[Q] Unroot Replenish?

Hey everyone, let me first say that if this isn't in the correct area of the forum, my sincere apologies. Now onto the main question. So, awhile back I rooted my Samsung Replenish because a good friend of mine recommended that I do so. I really enjoyed it at first, but now I'm starting to have the worry of possibly getting caught by my provider. That, or I have to take the phone in for maintenance and they deny me service because it's rooted. So, my basic question really is how do I unroot root my Replenish? I spoke to someone and they told me to flash it back to the stock ROM. But I have no idea how to do that. Thank so much guys, I really appreciate it.

Just flashing back to stock does not actually unroot it. You should probably check under the forum created for your phone for a quide in how to unroot it.

I can't seem to find the thread for the Samsung Replenish.

I'm not sure what it should be but you might need to use a codename of some sort for the thread. If there indeed is no threat there should be a post somewhere around the forums which tells a rooting method also works for your phone. It's not unlikely your phone shares a bootloader with another samsung phone

I'm an extreme noob when it comes to this sort of thing, so if someone could please help guide me through this, it'd be very appreciated. My phone is acting up so I have to take it in. So the sooner it's unrooted, the better.

What answer are you expecting? I know that sounds incredibly criticizing, not my intention, I promise. I got a laugh. I'm just saying think about it.
My advice though is to watch someone do it on youtube. Even if not for your phone it will help give you an idea of the steps needed and about how long it should take (very useful if something goes wrong and you find yourself sitting and waiting and worrying about how long it is supposed to take)
If you can be patient and follow steps, I'm sure you can. Everyone has a first time.

Yeah that's the first thing I did before I decided to post. I always try to do my research before finally asking a question. I read that rooting is different for all phones so I thought why watch a process if it's going to be different from what I will actually be doing it will kind of confuse me even more. Also I search on YT and there were only 2 videos that I found for this phone and both were for version 2.3.5.

You might be surprised how few people research anything before posting. There was a post last week about a guy who bricked his sgsii by flashing a file for a lg Optimus. Then got mad when people said that was stupid.
You're already ahead of the curve with what research you've done.
The nice thing about odin is it's samsung specific software. There may be different details for different phones, but how you connect the phone, the file type you choose, and buttons you do and don't select will be the same. If ever in doubt ask a question. Silver03wrx is easily one of the biggest helps here, much less the rest of the community.
Just know that for now, there's no way to root without tripping your flash counter.

So there is no way to root without modifying recovery? I would like to preserve my ability to update ota or potentially reverse the process.

You can follow those insruction with odin. The after you flash the superuser zip you can flash stock recovery tar found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360943.
And fyi anytime you odin the stock firmware .tar it takes u back to complete stock . Beware though in order to be able to take ota updates u can not delete bloatware. Just freeze it. You need stock recovery and bloatware intact/frozen to be able to ota update

so with a fubar'ed flash counter, i can still receive ota updates? also, will this custom recovery alter my efs folder at all?

All u need to do is have stock recovery and all bloatware to recieve an ota.

Rooting the Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000?

Hi there,
I am a new user to an Android Device (Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000); before that I always had a Windows Mobile phone, and I must say now that I am very content with my new device and it's new software. Android works really smooth!
Also, I learned that there is a lot of software to be used on an Android Device, but then your device needs to be rooted first. Now, this is what I would very much like to know...
Is rooting my device a safe procedure?
After rooting my device, am I still able then (if so wished) to restore it back to it's factory settings?
Are there any risks involved?
What about my warranty?
Why should I, or should I NOT, start rooting my device?
What rooting procedure should you suggest to me?
In a way, I am very eager to start rooting my device, but on the other hand I find it a bit scary...
Could you please help me out here?

Thank you for your reply. It all "looks" very easy, although I have a few questions left...
Regarding:
1. "Safe if you know what you're doing." - Do you mean by that: just follow the steps?
3. "You can soft/hard brick your phone if you aren't careful." - What IS a "soft/hard brick" of your phone. In what way then, should I be careful?
Maybe it is NOT fair of me to ask you, also, it seems to me that you are very familiar with it, but would you recommend a novice like me (in this case) to root his new phone, less then a month old, considering the "risks", if there are any, in view of the possible advantages I might find with a rooted phone?

