Screen replacement - difference in frame/bezel? - X 2014 Accessories

I got a Moto X 2014 X1095 with a cracked screen and my LCD doesn't even show one pixel.
I want to order a replacement from eBay, but I keep seeing different items that look the same, but some include "+frame" in the description, others include "+bezel".
Here's an example from the same seller:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorola-Mo...sh=item4644b7a768:g:tPgAAOSwiwVWShNI#shpCntId
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorola-Mo...148431?hash=item46452adfcf:g:Mn0AAOSwIwhWShP1
Basically I just want one unit that has everything on it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Typically the most difficult step of the repair is the bezel portion. The moto e link above also shows it has the bezel so it appears the terminology isn't quite right with that seller. Most LCDs will have the frame except the cheapest.
Bottom line best to choose one that is already attached to the bezel. You'll have a better chance of not hating both the phone and yourself during the repair.

Identifying a HTC clone ... and fixing it.

I recently bought a HTC touch phone and i suspect it is a Chinese clone but i really dont know. They all look the same to me (the phones). After searching Xda it appears to be like the HTC Elf100 and dopod S1. Is there a definitive way to tell the exact model? The phone was purchased from a website called Deal Extreme.
I would like to know if it is possible to extract the ROM from the phone and save it onto my computer for back up.
More importantly (and the reason i am here) is that the screen is malfunctioning in that the colours are all very faded and there are black lines across the length of the screen wherever there is text or icons. There is a severe flicker when the backlight is set to anything other than full brightness. For the first three days the screen was crystal clear and the colours very vibrant. The only changes made were installing some third party softwares and applying a screen protector.
I have uploaded an image here:
http://www.ibj.co.nz/vlt/CamScreen.jpg
I am trying to isolate the problem down to software or hardware. If it is hardware i will order another screen or digitizer and replace it and if it is software i will begin to look down that path, perhaps flashing the unit with more up to date ROM.
Tell us one thing, is the serial number in the following format? -> HTxxxGxxxxx, if Yes you have have original HTC Touch, if No, you have a nice Chinese clone.
If the back of the device underneath the battery looks like attached picture, you have the clone on your hands. you will have to ship it back to DX for replacement or repair.
Regards
Just from looking at the front of your phone, yes you have a clone
Yep CLone
OK Thanks for assistance. I have a clone here. DX offered to send me a replacement screen if i can locate one on their website. I would have thought they would know if they have one in stock but apparently not.
Can anyone think of a way to find what sort of a screen i would need to replace this one? I am told that the original HTC screen will not do, perhaps different pin outs.
Replacement screen
So i guess i am just sh#t out o luck then? The retailers can't find a replacement screen. Can the ridgy didge screen be modified to fit a clone?
Don't know. Since it's a clone they can have used whatever LCD, with whatever flex connector. But one thing for sure is that you wont be able to use original HTC Touch LCD.
Best option is to ship back to DX for replacement.

[Q] Moto G 4G/LTE XT 1039 replacement screen

Hy Guys,
I've broken my Moto G 4G front glass. It is still fully working but I want to change the screen.
My problem is that all the replacement parts I've found are marked as compatible with XT 1032/1033/.... but none is mentioning 1039.
Does anyone knows if the screens are the same? Or there is any difference with the connectors?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

Thanks for your reply. I've asked before but the guy took sometime to reply. Apparently it's not, according to him.
This seems a little strange IMHO, but I'll trust is answer.
I've found another seller with a replacement for 4G and ordered it.
Thanks again.

On eBay. Here is the link to the one I've bought: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-LCD-Dis...e_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item20e861f8ff
The same seller also has another one without the frame (http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-LCD-Dis...e_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item1c420c93d0) but the price difference is small and the one with the frame is easier to use.
I should receive mine today and I'll let you know my impressions after replacing the screen,
Replaced! And working!
Screen replacement done. Extremelly easy to do it and it is fully working. Screen quality is the same as the original.

