Noob UI question? - General Questions and Answers

Reading in a Custom MM ROM Development thread where I can't yet post questions or comments, the OP disabled "quick pull down menus" in the latest build - to the jeers & cheers of alpha downloaders. What are quick pull down menus?

if you havent seen it, its when you double pull down the notification bar and there are some quick toggles to turn on wifi bluetooth and other things. i would guess he didnt fully remove it, (i could be wrong) but just removed the option to quick pull it down. you can set the rom to pull down the not bar on the right/left and expand this panel directly. so basically one side pulls the panel, and the other side pulls notifications. usually devs make this so it can be turned on or off, not locked on.

Thanks for the clarifying explanation bweN diorD. You should make a palindrome of your user ID. `

wow this is pretty amazing. the new colors are awesome! definitely would donate!
suggestions; alternate colored notification bar icon colors (ie the ones found in Handcent), and later, i know its still only beta, email and gmail support if that would even be a possibility.
Besides those minor aesthetic opinions, it works like it says. Switch of notifications in chompsms, handcent or whatever you have including the stock app, set up the preferences in this one and it works brilliantly!
thanks for your hard work!
Works so far.
Im still unclear on the default icon in notification bar. Is it mandatory for it to appear there ?
Reason being I have handcent setup with different icons/sounds for individuals.
When a text comes in the trackball works fine but I get both the default messaging app Icon in notification bar AND handcent.
I tried turning off the default messaging but it pops up with trackball.
This is a great little app. Thanks. Do you have plans to enable it for email alerts as well?

Thanks for your kind comments.
I'm looking to implement this at a lower level than app, so we can get different notifications. Currently the system can override the trackball.
I'm open to icon/image donations (via pm please to keep the thread tidy) I'll give you credit if used.

Id much much prefer to get this working on Email /VM/Missed calls etc than worrying about aesthetics at this point.
Hace you contacted any of the rom guys to see if it can be dug into a deeper level and work in a fuller capacity ?
+1 on that- to be able to apply this across the whole rom would be fantastic.
this is awesome- i think it needs the ability to not have the icon show in status bar though due to some people (me being one) who use handcent personalised notifications.
now, where is your donate button?

I'm looking into that. The problem is the current codebase only has a method flashing the trackball white. We need to hook right into the core notification system.

I can add an option but i think you will end up with a situation where the trackball does not stop flashing. Because its my notification, when it get selected/acknowledged my Cancel "callback" method is actioned.

Hands down one of my favorite apps now. Thanks for making this. Its funny how the simple things are some of the best (colored blinking lights) lol.
the beta version is not working for me. the alpha version of trackball notification worked alright (with very few minor bugs). i turned off the notifications on messaging and popup sms and i get one white flash and nothing else. i turned off popup sms entirely and still got the same issue. im currently running cyanogen's beta4 if that matters.

Thanks again (will donate down the road definitely)!
Are you going to implement a way to flash different colors for different contacts SMSing you? If you do this i will definitely buy you a beer!
When I recieve texts now, my notification bar shows two of the smilie face text notifications and when i pull the bar down it shows the same texts twice. Only started after I installed this.

All the changes have been merged into CyanogenMod 5.0.7 ! Please do NOT flash any of the current listed versions. I will remove this message if bcrook88, pershoot, or myself updates anything.

Old Post:
Been a while since I did anything for Android, so I decided to first tackle one of the problems I have with it, which is, "Why must Android show the red arrows when I make a mistake, even in stealth mode?" I find it quite "insecure" .
Anyway, I know there's a morph to have a invisible lockscreen posted in david1711's thread, but this mod allows it to be an option . Enough talk, here's some screenshots:

