[Q][Bugs] Finger print issues ?! - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI guys I bought my z5 about one week ago.. The phone is super fine and fast but the only thing that I found is that the finger print sensor is super " SUCKS ", why am I saying this?
- Cause I can't unlock my device -using fingerprint print- without out getting try again message for two or three times! I tried to reinstall my prints about three times and same thing! Sometimes the phone doesn't even notice my finger, I don't know the cause of these but after restarting it, returns to read my prints again.
Anyone else facing these issues (Slow Identify on your print) or it is just me?

i did have some struggles in the beginning, but here are 3 tips:
-your finger and the scanner must be dry for best results
-move your finger around a lot while registrating your print
-register multiple fingerprints of the same finger!
keeping these three things in mind made a world of difference for me

Will after a few weeks of using it.. I finally started to know how it is working.. Just install your prints as just touching the sensor very soft, don't push your finger on it.. I did it and it is working fine now.

Have z5 for month now. Can confirm, piece of ****. Already tried tons of solutions, nothing really helps. And this position isn't great for that rectangular shape either.

I've had it for 1 week and can confirm it's amazing.very fast and >85% accuracy. The shape works great and the sensor is smart enough that changing the direction of my finger still registers correctly as long as the same area is read. So far I like it much better then the S6 finger print reader.

Is there any production time or something? We need to determine maybe if some parts are broken.
And does your key needs to be pushed so heavily to turn up phone? For mine, it's about 4 times harder than volume keys

Not so much harder for the power button, but since the button is flush and pressing it makes it recessed it feels harder to push.
Mine is an E6683 Rev 2 I believe. The only problem I have, and it's really cosmetic more then anything is the power button sometimes slides a bit down. Looks weird but doesn't generally effect usage.

I haven't got such problems with sliding. It just hard to push.
As you can see I've got 6653 REV 2 I believe, too.

Yeah, mines bit hard to push, except some angles. Straight on is easy. The sliding doesn't effect function so it's not a big deal to me.
If you can (not sure where you live) try to test a few store phones for button push.

make sure your hand and your finger scanner is clean.

In my case its different, i found that the fingerprint scanner location is amazing and it really works instantly ( when its not acting up)
By acting up i mean that smtimes it will vibrate 4 times and saying not clear fingerprint, even if i just press the power button using my nail it will still quickly vibrate to indicate that its working but it doesnt, am not sure if this somehow to the tempered glass sheet i installed on the screen.
Well i finally gave up n turned off this function

I agree with the others, you need to register the print at different angles when you set it up. Because if you only register it from one angle, it will only work that way.
Did you have to root to change the bottom navigation buttons? If not, how did you do it? I'm curious.

Well, the problem could be solved a little bit by adding more fingers to scan availability. Then I will scan exactly every angle of my finger.
Tap Tap Tapatalk - Sony Xperia Z5 E6653

Maybe i wasnt clear, the finger print will vibrate that it read bad finger print even though my finger is not touching the scanner ( yes i have multiple fingerprints saved and the scanner is clean )
Its having some kind of interference i guess or mine is simply broken

Well u have Sony theming engine inside your system just hold on empty space in your Xperia home and chose themes and press the market button on the top of your screen.. the theme that I was using in that screenshot was " Noir " theme

I also see this issue.
I setup my phone with different angles, no pressure on the button. It worked amazing for half a year. I recently updated to Android 6.0, also after the update everything was fine and awesome. Usually unlock works right away, only wett or fatty fingers do not work which is fine and clear to me.
However since I had other issues I did a factory reset and after that everything is messed up with unlocking. I belief I need to redo the factory reset or repair. From what I have read that could help and is some sort of lottery if everything works. One needs to do a repair or factory reset as often until everything works fine.
Similarly I had the issue with bluetooth, after some resets it worked all of a suddon.
Essentially factory resets seems to change stuff that could have made issues before. Seems to be a living thing an xperia phone.
Hope someone will find a better way

for an waterproof rated phone, i would or do hope fingerprint works better even with wet fingers though. it has rarely worked for me. like 5% of the time at most due to my sweaty hands. I do wish i could disable the vibration, could i? Fingerprint scanner is currently disabled but the phone keeps buzzing when i have my finger near the button.

Please help me with Spen problem with writing glitch...