I ordered a 1032/1033 screen & lcd via ebay and it fits the XT1039 perfectly - there's no difference whatsoever with the cabling.
its quite an easy job to do though even though the lcd on my moto g 4g wasnt damaged, i bought the glass & lcd already fitted together as it makes the job so much easier.
thanks for all the information it was very beneficial.
i have the exact same phone but u just want to replace the glass, will XT1036 etc. fit on my old LCD screen.

It will fit, but replacing only the glass is a much trickier task. There are some guys showing the process on youtube but you will see that it is not easy. The problem is that the glass is attached to the LCD with a strong glue and removing it without damaging the LCD is almost impossible.
I would not advice to do it yourself.
Just had a look at video tutorial for replacing glass and screen, its good to know that if i ever damage my screen it is quite an easy fix and pretty damn cheap

The site is unavailable from here (Europe/France). I found another one selling xt1032 (which someone in a post said is compatible) in USA http://www.fixez.com/motorola-moto-g-display-assembly-and-frame, but delivery time to Europe seems very long however if one don't want to spend more than half the price of the phone in order to get this part..
Will try a local phone repair shop tomorrow but am sceptic.
Hi there,
I have a question... I suggest that the screens are exactly the same (LTE and non-LTE versions) so I hope that there will be no problems if I'll try to repair my XT1039 with a XT1032 screen (In the description the seller on ebay says that its comaptible and moreover the screen is white coloured which means its for the 4G model).
My question is if anyone has experience with cheaper screens like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/351153277410?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
Do you think that it could be a fake one? Should I invest in a more expensive screen ? Because the links for screens here in this thread were usually approx. 40 dollars.
I'll be glad for any reactions regarding this problem.
Hello guys
I can confirm that 1032 lcd works on the 1039 model. I have ordered replacemenet lcd with frame for 1032 model and installed it on 1039. LCD is completly same, but frame required some small adjustment. There is small peace of plastic that had to be trimmed of, but it is not visible after assembly. I was easier for me than removing the frame from the LCD.
Hi guys , i want to know if this :
http://www.etradesupply.com/replacement-part-for-motorola-moto-g-front-housing-black.html
is comaptible with xt1039 4g version . I read your posts and i've seen that it might not be compatible .
Hi,
I successfully replaced a new screen to my phone. The only problem i have is that there is zone where the touch screen is not working (in bottom of the phone)
Is it a problem of the screen that i bough or an error in assembly?
Thanks for your help.
Hello, my son broke his Moto G LTE too. All works but display with black bubbles.
Any new suggestion about where to look for the replacement screen kit? I see that the original link appears as "ended". I contacted a repair shop here in Italy and would charge about 80 euros for the whole kit+work.
May I find anything around 30-40 euros in your opinion?
I found this for 34 us $:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-LCD-Dis...091d56&pid=100011&rk=3&rkt=10&sd=141337688319
but delivery time is quite long... anything with better speed for delivery to Italy?
Thanks in advance for input

I broke the screen on my XT1039 and got a replacement screen for the XT1032, because a lot of them said they were compatible with both so I assumed they all would be.
The screen works fine, except the screen itself is pushed away from the bezel along the left edge. Is that the same reason why you had to trim a piece of plastic from the frame?
Thanks if you can reply, I know this is an old thread

Note Edge N915S Screen Replacement Question

So I recently broke the screen to my phone and it was working fine but yesterday I started to get lines across the screen and cannot use anymore.
Figured its time to finally buy a replacement screen and I want the one already on the frame. I just can't seem to find one specific to the Korean models the 915 S/K/L.
Instead there are only ones for 915 P/T which is the American models. After looking between the 2 frames many many times I can only spot one difference between the two which is the positioning of the thermal tape right under the one for the CPU. All in all I think it should fit but still hesitant. Does anyone have experience replacing screens on the Edge who has any experience you could share with me.
The first picture is of the frame from my N915S and the second frame is for a listing I have been looking to buy which is for the N915P
Welp, I just tried my luck and ordered the part in and it fit everything without a problem.
For anyone in a similar situation for me it seems like the frames for this phone will fit with all models.

