It is possible to unroot without working USB port? (burned) - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Hi,
I went to an event and used for the first time ever these generic chargers with multiple cables. Guess what? in 2 seconds it burned the USB port of my HTC one m8 =(
I have it rooted, S-off etc etc
It is still under warranty. My question: is it possible to unroot etc without a working USB? btw, without power too, my battery is dead :good: :crying:
Thanks!!

Unroot yes. Lock boot loader yes. Turn s on yes.....
edit.. just noticed the without power part... . nope.. what i sent you via pm will only work if you get it powered. Sorry.
Just call HTC and tell them it won't turn on.

Thanks dottat for the links, but yeah, unfortunately it will not be possible to unroot
I saw somewhere that if you send it to HTC they will "need" to change also the motherboard if it is S-off, with a $400 price tag =(
I will try to find a neighborhood repair shop around here in Boston

As long as it didn't affect the mainboard, the USB flex cable is only $14 shipped. Make sure you get the 32g version with the correct number of rf connectors.

Do i need to take it apart and like force the thingy inside it, i think its the internal SD or something please help, i feel so retarded. HOW TO UNBRICK VZW SGS III!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't think the jig will help here. Sounds like you'll need JTAG. Its about 60, but you gitta send your phone off for repair.

Yeah EdwardPace, use that link to MobileTechVideos for a Jtag. I also pulled a noob move and had to get mine repaired. Took about a week but my phone is back and in perfect working order. Sounds kind of expensive but compared to having to buy a 600 dollar replacement, it's well worth it.

When I went out to take a look at this site, notice the have a USB jig for sale. Does this bypass the need for ODIN?

No, it will not bypass the need for Odin. All it bypasses is the need to hold vol down+home while powering on.

I doubt it.
I would PM Adam since they basically tore apart a S3 while working on unlocking the bootloader. If anyone has it, he should.

Maybe. I doubt he checked pinouts of the charger port.

So how can I change the motherboard? Need help with disassemble

I tried to Google for pictures or video guide on how to change the main board - did not find a thing. Can someone here post a video or pictures which will show how to do it and which tools will I need? My new board is on the way and I need to be ready for it.
Back cover is clipped on. Put a finger nail between the glass and the plastic and CAREFULLY split them. Be particularly careful around openings. Once the cover is off, there is a copper heat sync that is held on by adhesive to 3 chips. Pull it off. Then you'll need a very small Phillips screwdriver, and some patience to unplug everything and unscrew the board. All-in-all, not too hard...just take your time.

Read through this thread; look at post # 87 for details. Remember to switch off the motherboard prior to doing anything. See p. 15 of this thread. Remember: easy does it. Good luck, but above all, have fun.
Thanks! It should arrive today. Hope it will work
Ok, changed the main-board, I have a new working tablet! Not unlocked or rooted Its running 4.2.1. Anyway to root it without unlocking?

May I ask why you had to change your mainboard? Just posted a new thread in Q&A but I"m pretty sure it's a hardware issue . Where did you get the main-board? And how much did it cost??

A good idea would also be to completely discharge the tablet before prying it apart. This is just to be safe of touching wires.

[Q] About JTAG Repair

Hey guys...
I was unfortunate enough to come across some aroma/twrp bug while updating my kernel and now my phone is bricked. Oh well, life happens. I am going to have to send it in for JTAG repair. I found that mobiletechvideos.com does JTAG repair for $60 so that's not all terrible. Do any of you have experience with them? Is there service good? From what I can tell they look legit..
On their website they also also have numerous "addons" you can choose for your order such as "ROM/Root upgrade service" and "S-off". Now, does that mean that once I get the phone back it will be in a state where I cannot root the device? I have my old bootloader unlock code from before... would that work to root the phone after this procedure is performed? It is my understanding that they (mobile tech videos) modify whatever image they push to your phone to include your IMEI information. Would that give me troubles if I tried to unlock the phone using my old unlock code?
Perhaps I should email them directly.
Anyway, what are your thoughts?
I would ask them, but I believe they can set things up however you want. I recall seeing one person saying they got it back s-off, etc.

Scroll down and you'll see a huge list of devices supported by the one box. More devices added with firmware updates to the box. Ships from the uk as there is no distributor on this side of the oceans. afaik
But there are distributers on this side. Madusa riff boxes will do the same thing. The JTag site has a list of suppliers that sell riff boxes in the US. Since more devices are becoming usb supported, the need for soldering is limited to certain devices.

does JTAG'ing void the warranty as they have to open up the phone? I haven't looked in depth at videos of people opening up the phone but I can only imagine that they ahve some stickers inside...
If not, I'd definitely send my phone to them if it meant I could get S-OFF even though I'm on JB

I imagine it voids the warranty. But then again, unlocking the bootloader and rooting your phone could also void the warranty...
Thanks Venomtester, I guess I'll start packing up my phone then.
I used mobiletechvideos to fix my HBOOT and S-OFF and they did a fantastic job on both. I would recommend them to anyone looking for that service.

[Q] Thinking about buying a bricked Nexus 5, need help!

I contacted somebody on craigslist about a nexus 5. He said it was running cyanogenmod 11 and he said that he didn't like it and was going to put it back to stock. He then messages me saying that something went wrong and that the phone is bricked. I ask him a few questions.. Is the bootloader unlocked, was usb debugging checked before it was bricked, can you get into recovery. He said yes to all of them. He then tells me that he was using nexus root toolkit. But run parallels on his Mac. So the commands are never the same. So the question I have do you think that it's fixable before I go and buy it. He was selling it for 250 but after the brick i told him I would buy it for 200.
If he has used a toolkit not meant for the Nexus 5, there's a good chance that his bootloader and other partitions might have got corrupted. Since he's telling you that he can get into recovery, why doesn't he just flash CM11 which might take him out of the bootloop? Sounds fishy.
Besides that, you know there won't be any warranty for this, right??
If I were you, I would stay away from such a deal. It's your call though.
If it turns on in one way or another it's hardly "bricked" lol.
How much is a digitizer worth? If it's truly bricked that's all that it would be worth to sell it as parts. I might risk it for $100

Yeah I knew that there wouldn't be a warranty for this, I don't think any of my last few phones had a warranty so I am not worried about that. I have a few hours to decide.

Personally I would just buy a brand new one off Google, no risk of "bricked" (lol) phones from other people, and it's not too much more (in comparison to other devices). Plus you get warranty :silly:

Once you could do that your good to go:good:
Could be radio bricked. Could be a bargain. Could be a risk.. Getting into recovery is no sure fire way to say it's repairable.
Whats USB debugging got to do with anything ?

You could meet him somewhere with WiFi, like Starbucks. Then try to flash a stock Rom and see if everything on the phone works. If it were me I'd just buy a new one tho.

Yea most likely I am going to head to swappa.
It could have other issues. What if its black listed, and he tried to brick it so no one can test it.
What if it turns on, but it got water damage and something else is wrong.
What if there's a hardware failure for sound or radio or anything.
Can't test much in the state its in. I say you're basically gambling.

I tried to unbrick it. I unbricked it. It's working flawlessly, checked the ESN on swappa and it's not blacklisted. It was a risky gamble but it did work out. Thanks for all the help on here.
