Using the Pure XL naked - Blu Pure XL

The phone, not me.
Using the Pure XL without a case -- getting the full premium experience, or an accident waiting to happen?
Previously my phones were all in TPU cases and screen protector since day one. For the Pure XL, I've been rocking it raw for 2 weeks, and I really like how everything feels tactilely.
It feels really solid and premium in the hand, especially with the cold metal edges, and the super clear and black AMOLED screen without a protector.
Can I rely on the Gorilla Glass to do its job reasonably? Anyone who rock their phones naked can chime in?

I used to have the original Moto G, which used, if i'm not mistaken, Gorilla Glass 3. I never actually put a case on it and it remained unharmed for 3 years, even though i dropped it quite a few times. It never actually broke, i just sold it when i upgraded to my new phone (which has no gorilla glass, thus it has a case). That said, the Pure XL is a fair bit thinner than the original Moto G, so I'm not sure if it has the same level of sturdiness. Hope this helps!

I've used mine for a couple months now without a case, and I've had no problems. I have dropped it a few times, but I never used a case for my previous phone, the Nexus 4, either, and didn't break that. As always, no warranty is implied, and your mileage may vary. ; )

Screen protector that works well for HOX, especially on the edges

The ones I have tried are the "dry" application type and because of the way the screen is curved it seems to peel up on the edges constantly, and having a case on just worsens the situation. Do the wet application protectors work better? Like Invisible shield? What have you guys foound that works well and stay putt especially on the sides?
My Zagg is working great. I have the front and back covered with it. No peeling at all and really nice.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I have the AT&T Branded Dry Application one.
It doesn't cover the sides so it doesn't peel up. However the small side bezel is not protected. It covers everything else though.
I got 6 of them for $12 at the AT&T store since the guy applying it screwed up
Also this should be in the Accessories section...

No, mine isn't the Zagg one. Its an AT&T branded one, that AT&T manufactures.
Skinomi all the way. Same material as Zagg actually. Just cheaper in terms of price + life time warranty.
thanks guys, that gives me a couple good choices to choose from!
And ye sI realized this should be in accessories after I posted it lol, oops
Use XO Skin.... really good... Covers the full screen... as good as nothing is there.. I got the full body protector... workes really well...
I tried Skinomi before two times ... but it was never good... had the orange peel effect...
Really? Cause they are not known to cause that. I know Zagg is. All my device have Skinomi.

I just put the XOSkin on mine and I really really like it. Very easy to put on, is totally invisible and covers the whole screen. Since it covers the entire screen, you literally cannot tell there is a protector on it. Absolutely no bubbles, bumps or streaks. Easily the best I've ever used.
Would any of you who have either the XOSkin or the Skinomi be able to tell me if the full body skin covers the glossy sides of the body? I've seen some that only come up to the lip of the matte and not all the way around, so I am trying to figure if either of these do. Thanks!
Sorry, mine is screen only.
Xoskin full body doesn't protect glossy sides

Didn't like the AT&T one because it was anti glare or something . Not completely clear. The new dry zagg is ok. If you use any case that overlaps the glass it will lift the zagg up. My favorite was the one that came with my nillken. Left a little area on the edge of the glass unprotected so all of my cases worked fine.
Have always used "bestskinsever" on all my devices. So much cheaper than the others and quality is great.
Used Skninomi and wasn't too impressed. I used this eBay seller before getting a screen protector for my GS II Skyrocket. They are selling a three-pack for less than $2 and the quality is awesome

Try phantomskinz, I have it on mine and its matte. Give a very nice touch. It covers everything except all the ports and camera

I've got the Zagg HD on the front and the Zagg standard on the back. It's a great combination. Even though it doesn't cover the entire glass section of the phone it's still completely invisible, no orange peel, and works great with cases. Honestly I feel that this setup with a case is better than any other method of protection for this phone.

The screen protector is remarkably easy to pop out. I also used some duct tape to remove the residual adhesive left over off the inside of the plastic frame. After that you are free to use any screen protector you like.

