CM 12.1 osprey Snapshot - battery draning faster than stock ROM, Please help. - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I have moto g 3rd gen 2015. I just installed cm 12.1 osprey snapshot ROM yesterday(cm-12.1-20151117-SNAPSHOT-YOG7DAO1K2-osprey.zip).
I noticed that my battery is draining faster than before while everything before and now are same ..I mean apps.
After charging 100%, battery going down to 94% within 2 to 3 minutes. Only wifi is on. Rest is off...
Can anyone please help me? I love CM 12.1 customization. Dont want to go back to stock ROM
And I want to know if I install kernel blu spark, will it help me to get better battery life?

same problem with nighties too :/

My CPU runs about 10-12 degrees C hotter too. There are many ways to limit battery drain, just have to search for them.
Sent from my Virgin Mobile CDMA Moto G3

I charged my phone 100% then turned it on and kept it without touching it. after 18 minutes it has lost 1% battery ! Didn't even touch it (((( No apps were in use because I use Greenify!

No Hotplugging
I used to have the same problem with CM kernel. Turned out when I checked the kernel using kernel auditor, there seems to be no CPU hotplugging features which accounts for the batter drain and the high temps. Try using blue sparks kernel. Its MUCH better for battery and temps.

Thanks for your reply. I installed blue sparks kernel but battery is still getting drained ! I installed kernel auditor and I see CPU hotplugging is disabled. Should I enbale it without making any change in details?

Yeah shouldn't be disabled in the first place

I'm on the 11/18 nightly and have battery comparable, if not better, than stock. No custom kernels. Bluetooth and wireless always on. GPS always on, device only. Standby excellent. Always used delta gapps. I deny Google data access on what I can (history, location, ect), but let sync on contacts, calendar, keep, ect. No greenify or anything like that. Email sync on auto push.
My use today at 12 hrs (730am-745pm) is 1.5hr screen on time auto brightness and slider in middle, 2 hrs playing audio through bluetooth, in an area with no cell signal for about 4hrs, maybe 30-45 mins talk time between Bluetooth and handset. Still have 75% battery left.
Edit: just checked my wife's phone (on factory firmware), unplugged for about 7 hrs. She has 1 hr 40 min screen on time and down to 77%. Not sure about usage, she might have been streaming videos or something.

1.5hr SOT - I must be doing something..

Hey there,
So I've had my Nexus 5 for quite some time now and tried a few different ROMs and Kernel combinations. I care a LOT about battery life but this device has never really kept up to what others are saying it's capable of.
ROM: OmniROM latest nightly
Kernel: Faux123 Kernel v013
I'm currently getting around 1.5 hours of screen on time of use with no 'battery saving' apps, no greenify, location reporting on. The only setting I've changed is make GPS set to battery saving. Is this normal? Android OS takes up 30% of the battery stats. I have also attempted a full factory reset and built it from scratch (not restoring any backups) with no change.
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks!
use better battery stats and give us that info.

1) Set screen brightness manually.
2) Turn location reporting to high accuracy or device only, or even off.
3) Don't agree to Google location reporting.
4) Turn off Wifi background scanning (Settings, Wifi, Menu->Advanced, Scanning always Available unchecked)
5) I find Wi-Fi optimization off may or may not help.
6) Make sure you get good signal strength. If you need to, downgrade to 3g (EVDO, not HSPA) if Sprint from LTE if the signal is better, or even 2g (edge, not 1x) if T-Mobile.
7) Disable unnecessary syncing for your accounts (Google Play ...).
you bought the wrong phone if you care allot about battery life.
Though what your getting is abnormal, im easily able to get 4 hours screen on time with heavy use
First - disable location reporting (leave location on. I do)
Download this - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice
And make Google play services look like this -

Your battery drain is certainly anomalous. I leave everything on all the time and average 22 hrs up with 5 hrs SOT. As @Zepius said, you need BBS logs to be able to troubleshoot.
Using that disabling app and using common sense you can also scrap off the location calling of other apps that really don't need it -

Thanks for the help guys but I haven't had much better luck, I didn't get a screenshot but today it lasted 9 hours with 1 hour screen on time.. there's definitely something wrong and even after a factory reset it's still not improving.
After running BBS today I got two that showed up as potential culprits.
bam_dmux_wakelock and wlan_rx_wake. Neither of these are linked to a specific app though.
Maybe time to call Google? I went through 4 Nexus 4 devices because of various issues.. maybe I need a second Nexus 5.

go with stock rom, stock kernel, and minimal apps for the day and see if there's a difference.

