[Completed] Retrieve Data from Bricked S3 - XDA Assist

Hi There,
Firstly I do apologize if this has already been posted, but I have searched through the forums and have not been able to find any specific information about this particular problem.
I have a Galaxy S3 (purchased in 2012) and a few weeks ago, the phone started to automatically switch off (when I locked it) and I would have to hold the power button for about 15-30 seconds for it to switch back on.
I checked the power button(to see if it was broken and pressing down all the time) but it seemed to be fine as whenever I pulled the battery, the phone would NOT come on unless I held the power button.
About 1 week ago when i tried to turn my phone on, with the power button, but it would get stuck on the samsung logo screen (it was frozen, not looping).
I was still able to enter both recovery and download mode. So I tried wiping the cache but it did nothing.
Then I tired flashing the ROM with ODIN and it passed but it also did nothing (tried flashing multiple times all with "PASS" as well as wiping the data cache in conjuction with the flashing but to no avail).
Tried flashing it again with BL and it also passed, but now whenever I try to enter Recovery Mode or Turn the phone ON it would display a White Scrambled Screen which probably means eMMC failure.
Now for the problem:
How do I retrieve the information on the phone ?
N.B;
- I do not care about fixing the phone, only want the information
-I cannot enter Recovery Mode, BUT I can enter download mode.
-When I connect S3 to PC it is detected (In Device Manager it states "Samsung Mobile USB CDC Composite Device")
-I did have my phone password protected before this happened using the Pattern Password (you have a 3x3 Dot grid in which you can use to draw a line(s) which will function as a password)
-My phone is an S3 GT-I9300
-Never interfered with the ROM or software on the phone before this (was running the official android software from Samsung which I believe was Android Version 4.3).

Hello, and welcome to XDA!
I was going to suggest this thread...
> Samsung Galaxy S III I9300, I9305 > Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting > Recovering data from brick I9300
...but I see you made it there already.
So yeah, flash those (CF-AutoRoot and TWRP/Team Win Recovery Project) in order via ODIN/Download Mode. Should be able to be in a state to back up your files to a MicroSD (or go the more readable, but slower process of "adb pull").
Hope this helps, and good luck!

[Completed] [Q] Samsung S2 doesnt work after SuperSu update

Long story short, day after rooting, SuperSu suggested to update the program. It was late at night and I clicked one of the options which was TWRP/CWMR but for HTC devices . I agreed and it rebooted the device. Now I am stuck in booting page where there is an exclamation mark with product name.
Volume UP + HOME + POWER dont get me nowhere. I also tried to go ODIN mode (Volume DOWN + HOME + POWER) but no help.
Only thing it does is after 8 seconds of power button, it gives me black screen and goes back to boot display.
Took out my and put back in my battery, later external card and SIM but always stuck at booting.
When chargin battery, it doesnt even show the visual of the battery charging(green area) but only buffering ring on battery icon.
I think the whole firmware is bad, but how is it possible to reset everything ?
I hope it isnt bricked.
Hi,
First, we need your exact model number to guide you to help. There are several S2 models.
Also, did you have twrp or CWM installed already? It sounds like SU tried to boot to them but you had stock recovery? Or am I wrong?
How did you root originally?
And yes, you need to get into download mode, you likely need to flash stock with Odin again. Without download mode or even recovery mode... You are stuck.
At the moment I am trying to get my hands on JIG USB which enables me to go Download mode. and then flash ROM from ODIN.
The exact model is S2 i9100.
Hopefully it works for you! In the future then, all questions and issues about your device would go here,

[Completed] Galaxy s5 wont boot words show up flash read failure there is no pit binary- bootloop

Hey everyone,
Samsung Galaxy s5
Verizon
Fully stock as of October 10th 2015 (no sure the exact android operating system)
Not rooted or modified in any way
My wife's phone decided to kill itself yesterday. The phone worked fine in the morning then all of a sudden it stopped working. When you try to start the phone it will vibrate and nothing on screen shows up. After about 57 seconds (yes I timed it), the phone quickly displays:
ODIN: Flash read failure
ERROR: There is no pit binary
The phone then goes into a boot loop and repeats this process.
She did not approve any updates or anything, it just happened. I am assuming an app updated itself and the app was majorly corrupted and messed with the kernel?
I have tried the variety of reset options (hold power+Volume up+home screen) and it does nothing. Removing the battery and reinserting it does nothing as well. I tried to boot without the SD card and we get the same results. I can't get the phone into the menu to select recovery or anything.
When I plug the phone into my computer nothing happens. The computer does not recognize it and the phone does not respond. The phone does charge the battery, how do I know? I as well have a galaxy s5 but mine is on ATT. We swapped batteries and we could see that her phone was charging the battery.
I plugged my phone into my computer and it recognizes immediately. I can get into my phone and the SD card from the computer so that rules out the computer as a problem.
Is this hard or soft bricked?
Will a USB Jig force it to give me the download screen or recovery mode or is this thing dead?
Is there a way I can boot from the SD card even though I cant get into the recovery screen?

