Hello everyone, I would like to know if the GS6 is good taking pictures of moving kids? I have an aunt that wants a new phone, since I have a z3 compact I was considering getting her an xperia z5 compact, but I've been told on the forums of that phone that its not that great for moving kids, so here comes my question, is the GS6 camera good for moving subjects?
This must be on auto mode, all she wants is to take out the camera, point and shoot.
Thank you all
No one? Really?
moving kids ? What is that ? S6 has video stabilization...that can take awsome videos with moving stuff....kids LOL
No cell phone camera is going to be great for stills of fast moving subjects. You need a physically big lense so you can gather enough light during short exposure times. This is why, among other reasons, that sports photographers use huge lenses.
As far as phone cameras go, the S6 is pretty damn good.

I agree in the end its smartphone not canon sport camera that cost 6k or more....
Moving kids.. i would rephrase that=D yet i find the camera pretty damn satisfying except with front facing camera the image is too fake..

I'm looking for a new phone for my wife. She currently has a nexus s and is moderately happy with it but it's on its last legs.
The main criterion for her is a camera (that, and Sims type games but most phones are equally capable there) . We have 2 kids under 4 so we take a lot of pictures.
I'm trying to find the phone with the camera which will best capture moving targets indoors. Reducing blur without constantly readjusting settings and quick access to the camera (dedicated button?) are important.
I have an S3 and it's ok but not as good as I'd hoped (I know we're talking about phones here and when I need a good shot a have a dslr)
So, what do people recommend? S3 and HTC onex get the most press for cameras. She'd use an iPhone if that was best (I don't think it is) I hear good things about the nokia 920 but don't really want to take her down the windows road. Again, most shots will be of moving kids indoors, not stationary objects in full light (which is what most review sites use)

You're right. I'd say Xperia Z is the best Camera phone so far. Has XMOR senser & superior auto+ mode. So you can get standard cam quality pictures.

Though it's easy to take snaps using phone & convenient as well; I'd still prefer a good quality 'Camera' for taking pics. I use a HX9V. It gives super clear images. So reconsider upon your decision.
Finally, the choice is yours.
Samsung galaxy camera
You may want to look at the Samsung galaxy camera (and then just buy her a cheaper phone) - it can take take pictures and play sims games.
I think Galaxy S4 will be equipped a best camera but now it is not released
Galaxy S3
The mentioned Sony will probably take great pictures, but one thing I know from having a kid is that you need a FAST camera -- one that doesn't take a few seconds to focus and snap the shot (my S1 did that :/)
The Galaxy S3 takes good pictures (I've had a few positive comments from people who have seen pics from my phone) and is ridiculously quick at it, meaning you don't miss a special moment. The stock camera app also has a burst mode with auto-detecting the best shot (though you make the final choice).

The sony xperia z is as fast as the s3 so it should take pictures as fast without delay.
If it does delay at all im sure somebody will create a custom ROM that is faster
Hi Folks,
I visited the fair today with my boy which arrives in the city once a year.
My boy was on the rides and I tried getting a few photos of him with my 20mp Sony Xperia Z3....
By the time the photo was taken, my boy had already gone by....
The camera is soooooooooo disappointing, but has so much potential to be good.
Has anybody discovered a decent camera app yet, that has no shutter lag and one that makes full use of the camera?
If I don't find something by November, I'm going for the Nexus 6 :silly:

Haven't tried a different app yet, but I may have something else for you. It's the autofocus that delays the photo.
1. Use the camera button
-push it down slightly, it should focus
-once it has found the focus, just keep holding it slightly
push the button completely if you want to take the photo, it should be without a delay now.
You can also use a different type of autofocus... Have to try the different modes for myself.
Also use manual mode, depending on the light conditions and the movement, you want a high shutter speed and if needed a higher iso, which gives you a sharper image while moving.
Damn, someone should write a guide for the camera
Thanks for this info. I'll give it a go
I'm not sure the camera is quick enough to capture moving stuff. I have tried a lot of modes and can't seem to sort it.
With an awful flash too, in sub par lighting, like parties, this is a recipe for absolute disaster. Can't believe Sony didn't sort out the camera flash.

Sony has the ability to film and during film to make pictures. I do that for fast moving pictures, like filming friends that pass by during marathon's. You can then decide to keep the film and the pictures. If you only want pictures, delete the film afterwards. This way you can start filming in advance and you are sure you are not too late and you have the risk your camera is not ready yet.

I haven't tried it yet, but have you tried the Timeshift burst? I think this is what we should use when trying to capture moving objects.
Yep, that is even better than my idea!
As a general rule, I only use auto on any camera when there is no more than one thing away from perfect conditions:
If it's motion but in great lighting, auto is ok.
If it's dark but the subject is still, auto is ok.
If it's a bit dark AND there is motion, you are gonna need to set up some manual settings or a mode like burst to get a good result. That said, as above, focussing first is essential for moving objects. Find something that is at the same distance as the subject you want, half hold the button to get the focus point, then hold it until the subject comes into frame, then depress fully. This, combined with burst, is the best way for fast movement.
Ok, I was at a scary halloween function last night, and by the time I took photos of scary subjects, they'd gone...
There's no excuse for this camera, it's a mess...
I have a Fuji XT1 camera and I know how photography works, apparently the Xperia Z3 has 20 mega pixels - Maybe it does, but only if you want a grainy shot....It's shocking!