I think it's common knowledge by now that GG is susceptible to thin, shallow hairline scratches. Scratch-resistant does not mean scratch-proof

GG2 was just an improvement on it's structural strength, meaning they can make them thinner. It's still the same material, and Corning states that it just "maintains" its durability though being thinner, not that it's any more resistant to scratches.
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/news/press-releases/corning-unveils-new-gorilla®-glass-2
But whatever man, to each his own. You do whatever you want with your phone. I just think it's misleading to tell everyone that the glass is indestructible when it's not.
Also, keys really can't scratch any modern glass used on smartphones. Here's a video of the Galaxy Nexus (which does not have GG) and the key doesn't do anything either.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPco1NzLgZ8
The "hammer" demo is pretty cool though.
yuk!
That is most certainly the ugliest phone case i have ever seen. most of these cases make the streamline HTC devices look like pieces of crap. I'm certain that HTC didn't work on slimming down the device so you can bulk it up again by inserting it into that ugly block of rubbery ****.
no case, no screen protector.
I run a "phone pocket" , i just choose a pants or shirt pocket, and the which ever one i put it in, the phone rides solo, no keys, no coins, co cards .. just the phone. That keeps it sweet and it still looks premo.
Yeah but it's good protection from dropping it and possible other way of damaging it

Screen Protector?

Just wondering if you use one or not on the GS3. My first GS3 didn't have one on it, and it magically gained 3 large scratches in the screen (always was left in a pocket alone, nothing else). I had one on my 2nd GS3, but I am now on my 3rd (2nd one had dead pixels) and wondering if I should just rough it out without one, or get one again.
Also if you got one, where from, and how do you like it?
Thanks
I got one from my bro so i dont know what brand it is. But i can tell you it came in a pack of like 3 and it sucks. Rainbow affect ruins the screens potential. Look like its kinda snowy and the feel isnt nice

After looking at this, I think I will buy some. Thanks for the recommendation!
Screen protectors are more trouble than their worth in almost all cases. If you manage to get it on without putting absolutely hideous bubbles on the screen, then you'll be left with something that just makes the screen "rainbowy" and terrible looking. Second skin doesn't do this but then it makes the screen rubbery and grippy feeling, not smooth like it should be. Protectors also seem to enhance fingerprints making them highly visible. Scratches? I wouldn't worry too much about that with gorilla glass 2 - http://youtu.be/wT8xI4PEU8c

I've used the SGP Ultra Nanos and don't like them. Within a month quite a lot had peeled away from the phone. I think this is going to be an issue with all thin film protectors that the industry seems to prefer with this model (slightly curved display surface).
I purchased an XGear Spectre and really like it. It's a tempered glass surface. Very easy to mount and hasn't peeled or scratched despite subjecting it to the same rigors as my previous SGP Ultra Nano. Nor do I expect it to peel in the future because it's pretty think (0.4 mm) and rigid. Apparently it's think enough that it doesn't fit all cases (I don't use a case). The field of view is essentially unaffected and the glass has excellent optics. At $35 with shipping, it's definitely more of than investment than thin film protectors, but I consider it a good value given the advantages.
I got the ones from samsung at the verizion store when i got my phone (the first day they had them or second)
The dude put on the first one for me and still looks great barley tell its there and its custom fit to phone
Price tag is 14 bucks but he gave it to me and it did go on very nicely no bubbles or discoloring
I don't use one, I'm just careful not to put anything in the same pocket that could scratch it
Same I use the one from the Verizon store 12 bucks, it didn't effect the viewing, it's a dry install and almost no bubbles when done, and you get 3.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
I put on 20 of the verizon ones everyday. Done correctly there are no bubbles, no lint and hold up well. Seeing all the hideous home jobs applications, the glossy texture of zags and the anti glare versions I can see why they get a bad rap.
I wouldn't go without one.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
yeah, i've got a plain clear verizon one on mine.....actually it was the Cellet Screen Guard..just took it from my store. i put a million on a day, too, so i'm really good at it. i never ever get bubbles or dust. just gotta know how to do it!
also, you guys getting the grainy and rainbow effects, it's because you're using anti-glare protectors. they suck. the clear ones are better.

Caseless and Happy
I've had my GS4 caseless since I got it just over two weeks ago, it's still in great condition. I generally don't like using a case on my phones, (I never used a case on my GS2 before this one) as I don't like the look and bulk that it adds, no screen protector either, I'm still amazed by how well Gorilla glass resists scratching, the screen on my GS2 still looks brand new, despite never having a screen protector on it.
Case less all the way, with a screen protector..prob don't neet it but I'm anal like that. Oh and changed the back to a metal one. Gives the phone a "heavier" feel.
Naked with a ArmorSuit Miltary shield screen protector and Seidio spring-clip hoster.
I am thinking of getting the metal back too. they look cool and seem to add weight to the back so the phone might be more likely to fall on the back in the event of a drop.
Im caseless and screen protector less, my phone flung off my lap when i got outta the car the othet day, cartwheeled on asphalt and only left a nick in the bottom right of bezel. No cracks thank god..
I think i may have a few light scratches, may get one of those fancy glass screen protectors everyone's been raving about