Certain routers or network settings can destroy batteries on wifi also. Kinda sounds like that's what your wakelocks could be from.
But yeah....before talking exchange or repair....you really need to reflash a clean stock version.....no installed apps and see how it is. If its an app or a router/network issue, the next phone will be the same.

Battery Drain on XNPH33R

I updated to XNPH33R this morning with a completely fresh install, and have noticed that there is still a significant amount of battery drain for Android OS and not so much, but Android System too.
The only non-stock apps I have installed, are WhatsApp, Spotify, Dropbox, Evernote, Mailbox, Reddit Sync and Titanium Backup.
Like I said, it's a completely new install, so I don't have a battery monitoring app, as I didn't think it would be necessary just yet!

I know my signal looks quite bad, but I have only been on my normal commute, and it isn't normally that bad... has the radio update made my signal worse?
You could just download Battery Monitor Widget and check the standby drain.
The fact is that the standby drain with the latest OTA is between 18-30 ma, which is higher than it should.
With the cm11 nightly releases from these week there is a 6-10ma drain in the same circumstances.
Of course double tap to wake + gestures enabled.
So the drain problem is still here.
The problem occur also with franco r14 kernel, which means there is something wrong with the system files, not the kernel.

Change the monitor option to reverse mA.
Then enable monitoring, set it for 1 minute.
Leave the phone for 5 minutes and check the history file.
Clean install
TRY clean installing wipe everything and install it again ive been experiencing GREAT BATTERY LIFE. Its been on standby for like 2 hours and still at 100% on the 30o it would go down like 3-5% in the same amount of time
I'm using M9 with Franco r14.
These results show 5mA/h. I think these are good results in airplane mode.

I got 10 hours at 100%. With cm11 nightly. Wifi and mobile data off.
About the program, you need to press on the history until you got ma reading, not percent per hour.

See you sure it isn't Google Play Services hogging your battery? It shows up as Android OS in the battery stats sometimes. Try the fix in my signature.
Transmitted via Bacon
I agree Google Play services does do that sometimes. I have solved this on my phone by simply clearing cache and then going into Google Play Services then click on Manage Space then scroll down to the bottom and Clear All Data and see how it goes from there
OP. You're not the only one that experienced the increased drain.
I opened yet another Jira bug report due to this drain.
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-838
Here is my results. It's consistent as well.
The proximity sensor issue is fixed since I used a camera to double check. Will sleep on it tonight to see if the drain is poor again...
I dirty flashed the zip from android police.
BTW there is also a new radio how's everyone finding that?
The multi touch seems to be mostly fixed. I get issues when my fingers are too close together but it can detect 10 fingers without problems now... Before it had issues detecting 2-3...
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app
I also observe 18-20mA battery usage on 33R vs 7-10mA on 25R.
So they fixed something, but not everything for sure on CM11S.

[Xperia Z3 D6603][5.0.2] battery life issues

Xperia Z3 D6603, stock ROM, non rooted, locked bootloader, Android 5.0.2, build 23.1.A.0.690.
Hello all, I have a huge problem with my Z3. I mean, battery life issues.
As you can see on the 2 pics, my device is running out of battery too quickly, and it heat up even for simple tasks!

That's not normal.. it sucks. Will switch to LG G4 as soon as available.
how much of that was screen time using the battery?
About 3 or 4 hours max.. but I use it time to time. Wi-Fi and sometimes mobile data on cellular network.
Don't understand why the battery drain is so fast.
Stamina mode doesn't change a thing. Almost always on manual low brightness and I have to use my power bank (external battery) when I'm away.