Replaced it myself, it's easier to buy the entire frame assembly + screen rather than just the screen as taking off the screen off the frame is a pain.
Also if you buy frame + screen you have a better chance at finding OEM parts rather than chinese knockoff.
Gotta warn you though the replacement for a screen costs more than some whole phones.
Something like this would be optimal: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Excellent-Bl...241748?hash=item4af43d5b94:g:VxkAAOSwT4lWThZa
Tutorial on how to swap over all the parts here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYEwEHRki_8
Mine is the Korean model the 915S and the frame I bought was for 915T and 915P but everything still fit so it shouldn't matter which model frame you buy.

Thanks I'll check it out. And yeah while the pricing is huge, this phone is a one of a kind phone. It still doesn't justify the pricing but I'll let it slide because of how much this phone has helped me out with the multi screen and its note taking features

That's the exact same reason why I wanted to get this fixed. I usually sell off phones before buying a new one but want to keep this around as the first curved phone I ever owned.
Also found out that the headphone jack needs to be replaced with the one that matches your motherboard. Was trying to get audio to work in my car for hours before finding out that the issue was on the phone haha
I have ordered this one
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Fast...90.html?spm=2114.13010208.99999999.274.5R2YVv
for a common dreaded problem of having vertical green lines appearing on LCD from nowhere (although my fault, it got it dropped on flat floor from my shoulder height a couple of times). In my case the green lines are appearing on the edge panel itself only, so the old LCD maybe useful for me to keep just for an emergency replacement as well.
Does this one looks ok, I mean any of the replacement LCD+Frame+Digitizer combo ordered from either ebay or china would rather be coming from only a handful or sources (resellers), and maybe only one or two manufacturers (who might be manufacturing it as OEM as well).
How was your experience with the replacement LCD, does it looks and feels just like original in screen clarity, colours and touch responsiveness.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

I bought mine with a cracked screen and replaced it myself. It was my first time repairing a smartphone and I followed the same instructions as the Youtube video linked above.
I found the process quite easy, luckily most of the components have screws and the video is easy to follow so I was done after 20 minutes. I can't compare with the previous screen by if I do a comparison with other phones we have at home (Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro, Nexus 6) the screen looks fantastic!

Screen damaged what should i do

My sister just broke her moto x pure.
The display works, however the digitizer do not works correctly. Cannot post pictures because the wallpaper is containing private information and i cannot change it.
She cannot use the entire screen.
For example on the lockscreen, she cannot use the 8. And the other digits works very badly. So she cannot unlock her phone.
What should I replace (screen, digitizer...) and where should I find the replacement part ?
Thank for your help
You'll need to replace both the digitizer + display as they come together. If you are good at repairing phones, you can get the display from eBay or else send your phone to service center if you don't. I would suggest you to send it to the service center.
You could use a USB OTG cable to connect a mouse and thus regain control of the device in order to clear any sensitive information prior to having someone fix it. I have bought and fixed several Moto X pure edition phones with cracked screens for family members. Most of them did alright, but one phone had the screen replaced, then a cow stepped on it. Although it didn't crack, after a while parts of the screen stopped responding to touch. The screen I replaced it with has not been damaged at all, but parts of it have stopped responding to touch as well. Sometimes I wonder if these phones don't have a particularly weak and easily damaged screen. I sometimes get my replacement screens from GadgetFix. If you fix it yourself make absolutely sure that you get a screen+frame assembly. It's just a few dollars more, and totally worth it. And be careful when you transfer the speaker grill trim to the new screen that you don't press hard enough to crack the screen.
Thanks you, I think I will change the screen and the frame.