I know I posted before about an issue I had with the pen pressure that I forced me to replace the pen. Now I am having another problem... this time with random 'wiggly lines' coming off my letters when I am writing. I take a lot of notes so this is an issue... my other pen didn't do this (and is now no longer working)

I notice it's sometimes better if I am using it a bit, but obvoiusly prevents me from writing quickly and getting anything done. It's like I have to go back and erase and have to write slower....
Has anyone else has this issue? This is just so frustrating since this is my second spen... without any sort of diagnostic tool on these devices, it's hard to tell what the problem could be
Yes, I've adjusted sensitivity underneath the switch.
Yes, I've changed the nib.
No, I am not using a case with a magnet.
Anyone?
I noticed when trying my husband's Note II pen, it did the same thing, but not nearly as much. (My pen just seems more sensitive than his in general). It seems to be a lag/software issue. It doesn't do it as often in layerPaint... it seems to happen a lot more in S-note. I turned off airview and other things like that to try to see if it made some difference... it is really really annoying.
I'm not sure, but it seems to have started since the Jelly Bean update. I'm tempted to try another ROM.

Sounds exactly like all you need to do is calibrate your pen. It's a very easy DIY job. Search on xda and you will find a guide

I've done a lot of searching already and I can't find what you're talking about. I already know about lifting the side-switch and adjusting sensitivity if that is what you mean... I mentioned that in the OP.
I've read about the touching every edge of the screen for automatic calibration (this was in a Note 1 forum). I've even reset my tablet completely to try to fix this issue and it still persists...
I noticed also the pointer "hops" around as I am using it. I've noticed this and it's not only distracting, but it could mean the sensor is not staying where it should?... it's acting like a calibration issue, but how do you this calibrate this? I've disabling everything that could possibly cause lag as well...
Edit: in response to OP:
I get this too! It has to be some kind of velocity setting that causes it... drives me a bit bonkers sometimes. Seems if im writing quickly i notice it more. As if the pen setting is overly sensitive to me whipping it around.

I too get this and am quite frustrated, but I believe it is because of my screen protector.
I believe you may find there's a calibration app in the themes and apps forum. I believe it was being developed but may be a paid app. Might be an idea to look there....

Hmm, so the old pen didn't do this? Mine does it too and it's getting rather annoying while drawing. Been wondering if it's just a normal thing I'll have to deal with... but what you said gives me hope. Did you send the SPen back by itself to get a replacement or did you have to buy a new one?
Also does anyone know if the Bamboo Stylus' do this at all?

Yes, and I've tried many many pens... the one that this is I bought at Best Buy as a replacement... so yes, I paid for another pen I should not have had to pay money for, but I didn't care and needed it working. Trust me, I've put a lot of experimentation into what seems like is becoming a project now. To me, the experience is so variable. Each pen is different. You get a pen that defaults this pressure, another that defaults that... my OEM pen did not become sensitive enough and it was impossible even with adjustment. Then you have people who can get it so sensitive, they can write on the display merely by floating the pointer close enough...
I'm happy with the tablet otherwise. It's just so frustrating. Wacom product support and their pens are usually good technology, but Samsung did not think this through on the software end when they didn't even think to add a calibration utility or some kind of diagnostic panel that at least tells us what pressure is being applied, the XY coordinates, nothing... it's just not helpful when you're having these kinds of problems. It's an expensive device, there should be some kind of support for this sort of problem... I called for some help with warranty and they told me I would have to send the whole tablet in... which is silly.

I found a tool that gives you the kind of information you're talking about inside the Developer Options -> Input -> Show pointer location. "Screen overlay showing current touch data." When I turned it on I got a nice status bar a the top that tells you your location on the screen and it also has a pressure meter. It may not be exactly what you're talking about but I figured I'd point it out.

Moto G, bad screen. :/

Like almost everyone, I had to wait 3 weeks for my moto g to come in, and when it finally did...one week later I had to send it back for repair. :/
The screen was really bad in certain areas, mainly the top 1/2 inch all the way across and the bottom left corner, about a thumb size portion of the screen. When ever I would view a picture in FB or IG, watch a movie or pictures from my gallery, if there was a bright spot "bright white" in particular, it would display yellow pixels or lines in just that area.
It had no problem rendering colors, just bright white. Like a light bulb, sky, snow things like that in any sort of media, pics, videos or apps. I used the screen overlay in the developers option to show the areas that have problems with rendering and sure enough the areas I mentioned before show up with an overlay of red to show that those parts of the screen do indeed have problems.
I don't know how this problem passed quality control. Maybe because they where so backed up with orders, they wanted to get them out asap. I dont know, but now im out a phone for at least a week maybe more.
thankfully they paid for shipping both ways. lets just hope they dont send my phone back saying there is nothing wrong with it. Just thought I'd share my story in case anyone else had the same problem. Thanxs.

I've seen this problem on 3 MotoGs'. The lower left corner brightness can be slightly fixed by unscrewing a little the corresponding screw inside the case. Apparently not all people notice this. And another problem, the earspeaker is buzzing on high volume when the other party is talking, to a certain degree, on all units I've checked.

The phenomenon of death often arise during use, due to component quality has decreased over time. In theory, could not overcome, or limit the phenomenon of dead spots appear on the screen. However, in many cases you can restore the dead center for a massage by screen. How do fairly simple, you need to remove the cover, protective glass screen that can be exposed directly to the screen. Now, remember the dead pixel position, then turn off the phone. Use your fingers lightly rubbing the area dead center, then press and hold the power on the phone. Wait for the screen to light up and slowly drop your finger off the screen. Make a couple of times so constantly, that pixel can be recovered.

This is the same problem I have. I've returned one unit back to the seller and now I have this on the new one they've sent as a replacement. As if some shade of white has a problem and then turns into yellow. Also some icons (e.g blue google icon) display a green line over them (blue and yellow mix?) i You will notice this the best when there is a lot of black color on the display (e.g. applications menu). Try swiping the application menu pages slowly and see how this yellowness comes and goes. I'm giving up on Moto G because of this.
Just send that one back as well. Don't blame the phone as a whole because you got unlucky twice. My friend had to send his back too and they just gave him a new one.

I'm not blaming the phone. I still think it's a great deal. But two times is enough for me to realize that less money means less quality. They obviously didn't reduce the price by kicking out the charger and the earphones.

I had the same problem with my first device, but so far so good on the second one.
In india they are shipping it with charger nd headphones...makes you wonder hmm
So I found out that my Moto G had the same issue. I didn't do anything about it, I thought it was a software bug. But when the same bug was on CM, I realized it's my device. It got pretty frustrating to see all these yellow spots on perfectly white displays. The good news is that I managed to fix it.
In case anyone else has this same problem, I recommend that you send it back if possible. If not, here's a solution that worked for me
1. Install this : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.haxor
2. Set it to 80%
There will be absolutely no more of these annoying yellow patches anymore. I guarantee it.
I, too, have seen this issue. In the brightest highlights of white, yellow replaces white. My best guess is that this is a sign of a failing GPU or video memory. It is either a hardware issue or a very low-level software issue. It is definitely not the normal behavior for the Moto G. The workaround by Vedarshi will allow you not to see the yellow, but also lowers the maximum brightness available to you, so it is not a true solution. For those who have seen this problem, has it always been on receipt of the devices or has this shown up over time for anyone?
It's been there from day 1. I personally do not feel that my screen looks dim. It is still readable, even in sunlight.
Me too have the same prob.

Hello guys , i too have to the same issue, right from the 1st day. today i received the fone and heres the stuff. The phone has some problem with the shades of white. and it appears Yellow while swiping. heres some screen shots of my Moto G.
Have a look at some of the White Pics with the yellow color effect. !!
I'm sorry but, why complain on here? Send it back to your retailer. They have to either offer to repair..( iwouldnt personally go for a repair job with screens cause it can be 10000 things causing it and replacing the screen and digilizer might not work) or replace...
I Have similar issue
With any white or brightly coloured aspect of the screen, I always see blue lines go from the brightly coloured shape and up to the top of the screen if I have my keyboard open for example (android lollipop or google keyboard with material light skin) it would leave one big line up the screen giving it a blueish haze, the for a clock on my homescreen, there are blue lines that come off the top to the top of the screen. This also occurs in the boot animation, the whole screen is left with a blue haze. Maybe this is something to do with Motorola making a budget device and so they give it a display that is easily damaged by its own brightness? Maybe? I don't know. Are there any known fixes for this?
Thanks

That's all great getting a replacement unit but this seems to be a very common issue, therefore, there is a high chance that the new one will have the same issue. Also, everyone is posting here because we wish to know how widespread the issue is, which is now apparant and if anyone knows of a reason or potential fix for the issue. Hope that cleared things up for you

No I don't, I haven't had any Moto's Products, but because I have/had HIGH expectation from Motorola, thought, they did that on purpose, because if it wasn't, it is a BIG MESS, BIG... !
I have it as well, and me being me i decided to try to test its waterproof ability . And my phone is still fully working so it affect its waterproof capability and yes i did do a full submersion. Also I contacted Motorola Tech Support and they said that is is fine.
Also a little side note after submersion if the speaker doesn't work its because the headphone jack is full of water so the phone thinks headphones are plugged in so just blow into it to get the water out.

OK, so I have analyze everything written in this reply and it appears that the moto g have a secret waterproof(half supported)and about the light coming out of the buttons moto really made it and they MEAN IT( since you said that you contacted moto tech support and they said it's fine)
So basically to summaries the phone is still IPX7, about the light I don't know if they meant it but they said it was "normal" sooo I don't really know.
I think it is by design specially that the audio button has two spots and the power button is only one. Personally I find it cool!

Here's the official Motorola reply.
Thanks for reaching out to us. The blue "light" seen in the photo is actually a reflection of the display backlight off of some internal components and is not a defect. The Moto G uses a combination of external seals and internal seals to keep your phone safe from splashes and drops in water. The power and volume keys are protected by internal seals, and there is no risk of water leakage in these areas.

So if its not a defect it means its supposed to be like that. To me it looks like it was done on purpose due to the location of the light. So agree with the poster a few posts back.
i can observe it .. i also have those blue light lit
Mine has it too and I'm still not 100% sure about the waterproofing. Maybe they stop using an external seal and leave all the work to an internal seal that was originally intended has a back up or change it(?). If light leaks then the only way water won't is that the seal or part is transparent, if they intended is a possibility tho. But I don't believe is one intended feature since no advertising about it was made at all and no all moto g semms to has it. It'll be a really weird move from Motorola to add a feature like this and the strangest thing is that no all of their support team knows about it.
I got in contact with them yestersay and after seeing the photos they tell me to ask for a replacement... maybe the agent was new or just lazy? I'll give it a try again and see if it was just the agent not knowing or laziness... Finally there's almost no information about this,so maybe is something that just start happening which might mean that this is a change in production.

Every moto g3 has that hole where light comes.
A have it too better not b a defect ave rooted and modded mines to the hill so my warrenty is gone.
I took a look at the internal components of the device by disassembling it and saw little lights behind the buttons, so the lights are actually meant to be there, don't know why though.

i am curious about water submersion too. I've read somewhere that it may be available a usb flap to buy sepaarately
I just did.
Tried to play a YouTube video, the phone thought that a headphone is plugged, shaking the phone for a second fixed it.
I've ran it under a tap. All fine. Might set it video recording and drop it in the sink later for fun. Lol

Just do the pressure test first if you're concerned dipping it into water.
EDIT: just fully submerged it. Audio doesnt seem to play through music, and there is an audio lag too outside of music app. Also, seem to have touch screen issues now fml. Im waiting it to dry and report back. If its faulty i guess i will have to send it back. >.> but the camera app seems to work 100%.

- so sad that sony dropped underwater photography marketing. I have a z2, but i do not think i will buy z5 phone anymore. Probably i'll wait to see how z6 will look.
I got this through handtec and I contacted them yesterday, they told me to contact sony first and see how that goes. If nothing is done they told me to contact them back.
If what Ben posted is true then there are two possibilities:
1- my phone is faulty, my z3 still plays music and no audio lag even when it's wet or fully submerged. Would be great if someone else submerged their z5 and prove me wrong here
2- this is the new way sony is trying to protect the speakers when wet.
Touch screen issue is extremely weird, keep in mind after submerging it I wiped the screen dry.. I was able to navigate throughout the phone but on the other hand it's so bad to the point I can't even type anything. I rebooted the device once and same issues occured.
Phone dried pretty quickly after 15 minutes or so and everything seems to work 100% fine. I thought it was either the exposed USB or headphone jack that caused the touch screen issue when wet, so I'd just poured some water on it and nothing happened. I can't tell whether I have a defected phone.
What do you guys advise me to do?
EDIT: Just rinsed the entire device with tap water, seems to work like my Z3. I have no clue why it acted like it first did. Maybe tonight ill submerge it again lol
Lol. So it's all good again? Good to know!
Here you go people. I sent it swimming in my sink -

yea right? so confused about whats going on. One more thing, when i had the camera app opened with the touch block app on, the camera prompted a message saying that the camera is in used by another application, which is weird cause i have nothing else opened other than the camera. The sensors must be high. Im just not sure if i should demand for an exchange cause i just had this device for less than 48 hours. But then again, sending it back to UK from CANADA will be extremely annoying.
I've not submerged mine and probably not planning too my Xperia Z was my pub trick I was always putting it in water, cider anything really however Sony back tracking on underwater usage makes me a little concerned. Especially when they say that you cannot use functions while it is wet.