Well I'm sure most of the case, people end up soft or hard bricking their phone because they havent read the directions over and over again and get a little too ambitious. Soft bricking is recoverable but when you flash an incorrect rom or kernel, basically keeps boot looping I think. But you can still get into fastboot or recovery. Hard brick is when your phone won't turn on after messing around with the bootloader or something. Sorry, I can't really explain the technical stuff myself as I'm still learning. I'm familiar with rooting and flashing roms on several phones but I don't know if I would say I'm "very familiar" with it. If you're going to be rooting phones often, then I would suggest you learn the steps involved but I mean if this is gonna be the only phone you root and you're not confident in yourself, then I would suggest either a) get it done by someone who knows what they are doing, b) buy one thats already rooted.

OK, thank you for your honest reply. I'll surely take this into consideration. For now, I think, I'll keep my phone the way it is right now - it's doing just fine...
Still, if anyone, with maybe more experience in rooting phones, would like to reply to this thread, I would not mind at all.

I was looking for a definite answer as well, as to whether it is safe or not and if so which method, not looking to read several reams of posts that mean little to me. I have read that Samsung chips are defective and rooting the two offered methods on this site are dangerous. So no developments in the past 3-4 months? If so I would have expected a split thread for this from the other ones...either way. Have no time to read filler on forums from end users.
I've rooted phones before all without any issues and always find having to read through forums posts are fruitless endeavors, easier to just do it. But this phone is someone else's and I need to ensure I HAVE A LITTLE MORE RESPONSIBILITY HERE.
I only want to root their phone and nothing more, so they can take control of their security.

What is with Capthca codes?
Just to let people know I have tried to root using one click method and it failed! No harm to phone but ineffective. The one posted at addictivetips. I never have had a one click method for for me to date, in all years at rooting phones. So anyone that can verify for me a method that does work, I will be grateful. A step by step guide, do not care how many steps or how much I have to type in! Just something that works without fail.

Rooting Galaxy Note GT-N7000 with KK7
Hello Guys,
I'm not knew to root. Did it twice but that was on Galaxy S3's. The Note is not as easy.
The 3rd Droid needs to be rooted, because the carrier has no upgrade from GB 2.3.6!
Also, this Note is SIM locked, can I root with it? I do not find an online site to unlock my Carrier. Tried them all.
I searched all over this site for days but do not find a CF-Root for this kernel, KK7
Hope you can point me in the correct direction.

1. I noticed exploits are being patched left and right.
2. Knox is easy to trip now.
3. There are no custom firmwares anymore for Samsung phones.
4. Samsung requests the removal of links on this board constantly.
5. Can't use Samsung pay with a knox tripped phone.
6. Downgrading is blocked in case you have an upgraded phone.
Is this what Samsung forums have come to now? Are there phones out there that you don't have to deal with Knox?
It seems people don't really care anymore about Samsung phones?

Your question has been asked by many people on multiple forums. Samsung's flagship is great as is, however the software has a few bugs that bother everyone which is why we root. Samsung built knox so there products would appeal to corporate customers. That is why it exists. To say there are no custom firm wares is false. Just read the development forums. Root is not an absolute must, but it is getting harder as time goes on

I obtained root just to prove to myself it can be done. It is not the most important thing In the world. That said, I do understand your perspective. I appreciate the root apps and custom ROMs, and each year root access I harder and harder. Even without root you can appreciate any android device

I stopped rooting just because my Barclay's bank app doesn't work on rooted phones and it's very convenient for me. Also stock android got a lot better and I like it as it is. Also you have theme engines build it now so you can customize your phone without rooting. All that said of course there is some exceptional cases that root is needed, like recently with the new S6 there is no option to choose 2G only network mode on stock rom and I don't know if there is a no root solution for it

