Marshmallow UPDATE available. Note5,S6 Edge plus - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Did anyone noticed this thread?. Some guy received the Marshmallow update on his TMobile Note 5. This is a good news for S6 users, because I'm sure someone will be able to port it, since it uses the same Exynos processor. Lollipop port on to the SM-N915T - T-Mobile Note Edge

I was wondering if there are any developers who could assist me in a porting Lollipop to the Tmobile note edge. Tmobile is taking far to long and since there are other variants that already have it with almost identical hardware, it wouldn't be to difficult. I would even be glad to donate a little for your assistance. Anyway if anyone other people support this, please chime in. Please hit me up devs! Thanks!
I agree
PLEASE DEVS. ...there is like 3 custom roms for the tmobile note edge. ..and no lollipop update. .tmobile is taking very long to release it to the edge. ..I love my edge but considered switching to note 4 just bcuz there is very little development for the tmobile note edge. ..will pay if I have to. ..
+1 915T Development
100% behind this! Got my Edge last week and I'm absolutely loving it . But coming from an M7 that had a million Roms and firmware updates it's sad to see so little being done for this awesome phone .
and the official lollipop is here. for tmo...
Better late than never, but I was happy to see 5.01 on SAMMOBILE this morning. Installing as we speak. But I am going to miss hypderdrive rom until he updates his rom with Lollipop.

Looks like we are getting Android N

http://www.androidcentral.com/will-...l&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer
great news to us xt157x users. expect android N in the near future, cannot wait for the custom roms for it !!
I think that is just an opinion piece.
I would agree, this is a "most likely" case and probably largely the article writers opinion, or best personal knowledge (there is little to no reference articles to backup this information linked anywhere in the article). Lenovo doesn't have the best track record here... they said they would have Marshmallow for several device and then backed out later too.
If we get it officially, great, but I'm not holding my breath... if not I am sure our developers here won't let us down.
If Lenorola does, I'd be shocked. The 6.0.1 patch has been out for 246 days and we just got . . . May's security update 2 weeks ago. Motonovo has said 2015 was a rough year for them (support wise) but in the 8 months they've had to make 2016 a smooth year, IMHO, they're still rough and bumpy. Maybe some Gold Bond Ultimate?
I made a joke there, and it's not really funny. Feel free to ignore.
I do believe 6.0.1 is a small patch for phones that needed it. Moto X pure doesn't need it. Read this. http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/12/16/android-6-0-1-marshmallow-update-whats-new/ .This was for the 6.0.1 update. Then ask yourself if you really needed it. Plus id rather them spend effort on Android N. As far as getting N. We will. When is the question. That would be the last update it will get. But you can cry and switch phones. Good luck on getting updates any faster. Remember you already bought the phone. They would rather you buy a new one.
I agree that we will probably get N. What I don't get is the 6.0.1 update, or lack of it. They released it for the Style 1572, or at least some of them. My understanding was that other than language, the only differences was dual sim and maybe a radio band or two. Otherwise specs show as the exact same. These minor differences should have made any extra development minimal if any was required at all.
I'm not whining about it, but rather just curious as to why it was decided not to give the 1575 the same update. The two models are not like many other ones out there where international versions vs US versions can have larger differences (I.e. old example but take the galaxy s3 with a QC dual core 2gb RAM vs international with Samsung processor quad core and 1gb RAM) and carrier branding creates further issues.
Did you read the link? Im not saying Moto x pure is a perfect phone , it didn't need a 0.0.1 update . Read what it fixed for Moto x play. http://motorola-mobility-en-in.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/110304. Moto x pure already had these when it first rolled out. The fix was minimal and not necessary for them to make. The radio in the Moto x play was bad. They needed a tweak. That was it. You fail to see the relevance of the 6.0.1 patch. Are you having issues with your phone such as camera, radio, serious battery drain? I get a full day with 4.5 hours of screen time. That's almost perfect phone to me. And what ive read that's on par with the majority on this site. So please explain to me what 6.0.1 is going to accomplish for me or any other user for the Moto pure. More emoji's? Give me Nougat.