Sorry for the late response.
It's a strange issue. If you really have changed/flashed/updated nothing, you should first claim warranty (if still available) and send it for repair to the shop/Verzion/Samsung support.
If no warranty, then you may register on xda and ask in the Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum ...
... but if you can boot neither into download mode (Hold Volume DOWN + HOME + POWER) nor into recovery mode (Hold Volume UP + HOME + POWER), it sounds like a hard-brick.
It could also be a screen issue ... but most likely nothing you can fix yourself ... without additional hardware and/or help.
So I recommend to search for a mobile repair/support shop.
Good luck !

[Completed] Galaxy S5 booting into recovery and download problems

My galaxy s5 has a broken volume Up button, and it mostly hasn't been a problem up to this point. I could reboot into recovery and download using advanced reboot or ADB whenever I needed to, but then I bricked my phone with a faulty Lineage OS update. I can now turn the phone on, but it gets stuck on the Samsung logo, never progressing. I can't boot into recovery to recover a backup or flash a safe Lineage zip because my phone's Volume Up button is broken. I cant boot into download to flash using ODIN because after I get to the warning screen, I can't confirm I want to go into download mode with the Volume Up button. Is there any way to force boot into Download or Recovery (maybe using some computer program or something like it) so I can fix the OS and get out of a bricked phone? I don't care about loosing data since I knew the risks going in and have plenty of backups. So far, the only "solutions" I have found have required the phone's ADB (which I cannot access since I cannot boot up the phone), and a promising program that force boots Download mode through a charging cable (which I couldn't download because it was marked as "potentially dangerous" to my computer, A.K.A. a virus).
Repairing the phone's volume button is very complicated and expensive, so that is not an option. Getting a new phone is an option, but it is the option of last resort. Is there anything I can do to salvage this phone?
Hi there and welcome to assist,
I would suggest, get the power button replaced, because you'll get locked out, when battery runs out or phone turns off!
You'll have to create an account to post in the main forums if you have any other questions.

Bootloop, can't enter Recovery mode

So my phone (S6, SM-G920F) crashed recently (completly out of the blue, I was opening a YouTube-Link I've sent myself via the PC) and I can only access the Download Mode, but not the Recovery mode.
What I've tried (In order):
-Flash any ROM (DTM, DBT, VIA [Different Carriers for Germany, I dont know if mines branded]), only the DBT (Universal) ROM even flashed, others just failed in Odin3, phone still doesn't work
-Install TWRP
-Use SmartSwitch (After some failed ROM-Installations, it showed the following Message on the screen of my phone:
Spoiler
"An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software."
, Smart Switch didn't even work. I've installed Samsung USB-Drivers first, then installed Smart Switch. If I try to use the Emergency Recover Function, Smart Switch just freezes up entirely
Does someone here know how I can fix my device?
Someone? D:
Download and run this;
https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3803841&d=1467715462
When you open the program, type the values given here;
Model: SM-G920F
Region: XEF
Auto: Selected
Manual: Unselected
Binary Nature: Selected
Check CRC32: Selected
Decrypt automatically: Selected
When you write and select options given above, press "Check Update" and then press "Download" to download factory firmware for your device.
Once the download has been finished, extract the zip file that you've downloaded via SamFirm.
After unzip it, download and run this Odin (even if you have another one);
https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3804544&d=1467772303
When you open it, press BL and select file which starts with BL from downloaded (from Samfirm) and extacted zip folder.
Do the same thing for AP, CP, CSC.
When you set 4 files to Odin, connect your phone in download mode.
After that, press Start. When Odin done the installation, phone will restart. When it is restarted, disconnect the cable.
After 1-2 minutes, phone will boot up as completely refreshed device.
Even this method doesn't fix your device, then you need to replace your motherboard.
Thank you so so much, it worked like a charm,
Your tutorial was my last chance, and by accident i found this thread who gave me the magic solution (sorry for my bad english, it is not my native language)
Cheers !
Thanks for providing the above detailed instructions forumber2. Apologies for chipping in on the thread, but i had almost exactly the same issues at the iamflee but with one key difference - my wife had dropped the phone down the toilet first! She retrieved the phone immediately powered off, sim card out etc. and left it in a bag of rice for a week to dry out. It wouldn't turn back on at all. I tried all combinations of buttons and nothing, until I plugged it into my laptop and found I could get it into Download mode (but not recovery or to boot).
I tried lots of different ROM's/ TWRP/ bootloaders etc. but no joy, and then came across your answer above.
I followed it to the letter and Odin completed successfully, however the phone did not reboot at the end, it simply turned off, and will not turn back on. I can get it into Download mode but that is all.
Please can someone confirm what I think I already know, that the phone is goosed and I need to move on and stop spending hours trying to get it to work again! Or is there one last glimmer of hope with something else that I can try.
Thanks,
Matt
I am aware this does not contribute to the problem, but may give context.
Currently, I am stuck with an Samsung Galaxy S6 SM-G920F, which I am told 'randomly restarted' and since then was stuck on the Samsung boot screen. After the battery finally reached zero, it became stuck on the battery charging screen.
I have been able to force the phone to restart using either (Power + Vol Down + Home OR Power + Vol Down), but I am still greeted being stuck on the Samsung boot screen. Furthermore, I cannot boot into recovery mode (P + Vol Up + Home), but I can boot into download mode. However, Samsung Kies 2.6 is left on 'Connecting' in perpetuity without giving an error of any kind. I have installed the drivers provided and Windows detects the phone as a 'Gadget Serial'.
So, to clarify:
+ can boot into download mode
+Windows can detect the phone
- cannot boot into recovery mode
- stuck in boot loop
- Samsung Kies stuck on 'connecting'; hence emergency recovery is out the question
- Odin cannot detect the phone in download mode
I would conclude this SM-G920F motherboard has failed, or partially at least
same issue