Changelog:
250510:
- Added ability to change battery percentage colour
- Added option to hide clock on status bar
- Attempt to fix the percent alignment on D/S devices
240510:
- Implemented 2 additional options.
- "Show unlock message" will hide the "Draw pattern to unlock" message
- "Show unlock error messages" will hide the "Sorry, try again" message
- However, if you get the incorrect pattern, it will still show the 30 seconds countdown. That is not configurable, don't intend to make it configurable as well.
- Removed Browser.apk from package since it's included in CM5.0.7 latest test releases now .
230510:
- Notification items' colours are now changeable. HOWEVER, not all notification items will change, as some of them are implemented in a different way by the app dev themselves . Not sure if I can do anything about it yet.
- Re-organized SpareParts. For those asking, I have no idea what PLMN and SPN means, I took it from the source variable names. What I do know is they are related to carrier, and you can change them for your carrier colour to change.
- Updated source to CM's latest .
180510:
- Added various options into spare parts to allow configuration of clock, date, and many other colours. A reboot is required for the changes to take effect! SPN and PLMN is for the carrier .
170510 #2:
- Removed the swipe function in browser . It broke the Browser completely. Sorry about the error.
- Browser.apk no longer available as standalone since all it does is increase the max tabs from 8 to 16. It is still in the update.zip .
- Fixed the PIN lock buttons getting cut off if you use both visible dots and custom message. Thanks to _avatar for the help !
170510:
-Made some modifications to Browser.apk, as follows:
- If in fullscreen mode, swipe down on the title/address bar to show notifications/status bar, touch anywhere on the webpage will hide it back.
- Increased max number of tabs from 8 to 16.
- It is included with this mod update.zip because I've made some changes to framework, and I'm not sure how well it will work on the previous CM5.0.6 framework. A standalone link is also available, please report if it works for those on CM5.0.6 or CM5.0.7 WITHOUT the rest of our framework modifications.
160510:
Added option to make the delay on incorrect pattern customizable. (I dislike the delay!)
Changed the correct delay of PIN lock by avatar from 750ms to 0ms. Report if there're problems .
150510 #3:
Made it show 6 apps by default, otherwise it will cause a boot loop unless you've used spare parts first.
150510 #2:
Fixed a visual glitch with the focus/select drawable being cut off for the right-most apps if set to 12 recent apps.
150510:
Test release with configurable number of recent apps. Configure in SpareParts. 9 and 12 is now working but looks wrong (left-aligned). pershoot/bcrook88/myself are working on it. Removed previous version as invisible slider broke too many things. Give pershoot's links a try if you are looking for them since he has not added the invisible slider part. For those who have flashed my previous test release containing Browser.apk, please push Browser.apk from CM5.0.7-test2, or simply reflash CM5.0.7-test2 (or test whatever, if you're on D/S ).
140510:
Updated with invisible slider option . Screens: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6475563&postcount=38

Special thanks to:
pershoot - For being a very helpful guy throughout, esp. with his help with the make commands (although he suggested I do a full make ), and for the 15 recent apps layout, from which 9 and 12 was derived from
bcrook88 - Same as above, without the full make

britoso - I used part of his XML for the custom message

To Do:

Have an option in Spare Parts to reset all colours to defaults?
sweet thanks so much!! downloading now
looks like the link is broken....
Re-uploading, try in a minute or so, I based the update.zip off pershoot's 15apps, and forgot to remove one line (not major, but I'm ocd ).
thank you kind sir.....great work!
Thank you! I got tired of people peeking over to see my lockscreen combination lol.
A lot of apps FC after flashing, the notification bar disappeared and I cannot switch off my phone
I previously installed pershoot's OCUV kernel + 15 Recent apps on CM 5.0.7 Test 1

Request:
would it be possible to implement an option like this in settings:
So everyone can insert a specific text into the lockscreen??