So perhaps I am in a shrinking group of people that still needs, or rather appreciates, rooting.
I'm not sure what I can discuss here...
I am switching from my S5 to my new S6 (got it today!) and I need to use Titanium Backup Pro. I am restoring every app from the former to the latter and some of my games aren't... stored on the Google Play store. And I like root-requiring game alterers, unlocking my phone to be a hotspot, and simpler things like using Coolify, Root Booster and Root Explorer, among others.
Now I've tested my ability to transfer everything over from one device to another (my tablet), so I know it will work. I just keep reading more and more about KNOX (which I successfully avoided on my S5) and how it's unavoidable on the S6. How you can't rollback to an earlier version of Android (since I got my phone today, I'm assuming I have 5.1.1). I don't care about Samsung Pay. At all.
Is it advisable for me to root? If I have 5.1.1, CAN I? I read that PingPongRoot won't even WORK on 5.1.1! What am I to do? Or does no one care about rooting anymore? Is anyone devoted to resolving these issues or did everyone shrug and go, "Eh."?

-_- 5.1.1 is perfectly/easily rootable just by flashing a custom kernel. And if you looked in the development forums you'd see there's plenty of devs that care as there is plenty of rom and kernel development going on.

you might still be able to root or roll back to 5.0.2
Which variant do you have?

Two years ago I would not have dreamed of using an unrooted Android phone, but Android has come a long way now. I have been using my old Note 3 and my current S6 unrooted and I'm not missing root at all. Most of the reasons why I would root are available now without root.
I also enjoy unprecendented stability on my phones. No more flashing untested amateur stuff that fixes one thing and breaks 10 other things. So the answer to your question for me is, no, it's not worth rooting anymore.

I appreciate your response. I have been looking at the development forums. I've been reading all kinds of threads and I guess I just find it daunting. I'm kind of in my own head about how I'm going to do all this and it SEEMS there are so many restrictions on what will work with what (moreso than used to be), incompatibilities and laser-focused restrictions.
I typically feel confident about these things, but when I start reading the various threads, I feel like a n00b. I have to ask because, as you've seen here, I convinced myself out of the possibility of rooting.

Good to know. Possibly. Thing is, I haven't activated my phone yet (and I just got it 5 hours ago) because I know it will deactivate my old one and I'm still doing Titanium Backup to Dropbox. And I'm just incredibly terrified that I will lose the ability to do something that requires my old phone to be active. I don't actually know what that would be, but that's just me.
So, I don't know what variant I have yet. I will report back on that. I should be ready to activate by tomorrow morning.

KNOX & many other apps can be made non-functioning with the Google Playstore app:
"Package Disabler Pro".
It is very easy to follow or change any of their suggested recommendations.
Settings can be saved or restorded to or from .xml files. Password protection is possible.
Worthwhile.

Hey! I have version 5.0.2 on my phone! Fantastic. Now I just have to turn off auto updating.
Update: My phone is not supported by PingPongRoot... G920PVPU1AOC9.

No... I... feel really dumb right now. Rooting has always been so easy. My build just WAS fine.
I will go find ODIN and a tutorial on that.
Update: Not finding anything remotely like that on the Internet, but will search these forums.
Edit 2: Not finding anything. I assume I'm searching incorrect terms. And the PingPongRoot thread is closed because people couldn't stay on topic!
Also wondering if downgrading my build will trip KNOX, for which PPR is specifically made to avoid.

Restoring the stock firmware WILL NOT trip KNOX.
It is true that the PingPongRoot thread is closed, but you still can sideload the apk.

This is great. I had found this thread, but didn't know if it applied.
And I already installed PPR, it just told me when I clicked "Get Root" that my build wasn't supported. Is there some close cousin of my build that would be "correct" to change to? Like the closest build name?
I have: G920PVPU1AOC9
On the list of approved builds, I see, for example, G920PVPU1AOCF.

Since your build number is for the Sprint variant, downgrade to the earliest build there is for the sprint variant.
If it is listed on the PingPongRoot thread, install it. The one you just mentioned looks like the one to use. Try it.