was your phone submerged in water at all?
I have the same issue as the OP. J700F (J7-2015) stuck in boot loop.
+Charges
+Turns on but stucks on boot logo
+Can enter Download mode
+does show up in ODIN
-Cannot access recovery mode
-Cannot turn the phone on obv.
-Has FRP lock but I have the phone passcode and email (no email password duh)
Now I downloaded the correct firmware for my region (KSA; do I need to use XEF?) and connect my phone in download mode, select the files. now when I press start, it fails in ODIN and shows "Custom binary(boot) not allowed due to FRP" (I may have used wrong wordings but it seems it cannot install firmware due to FRP lock)
Now what am I looking at ?

Weird Bootloop (not actually a bootloop)

Phone: J4+ (SM-J415F)
I wanted flash the stock ROM via Odin on pc and something went wrong (i don't know what) and now the phone shows "An error has occured while updating the device software. Use the emergency function in the Smart Switch PC software." I tried to go in the download mode but the phone "restarts" every 2 seconds when i connect it to the pc or the charger. The recovery didn't work either.
Note: The phone doesn't start even if it is not connected to the PC or to a charger.
I'm also stuck in this weird .non. bootloop
Hey, I had this problem before. The Battery maybe depleted during flashing. You have to find a way to charge it.
Try to boot into Odin warning screen or the IMEI screen, it's where the device won't reboot while your connected to a charger, then give it some time to charge until you have enough time to flash your stock ROM.
Its what I did xd, just watch out for overheating. Using a GN variant.
I solved it by holding all 3 buttons and plugging into USB, it did the whole rebooting thing as usual but I kept the buttons held for about 15/20 reboots and then it FINALLY went into download and I could flash stock rom. If important or not, I'd left it charging all night but showed no sign of life whilst it 'charged'
Something to Try!
The issue seems to be with the HOME CSC is corrupted on the latest version - Probably something by Samsung to outdo the Combo files being produced.
PLUG-IN THE PHONE to PC (NOT WALL), Press and hold POWER + VOL UP + VOL DOWN to BOOT the phone to the ODIN message screen (with the warning), not the Download Screen itself > in this Screen release all the buttons at the same time, if you do this right you should still be on that same screen. Then simply press the POWER once. This should show a Barcode IMEI Serial, etc (Then leave for 5-15 mins on USB Charge then quickly swap with a wall charger).
Then leave it to charge for normally phone charging time. Later PUT INTO ODIN MODE and retry.
I have done this 3 times on this device to make sure this is the correct way.
You might get away booting it to ODIN and trying to swap the power but unsure about that.
After this Go to GOOGLE Search on your laptop/pc > search for SAMFIRM > Put in the model and Download the Combination for J415FXXU5ASK1 and then in SAMFIRM software click Download ROM > Tick the Binary Nature box and then Flash the Combination file in the AP button of ODIN then the on that ROM go to Orange Calculator (IME) type in *#0808# on the next screen select the option with ADB and RM & DMT (normally the bottom) then select PDA on the next and then SAVE and RESET then flash the SAMSUNG ROM with the CSC, not the HOME!<< Just a NOTE! Not Responsible for bricked devices if you do this wrong! Advice only! :good:
