No way - Droid Maxx 2 General

Got one with the $300 trade-in promotion (with new line)! Like it because of LTE B3/7 for international networks.

I really want to buy one, but I won't unless there is some love from the devs here. This is the perfect phone for me but i need root. Hopefully it will come

I bought it because of the 300 trade in. I did not really much of it but it meant I could get 300 for my Moto X 2013 which was my backup phone. This way I was able to get a newer backup phone for cheap. I like the phone though. Honestly the only thing I really really wish it had was an AMOLED screen instead of the LCD. Otherwise it's a pretty good mid range performer for me.

I am trying to decide if I want to keep a maxx 2 or moto x 2014. Thoughts??? Which one!

Hey guys! Just found this post here and wanted to says that you guys are not the only ones who bought it. Well, maybe in the US (hehehhe) but all over the world this model is called Moto X Play. You can check it for general stuff on the xda page but YOU CANNOT FLASH THE SAME ROMS. appart from that you have lots of stuff there about the phone. Good luck

Hry, about that, although the Moto X 2014 is more beautiful, in terms of specs its way worse than this. Only the processor is better and the screen is amoled (and I think amoled is bad because it burns after some use). Apart from that this phone is better. It doesn't have all gestures like wave to wake up but it wakes up as soon as you pick it. Also they removed the gyroscope but it doesn't make a difference unless you use photosphere or Google cardboard. I would pick the droid maxx 2. Good luck

Ooh, I didn't realize the gyros cope thing until now. Not a deal breaker but, that was a feature I enjoyed using on my original moto X. I've got everything loaded on the max right now and we'll try it out for a few days. I think the battery life and turbocharging is going to outweigh the gyroscope

Also on droid maxx 2, can say I do like the camera more then my previous phone
Sent from my XT1565 using Tapatalk

I bought one because I'm stuck on Verizon and I was returning to Android and didn't want to spend a lot of money. My trade paid for half the cost, so not too bad.

I've just yesterday decided to throw a Data only T-Mobile SIM into 'ye olden Maxx 2 and have been Binge-ing Netflix, and Hulu on it. LOL.

Gents, if you like this phone, this dude is selling XT1564 which is an unlocked Moto X Play, same thing as this and can be used on CDMA (Verizon) http://goo.gl/jA8Nqa

Thanks for the heads up although I think I'm done buying phones for awhile! I would like to go this route when I buy my next phone though because leaving the US carriers out of the update loop seems like a good plan.

Wow it's dead in here. Getting bored with my G3 so I just snagged a used Maxx 2 since I enjoyed my original Maxx and the Turbo. Looks like a nice midrange device that can hold me over for a few months.

True, looks like very few people bought this device.
The reasons why I bought it:
1. CDMA - Verizon phones are compatible with the CDMA network in my country;
2. GSM/WCDMA/3G support to travel internationally;
3. Good LTE-bands coverage, especially Band 20. You can find very few phones which pack CDMA/GSM/LTE (Band 20).
Looks like it is a single-SIM phone - according to the location of the pins inside the sim-card slot.
Has anyone tried XT1564 - does it have the Verizon bloatware?

Something has happened to mine. I decided to factory reset and start fresh. The T-Mobile SIM wont work in it anymore. When I search for available networks, it locates T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T but when I select T-Mobile, it says registering on network but never does. Same SIM I had used in it before. Tried Global as well as LTE/GSM/UMTS network mode. Manually added T-Mobile APN settings as well. No dice. Hmmm

I really like the display of this phone with 64 GB Card .. its a nice phone ...
when Android M going to release ?

I TOTALLY agree.
I'll take the Nexus all day over this.
Motoblur is pure trash. With CM9 0.51 - the phone smokes a stock version - like a different device.
hmm interesting ill consider it when LTE is available, as of right now, getting a LTE phone is like getting a 3G phone in the areas I am in.
this is the only phone i've had that i havent flashed a custom rom -.- stock is good and stable, just that i've been itching to flash roms heh (didn't flash because i dindt want to lose 4g)

Quad-core? 2.0MZh? 32Gb on board with MicroSDHC card slot? NFC support?
Beats (although I could live without it!), LTE? go with 5.0" Screen? True 1080P Video? under 4oz.? Zumocast to access my home computer? take all my damm money!! my pee pee is hard!
And just think, I was getting ready to just for an EVO!
****, I wanted the EVO LTE.... Now my mind is all bothered with other devices.
id tap it.
but i bet they fudge up and either no unlock or even dont make it a world phone. id be super pissed if they release a successor with less capabilities.
I hope the bootloader isn't locked but if its as good as they're speculating, I honestly don't think I'd care. My wife's upgrade is in August. Maybe I can con her into taking my photon and giving me that bad boy there. Either one would be a step up from her evo shi...ft.

