Hi all,
Been searching these forums for the past 3 hours and trying numerous options and still haven't been able to fix my problem.
Long story short, dropped S6 in water, turned off and left in rice bag for 2 weeks.
Tried to turn on today and it only boots to download mode, everything else just reboots the phone. Also it will only turn on when connected to USB so i'm guessing the battery is dead also.
My main concern is I have photos that I really want to try and recover and yes I know I know, always have a backup, as a desktop technician I really should have had that setup on my phone but here we are.
So my main target is to somehow get into recovery mode and then use ADB to pull files from the phone.
I've tried to flash many different recovery files but they always fail in Odin v3.10.7, log for Odin is:

I don't want to flash stock firmware cause I'm guessing that will wipe the phone and photos?
Any help would be appreciated!

A long time ago my s2 got stuck in download mode after getting wet, back then it was caused by some corrosion in the usb port. I fixed it by trying to scrape it clean with a usb cable, you could also try isopropylalcohol (even let it soak in there for a few days)
btw the s2 continued working up until this day (a friend now has it)

I heard of this isopropylalcohol, so just fill a jar and drop phone in for few days? And then back in rice?
Spent 2 weeks drying the thing out, kind of worried to attempt this.
But as I've nothing to lose!

I think isopropyl alcohol doesn't conduct, so no short circuits and no need to dry but from my experience with keyboards which got wet and not dried properly those thin contacts and flex cables are very prone to just corroding through and through.

So here is the rundown. I flashed GC 1.9RC2.3 and was getting some force closes. Tried Data/Factory Reset and that still didn't fix the issues. So now I'm trying to reflash GC 1.9 FE to restart over and ODIN has been stuck on cp_modem.bin for the past 20 minutes.

Are you using the PDA button? Did you reinsert the battery after Odin recognized your phone?
sounds like slow USB connection...try another usb port.. preferably a rear port...the modem does take a bit to flash and progress shows on device for modem
Yes I am using PDA and I have been using ODIN since my Vibrant and never had to take the battery out to flash. As far as moving the USB to a different port, if I cancel out the install right now will I be perma-bricked?
Update: So I switched USB ports and it flashed pretty quickly. I guess the port on the front wasn't cutting it.
let it go if the staus bar is moving on your device...otherwise you dont really have a choice but to turn Odin off and start over...but I guess 'YES" you can brick your device

Yeah I was nervous as hell to stop the download. I just closed ODIN out first and then took out the battery. Crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. I'm glad it went through the second time because I would've been pissed if I had to send my phone off.
The only time I've seen bricks is when something happens in odin to interrupt the flashing of boot.bin

Thanks for the knowledge. Hey Hazard I noticed your name in the credits of GC 1.9RC2.3 when I flash it. Could you check out my other question regarding the G-Talk app and any suggestions you have about it would be great.
hello
I have the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 in 8013 16 GO there, exactly.
I intallé anderoid jelly bean 4.1.1 OTA and did not finish the tablet and restart nonstop. I started handling but nothing goes as planned, ODIN said fail Action! and my tablet is in download mode. And when I reboot I have a small andriod man with the percentage bar with the screen that pops by gray bars. suddenly I think I scrub the tablet and I do not really know what
thank you in advance for helping me because odin know my tablet (the tablet comes into download mode and not in recovry mode) it may not complete the installation with the following message:

Re download factory rom and flash again in odin.. . You can also go in the recovery and clear cache and so on.. This will often stop a boot look . But it looks like you have a bad d/load
I'd agree with that.
I find it best to download the roms from Sammobile as they generally provide an MD5 sum you can check to make sure its not a bad download. Especially when using ODIN 4.03/07... ODIN 4.03 does the check before it flashes and ODIN 4.07 checks when the .tar file is selected.
temp
how temp for odin finish their installation
I think it's hang on: "<ID:0/006> NAND Write Start!! "

odin did not finish the installation process about 2 hours and even post thank you for helping me
You need to download the rom again to see if it's not a corrupted copy. Use a PC to download it from sammobile.com.
If the flash file you are using is corrupt you can flash it til this century ends and it won't work...
If it still doesn't get past nand write then I believe you may need a pit file to repartition your internal memory. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS OPERATION. Make sure you have the correct pit file and if possible get it with an MD5 checksum so you know there is nothing wrong with the downloaded file. It MUST be for your device or bricking may occur, it MUST not be corrupted or bricking will occur.
Good luck and remember, you have been warned...
My Galaxy S6 recently took a dip in a lake and would not turn on. After trying to displace the water with 91% isopropyl alcohol and I tried to power on again, but no LEDs and would not bootup still. I disassembled the phone and tried cleaning the board with a toothbrush and alcohol to clean any corrosion and hope that my attempts to turn it on did not permanently damage any components. After the cleaning the LEDs turn on, but the screen seems to be damaged beyond repair.
At this point salvaging the phone is not a priority, some very important and irreplaceable pictures that were not yet backed-up are my only concern. Another XDA user suggested trying to install a custom recovery but ODIN keeps failing. I cannot tell you what the S6 screen is showing of course, even putting it into download mode is a bit of a chore.
I am trying to install TWRP on a SM-G920P with ODIN 3.10.7

Did you by chance have USB debugging enabled? If so, boot phone normally, and use 'adb pull' commands to retrieve what you want.

Sorry, forgot to mention that debugging has not been enabled. Is there anyway to force USB debugging?

you are trying to install a old android version your bootloader have 3. security patch so you have to install a 3th security firmware please try a newer firmware or try smart switch maybe it works
I tried the smart switch emergency repair and after loading successfully it's reboots and stay in the logo screen
I'm trying to install TWRP onto my Samsung Galaxy S8+ but when I try to flash the .tar file using Odin, I am receiving an error.

How do I fix this?
You know, I went for a number of days getting Odin errors on two phones, an S7 and S7 Edge, couldn't figure it out, tried everything I and others/other posts, Youtube could think of...
then I read a suggestion it might be the USB cable.
It was a brand new cable, but I swapped it out and BAM, no more errors.
Good luck
I had an similar problem.
You have to install the right BL (Bootloader) and CP (Modem)
Just keep trying the last ones you had and sometime it will work. BL and CP have to be the same Version...
Just a hint...
lienot
Try another usb cable and/or another usb port ???
... and have you found a solution?
I have the same problem. I thought maybe there might be something wrong with my cable. So I borrowed my brother's which is completely undamage and still had the same problem. This is how I got into this mess!....
Used comsy and official Odin.
1. Phone out of the box
2. Flashed HD3
3. Flashed QD9 modem and tmo user data
Since then I haven't been able to flash anything.
I had the same issue for S7 ATT. Read thread, changed USB port, reinstalled USB drivers and done. It worked just fine.
I am trying everything and still receiving AUTH fail
I have an S7 Edge Anything else I can try? Thank you
