alternative OS's for the m2 aqua - Sony Xperia M2

hello guys,
dont get me wrong im digging the new android, its faster and easier and better looking than the old ones.. the only thing that is terrible is the battery consumption..
so i know you guys have tutorials on rooting my device therefor making it cleaner and that could also mean uninstalling some google stuffs could longer the battery life..
now i just read about other mobile OS's than iOS/Android/Windows.
but it isnt that easy..
i would love to install ubuntu touch or something similar on my device.. i can imagine them being pretty serious about their stuff as it is with PC Software from them. althouugh i cannot find anything on google about compatibilty or how to install on exactly this device.
anyways, help and words would be hardly appreciated..
cheerss

There is FirefoxOs
http://fxpblog.co/firefox/nightly/
PS: Our device is Eagle

hey thanks for your reply, are you using the Firefox OS at the moment or do you have any experience with it?
Do you think the whole handling of my device will improve?
i can easily let go of syncronisation and stuff like that but my main intention is to root and to have a cleaner mobile overall..
cheers greetings

I'm not using FxOs and i never used it, but i can teach u how to install.
Your bootloader is Open?
if it's Closed, can u open it or it's locked?

BL is still closed. i never did a thing on that sony until now...
played around with the samsung galaxy xcover and rooted it while back...
tutorial would be appreciated a lot. i think i once had one but iim not sure if its the right one.
would you recommend FFOS though?
oh and do you suffer with hiiiigh battery loss after the lollipop update on your sony m2 aqua?
(and did u ever try iit underwater.. i dont think this works^^)

sounds interesting. is this getting updated ??? like actively supported or something?

If what is improved then making the dev update. It is important that you stick to the flash's manual and the APN manually enters.

A few noobie questions

Hey guys, Already got the SGS2 with SensatioN ROM 3 on it, so know Android a fair bit really. But for Christmas I got a Motorola Xoom and very happy with it really!
But a few questions, specific to the Xoom itself, rather than Android:
1) Is it as easy to root/put custom ROMs/mods, etc on?
2) Is there any benefits of rooting it?
3) Will it mess up any warranty/guarantee if I did root it?
4) If anyone has one and they've done any significant mods/roms to/on it, then please could you tell me if you would recommend them, and give me links etc?
Thanks for your help guys with every problem I've had so far!
Merry Christmas everybody, hope your day has been great!
Oli
Hi there, i've a SGS2 too.. so i could answer with my experience...
1)its different root a Cellphone and a tablet, but its easy, you need, adb commands on you pc, and the root image, and thats all, find the thread on dev sect.
Then when you are root, just download the rom (Tiamat), reboot on recovery mod, and install it. It's easy...
2) yeah, if you are not root you can't install romsm you get superuser access ( you manage all your device...
3) Yes you lose, but you can unroot it.
4) Motorola Xoom have an AWSOME rom, whos developers are the Team Tiamat... they make pefect the Xoom...
You get the Thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254933
And the Team Rogue, make wonderful themes and kernels that give to the xoom a high perfomance with few lose battery....
i hope this help you, if you need some else tell me

If you are interested in rooting and modding, you could take a look at this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798
Also, Android 4/Ice Cream Sandwich rom is in development right now; as a matter of fact, I am using it as a daily driver now...it's just missing a few bits, but it's already super fast, smooth and stable, over clocked to 1.6 ghz. So you're going to have fun.
Okay thanks for your help so far but im gonna need a bit more help than just "adb" because m only a 15 year old lad and I don't understand that?
Also what is missing from ICS, as I put it on my SGs2 and it had quite a few features missing/broken?

Actually, I'll bet you will understand how to do this...just go slow and step by step. There really isn't any quicker way (but you can use the limited adb setup furnished by Mandebrot Benoit).
What's still missing from ICS for the Xoom? So far, only camera and microphone don't work. If you root, you might want to flash the latest Team Eos ICS nightly---look in the Development section for more info.
I ahve a mac too, could you give me relevant links/information towards rooting please?
Thanks

Well, I don't have one so I suggest you search on rooting or adb/fastboot with a mac. There have been threads/posts on the topic.

Zoostorm SL8 Mini Roms

Hi all!,
Sorry if this is the wrong place but I have a Zoostorm SL8 mini which is an awsome litle tablet but dosnt have support for the Youtube App for some bizarre reason.
I want to find a way to fix this and how found guides here to rooting the tablet, but to the best of my knowledge rooting isent going to fix my problem its merely going to allow me to flash custom features.
Currently I can find no Roms for my system and I was wondering how development works on this and if there is a way I can use CM10 and other mods without them being supported by my device.
Any info or help would be good as it seems like this tablet just needs a decent rom to be pretty awsome!
they have released an update now

Hey buddy thanks for responding to me, I've been checkiung daily for software updates onthe tablet and never thought to check online in case it was a downloadable update.
Shall be doing this when i get home later from the office, Again thankyou!