I browsed through the link material. And you are correct that the features for the most part were already incorporated. Just curious was all. Didn't realize the style had radio issues. Thank you for answering that question. I could care less for emojis as I don't use them.

from my experience with LG devices and updates, firt G5 will receive the 7.0 until ends of September/October and next V10 until ends of December or earlyer January! Dont bother too much, we will receive it anyway!
There is no root for Marshmellow so likely nougat will be more impenetrable. I'm sticking to Marshmellow and waiting for a root.
There is way, way too much crap-ware on verizon phones not to be rooted.

depends wich variant you have, in some variants the bootloader is unlockable and then have root like mine!
i am sure LG will make all variants unlockable-able bootloader so, you need to wait if you have a locked one!

Verizon (or any other cell company) has no vested interested in giving root access to it's customers. The phones are loaded with crap ware to data mine what you are doing. That is valuable data to Verizon and they are not about to lose that income stream if they can help it.
I've had previous Verizon phones with the same "locked down" problems. Even though the phone would play MP3, etc; that made it so you HAD to buy any music you wanted to play through their Verizon store. Outrageous when I have 250GB of music archive I want to choose from.
I held my nose and went back to Verizon because we are planning to move to a rural area and Verizon was the only company that had any coverage. Stuck again in locked down hell.
Someone PLEASE find a way to root these phones!

Root the V10 with bootloader locked and Android 6.0 Marshmallow is impossible...
The only method to root V10 with bootloader locked is on 5.1.1 Android Lollipop with some kind of dump, i know its possible because when i have my G Flex 2 i have bootloader locked and i root it in 5.1.1, but when update to 6.0 Marshmallow i cant root so, if you want root for now you need to be in 5.1.1.
We will get android 7 for sure but i also do not expect it before the end of the year. They will first focus on G5 which most probably will get it around september/october and after that will work on V10 and G4. Android 7 have some good new features like the multitasking and advanced doze mode but frankly my V10 is working perfectly even now with marshmallow so i am in no rush to get the update as soon as possible. Lets hope that we will get it as christmas present before end of the year.
Outside of vulkan I couldn't care less about nougat.
In fact I think it should be called 6.1 not 7.0, there is nothing interesting about it multiple windows? This has been around for awhile if the app supports it.. My note 3 had multi window support and so does the LG v10 it's pretty useless
Sent from my LG-H901 using XDA-Developers mobile app
It should also be noted that marshmallow doze features can be enhanced with 3rd party apps such as ForceDoze which can decrease the time it takes for doze to kick in when the screen is off.

LG Android Nougat Update
LG has earned pretty good reputation among devs for updating their flagships faster than anyone else to the latest Android version. Last update also, LG updated their flagship, LG G4 to Marshmallow soon after the update was released for the Nexus devices. We can expect that for the current flagship LG G5 and the previous flagship LG G4 with LG Android 7.0 Nougat Update.
Here is the list of all devices which will get LG Android Nougat Update :
LG G5
LG G4
LG V10
These are the devices which are confirmed to get the Nougat Update from LG, we don’t have any confirmation till now. We’ll be updating the post when it will be available.
Also, LG’s updates are generally lagged by the carriers in US, so the LG Android Nougat Update timeline may vary from different carriers like Verizon, Sprint, etc. And we can expect the updates to come to the devices listed above just after 2 months from release of Android Nougat.
Long story short, at least we're getting it. After rumors of the V20 coming out already many people believed LG would forego the update to pressure people into buying the V20. We know now, that's not the case.
I for one would really like the Nougat update. Split screen might have existed since a long time ago but official support from Google means wider adoption. Vulkan of course is another must have feature along with the improved Doze. I also love the interface seen on the V20 including the notification/quick toggle shade. The V20 also allows the second screen toggles to work whilst the main screen is on (sound, wifi, flash, camera etc.), something that the V10 does not allow. Hopefully this will be implemented as well along with other second screen improvements like allowing all notifications to go on the second screen.
The doze improvements can be brought to marshmallow via ForceDoze which can make doze kick in immediately when the screen is off.
Multi screen I have never found particularly useful for even big screen phones, there is simply not enough room to legitimately work with. Great for tablets nearly useless for phones.
Correct me of I am wrong but The hardware has to support vulkan in order to take advantage of it right? Pretty useless unless you've got a newer phone that can use it.
Nougat to me sounds more like a minor update (should be 6.1 not 7). It sounds like the most lackluster update to android yet.