An update: Worked beautifully. Laterally changed my build from G920PVPU1AOC9 to G920PVPU1AOCF - success!
Installed PingPongRoot - success!
And everything followed... Titanium Backup, Lucky Patcher, etc.
Last part is kind of important, though. Tried to install Modded Google Play Store. Failed. Did research and found out I need Xposed to install it.
So I install Xposed (I already had a backup). It tells me my framework is outdated. So I do some more digging and find out I need a special version of Xposed for Lollipop, which I get and install. There's a .zip that I have to flash via recovery in order to make Xposed work which would make Lucky Patcher work which would make the Store work.
Flashing the zip requires TWRP or CWM recovery. Can I install either of those without tripping KNOX? This is getting way too complicated. I mean, logically, I would think that since I have PingPongRoot already, that I'm good.

I dont have the phone yet and was wondering if anyone has successfully completed a rooting of this phone. I am looking to buy it and wanted to know if it is root-able.

Hmm.... Maybe we can ask a moderator to make a lg stylo 2 forum. It won't do any good to look around on the stylo section and muddy already disgusting water with ANOTHER variation of this device. Either that or go looking for an exploit like kids look for Easter eggs.

Careful, another user bricked their device messing around with king root. In the meantime hard reboot the phone and see if root is maintained. Report back on this please, I'd like to know what happens

I too have successfully rooted with king root under marshmallow. I lose it after reboot though.

I think I found instructions for unlocking the bootloader here. Would unlocking it keep me from activating it when the time comes (assuming I do not brick it of course )? I am using virgin mobile. I've been waiting for permanent root before make this my daily.

I think I found instructions for unlocking the bootloader here. Would unlocking it keep me from activating it when the time comes (assuming I do not brick it of course )? I am using virgin mobile. I've been waiting for permanent root before make this my daily.

I have the Boost Stylo2, has anybody tried the Poot method to root. I haven't tried it yet myself.

Haha, I forgot how much fun XDA can be, lol. Nothing like watching a bunch of Junior members post up like they own the place. Seriously, we obviously all have the same common goal, so why act like a bunch of trolls putting each other on blast? That's not gonna look attractive to mods who could recommend a new forum for our device or for devs that already hate this kind of behavior after they've made contributions. They can look right here and see they want nothing to do with a bunch of prepaid carrier newbies whining and *****ing amongst each other over development that hasn't even occurred yet. Now, back on topic, not once has kingroot even begun to work for me, LGMS550 metro pcs. What version of kingroot are you using and please post a link for it along with your variant. Just saying.....

The situation is like most of LG phones with Android 6.x.
Even with bootloader unlocked, some fastboot commands are disabled.
Under such case, a .tot method is the only way to install TWRP which also requires unlocked bootloader.

I haven't unlocked the bootloader on my 2 Plus yet, but if it's like the original Stylo, it's a cake walk. I just want it rooted with custom recovery so I can use layers themes and have a nandroid handy if a theme breaks it.

If this is directed at my post, I was just giving my 2 cents hoping it may be helpful in some way. If this is useless information then I will just keep lurking and waiting. To answer your question I used KR version 4.9.5 my carrier is virgin mobile ls775zv3 marshmallow 6.0.1

Bootloader
Unlocked 2 Plus bootloader using same method as original G Stylo. Kingroot does not work yet, but over 400 people have sent them a request for the 2 Plus, so hopefully soon. MetroPCS 6.0.1.

I tried Kingroot, and not a chance thus far. I'm on Metro with the MS550, I've heard some with the Boost variant having partial success, but KingRoot isn't very successful right now. Unlocking the boot loader on Metro one is easy, just fast boot unlock bootloader I think was the command lol
Yes many commands in fast boot seem to be missing, most notably boot. I have been experimenting with making a twrp or was going to try and find one that might work. I would have tested more if I could boot rather than risking it by flashing it.
On a side note, these phones, i assume, are as hard to break as the G Stylo. I.E. download mode can fix all. However I can't seem to get ahold of a kdz for the stock os. Anyone have any thoughts on that?