I have the exact same issues, the phone was going very strong for the first 6 months (7-8 hrs SoT) and then it all went bad (3-4 hrs Max). I've tried MANY things and the issue seems to be **mainly** with Android OS and System (especially with mobile networks "staying active").
What kind of worked for me is:
Turn off "double tap to wake screen"
Delete any 3rd party alarm apps (clearly helped)
Turn off "Google Location History" in Google settings
Check for stuck sync
After doing all of this i got about +2hrs screen on time, but it all went bad again (even with them still off)... So I'm interested in your feedback and others' answers!
I'll try that. I assume Timely is a 3r party alarm apps?
Check out this pic.. battery discharging during the night and lost more than 20% by using it one hour (simple web browsing and stuff). I'm starting to hate this phone.
By the way, congrats for your 1st post

Yes I think we have the exact same problem, my phone discharges about 2-3% on airplane mode through the night. And as you said, my normal use means that I lose 10% to every 30 minutes of screen (under normal conditions).
Yes I mean Timely! it drained the battery on my phone and only showed up as a problem on Gsam and wakelock detector! i wouldn't have known otherwise, its disguised as Android OS or System!
Its very disappointing given that it was working very well before!
Stuck with the same problem.. and they boast about Xperia Z3 amazing battery life.. that device sucks. Switching to LG G4 as soon as available. Sony disappointed me, they failed me.
I use Timely to wake up because this app is well designed and I love the smart rise feature.
That said, Android says OS and screen process drains battery the most.

I think you should first try what I suggested for a day or two and see the results, should be an improvement, though I don't know how much...
I used timely for exactly the same thing, but as all google products these days, it drains the battery I'm really dissapointed with Google more than Sony, I have the same problems on all my lollipop devices (2 nexuses). Nothing Sony can do about it...
With flastool you can go back to KitKat if Lollipop doesn't perform good for you.
I have good experience with the .77 Version and still have a backup of it in twrp.
You have a very weak signal (the red color) which is draining battery.
Android OS is the Kernel.
Use better battery stats which is free here from xda.
Also check app permissions of your installed apps.
And a calibration of the battery may help.
With full auto brightness and mixed 3G/wifi browsing and listening to music via Bluetooth or headset I have 6h Display on in 2 or 3days on Lollipop.
But prerooted / debloated / tweaked Rom .690 with good signal.
I know the signal is bad and is a cause I'm my case. I was living in Germany for a few months and got around 7h over 2 days, it halved when I moved back to jordan. However it's still getting worse, noticeably since I turned off and uninstalled many things (it got better for 2 days *6hr and then went back to bad *3-4hr). But still the point is why buy a smartphone if you have to turn off everything just to get it through the day. The problem is that you get the feeling that no matter what you do with the phone it still drains (which looks like a system or app issue because it does even when I'm only using Wi-Fi or even 3/4g on full signal)...
Well there is no magic button to improve the battery life.
Yes there is, Airplane Mode.

Help finding/fixing idle battery drain

Hi my wife bought a Note 5 two days ago (9/30). She did all setup, app restoring, etc that evening and fully charged the phone overnight. However her phone is experiencing idle drain that I need some help fixing.
Some other info: battery saver modes are off, wifi is always on (but only connected at home), bluetooth is always off.
10/1: Arrived at work with 100% battery
A little over 4 hours later, with light use, the phone was at 51% with less that 45 mins SOT

With facebook as the biggest offender I suggested she turn off the setting of pre-loading pics and videos.
When she got home she charged phone to 100%. I also changed mobile network to CDMA/LTE. Here's how the battery looked with light use before going to bed:
10/2 - Left the phone unplugged over night to see what would happen, it lost 12% sitting on the nightstand for 8 hours.
Will report back later this afternoon to see how the day is progressing.
First step for me in reducing battery drain was to disable the Facebook app. It is a battery hog and was always at the top of my list. Instead, use a browser and create a shortcut to facebook.com or install Metal from the Play Store which is a web wrapper for Facebook and so much lighter. Sometimes I still get strange battery drain from Android system (up to 35% sometimes!). But this usually gets resolved just by opening up recent apps and closing all.
Hmm, I don't have problems with Facebook app on my droid turbo

