Is my phone beyond fixing? - General Questions and Answers

Hello!
Is my Phone beyond fixing?
After flashing cyanogenmod, gapps and some random zip from internet (I know what a terrible mistake)
my phone(nexus 4) does not boot.
-My screen is black
-Volume down+power button is unresponsive.
-When plugged into the pc, the pc makes a sound as when you connect a usb.
-When writing ADB devices in "adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20140702\sdk\platform-tools" cmd. the list shows nothing.
I've been googling for hours, your help is very much appriciated.

No.
Only sign of life is when I plug the phone into the computer, first the sound in the computer makes when the usb is connected.
Screen is dead and the charger light shows red for just a second

unfortunately, it sounds like its dead. can you post a link to this random file you flashed so we can see what damage it may have done?
put some paces or something obscure in the url so it will let you post it.

Download Mode Fixed!

Folks, this is the Real Deal! No need for Jigs! Yippeee!
1. Make sure your phone is a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate
2. Turn off phone
3. Plug mini-USB cable into phone BUT NOT into computer.
4. Hold down ONLY the 2 volume buttons and NOT the power button.
5. Plug USB cable into computer while holding down both Volume buttons ONLY.
Voila! the phone should be in Download Mode.

P.S. You're going to have to cook it yourself... ;-)
Isn't that the normal way for download mode or am I missing something?

Technically, no. They are plugging it in reverse.
Caution swyping, read at your own risk
Interesting method!
This is my Captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine
Yes, but there are many instruction sets out there describing a three button procedure for download mode, somehow mixing up the recovery mode and download modes.

I'm so gad to have found this new information. I am absolutely amazed that this has not been discovered before. This is groundbreaking. Why didn't anyone ever try this before? It is truly a joyous day for Captivate users. Captivate users unite. Let us all join together as we enter download mode together. Call the president, call the pope... call your grandmother...
I wonder if this works for those who don't have a functioning 3 button combo.
So I assume you mean all captivate builds?

... This is just the regular download mode procedure. It doesn't matter if you plug the cable in to the phone first or to the computer, as long as you're holding up+down vol beforehand.
Works for me. Cool beans. I think I accidentally did this once before, and was like :O But I didn't realize that was how I did it.
the REAL trick is to keep the Vol buttons held for a second or two after the screen comes on when you plug in!
? What so I just pay 7 dls for my jig
But y try that and didn't work

Help NS wont boot/ no charging icon/ no google icon

so my nexus is stock, but unlocked.
i cherged my nexus today an i read on a thread that to calibrate the battery it should be plugged at 100% and then u should turn it off then on and while it boots u should take out the battery. i did it. and now it doesnt boot, not even in fastboot.
some help?
Who said to pull out the battery while booting? It's a dangerous action you may brick your phone. Add I know a lot Chinese users of Nexus S had done this accidentally. Like rebooting without the battery cover when the battery fell off.
And unfortunately I didn't see anyone made their phone back, yet.
Anyway you can search for some threads for saving bricked phone.

Not exactly you can saved it. I find a thread on Chinese forum says use Ubuntu to unbrick a bricked ns. I think the thread actually comes from xda. Try to search here you can find it. Sorry I'm on my phone now can't do a search. All the best.

i know about that, its called adam tool. but that tool is useless if your screen doesnt even light up. i tried the tool and it didnt worked
thanks anyway
you cannot fix a dead boot with any software/USB connection to a PC. A bricked/Dead boot can only be fixed by having a certain hardware called JTAG/RIFF. Check this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iejfuW7XcKA
its a bit high in price between 100-150$, usually repair centers have it and charge 50$ for a fix. I suggest taking your nexus to a repair center and specifically tell them that you have a "DEAD BOOT AND NEED IT FIXED BY JTAG/RIFF"

[Q] mtp stop working after a few minutes

i connect my brand new nexus 5 to the computer via usb (oem cable) with mtp mode activated.
at start it works just fine and i can tranfser a few files to my device, but after a random number of files, or random amount of time (little time AND files - it doesnt last too much) the connection just crashes. it can occour at the middle of transfering files, or just after a few mins. its random from all aspects but whats so weird is that its working at the start and then for no reason it crashes.
i tried to install / uninstall many kinds of drivers i even dont remember which. im helpless
please help me figure out my problem and help me transfer my files freely

If you're on Windows 7, it should automatically download/install the drivers. Is your cable/port good? May be they are loose?
What happens when you select USB debugging and try transferring files?

Worst case scenario is using adb push until you figure out the problem.

Well, never seen anyone having such problems here... People usually don't have a connection at all. The fact that it's connecting and transferring files suggests that the drivers are installed correctly.
It can also be a antivirus related issue? May be it's blocking it?
For the time being, as @numel007 suggested, you can use adb to push files or use a app like Wifi File Transfer to transfer data.

YES! that worked for me i think
i transferred around 370 files with no problem. and then i pressed the sleep button and after like an half minute it frozen again and i had to re-check the mtp mode.
but i think that if i wont touch the screen and let it be always on it will work.
but why the phone is choosing to stop the mtp while its sleeping? isnt that foolish?
Usually it doesn't let you transfer when locked but should work if unlocked before but locked during... but somethings wrong

Why my LG G3 wont charge or recognize USB if i plug it in to my pc?
yes i can charge it, but i need to power off it and then plug charger and after that it will charge
but i wont charge if its tuned on
what is problem?
is it something with software? software bug?
I use Nokia charger.
and also!
Phone won't charge or recognize USB connection unless battery removed
The only thing that gets it to charge is if I remove the battery, connect the charger, insert the battery. After it runs on its charging fine.

Then there is also a possibility that you are using an USB cable that doesn't conduct enough for the USB voltage limit to reach.
Try using another cable. I faced the same when I used the cable provided with my power bank

[Q] Windows can't recognize Nexus 5

Hi,
Purchased nexus 5 (refurb) and as the tittle states, my computer seems unable to recognize this device. I've switched the USB cable as well as test it with another device AND I made sure that the usb configuration is set to MTP,so I know it's the nexus itself. Weirdly, it does receive a charge. Any help would be appreciated as I am hoping to root this device.
Thanks guys
You tried different USB ports?
If you are using Windows, no new devices appear in device manager after connecting the phone?
Was it ever recognize by your computer? Was it recognized by the seller's computer?
Once connected to your computer, swipe down on the Nexus 5 screen, there will be options to change connection type.

Seriously? Nice try though, thanks anyway
Does the phone function properly other than not being seen by your computer? Were you able to try it on another computer?
Does the USB port recognize an OTG drive?
If everything works (mic, speaker, etc.), it's possible that the USB port is damaged in some way.

I'm assuming it has to be damaged. I've tried three computers so far and all it's doing is charging the phone. I don't have an OTG cable on hand so it's hard to determine if it would work that way, but pretty much everything works out of the box except for this issue.
This is pretty annoying, I was looking forward to putting some custom ROM's after working with the s6edge sluggish Touchwiz software
Yup, sounds like th USB port is damaged and needs to be replaced.
When buying a replacement, make that the seller has good feedback. I saw a few posts where the replacement port had issues with the mic, charging, or data transfer.