LG G5 F700L Korean version has got Nougat 7.0. I am from India and I got this update via LG bridge software,
I do have LG V10 but still no luck with LG bridge. I manually downloaded MM kdz file from LG site and flashed.
It was quite unfortunate though, as back when Nougat was released last year, LG initially listed G4 and V10 to receive Nougat. I just hope with the re-affirmation by them that they will test the firmware well and not do a botched job of the Nougat build. Since it is highly unlikely we are getting the next O software by Google, let's hope we atleast get the latest Nougat 7.1/7.2.
question: I love and hate this phone...camera is great in steady shot, but when fast focus is needed it fails. When I take pics of kids, lots of pic. came out blurry, now, what do you think, can Nougat fix this or it's just slow hardware?

i think Nougat doesnt fix what you want, only thing Nougat will bring to us most likely is the new UI from G5/V20 or G6, some doze optimizations, multi-window will be more friendly and nothing more...
hope they can fix the Hi-Fi DAC to be used with the speaker and not only with the earphones, hope to less system storage ocupied by the system and more to the user, and really hope the GPS will be fixed too because my V10 fixing time of GPS is fast but, every 2/3 minuts lost signal and this is really what have dissapointing me in this device!
...and (i dont belive this will happen but) i hope they remove the sh1tty beauty mode for the front facing camera, this make the photos look ugly and have 0 quality!
Since this probably will be the last OS to our V10 i think users deserve unlockable bootloaders and then users can cook their own rom's and kernels (this is a dream for me since day 1 of have the phone in my hands, since july last year!).
Root LG V10 - TMobile
It's possible with Dirty-Cow root.

S6 or S7?

Hi,
I am looking into buying a S6 or S7 for my wife. I know the S7 is the newer version (duh) but future proofing also means having access to newer Android Versions. Afaik nougat is the last android update the S6 will receive while I am guessing that the S7 will also get Android O. That would leave me with installing a custom rom (on the S6) when O comes out. I tried having a look at the forums but I am not sure: Is it correct to say that the S7 is the better phone when it comes to custom roms?
Thanks for the help!
I have an S6 and Exynos = no custom/Aosp roms. I know they are very early stages of Aosp because Exynos will not release the source code. So getting a working version of Android O before it is officially released for S6 is a lot of work to get stable. I cant see that happening.
I have ordered my S7 but dont have any experience at the moment with it. I have seen AOSP on the S7 so that means there is a lot of development going on. Which for me is key when buying a new phone. Exchange, contribute, share and improve info.
So short answer is YES
LineageOS is out for both phones, but i'll bet some stuff still doesn't work. I would opt for the s7 mainly due to the bigger battery.

Is the S7 flat still worth it? 2019

As the title says, is the sS7 flat still worth buying as of today? I recently sold my phone and wanted to buy a new one, and found an s7 for $170, but I don't know if it's a good deal. What do you say?
Thanks.
I've not long had mine, maybe a month?
I came from an S4, had a moto x style (play in US) for about 6 months then I got a second hand S7 for £100. I think the camera was better on the moto but the development has all but stopped now
Getting an S7 though? I absolutely love it once you get it on a custom rom (or debloated stock) and get it tweaked just the way you like it, it runs like an absolute dream, I'm very happy with it
The price is good. Just make sure it is new and not rooted before buying.
Yeah I bought one in June after having a BLU R1 HD. S7 is much better
If you are curious I have a SM-G930W8
Nice nice, thanks everyone. I just bought it, it should arrive by Saturday or maybe Monday. I'll report back

Did you buy the international version or a US model? International S7s are absolutely better in almost every single way.
Been using mine since 2018, got it off my partner when she upgraded to a Note 8. Its currently running alexndr dev base rom and it never misses a beat! Besides, if it's good enough for DISA's DMCC-S network, it good enough for me.

