ok i pulled a noob move and went to flash the wrong rom on my gs3, i got the error 7 msg which im pretty sure means its a rom for a different model, prolly i900 or whatever but i didnt reflash my old rom like an idiot and clicked reboot phone, BOOM hard brick! when i take the battery out and plug it in to my computer my LED notification comes on RED but other than that its a pretty paper weight. it will not turn on for anything tried all button combos im thinking i can buy a little usb jig from ebay, but i dont know if it will help me. Do i need to take it apart and like force the thingy inside it, i think its the internal SD or something please help, i feel so retarded. HOW TO UNBRICK VZW SGS III!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't think the jig will help here. Sounds like you'll need JTAG. Its about 60, but you gitta send your phone off for repair.

Yeah EdwardPace, use that link to MobileTechVideos for a Jtag. I also pulled a noob move and had to get mine repaired. Took about a week but my phone is back and in perfect working order. Sounds kind of expensive but compared to having to buy a 600 dollar replacement, it's well worth it.

No, it will not bypass the need for Odin. All it bypasses is the need to hold vol down+home while powering on.

Sigh, please use that search bar on the top right of the website....
Sorry to say I did this to my first s3 by accident. Nothing u can do unless u can get it into download mode. Which the only way you can do that with a hard brick is by using a jig. Google galaxy s3 jig. U can buy one cheap or watch a YouTube video on how to make one for around $2. But other than that ur only option is to turn it into the phone insurance or maybe Verizon will jtag it for u. U can Google jtag as well. That's all the help I have for u. Good luck!!!!!

You're a paperweight, no jig will help you. Take to vzw and play stupid or ship it back to samsung, they'll fix it under warrenty. If you're modest and are willing to pay to get it fixed i reccomend http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-jtag-brick-repair/ --best brick repair around. I never said a jig would work. I Personally just returned mine for a new one at best buy. I just saw online about people using a jig to force it into download mode. I was just throwing out ideas. No need to be rude. And I also mentioned jtag.

Dont see how I was being rude. I was just trying to stop him from spending 2 days making a jig for nothing. And u told him to "google it". if the op knew how to use Google, he probably wouldn't be here asking a question that's been answered 1000 times already. So I provided a link. And u mentioned verizon jtaging it. They dont do that. Not to mention, even if they did, a tad stupid to have them do it if u ask me.

Let me guess... flashed an international ROM? If you can't get into download mode then send it to mobile tech videos for jtag service. Please don't take it back to Verizon. You're only solidifying their decision to lock bootloaders by not owning up to your own mistakes.
I also highly recommend mobile tech for fixing hard bricks. Only $60 and they had fast turnaround. Handy for when you've stupidly (speaking from personal experience here) flashed something you shouldn't have.
What all do you have to send to them? Do they need your usb cord?

Yea I know, make fun of me. Tonight I was trying to install CM 9.0 for my i727.
I already had Clockwork and Odin installed, everything was working 100%
I decided to follow TeamChopsticks guide to get there.
Unfortunately CM was not installing after I did the "Format /system (mounts and storage->format /system)" step and I decided to take matters into my own hands.
I went into Odin hoping to just flash CM. I then saw that the only option was "PIT" and naive, stupid, tired me decided to do it.
I mean what could go wrong. I had titanium backup and everything.
Turns out I probably reformatted my internal mem to something my i727 can not use. Yay...
Now my phone won't go into download mode, it wont boot, actually it wont do anything.
I've spent the last 3 hours reading online on what to do. To my avail I found nothing. (I found QPST but it won't let me add "COM4" which my phone is on, so it's useless)
My phone is recognized by the computer as "QHSUSB_DLOAD" and Odin used to have it in COM4.
I really don't want to send my phone anywhere, I've had it since Christmas so it's not the newest, and upgrading to a SGSIII would be an option.
What should I do? What CAN I do?
Hopeless college guy here. =/

Ouch, that's hard luck man. Not gonna rub it in man. You know exactly what you did and why it happened, and I genuinely feel for you there.
Like vincom said, take it to AT&T and tell them you don't know why it won't boot. They'll probably refer you to Sammy if you're outside of a month with no insurance. Best chance you've got short of JTAG.

The guys are right, im afraid. Back in my newish days (heck i still am new) something similiar happened to me. Im on Rogers in Canada, and I told them it happened while upgrading through kies. They shipped me a refurbished model for 35 bucks, so hopefully ATT is as benevolent.
FYI this one had a faulty usb port and they were out of refurbs, so they just sent me a brand new one (second replacement). So follow your dreams, I guess. : D

If the device is still under warranty, no problem. Otherwise no matter what you say the retail AT&T reps are sort of clueless around Android and won't offer any steps to try. I just picked up my Skyrocket on Friday and want to go slowly haha I soft bricked my Captivate way back in 2010 so I understand how it feels.

I recently flashed a new CM10 kernel called LeanKernel. At least I tried to, it did not install all the way and after I rebooted my phone did not turn on did not respond to anything. If anyone can help me that would be great. I am not to sure whether to call this a soft or a hard brick. I can't get to CWM and/or download mode. Plugging it in to my computer doesn't help it spams my computer with a format message. I don't know what to do and I appreciate any help anyone can give me.
I also forgot to say that I tried to charge it but nothing shows up on screen i dont know if it even charges. But my battery was at 65% before me phone stopped booting.
Thanks in advance.