Some people want notifications.
Regardless, Facebook doesn't seem to be showing up at the top afte the setting change. I'm interested to see what she has this afternoon. Will have some updates screen shots later on. I also asked her to charge ~3pm then drive home with nav on to see what the battery looks like under heavy usage.
I need to dig into Android System to see what's going on there, any ideas? Will GSAM pro give more insight here?
Not looking good, 22% used in 2.5 hours with 20min SOT

I lied, facebook setting is "play videos automatically", I have to assume turning this off will save data/battery. Also Instagram has "use less data" setting. I thought I read that this stops pre-loading of videos/images, but I might have imagined that?
Anyway, for facebook setting hit the menu button next to the notifications icon then scroll to "App Settings" near the bottom of the screen.
After most of a work day and light use she's down to 58%. Looks like facebook is back up there, odd because it's not a problem on my phone.
Does anyone know how to troubleshoot why Android System is using so much battery?
I have a note 4 and I'm having similar issue ls

You guys have to also take in consideration the Lollipop total connection time bug. Apps open up a connection and it won't close it when it's done... For example my first charge cycle I signed into instagram and it used 40% of my battery without me ever open again. The total connection time of most apps ends up being hours when it shouldn't be. That won't be fixed untill Marshmallow comes to the Note 5. Google is aware and has fixed it. It's on multiple Lollipop devices.

Mine seems to die by every morning if I don't charge it over night

I use greenify to hibernate apps but still some thing is going on but marshmallow is coming out soon so I am happy

Yea I've used that for a while. When I force stop an app I tend to not see it encounter that bug

If the device is rooted then you can try Greenify to hibernate the apps which are consuming the battery life.Try other simple solutions like disabling the Wifi and other tools when not using them.Sometimes Play services may cause the issue so try to fix them. There are some guides which may help you http://fixdroidbattery.net/fix-fast-battery-drain-problem-on-samsung-galaxy-note-5/

The problem is ...because of the device used to be root although we flash original stock firmware it is still drain when device idle ...you can take a look in Android OS and see stay awake period ...one way is flash custom room that said deep sleep fix . Hope this comment could deal your problem

Marshmallow 6. 0 wifi battery drain bug, it's not actually draining

So I am back to the stock rom and recovery and the wifi drain bug is back. :'(
Though I noticed the CPU's runtime stays roughly the same at 22 seconds, the computed power use is 536 mah but there is no actual showing of power use and my screen on time in my lowest brightness + adaptive brightness setup is Still giving me a good near 10 hours SoT of constant use.
This means that the wifi battery drain bug is. Not actual drain, but it's just a bug that shows it like that. Notice how nobody actually has reduced battery life because of this? Those percentages the bug shows are a lot but nobody has less SoT because of it.

Same here. Android System keeps my phone awaken all the time, even if screen is off.
I never noticed this bug. Do you mean when you wifi is switched off its still showing like it was on all the time in the battery stats?
The only bug I noticed is the mobile signal drain when using dual sim roms on my single sim device.

Since it's not draining your battery I shouldn't worry to much. You could try clean dalvik and cache and if that doesn't help try a factory reset or reflash the whole rom.
The wifi IS draining my battery
Kept the phone overnight, dozed properly, but still lost 11% in 7 hours!
Wifi is eating it all up

Wifi is main issue with marshmallow

I still have no problems with wifi draining though, I mean, look at the time it was actually on, if it was seconds, it really isn't draining, computed power use isn't actually what it drained.
I even went back to stock, updated all the way to 6.0.1, 2 days ago, same reporting bug is back but no actual drain.
Disable location scanning, and search for Wi-Fi on the background. After reset and the Wi-Fi status on the graph should stop. At least this is what I do, after using the maps or tinder, or other location app
I fixed the battery drain due to wifi
Go to settings, backup and restore
Reset the network settings, reboot the device and charge it to 100%
No more wifi eating battery
