Project Fi - Samsung Gear S2

Has anyone with Project Fi tried out the gear s2?
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk

I had a Galaxy S6 edge+ with the gear S2, and I just switched over to Project Fi on a Nexus 6P.
Changing to Project Fi from T-Mobile has had no effect on the use of my gear S2, but it does have some reduced functionality now that I'm using it with my new 6P. I use hangouts on my phone and PC for SMS via Project Fi, but incoming texts don't register with the gear in its default messaging app. So I get hangouts notifications on the gear, but I can't reply to them from the watch. This is kind of a deal breaker for me since messaging is really the only thing I used the gear for besides S-Health.
I'm really loving Project Fi and my new Nexus so far, so I'm thinking about selling the gear and getting a Moto 360 or something else now.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Thanks...that stinks about hangouts... Deal breaker for me as well.

I've been able to reply to hangouts. Have you tried downloading the Android wear app? From what I understand, is that as long as the app exists in your phone, you should be able to

But they still dont register in the watch messaging app, which sucks

The Android Wear app for what? The S2 watch doesn't use Android Wear.
Thanks!

It is an odd work around, but the Android Wear app actually is required for the Hangouts to function correctly on the Gear S2

IF your smartwatch was paired with another Android before, then you will have to reset the smartwatch before it can be paired with the new Android the way to do this can be found in your smartwatch instruction leaflet or you can look it up on the Sony SmartWatch website. Just as a helpful bit information, as far as I know the way to reset the smartwatch is to find that little tiny hole and put a small piece of metal like and uncoated paperclip or a sewing needle into that hole which will press a button inside the hole and that will reset the smartwatch. I have talked to some users that have had to do this even when the smartwatch was not previously connected to any Android, which I believe has to do with the way they quality test their hardware at the factory. I hope this has been helpful for you.

also, you must have an app called Smartconnect installed on your Android before it will ever even recognize that the smart watch exists.

[Q] Text or SMS on P-900 WiFi over Hotspot?

What is it? I have a Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Wi-Fi only edition.
What do you want to do with it? I want my wife to be able to text to and receive SMS/MMS messages on the Note.
Where do you need this to happen? Anywhere in the USA, whether over Wi-Fi or 4GLTE through the hotspot.
We have an AT&T Unite Pro hotspot for her to use to connect when not in a Wi-Fi zone. It has its own phone number- not sure if this is needed for this.
I'm wiling to pay a small fee (<$10) for a good app, but if there is a free one that would be even better.
She has a flip phone for calls. I assume it has Bluetooth capability but I am not looking to use the phone at all in this exercise. I want my daughter to be able to send a text/sms/mms to her mother from her iPhone and the Note to receive it whether on home Wi-Fi or hotspot.
Any helpful suggestions would be great. She does not use any Google services so I do not want to rope her into a Google Voice account if I can avoid it. Thanks!
Well Google voice is free. There is no "roping in" you just sign up and pick a phone number.
Look into "whatsapp" to see if fits your needs. It allows messaging to all sorts devices. Its free for a year then .99 after that.
But as far as I know. The only way to send sms messages on a WiFi device is using the Google voice app. You can even make WiFi calls to cell phones with a GV number and an app.

I'm looking for something that is as transparent as possible to both sides, not something that must be downloaded by everyone who wants to communicate.
I use MightyText from the Playstore. 100% free. You install MightyText on your phone, then the tablet companion app on your 12.2. Works perfectly for me on my Nexus 5.

As was stated earlier Google Voice is your best bet. I used it on my Motorola Xoom when my work phone would not allow text. You only have to install it on the tablet. As far as anyone else knows it is just another phone number that they send texts to or receive from. It works great.

S beam is for transfer between samsung phones. S = Samsung. Has nothing to do with tap and pay. S beam uses nfc them transfer the file through wifi, has nothing to do with tap n pay.

Notifications history? Only last message?