How can you say you understand photography when all you point to is the megapixel count? There is so much more to a good photo than resolution.
The reason I point to the 20 mega pixel is because the photos taken with this camera should be of a good enough standard to print out at a size of 18" x 12" however, the photos look grainy on screen so I'd hate to see how crap they look any bigger.
The camera is shocking, the 4k videos are too so please dont try to defend it. Its very poor!
A Better Camera is a good alternative.
My wife has the Galaxy S5 and we're real impressed with the camera. Pictures of our kids are great.
We both had the Nexus 5 previously, and the camera is terrible in comparison. It *can* take great shots, just very few. SGS5 takes great shots almost always.
My main thought is taking pictures of our kids in normal everyday situations and lighting. I don't care as much about photos from nature, etc. Most smart phone cameras take those well. But kids move and lighting isn't always right, etc. SGS5 seems to do great with this. What about the OnePlus One? In comparison?
check reviews. theres a lot of them. everyone has their own preference
Low light conditions will produce noisy photos on the this phone. Trying to compare the two cameras is like comparing apples and oranges though, Samsung cameras are over-saturated, the OnePlus camera produces more natural colour.

I had S5 and Note Edge. Hands down, OPO takes better photos. I use to take a pic then head straight to VSCO. I have never edited a OPO photo, ever. The only thing OPO doesn't have is OIS that the Note Edge had. PM me and I'll give you my instagram to see for yourself
My pictures are coming out flat, with very poor contrast and colour rendition. I've owned mainly Samsungs before, and their cameras, even lower in MP, have given excellent results. I was expecting something lot better with a 20MP camera, but the quality I'm getting is comparable to maybe a 5MP camera. I use the Superior Auto mode, with full 20MP resolution.
Anyone else disappointed with the camera as well?
I'm not disappointed with it but seems some people are. Have you looked in the General section? There's a thread for voicing your opinion on the cam: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2887635

I just talked about that few days ago...
I was comparing Note4 and Z3 and Note 4 kicked Z3s ass...
Z3 can take great photos outside when there's a lot of light but in lower light conditions photos are terrible...
You can always switch to manual shooting mode and set few things but you won't get nothing special...
That's the only thing I would like to see improved in next gen Xperia...
I'm absolutely satisfied with everything else..
OK, that and maybe X-pen, Sammy has S-pen so why shouldn't we have X-pen
It's amazing addon for many things (I'm using S-Pen to sign documents in PDF, without needing to print them out) and emailing them after signing...

The kind words are for you.
Enjoy your KNOX.
funky0308 thanks for your feedback. I feel exactly the same.. Z3 is a great device, EXCEPT for the camera. I've used Note, Note2, 3 AND 4, but never found much use for the Spen other than scribbling and drawing etc. in my free time. So I don't miss it at all. A 5.5" screen, however, would help tremendously.
Hi everyone,
So I've been looking at the mate 8 as my next purchase, and Some reviews state the camera quality isn't good due to software/firmware issues. Other reviews state the camera quality is really good. I was wondering what owners opinions are? If it does have exposure and focus issues, are they sorted if you use a different camera app? I don't know if different apps can alter issues that might be related to firmware?
Thanks
Ian
I wouldn't consider myself a power user but I'm very happy with the camera so far. I would mostly be taking pictures of friends and family etc and quality is just fine for me
I'm the same, mainly I'll be taking pictures of the family and scenery, that kinda thing. I'm not what you'd call a professional photographer by any means. But it is said the best camera you have is the one on you at the time, so I just want to make sure it's a relatively good one
Thanks
Ian
Camera was bad with the first update
But with latest update it became better
But if you are seeking for great camera go for lg or sam
If you wanna a power horse phablet go for mate 8
That's the thing, I've had both Samsung and LG phones before, and while the cameras were good I wasn't keen on the phones themselves. I've had a G3, a Note 4, an S6 and a Oneplus One. I was half considering a Oneplus 2, but only because of the price. £249 is cheap for a high spec phone. I'm not keen on the nexus line of phones either. I know they are popular, and you probably think I'm mad. But they are just a bog standard android phone. If I'm paying more than £400 for a phone I want it to do more than the straight forward stuff, straight out the box. Other wise id just get an iPhone. Half the stuff on the Mate 8 I'll probably never use I admit, but the fact its there is what I like. Does that make sense?
Has anybody tried a different camera app from the play store to see if that improves the pictures, or isn't it as simple as that? I'm not sure how apps, firmware, API's and hardware all tie in together, so I apologise in advance if that was a stupid question.
Thanks
Ian
The camera is a so and so in my eyes. It's ok, but very soft, in daytime but I wouldn't pick it to take pictures of kids indoor. Right now the best all around camera I have is the Nexus 6P, mostly because it will do really good indoors and most of my pics are indoors. I read that there will be a upgrade for the camera after 162 firmwarewize. Otherwise, it's a really good phone. Apps doesn't do better than stock camera.
Skickat från min HUAWEI NXT-L29 via Tapatalk
The camera is fine. It's not the best camera out there in terms of image quality when you zoom in on the pictures but it does the job. It has good colors and good exposure. It's fun to shoot with. I think quality should be able to be fixed with software update. I find that some indoor night shots almost have the same amount of detail as some of the ones shoot in daylight. The processing seems to heavy creating artefacts in images taken even in daylight.
The Mate 8 is pretty much the perfect phone in every way except the camera is not top notch. Excellent screen that is more clear and has better contrast than the screen on my iPhone 6S Plus. The battery life is the best you can get on any phone now. The build quality is fantastic. Audio quality in headphones is top notch, best I've every heard in any phone the dynamic range and clarity is amazing. Even better than my Meizu Pro 5 that has an internal DAC and amplifiers in it. It is super fast and has a very smooth and responsive UI.
Thank you for your input. You guys have confirmed the fact that the mate 8 will be my next phone just got to wait for it to come into stock again now!
Thanks
Ian