This is bad information.
No. Not every single way. And if buying for a US carrier, it's worse in many of the ways that matter: radio compatibility, and proper csc for function of wifi calling, VoLTE, and ViLTE, etc.
It's been a slow process with deaths in the family, but I've just started getting my s7 ready to use. Wanted to do the right research on what is safe or not to debloat for what I use, and that took a while. I'm 99% ready to use it [emoji846] my mom also has an s7. But I think the debloat process is helping mine run even smoother.
Once I have it fully the way I want, I'm gonna make a full backup. Then that way when I want to "reformat" I can just go back to that point. Seems like a good plan.
I plan to run it right down into the ground, lol. Some people upgrade every year. Me? I'll be upgrading from the captivate glide! S2 based. I still love that phone and it's in great physical shape, but the ram and compatibility just are not keeping up with it anymore even for a lighter user like me. I can use root to fool the play store about which android version, but if the app update coding doesn't support my older devices architecture it ends up with parsing errors and won't run. It took this long but this is finally starting to officially kill my s2.
I plan on running the s7 in exactly the same manner, until I just can't make it work any more! [emoji16]
what ROM is the best for S7? I have currently lineage OS 16 with nano gapps, I am considering to change it to something else. some features of the phone are not used(face unlock??), and few bugs I have noticed like the camera app is terrible slow (unable to take photos at night cause the flash is flashing and after a second the picture is taken LOL)
Well i just bought one, Canadian version with exynos in case i end up rooting it.
I did buy it just to use in the gym as an MP3 player but will likely end up flashing roms etc on it as well.
Doubt i could use it as my main device as its too small for me (im using a note 10 plus so big difference lol).
The lineage OS is good if you don't mind the camera photos being poor quality. If you want the best out of your camera you will need to run a Samsung stock based OS, because only those have the right camera drivers. SupermanRom is a good android version 8 debloated Samsung OS.

well thank you for the reply, I like the pure android PIE feeling (currently crDroid), but some features are missing, and OFC, the camera (the most important) is way worse than my Xiaomi MI5 was, so I'll consider to flash a stock base ROM
-don't you know if any GCam is working good on ROMs like https://turbox.uk/pages/roms.html ? (no black screen death, and photo quality as good as samsung stock)?
...superman or DevBase v6.0 or....LightRom by TeamExyKings..... hmm, how to choose from these? /if the camera problem can't be solved on these aOSP stlye roms/

I tried LineageOS for a while, because I really like so much about it, but the big downside was the camera, so I tried GCam versions until I found one that's stable. Best case scenario is poor compared to what it would be on a Google phone or what stock Samsung OS would do, because of the kernel-layer camera api that Samsung provides to hook into the cam hardware--you cannot drive the camera properly without these proprietary driver hooks. So I eventually wiped LineageOS and installed SupermanROM, and had a lightweight but very customized and stable experience, with the EXCELLENT cameras Samsung designed. Also, it was a big fight just getting gcam to work without force-close, and then some functions didn't work, and couldn't do high-def vids at fast framerates. It all just works with Samsung cam app + drivers.
So, no, GCam is the best you get for non-samsung OS, but not even close to what you get from Samsung OS.
I don't know about DevBase. SupermanRom was all I tried. It's been a year since then. I moved on to a Note9 phone. The S7 is now actually running LightRom, and is quite nice! (9.0 NFEPort JetBlack) Great cam too! But, I cannot comment about it beyond that, since it's not my daily driver and I have used any radios except wifi. Use TWRP and try em all! Start with the Note9 port and see if it just works. Check bluetooth first. (I like it mainly for the built-in dark mode).