Is this what I should buy ?
The screen that you posted does not include the frame. I briefly looked on eBay; you might find one with the frame included for a few dollars less than gadget fix, but for simplicity I just linked this one. On the back side of the display you will notice the screw inserts. That is what you need to look for.

Could you point me to a tutorial or a video explaining how to change the screen
I believe that Ifixit has a whole teardown tutorial for this phone. If not just search YouTube for (phone model) screen replacement, watch it a time or two, and then pause it while you do each individual step. If the first video you watch doesn't explain things in an understandable manner just watch another one. It's been a while since I searched for one, but I think there are at least a few good ones.

Cracked Screen

Hey everyone,
It's been a while since I last posted on here, and in attempting to avoid a pessimistic undertone, the G7 Power is actually a really good phone: the battery really does last for ages (I charge it once every two days, and it has never been below 40%), and it is surprisingly loud (everywhere). I am a pretty casual user now, rarely playing games or other media, but I am impressed with the difference compared to upgrading from a Moto G4. Some apps which appear as though they were designed for more premium screens - logos, icons, widgets - definitely lose some fidelity around the edges and these can look a bit poor on the 720p screen, but I have become oblivious (or distracted from) a lot of the finer details already.
And now the question: where, and how, would I be able to repair a cracked screen?
It feels like a pretty silly question; but the screen has 'developed' a crack from the bottom-right corner of the new notch, to about 2cm underneath the power button.
I say develop, as the phone is always within eyesight or kept in a pocket. It has never been dropped onto a surface harder than a pillow, and the case/screen protectors are still yet to arrive. It has been in my possession for about 12 days, and it lasted for 6/7 of those. I still have no clue when or why the crack appeared.
The question is a combination of where/when/how, I have contacted Motorola Technical Support, and explained the situation leading up to the cracked screen. The response was (exactly): "we do not process repair of the screen, what we offer is replacement of the whole device", they also said that this service will cost a fee (shipping + device) depending on the IMEI information. A single crack on the screen resulting in the replacement of a whole device seems pretty excessive, and the support member did not acknowledge that it is a brand new phone, or that it is* under warranty.
This is the first cracked screen from all previous handsets, so I am not sure what to do: is there any way to avoid replacing the whole device? How does this effect any warranty? What if I/whomever repairs the device creates other issues? When would services and replacement parts become available? XDA always has a someone whom is knowledgeable in these areas, and it would be great to hear some helpful advice from the community on how to proceed,
Thanks all,
MrSpuddy
(Also - the phone was bought directly from the Lenovo website - and I was hopeful that the "one free screen replacement" still worked)

Please see the teardown video here: https://forums.androidcentral.com/m...-power-xt1955-disassembly-teardown-video.html
I repair a lot of phones as a hobby. And phone that are assembled front to back are hard as hell to fix. You have to remove pretty much everything to get to the screen. Contrast that with something like the Pixel phone where the screen is connected last. You just have to pry up the screen and unplug the cable. Fixing the screen on the Moto G7 may not be worth it.
My recommendation is to use your phone as long as you can and then buy a new one. Hopefully by then it will not be as expensive as it is now. I know, it is not much of a solution...

The solution provided by the company was just to buy a new phone; which was not very helpful at all. My collection of screen protectors arrived, and the one on the phone is a lot more robust than the original screen.
Thank you for providing the video.
These screens are very easy to replace... Multiple times...
I have the moto g7 and I have replaced the screen four times, and I'm getting another screen in the mail this weekend, because this *[email protected]_-HJN' SUCKS DONKEY WHATEVER. I like the phone, but for some reason, the screen doesn't like to stay in one piece. All you need is a hair dryer and a new screen. Amazon has them. But you have to watch out; there are counterfeits out there. Buy from two different vendors, and return the counterfeit. Here's how to tell: make sure the printing on the ribbon cable is the same as the one you're replacing. Make sure that the printing on the back plate is the same as the original. You won't know until you take the screen off, which replacement is legit. But it's just one connector and some glue. Way easy, or mail it to me and I'll fix it.