spoke too soon, the touch screen and audio issue came back. so frustrated cause i missed few important calls fml. Imma try flashing aother stock ROM. Anyone where to get the flashtool patches for the Z5 series? their site isnt working....
Mine's still working perfectly after that video (and when I was filming that i actually submerged it about 4 times testing everything out)
Maybe you do have a faulty one and should get it replaced? I figured it's better to find this out now while it's new, because if you found out in a years time if it fell in by an accident it'd be a lot harder to get it replaced

yea i actually contacted Handtec, they told me to contact SONY UK, but i cant even make that call from Canada lol. Handtec acknowledged it is a defected phone and told me to send it back for a replacement. I dont know should i just get a full refund or give it another go. :crying:
Well if you like the phone then get another, I'm happy with mine. Haven't had any issues with it. It's smooth fast battery is fine etc
Otherwise use it as an opportunity to swap for something else

Xperia Z5 - Backlight unevenness

I just got my green Xperia Z5, seems like the backlight is uneven on the right side (two spots or so) that extends to almost the center of the screen darker/pressure spots -- It tends to be unnoticeable for the most part except on pure white screens, and sort of disappears a bit on high brightness
Anyone have anything like this?
May be its Dead screen pixel , Company says if they have moreqthen 5 dead pixels in new phone , you can send your phone to them..

I have the same problem
Mine doesn't seem to have this problem. The adaptive brightness is bit temperamental though, and the screen is usually quite a bit darker than my Z3 with adaptive brightness enabled. The brightness slider is set to max on both. Probably an attempt by Sony to save more battery.
No issue here as well. I do not use adaptive brightness but keep brightness at about 50%.

Nah. Definitely not dead pixels. The screen is pretty muc perfect, seems like there might be something behind the screen exerting pressure. I know LCD tech prone to these types of backlight uneveness however I was hoping Sony would've beaten the average.

I have a similar issue with my Z5 that I bought 2 weeks ago at Media Markt in Sweden. I just got it back today after returning it to Sony, and their repair shop (MobyLife) sent it back to me claiming that they 'could not reproduce the fault'.
What I notice most about my display is that it's a little bit darker and most of all blueish on the right half, and has a more red tone on the left half.
The staff at Media Markt didn't see it, my girlfriend can't, but I know it's there and it's annoying as hell! When comparing my Z5 side by side with my brothers Z5 it's really easy to spot.
I will not give up and just accept this, and especially not now when I know it's not only my device.
Bought mine couple of hours ago. Get home and find out mine has the issue as well. White streak right dab in the middle. Rev 4, white model, EU. Time to go back to the shop tomorrow and demand a replacement. Damn it Sony.

I also have had this problem with 3, YES 3 Z5 handsets. All out of the box having this issue, sometimes hard to spot, but once you spot it once, its always there when you are scrolling etc and I cant help noticing it. I expect more from a $1000+ flagship phone. Mine is REV 3 model.
Do you think I could get mine replaced under warranty?

i just got mine last night, and i have the same problem.
Jeez that's bad! Seems as if Sony invariably have issues with their screens. Takes me back when I had issues with the Sony Xperia S (yellow tint) fiasco.
Unfortunately I have the same problem too. Bought the Z5 Graphite Black last Friday via Clove only to find a white patch going from right to left in the middle of the screen. I got my replacement today and the screen is much worse this time round. Needless to say I called Clove and asked for a refund which they are duly sorting out.
I'm really disappointed with Sony - their QC hasn't been great and apparently the same issues have been prevalent on the Z3 which I was lucky enough to dodge when I had a Z3 but not this time around. As much as I wanted the Z5 I've been put off and won't be chancing my luck with another unit.
Think I'll wait for the Z6.

Same issue here, not as bad as yours though. Not gonna ask for replacement since I can barely see it myself
Same issue here
I regret to report that I have the same issue as well. I noticed it a month ago and I've treated this phone with absolute care.
I have had the same on one of my replaced devices and they took it under warranty without any concern.

1st Z5 : Left hand Blur issue
2nd Z5 : Camera button issue
3rd Z5 : This issue on 3 spots
4th Z5 : Left hand Blur issue
5th Z5 : Backplanel unglued
6th Z5 : Left hand Blur issue
7th Z5 : This issue right in the middle
8th Z5 : The PERFECT one !!!!

Had similar issue with my first one, sent for replacement, came back with one ok.
Tbh I am really NOT expecting screen defect for mobile devices nowadays as the manufacturing process should be quite mature. But sony still suffers from it....