[Q] Question about rooting my phone

Ok soo I am thinking about rooting my Sony Ericsson and I wanted too know if it's worth it or not.. I know there are alot of great apps that you can get.. but I heard that you can get free 3g when you root you're device, is this true? and also I wanna know if I shouldn't root my phone and just not take the risk..
I also have a problem with the phone typing by itself sometimes and I have to restart it a few times and it quits and goes back to normal.. any help on this?

lol.. u won't get free 3g after rooting..someone trolled you!!
rooting will void ur software warranty of phone!
But it has it's own advantages, u could use custom rom and save battery, RAM through tweaks!
you could get hardware acceleration via Cyanogenmod and play certain games which are not compatible with ur phone!
Find ur device forum for more details! Just use search bar on the top right corner!
as for ur problem, dust and moisture can cause this..remove screen protector and wipe the screen and apply new protector
if problem persists, show it to service if u are under warranty!
My advice is always the same.
Find a reason to root your device before just doing it.
A custom recovery can be nice, but do you really need one ?
Custom ROMs can be nice, but do you want to take the risks they come with ? Just scroll through these forums and see all the posts about people who have bricked their devices - even people who had good experience and knew what they were doing. Sometimes things go wrong - are you willing to pay to have your device repaired if you brick it ?
Rooting alone opens you up to some security risks - so there's really no point in rooting unless you have a plan about what you want to do with it and understand the risks and what you can do to make sure you don't do something bad.
Yeah, these things can do some cool stuff - and if you would like it it can be worth it. But if you don't really care, it's not.
Do some research. Decide what you want to do.
I rooted my Desire for two reasons: 1 To upgrade to ICS
2 To run many apps without
filling up my internal memory. I'm really happy with the result and
if i find support for Android 5.0 in the future i'll go for it.
If you use it as a phone only don't risk it.
I have another question.. If I root my phone.. will I get the latest updates? Cause my phone only has 2.3.3 and I see alot of people will 4.0 and I was wondering if I do root it .. is it possible to get 4.0 or greater than 2.3.3?
and thanks for helping me

Okay, there are two kinds of "updates". You can still get OTA carrier updates with root only, but you may lose root in doing so.
Then there are custom ROMs. I have no idea if an ICS ROM is available for your phone - Google it or search the forum and see. Beware that these typically do not work 100% perfectly. If there is a custom ROM depends in if someone put the time into making it or not.

If you root your phone you won't have to worry about updates from your carrier, nor will you want it. All you will do is keep up with the thread of the ROM of your choice and see if the developer has updated the ROM. As far as getting a certain version of Android for your phone it's all entirely on the phone you have. Look around for a forum for your specific device and check their development section to see what ROMs they have available for you.

first of all to flash a rom you need your device to be rooted, is your device rooted? second do you know for sure that this rom is for your device? because if you try you will brick and break your tablet.

well since its android 2.2 you can use this file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765 download the file FROM YOUR TABLET its on the second post, it should be called GingerBreak-v1.20.apk, install it and tap the root option, i cannot promise that it will root your tablet but it roots most devices with android 2.0-2.3 unless they have security stuff like htc phones. and i still dont understand, you are unable to install apps? can you explain a little more please?

so pretty much android is allot like windows in many ways, its pretty much a computer, the only thing thats missing is admin privileges which is called rooted for android, it pretty much gives you access to messing with the entire device such as maybe your tablet comes with stupid bloatware apps that you dont use and they are taking up space, rooted devices can remove thouse apps, but you would have t be carefull, some of them can break your device if you delete them. now flashing is pretty much installing windows 8 on a windows 7 computer. so say your phone/tablet was only updated to android 2.2 (which is a older android version, we are at 4.3 right now and googles working on 4.4 as we speak!) and the people who made the device dont support it anymore is pretty much saying your stuck at a low version, its outdated, buy the newer better one for 200 $ more. thats where android comes in handy, you flash whatever version of android you want on your device, or you could install the same version but another devices interface such as touchwiz for samsung phones, maybe you want htc's sense instead of touchwiz.

I am disposed to take part in the collect, considering how much as now an s advance costs, wouldn't be so hard to get quickly the money and with very little effort for all.
I think that is a good idea and can really give a new life to our device.
Obviously a spare s advance of a willing and generous user would be the best thing we can hope in, but seems really hard to happen, however, my hope isn't died yet
Maybe on weekend i'll look into what changes are needed to run atleast nougat on it (from source), if this'll work then we'll think about Oreo xD

If you're really interested, I'd suggest to look at the Oreo rom of Chrono:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-ace/ace-2-develop/rom-lineageos-15-0-t3678722
and to look at the Chrono Kernel (compatible with janice but with some bugs):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...tom-kernel-t2793420/post74179403#post74179403
Ace II has the same chip of S Advance (with some code differences) and the dev is very helpful to explain how it works.
Two guys in the same project would be better than one guy on a single project.
As far as I know @sm_adil doesn't reply to any PM and Epirex is busy on his Moto phone.

Yes I agree two or more dev contributing to the same project will be good!!
However if you consider me as fully fledged dev you're wrong I'm more of web developer than android or java. I did build couple of kernel's for testing my skills but than again they were not so stable and I didn't had time to debug it!!
So yeah if get the time I do want to build a ROM for Janice :fingers-crossed:
I've got a Janice right here that I don't use. I'm actually looking right now for a way to root it and install whatever superior than the Gingerbread ROM it currently has, but the point is that it's available for testing purposes. Btw, is it possible to leave a phone number here?

I want to learn how roms are built and I would like to support in developing Android Go rom for S Advance, if possible. Can you please guide me where I can start?
As per my experience, I have built a modified linux kernel with some modified device drivers and was able to boot it with a debian root filesystem on Freescale SabreLite board. But never built an android rom earlier.

You could start from one of these tutorials:
https://nathanpfry.com/category/android/
I'm not good at compiling, I tried it and didn't like it. So I can't help you more than that.
For this reason, with the help of some xda users, I have donated a S Advance to @ChronoMonochrome.
Currently he's actively developing a new kernel and a new rom in this section:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s-advance/development
I think we could expect more roms with higher android versions, so your feedback is important.