Buy Verizon SGS3 for $150, or hold out?

Hey guys,
Is there any reason I should hold out on buying this phone? I can get it from amazonwireless for 150$ and no tax.
Is there any other awesome android phones coming out on verizon this year? Or do you think the price will drop drastically soon (maybe to 99$?)

There might be some new phones, they just announced the Droid Razr HD and Droid Razr Maxx HD, they might be getting a nexus device but who knows. I doubt the price will drop until maybe next January. I say go for it. Its an awesome phone.
I see no need to hold out. Only thing coming to think about imo is the Razr HD/Maxx HD, but to me neither one is better than the S3

I noticed the new droids... my sister has a Droid 3. It sucks though, cause she's stuck on gingerbread and it's not a popular phone for customization. From what i read (And experienced), motorola is horrible for tweaking, while samsung is the best with htc in 2nd.
Since this phone has an unlocked bootloader now, and also has GSM radio, that's a big plus for me.
I just don't want this phone to fall another 50$ right after i buy it, especially with iphone 5s coming out soon competing with it.
Do you guys know if there's an even cheaper way to get it other than 150$?

@fr8cture return and buy it again! get your $50 back!
@rpn its probably not going to sink any further than $150 with a new contract for a while. The only reasons I can think of holding back is to wait for the 64GB model (which may or may not be sold by verizon)
Whatever you do, make sure you refuse to give up an unlimited data plan if you currently have one! Make sure the salesman knows its a deal breaker (even if its really not)

I paid $515 on eBay, so I say you both got good deals lol....that said, I haven't thought twice about paying that price, and doesn't bother me people get it much cheaper on upgrade prices
Is this for the 16 or 32 gig model?
The new Motorola droids are identical to the s3 spec wise. In my opinion Motorola typically has better reception than I have had with the s3. But if you like to mod, there will definitely be a better following with the s3, and aftermarket accessories will be more widely available. The other upside to moto is the amazing battery life of the maxx.

Yep I'd be surprised if it came out before October 2013. The reason this was out so soon in my opinion is because the amount of carriers that got it. Everyone threw money as Samsung, so instead of only a few getting it like the GS2, pretty much everyone did this time around.
Also if you want a phone with customization do not buy a Motorola. They already confirmed that developer editions of these phones will be coming out for $500+ . Coming from a X2, no one could unlock that thing.
I think you can wait for a period of time.

Can't you just root it? Someone would have to find a way to unlock bootloader but still.
SG3 is now $139 on Amazon wireless. I just got one.
What is there to even consider, this is totally a no-brainer... DO IT man!
S3 specs are lightyears away from any phones i foresee coming out in the next 3-4 months.
This is going to be THE phone until its replacement comes out. I would be amazed if we don't see a nexus by the end of the year, but if you are Verizon don't even bother looking at it. And I personally don't think it is worth waiting. The S3 has gotten awesome support and is such an awesome piece of hardware that you won't regret owning it!

Phone now $400 piece of trash :(

I bought this phone a few weeks ago and let me start by saying that I LOVE it. The features, the software, the hardware, EVERYTHING. But I bought it for $400 off the marketplace and it was fine at first, but then it had signal drops (for hours at a time). I didn't notice until it was far too late to ask for a refund. I sent it to Samsung, and they "fixed" it, but I got it back and it still has the issue. I've compared it to my mom's droid charge and hers has far better signal. Verizon won't replace it, but my brother is willing to give up his upgrade. He has a feature phone and no desire to upgrade. Right now I'm looking at another S III, Droid DNA, MAXX HD, or Note 2. Which should I go for?
Have you swapped around radios? Tried different ROMs?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I am bone stock. Before I sent it in for repair I rooted, and tried every radio.
From the phone choices you picked out I would get the Note 2. If that's too big you can try another S3.
If you have a better suggestion, feel free to let me know. I hate the branded home button on the note 2 though.

I have a similar problem when making or recieving calls. For me I don't talk a lot so it is nota big deal. However you really just need to decide how inconvienient the signal issue is for you.
I would consider it a huge pain in the ass. I want my phone to work, and I'm definitely getting a new phone. I just need to decide which one.
I have also experienced call drops and poor reception in low signal areas. I'd suggest trying out a Motorola, the DNA or the Maxx.
DNA all the way. People will disagree with me because it has no SD slot and non removable battery...but if you don't need those options then I'd go with the DNA...I'm getting the DNA. HTC makes good quality phones in my opinion. Nice soft touch back, not plasticy feeling.