Not I. I had my Galaxy S II caseless without a screen protector and it held pretty well... That thing was pretty solid.
I was watching all the drop tests, and seeing how easy Gorilla Glass III actually cracks; even seeing on here where it cracked in peoples pants??? Seeing that this is a bigger device, somewhat harder to hold in my hands, and definitely a lot more slippery than the SII, I do not want to take a chance on the $649.99 device. I also like leaving the device laying flat down on a surface(still getting used to air gestures, but the notification air gesture is cool); but one of the first things to touch the surface while laying flat is the camera lens which bothered me. I also have AT&T insurance but after seeing this case, it made my choice...
Spigen Neo Hybrid Case (Satin Silver)
edit* funny I had a dream last night that I actually cracked my S4. In the dream, it felt so real and that feeling of the cracked screen just really brings you down (sorry guys for the ones who did), but when I woke up, I was so relieved...

I prefer a leather pouch. Will get the Spigen one for 29.99. Has always done well for me and allows me to "use" phone with no case.
I am getting 2 32gb S4's tonight. My son still wants a case to use and keeps phone in pocket while at work. Does bending, stocking. Doesn't want case while using the phone, like me. But, doesn't want pouch. Is there a hard case that easily comes off then back on. Looked at many web sites and videos. Seems once they are on, they are not designed to be popping on and off--
OP: Based on my research, I would get some kinda case for the phone. I don't think this one will fair as well as my One S and Blackberries when dropped--
I roll caseless with my S4 and HTC One, both with Ghost Armor front and back.

If I get a case its going to be that exact one. It really is a nice looking case imo. does it add much bulk? doesnt look like it in the pics.
I sometimes dream about my phone too. makes me feel a bit obsessed lol.
I went caseless until I noticed the metal camera ring got all scratched up. Luckily I found a dead pixel on the display and was able to exchange it because of that.
With the premier discount on my account, I picked up the decent Case Mate clear case from the AT&T for 35% off. It works and the camera ring is still shiny with love.

[Q] Using it Naked

I asked multiple times in the Nexus 5 General > [Poll] Naked or Protected? Thread
there seems to be no response and most of the people in there are naked for temporary while their case comes in, what i'm wondering if the matte finish or the feel of the plastic back/bezel will not flake or fade after an extensive use of the device being naked.

Fully agree, until you drop it , then you wished you had used a case.
Naked for me at all times, including no screen protector. Phone is always in my pocket where ever I go, and still looks completely new. I think if you're careful with your phone (don't put anything else in the same pocket, don't slide it across a table, and keep it away from grains of sand or grit), then it should stay looking new for a long time to come.
I actually use dbrand skins. Naked size and shape but slightly protected edges

100% naked for me 100% of the time. every android phone since the very beginning(2008) has been kept naked by me. ive dropped my n5 a few times(not hard), and no damage. the screen and body are still 100% perfect here as well, like brand new. i keep it in my back pocket most the time. if not, then its in a jacket pocket.
I have a case but no screen protector. I hate screen protectors. They always end up looking awful. My last phone (HTC Amaze) I kept naked, but that thing was a tank. The N5 is the first phone that I have purchased off contract so I'm protecting my investment with a Cruzerlite case.
To the OP, I suggest that whether or not the back wears would depend more on how the phone is cared for by the user than anything else. Some people will manage to keep their phone looking pristine without a case, while others will not.

Yep, same here. All of my devices have always been naked. Hell, I have a brand new roocase for the N7, why I don't really know!
I use the neo hybrid case and tempered glass screen protector. I wish I could have it naked but I don't have a replacement available.
I use the original Diztronic TPU case with no screen protector. Considering my N5 has already been dropped twice, once by my wife (about 3ft drop onto concrete) and another by my son (about 5.5ft drop onto tile as I was picking him up), I am more than glad I decided on a case. Surprisingly, for as thin as this case is, there is no visible damage AT ALL. I think I'm just extremely lucky. I thought for sure it was a goner after such a high fall. I've always gone naked with all my previous phones, but something was telling me I should get a case for my N5 right away.
I bought a case because of the lens size. No need to worry about this lens without any protection?
Most of the time my phone is in my pocket or on my desk.
I WANT to use it without a case, but am not willing to risk it in case it gets dropped. I use a caseology case from amazon. Its nice but adds considerable bulk even though its one of the slimmer cases on the market.
