Identifiying Bright Pixel Type - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I received an LG G2 today, and I noted it has small white dot in the middle of the screen. I'm trying to identify if it's a dead pixel or a stuck pixel. Warranty is harsh in my country, and before going on an all out battle to replace the unit, I want to make sure it's indeed dead and not just stuck.
It's bright white dot, and I can see it visible on green, blue, red, white and grey - even though it's easier to identify on white and grey. I can't see it on a black screen. Is it dead or stuck?
Thanks!

im not sure that it matters if its dead or stuck, im not aware of any way to fix it either way, other than changing the screen. i would get it replaced.

[Q] white dots on screen in black background, also when watching a video

Hi,
I am seeing 2 single white dots on left side of my phone screen. I like Galaxy R beacuse of its specification. But same time I was worried about its screen size as I am too used to keep phone on left front pocket of my jeans pant. When I drive 2 wheeler I see sometime it gets pressurized. I don't know how else I can keep this phone with me.
So the question is, did my phone create any dead pixels just because of it might have got some pressure? Anyone can help to know are those really dead pixels and how to fix them?
I can only see them when camera switch on/off and display for a moment becomes black or when watching video. Otherwise with full colour background wallpaper, dots never be seen.
Well as we have lcd screen, i dnt thinkk that problem like dead pixels in amoleds can be happen here (correct me if i m wrong)
try flashing stock rom and wipe cache and dalvik cache, may be it help. Do update ur prob resolved or not.

i don't think they are dead pixels, it may be because of dust.. similar thing happened to my friends Optimus One because of dust..
First let's confirm its not due to the background of the picture that was on your screen.
- Type *#0*# => Press Vibration(Black) => Now check if there are any White spots.
- If there are white spots on the screen then take it to the service center and have it checked, if its just dust as guys above me have mentioned then they'll clean it.
- If you can't see any white spots then it was the background that you were talking about which had white spots & nothing is wrong with the screen.
Hope this helps.

I have a similar white spot... well, i am saving that one, given that the R is now out of stock, if we dont see an ICS build or if samsung says they can't get to update it to ICS, i am gonna take it to the samsung centre and ask them to change the screen as i am getting that white spot and because of no stocks, i am sure i will be getting my refund
Even I had a white pixel on the left hand side of the screen on my SGR. You can observe it only while having a dark background. I read online that its pretty common so I left it.
You can try an android app - "Pixellator" (?!).. I am not sure if thats the name.. It has been made specifically for such white pixels.. Its dint work for me though... But no harm in trying

Thanks for this information. I was not knowing such hidden interface. I did above test and found no white spots. I am actually confused now. I do have scratch guard on my screen. Don't know but those 2 white spots can be seen randomly only when black background is on screen.

Then it's the background's problem .
I know CM7 has such a system app called CMWallpapers.apk , and they have the choice of setting it as "No Wallpaper" . Can you try extracting that from the CM7 ROM and giving it a try ? Don't know if it works though *shrug*
This was sent from a Galaxy Ace. Problem?

Switch on the camera and cover your camera & manually turn off the flash. Now take a picture it would be completely black.
Do update on the progress here.

I can now see those 2 very small white spots at the same place. Do such spots are problematic in future and should be fixed at service center soon? Do they will fix this under warranty?

i had my Samsung tablet 8.9 since January and all of a sudden i noticed a white spot on the screen. it appears as gray when the device is on and the screen is white and it appears as white when the device is off or the screen is black. has anyone encountered the same problem? what is it? and why it suddenly appeared? how to solve it?
it is a normal thing. almost all lcd screens have approx. 0.03% dead pixel in whole screen even if it is new. there is no point to be worried about this.

Yellow tinge in display

Hello friends,
Today only i have received my Tab2 7.0 and i am finding some yellowish tinge in display especially in White areas. Anyone else faced this problem ?
Thanks
remove the plastic screen protector, make sure it's not dead pixel (mostly dust inside the plastic screen protector)
if it's dead pixel then you should claim RMA warranty to samsung service center
Oh.....can this Plastic Screen Protector has so much effect
No as yet haven't noticed any dead pixels. Warranty i think is void because of flash counter