Either way, why not send it in for warranty repair/replacement? I've got the Note 2 on pre-order and am keeping my Skyrocket, because the Note 2 is an entirely different beast.
If you're going to keep the Skyrocket (whether you get the Note 2 or not), why not warranty it? If you're going to sell the Skyrocket, you'd probably want to make sure it works before you put it on eBay, right? If you're going to throw your $600, one-year-old Skyrocket in the trash without even trying to save it, go ahead and mail it to me instead! lol

I wouldn't ever throw something like that away. Especially since I know that its hard bricked, but nothing is wrong with the hardware. I will probably go through with the warranty, and use my old crappy iPhone :crying: until my Note II comes if I get it.
If so, do you have any idea how much it will cost? The phone was rooted so I'm fairly certain it's not covered by any warranty.
before you do anything of that nature, what is going on, please explain what happened in as much detail as possible, screenshots would be very helpful. i have"bricked" my infuse countless times, and i've still got it running and working great right now, never had to pay for anyone to fix it or anything, as far as i can tell the infuse is pretty much unbrickable.. so if you would like i would like to try and help you out so you may not have to pay to fix something that may not be broke

Just wanted to update everyone here. I was very honest and upfront with the woman I started my trouble ticket with and told her right from the start that I had rooted my phone and caused my own problems. Well I got an email today from Samsung stating that my phone had been re-flashed and was being shipped back to me today by UPS. All I paid for this service was $2.46 for a box and shipping materials at my local UPS outlet. There was no charge for re-flash or shipping! I will always buy Samsung!!!!! :good:
Now to decide what to do since I now have two working Samsung phones on Straight Talk. LOL! Should I reactivate the infuse with it's currently inactive Straight Talk sim card or just use it for my Google Voice phone number and keep my new phone for network calls...
thats great, really surprised samsung didnt make you pay...
I'm surprised also... quite a deal.
How long from when you sent it out until when you got it back? (just curious).

I haven't actually gotten it back yet. I shipped it out on Monday, They got it on Wednesday and Thursday I got the email saying it was shipped back in my direction. I expect it by Saturday at this rate! Also, I called Straight Talk and apparently I can reactivate my Straight Talk SIM card in it with no extra charge since activated a replacement phone before sending it off and I pay for the unlimited plan. All I'll need is a new number for it since the replacement phone has my existing number and I'll have two working Samsung phones for the price of one phone plan. (I still think the Straight Talk representative was full of caca in that regards. LOL! I'll believe it when I see it!) :silly: Life can NOT be that good or I've just entered the Twilight Zone!

Thanks to op. As a result of this thread, we all learned another option for recovering from inevitable (if you flash) soft brick. Glad I could help! :silly: And really upfront honesty when talking to the person who's creating your trouble ticket with humility and self effacing deprecation is recommended! I was a twat for breaking my warranty and I admitted it and they fixed it. Even if I had had to pay a little for the repairs, it would have been worth it! I have my better camera (With an actual Flash) and GPS device back now! FYI - In case anyone is wondering about the Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy Centura camera, it is only 3 Mega Pixels and has no flash!

If you were having a good day I would highly recommend Zen's [GBRUCLB3] []>>>>> r.e.v.e.n.a.n.t <<<<< First Edition - 2013.04.30OM][
The only thing required to flash it would be to flash one of Zen's rooted kernel with cwm red recovery using either Odin or One of Qkster's Heimdall one clicks http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23118162&postcount=3
I contacted somebody on craigslist about a nexus 5. He said it was running cyanogenmod 11 and he said that he didn't like it and was going to put it back to stock. He then messages me saying that something went wrong and that the phone is bricked. I ask him a few questions.. Is the bootloader unlocked, was usb debugging checked before it was bricked, can you get into recovery. He said yes to all of them. He then tells me that he was using nexus root toolkit. But run parallels on his Mac. So the commands are never the same. So the question I have do you think that it's fixable before I go and buy it. He was selling it for 250 but after the brick i told him I would buy it for 200.
If he has used a toolkit not meant for the Nexus 5, there's a good chance that his bootloader and other partitions might have got corrupted. Since he's telling you that he can get into recovery, why doesn't he just flash CM11 which might take him out of the bootloop? Sounds fishy.
Besides that, you know there won't be any warranty for this, right??
If I were you, I would stay away from such a deal. It's your call though.
If it turns on in one way or another it's hardly "bricked" lol.
How much is a digitizer worth? If it's truly bricked that's all that it would be worth to sell it as parts. I might risk it for $100

Personally I would just buy a brand new one off Google, no risk of "bricked" (lol) phones from other people, and it's not too much more (in comparison to other devices). Plus you get warranty :silly:

Yeah that is what I am thinking, if I can get into recovery I gotta be able to un "brick" it. What I am going to do is make sure I can get into recovery before I buy it.

Once you could do that your good to go:good:
Could be radio bricked. Could be a bargain. Could be a risk.. Getting into recovery is no sure fire way to say it's repairable.
Whats USB debugging got to do with anything ?

I have no idea! I was reading up on unbricking Nexus 5 and they all kept saying make sure USB debugging was checked. Like yous aid. Could be a bargain, could be a risk. I am still debating on buying it.
You could meet him somewhere with WiFi, like Starbucks. Then try to flash a stock Rom and see if everything on the phone works. If it were me I'd just buy a new one tho.

Yea most likely I am going to head to swappa.
It could have other issues. What if its black listed, and he tried to brick it so no one can test it.
What if it turns on, but it got water damage and something else is wrong.
What if there's a hardware failure for sound or radio or anything.
Can't test much in the state its in. I say you're basically gambling.

100 more buys you a perfectly working one.
So I took the gamble and decided to meet the guy.. He worked at AT&T, met him at his store, that was a plus and not in some alley lol. I had my laptop with me and after I bought it. I tried to unbrick it. I unbricked it. It's working flawlessly, checked the ESN on swappa and it's not blacklisted. It was a risky gamble but it did work out. Thanks for all the help on here.
Cool! ?
@kidnice15

Its not an "unbrick" if it wasn't really "bricked" in the first place!
