the I515.9 baseband and the Sprint one lacks a SIM slot, but can I get them running on a local CDMA carrier like MTS or *shudder* Reliance?
I've done some digging online and in here, but I can't seem to find anything about getting either device working on a CDMA network in India other than warnings that some carriers may not activate them if they aren't on their own "approved devices list". Any help with where I should post is greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much for your help and happy new year!
Hi,
Since you are asking about multiple devices, I suggest you try asking here first,
> Android Development and Hacking > Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
If that doesn't help, you could ask for help in the individual device sections...

[Completed] [Q] Verizon Galaxy Note 2 with Tmobile

I am looking to switch to Tmobile but would like to keep my Verizon Note 2, which is still in excellent condition. Can anyone point me to a good source on rooting the Note 2/Changing the APK/whatever I need to do to be able to use the phone with T-mobile? Thanks

Hello, and welcome to XDA Assist! I don't think we can help you find a free hotspot, they don't tend to exist. You can see on your device what hotspots are available.
Best wishes
Thanks, I'm sure I'll figure it out. New to this site I just wanna learn some stuff.

Trying tmobile

I'd like to test tmobile data reception in my area without. paying a restocking fee on a tmobile phone if it sucks.
Any way I could get good tmobile reception from my old verizon note 3? Will the tmobile guy do it or am I on my own?

My phone is stock and cannot be rooted. I don't wish to anyway. I merely want to try my phone on tmobile. Won't changing APN be sufficient?

First, you "need" to be rooted to change the APN settings effectively without issues...
I've never done this personally myself and it's "very rare" to do by changing just the APN settings but, I'll do what I can to help point something out to you.
Not all carriers share the same CDMA/GSM Frequencies as some will cross the frequency paths between one, the other and/or both.
So you'll need to look at the Network Capabilities between the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900V) & the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900T). The following links are just one of a few sources to do this with.
https://www.sammobile.com/devices/galaxy-note-3-verizon/specs/SM-N900V/
https://www.sammobile.com/devices/galaxy-note-3-t-mobile/specs/SM-N900T/
From what I can see, the two networks do share a similar/common network capability up to 3G. The 3G/4G LTE is then very much different since the Verizon uses CDMA and T-Mobile uses GSM.
In conclusion, you may be able to get the Verizon device to work on the T-Mobile network but, the 3G may/may not work and the 4G/4G LTE doesn't look like it'll work at all.
Just keep in mind that Identical Devices, like the the "Samsung Galaxy Note 3" itself, doesn't mean identical capabilities (primarily regarding Network Capabilities) like the "Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3" and the "T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3".
This is the best guidance that I can provide you with and I did my best to explain this okay via text...
I do wish you the best of luck!

Oh thanks. I only care about LTE so if that doesn't work there is no sense in trying. My Note 3 has all the VZW updates so as I understand it it cannot be rooted by any known method. Thanks for your help. You prevented me from wasting time and money.
Reports I get from tMobile users vary widely but anecdotally everyone I know personally tells me tMobile reception sucks compared to VZW. I will never know because I'm not going to go through the trouble of purchasing a tMobile device only to have a huge hassle returning it and getting sales tax refunded if I find service inadequate.

I've got a few Verizon Galaxy S devices and have never used them directly with Verizon but, indirectly as a Service Provider and not as a Network Provider (I think I've got that right LOL!).
I personally use the BYOP program from Net10 as my Network Provider.
Net10 has contracts with all the Major Network Providers like Verizon. So my current G900V Galaxy S5 is activated with Net10 and uses the Verizon Towers for Service (yes... I've got 4G LTE service).
Verizon (directly) has great service coverage but, out of my price range. This is why I went with Net10.