dead pixel doesn't means it's muse be black color, (if it's black without emitting light/RGB-color, then it's probably just a dust)
I've dead pixel in my laptop and the color is Reddish-Blue when displaying white scene on monitor.
The pixel contain 3 color (Red, Green, Blue), so in my case should be the Green-subpixel is died.
In your case (Yellowish tinge), probably because the Blue-subpixel is dead.
because Yellow color is produced by combining Red & Green color only (without Blue)
White color is produced by combining Red-Green-Blue subpixel all together, so you must test your screen under white scene (eg: in browser, white text editor, or program can detect dead pixel on the android market)
Oh man ! You got some in-depth knowledge about the subject.
Can you plz tell name of that app ?
Thanks once again !
I also have this yellowish tint display issue on my new tab 2 7.0. Most noticeable in white backgrounds, such as Settings or in Play store, or in the web browser. It's pretty yellowish. And overall the display looks washed out. I thought this is a PLS display..? Same as original galaxy tab 10.1? My original Gtab 10.1 has a much vibrant colors, and this one is really washed out and again, the yellowish tint on white backgrounds.
Is this normal? Is this not a PLS display? Do I have a defective device? Should I exchange it for another one (I prefer not to if it's definitely normal, but will def do if this is not normal).
Thanks for your help!
Could someone please answer to my post?
Anybody who has the tab 2 7.0 must have answer to my question if they also have yellowish tint or not..more technical answer would be also helpful.
Thanks.
Anyone???
I'm debating on exchanging it or not as I'm going to the place I bought it tomorrow. I already have everything set up on this device, so want to know if is is actually defective screen.
Some reviews say that the screen is vibrant, while some others say that it is washed out or yellowish. One review says they hear people complaining that the screen has yellow hue, but they don't have it on their device. I don't know who's right..I did search on this forum, and saw other people complaining too, but not much replies in any of the threads and one person said it must be the screen protector, but I don't have any screen protector on.....
Any help would be appreciated.

If you don't like it, return it. Or, at least you could look at another unit at the store and see if it's consistent.

dead pixels?

hey guys, I've had my phone since launch but just noticed a screen problem. I initially did a dead pixel test when I got the phone but what I missed is that there is a row of off pixels whenever I am on a dark screen. I guess I never noticed it before because my screen doesn't generally have such dark colors on it. Basically on a black screen there is a line and a few dots that are darker than the rest of the screen.
has anyone had these problems before? will Vzw be willing to replace my phone under the manufacturers warranty? thanks guys, love the community

This is a common issue. (should search the forums next time)
You should be able to get VZW to replace your phone, but the chance of getting a phone that is just as bad, if not worse is very likely. Honestly, you shoul do as I have and just deal with it. You very RARELY even see the spots on a dark screen.
That is if it's just a few, if you have a LOT of dark spots like that then you'd prob end up with a better replacement. Me, myself, I have 3 spots that are very small in size so I'm not going to bother to try to get my phone replaced.

Yellowish Display?

Hello guys!
Today, after comparing two galaxy s8 plus I noticed that my display, looks a little bit yellow than white. Just the white color, it's not so white... Not sure how to explain it. On the other galaxy, the white is white, like have to, mine look a little bit "yellowish". On both device display settings are not touched. Do you think I should take it to service? Or is just software issue?

Did you accidently turn in blue filter? There's a toggle for it and I've seen people hit it by mistake.

I didn't touch anything. I found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTQr6VwMfBI on youtube. So basically Samsung cant make the same color screen on every device? But how can I fix this? Maybe if move the red option in display settings?
Do you think if the white is not white, this means the rest colors are not shown properly also?

Pixel 2 non xl screen in saturated

I got a Pixel 2 (non XL), but the screen had kind of a reddish yellow tint, so I sent it back for a replacement, and the replacement also had kind of a tint. I looked at the Pixel at Best Buy, and the screen appeared to be the same, so now I think it might be normal, but before I sent in the first Pixel 2 I received, I asked on reddit about the tint, and someone said that if it got more yellow when you set it to saturated, you should send it in, and it did. When I set the new device in saturated, it gets slightly warmer/more yellow, so is this normal? I talked to Support, and they said it was normal, but I'm wondering if your phone does it too.

Whites appear more yellow on this device vs an LCD screen. It only gets more yellow as you switch to saturated mode. The pixel 2 did not have a dull color issue like the XL version, so there is no need to use the saturated mode. Use the boosted mode and you'll be happy and colors will look more natural.
Both the original Pixel 2 I got and the replacement have slight reddish tints near the top of the screen when viewing a white background. Is this normal? I think the Pixel 2 I saw at Best Buy might have had it too.
The reddish/pinkish tint is mainly in the top of the screen, and I tried to take a picture of it, but it wouldn't show up. It bugs me when, so I might return it and get a OnePlus 5t.