Hi, i own also a Gear S and if i swipe right i have old notifications (whatsapp, gmail, etc.) and i can read them again, in Gear S3 when i read it on the phone it disappear from watch and it's impossible to read it again; for me it's a step back....
Another (for me) big issue is this: if a guy send me for example this text on whatsapp:
"Hi andre"
"see you at 7"
"at usual place"
in my watch i can only see "at usual place" but i miss 2 previous messages..... when i can see him?
Ok i must open whatsapp on smartphone but watch loose his utility...
(sorry for my english, i hope u understand what i mean)
I have exactly the same annoying problem. Only the last message is kept in the Gear 3. This is a huge step back. I have browsed the internet but have not yet found a solution. What you want is being able to read back ALL new messages of whatsapp!
I made an app to address this exact issue. The name of the app is Whats History. You can find it in the gear store. There's a demo video on that page as well
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wow, that is great thank you! But does it still work after the most recent Tizen update on the S3? Please let me know and I will try your app as it seems to be a good solution!

I can view all of my messages on the watch - go to settings -> messages

If you reply to a message, from the notification, it drops you into the entire conversation.

Yhank you! I am very much looking forward to that, as history threads tend to get extremely lengthy.
But where are they stored now on the phone/app, because there must be some way to find and then delete them manually? Any timeframe for this addition.
Again, app works like a charm, but this is a bit inconvenient! Thanks a million!

All entries are stored in a database that you cannot access unless you have rooted your phone. Only 50 messages are stored per contact though... I will try to update this feature right after Christmas.

And when I remove the app, will the history (imagine 100 contacts times 50 messages...) be deleted as well or remain on the phone?

Can Gear S3 show phone state of charge?

I can use the Gear App on my S7 Edge to see the watch battery state. Can I use the watch to see the phone battery state?
After all, the phone is usually on my wrist, where I can see the watch battery level. The phone is in a zipped up pocket, often under a heavy waxed jacket.
I use the Glympse app on the S7 to broadcast my location when walking "off-piste" in forests. If the phone battery gets low, I can switch Glympse into low energy mode, but that means fishing around in my outdoor gear to get to the phone in a zipped up trouser pocket.

Ah... I love the default watch face on the S3, and wouldn't want to change it. I first saw it on an advertisement on the back of the Christmas edition of the New Scientist magazine. I almost bought an S3 on the spot. (but had to wait a few weeks for funds)
Perhaps I need an app on the S7 to send audible warnings as the battery level drops.
There are dozens of watch faces that show the phone's battery state.

It's a little self defeating if the watch faces depletes my battery while I'm looking to see if I need to worry about my battery state.
Ah, but perhaps it's the watch battery that gets depleted?
I think I'll just get used to looking at the phone, but in the meantime I've installed Battery Notifier Pro on the phone so I get notifications when the battery is down to 25%
I just need to see if I can get the notifications from Battery Notifier Pro to show/sound on the watch.

Watchmaster is still under review in Samsung Store so the only way to load it on the phone is by building the Watchmaker app in Tizen Studio and pushing it to the phone, all in all a small pain in the butt. I've noticed that on any of the Watchmaster faces my watch face usage is over 30% of my battery usage. There are many more faces available than with Facer but at a cost. I've found the best all around way to get faces is on Google+ in the Watch Face Pros community. All those are GWD faces easily loaded with Gear Watch Designer.

You will need a Samsung Account ID to get an author and distributor certificate before you can build one of the downloaded watch faces. Both certificates can be obtained from with GWD and are free. Make sure you use a password for the certificates you can remember because you need it entered into GWD when you build a project. You can also copy the two certificates into the GWD directory to make it easier for GWD to find them.
After you get those, just download a watch face, change the extension of the downloaded face from .zip to .gwd, load the project in GWD, build it, and run it on the phone, all from within GWD. There are pretty good directions online. Also remember to have your watch wifi set to always on and debugging turned on in the watch. If you don't do that, then GWD can't find the watch.
EDIT
LOL, forget everything I said when mentioning Watchmaster, I meant Watchmaker. My auto correct was changing it every time and I didn't notice.