I'm not using CM at the moment. I switch back and forth between it and my own custom Desire Rom. But this is the first useful lockscreen mod for CM that i have seen so far.. Great work!
rori: Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it. By the way, with the britoso mod, what happens if you have the dots on? Or are they permanently gone?
For those of you having FCs, I'll be honest with you, I have zero idea why . Are you all using any morphs? How about flashing CM5.0.7-Test, then my update.zip again? Pershoot's changes will also replace services.jar, although I'm not too sure if it will affect anything. I'm doing a repo sync now and will make a version for test2 asap.
ill roll this in tonight to the 15recent.
good work
Thanks pershoot !

That xml layout mod is for the slide-lock-screen with the slider below the text. There are ways of showing a view below another, example , Not tried this but it looks feasible.
Any chance you could implement hiding the clock and/or date?
I have a live wallpaper that displays the time. (ping pong)
Hi britoso, thx for the help. Actually I've already added a line of text under, but it doesn't seem to look good. Adding the text directly over doesn't look good either .

[APP][2.1+] StatusBarAddon

Hi everyone,
Even unregistered I've been using this forum for some years. Now it's time to make my contribution.
I've seen some people requesting this app, and even I needed it, so I'm presenting it waiting for your feedback.
Some applications on market (like Notification Toggle, Elixir 2, etc) are doing more or less what I porpose, but on a different way. Also, as far as I know, no app does exactly the same.
So, here it is my proposal. StatusBarAddon is like an status bar mod, so you can "pull" power controls at any time, on any rom even without root.
This app is free and available on android market (search for):
StatusBarAddon
What it does:
"Pull" down power controls at any time (and on any app);
Costumizable controls;
Volume and brightness controls;
Compatible with all android 2.1-2.3 versions (sorry, no ICS support);
Compatible with the Android status bar;
Free.
How to help
FeedBack;
Provide translations;
Donate;
Thank you for your time!
(As you know, I'm not able to post links, so sorry but no market links or pics )
Here's the link: https://market.android.com/details?...=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5ybXNjLnN0YXR1c2JhciJd
Thank you for the URL!
Add landscape mode, please make + the ability to hide icon in the status bar. I would also like to when you click on the button does not switch to the settings window, and immediately disable or enable any mode (eg Data)
Thank you very much for your program!
can you get a direct link to your softwareb
Not working on my Atrix running ICS
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Thank you for your suggestions, I'll try to implement that as soon as I can (I'll be busy for some time, for professional reasons).
The data toggle is a peculiar one, since Android does not provide a standard interface to enable/disable data, so I decided to not do hacks (like change the carrier apn). I'm not sure if I can make anything about data (and Sync).
Since I'm a new user, I'm not able to post links, sorry.
That's right, I completelly forget to test ICS, so no ICS support, sorry for any inconvenience.
You are wellcome
nice app, i like it, especially the brightness changer.
you said you need translations? i could translate to Estonian.
a bug is that the gps toogle wont work, it allways shows gps is on, pressing the button doesent change anything.
and please, make the icon invisible also
work pefectely on sgs2 i love it keep the good work
Unfortunately sys it's not compatible with my P999 running ICS.
Nice app
But you should add an option to make the background transparent with black or white icon and add a option to remove the icon in statut bar
I can maybe translate to french
҉ Envoyé depuis mon Samsung Galaxy 3 avec Kyorarom 5.2 ҉
The GPS switch uses the Android power control widget, so I'm sorry but I cannot provide any fix for that at the moment.
I've just released a new release wich makes it possible to hide the notification icon.
I'll now work (as soon as I can) on some costumization options.
Thank's for your feedback
Nice and usefull app. No problems so far om my HTC Wildfire.
Some suggestions:
add battery status
add volume levels for ringing tone, media, alarm.
tap on "sync" should do a "sync all" instead of going to the settings
make it possible to choose the order of the buttons (e.g. I don't use fllight mode that often and would like to enebale it, but somewhere near the end of the list).
Can do translation to Dutch/Nederlands.

That's your problem, get off stock already! Lol
The battery status is on my todo list, will probabilly be one of the next improvements. Also, I've already started to do something about the buttons order.
The different volume levels will certainly be considered.
For the sync toggle, it's the same situation as the data toggle, since I haven't already find a convenient to do it, but I'll keep searching for a solution.
Some users are having troubles with the bar (not working at all), but I can't reproduce this situation myself on my phone or in the emulator, so I can't provide any support at the time, sorry for that.
Thank you again for your feedback!
you should make it so that when you have only the bars (volume and brightness) activated then the box aboove, where the other options are, should dissapear.

Modding Toggles of JB 4.1.2 (For Note 2 and S3)

Hi Guys,
I'm building a more usable toggles for Samsung Galaxy Note II
I'm modding the stock toggles to add more options and and customization through phone settings.
I'm stuck and desperately need someone's advice. I need to do 2 things
1. Add flashlight and airplane mode toggles. (I know blocking mode is a better alternative but some people like me prefer to sleep with the radios off at night, to save battery and our health).
2. I want to disable the animation which happen when you pull down the notification bar and quickly the quicksettings (toggle) buttons move from left to right. I need to disable this feature.
If anyone of you have any ideas please give me a helping hand.
Running WanamLite 2.4 XXDLL7 in Samsung Galaxy Note 2
thanks a lot

Secondly, can you give some more information on what you are doing? Perhaps some details on what you are editing, etc. (Currently, your post looks like you want someone to make mods for you... I don't think that's your intention, which is why I'm suggesting that you give more technical detail.)

Sorry, changed the title.
I have already made the following edits...
1. Changed the notification bar background to pitch black from grey.
2. Removed battery percentage symbol (only symbol)
3. Changed toggle button background to pitch black (from blue so now they look much better)
I'm lost on the section of adding airplane mode/ flash light mode.
If anyone has done that please give me a heads up on how to acomplish as I'm totoally clueless on where to begin. I have done loads of modding to SystemUI.apk but kinds lost in this area.
I can share the apks, I dont want anyone to make any mods but give me an idea on what to do...
Thanks...

have you try trace the quickpanel xml?
I'm not sure your level of development experience, but are you aware that adding new functionality to the toggles is a VERY different task than changing some colors or graphics?
Most of the mods I've seen that do this actually bring in a separate apk file for the toggle bar, and then modify the systemui smali to use that alternative toggle bar. One of the most common (at least from what I've seen) to be added to TW is Lidroid's quickpanelsettings (see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289896)
Gary
Well this gives me the opportunity to remind everyone that lidroid isnt the origin of this mod.. actually team obssession were the first to introduce it and we werent using any specific apps nor ressource files for this and tsm (team sbrissen mod) were the first to use an app to manage these toggles that was then re-used / re compiled by lidroid...
@op I suggest you have a look a jkay ' s systemui last I checked he was using a systemui that didn't require external resources so you can add only the specific one you need on your xml and the relevant ones in smali side and of course the resources its looking for...
Hope that helps

This guide will get you the wanam toggles with the settings app for these toggles. It gives you a choice upto 23 toggles which you can reorder, delete, whatever! Also if you can do this mod then you will be able to incorporate that app into settings very easily. Just search how to add app to settings on google.
Hope if works out for you and don't forget to thank wanam!

[Q] How to disable navbar in PAC-man on Droid Razr Maxx

My Droid Razr Maxx has a navbar below the screen that is part of the phone's hardware. Therefore, I don't want to use the screen space for displaying PAC-man's navbar. However, I cannot find an option in settings to disable PAC-man's navbar. So, my question is: Is there a way to get rid of PAC-man's navbar?
I am new to this forum and I tried to post this question to the PAC-man developer's thread, however, it would not let me post to a developer's thread because it complained that I didn't have 10 or more forum posts yet.... Ergo, which is why I am posting this question here.
Thanks!
Gordon
Never mind, I figured it out.
Goto Settings > Hybrid Properties > Interface. Slide the navbar size to zero to hide it and then click the check mark at the top right to save the setting.