I have thought some more on it and I have 13 GB music, 2 GB games, plus other misc stuff, so I would say the DNA is out. The MAXX HD is an option, but the UI is heinous and there is actually 1 ROM for it. The Note II's home button should die a painful death. Any stickers for it take 3 weeks all from Hong Kong. :/ The S III is looking like my best option. Any further advice is appreciated.

My advice? Don't step into a forum that everyone in it owns a certain product and say said product is a piece of trash.
Usually doesn't go over well.
Second, if your going to complain about getting a note 2 and having to wait 3 weeks just to cover the home button so you don't see a branded logo, you've got bigger issues than a phone your not happy with.

1. Please reread the first sentence of my post (OP).
2. I didn't say that meant I wasn't getting the Note, it's just annoying. But thanks for your great wisdom.

but i love my phone and havent had any issues.
have you tried a new sim card?
Yes I did, two in fact.
word, hadnt seen it mentioned yet.
whatever path you choose i hope youre happy with the decision.
if you go another route, does VZW still offer the test drive 14 day return period? Could alawys come back to the GS3 if youre not satisfied with your new device. or sell gs3, Or you could keep the galaxy as an MP3 player.
Once I get the new phone, I'm gonna give the old one another shot at getting repaired. Then I'll test it and sell it.
Why burn an upgrade to get the same phone you already have. Low signal reception it's a know issue for the s3, especially in comparison with Motorola products.

Upgrading

Hello!
I currently own the Motorola Droid Ultra. I'm quite happy with it, but I want to upgrade.
There are quite a few new phones out there that are catching my attention, and after some extensive research I've come up that currently the best three phones are: iPhone 6, Galaxy S5, and HTC One m8. I'm not including the big devices, such as the Note or iPhone Plus. I don't really want a huge device, the 5 inch screens seems quite adequate for me. I would go for the LG G3, but I'm hearing they crack quite easily and I'm not big on covers.
The one other option is Droid Turbo, but I haven't been able to find a lot of conclusive information on it considering it's a recent release. At the moment, my choice is HTC One m8. It's a beautiful device. How does Turbo fare against it? Is it much better than the Droid Ultra?
Any and all opinions are appreciated.
Thank you.
Check out the Sony Z3. I've heard amazing things about it.

I am having a tough time deciding between Turbo and Nexus 6.
I love the looks of the Nexus and fear for the durability of the Turbo backing in 64gb Nylon.
Nexus is too big and the Turbo is in the big side as well.

Yeah the display is easily the best display I have ever seen and it is very snappy, but my maxx still looks good and its still very snappy. The turbo camera is also much much better. I'm hoping that the added raw support can add more to our cameras abilities. The extra pixels on our camera should make for very good images.
With the features coming in our lollipop update(better battery life, raw photo support) and moto updates that will bring us in line with the 2014 models it is becoming hard to justify the move right now.

I Currently have a Maxx with UL Bootloader (thank you Jcase) running 23.3.24 rooted. I'm still very happy with this phone. I was initially tempted by the Turbo, I think it's the best thing out right now and for a while to come...but I refuse to wait another 18 months to Unlock my Bootloader or get root, nor will I spend the cash on a Dev edition, if it even comes out. So I'm staying for now.

Who's Got one?

How many people have this device already?
Vodafone UK are doing a deal atm where you get a free smart watch.
Thinking of getting one of these and ditching my LG G3 D855
Also heard bootloader will be locked like on EU G3 :crying: :crying: :crying:

Got one from sprint today. Watching movies is amazing with the curved display. And one handing is easier because of the curve. Need to root it to get rid of all the sprint crap.

just got home with mine a bit ago, and all the sprint stuff is already frozen in titanium. (along with uber, ebay, nascar, basketball etc) maybe its because I use ADB a lot more often these days, but I swear it was easier/faster/more documented than when I first did it to my galaxy s3
Hi guys, those that got it on voda uk , Is this sim unlocked or locked to voda?
lg g flex 2 ..sprint
yes ...i got mine too and works great and look nice and feel good ...but ...and this is the big one...not able to surf the internet while on call...big disappointment...same problem as iPhone with sprint...tech support at sprint said the problem its with the software....lg after 5 phone calls with their technicians advice me to buy another brand phone....lol...bottom line ..phone sucks big time just because of that ...return my today ...good luck lg..life not so good....

Don't know yet as no other network sim in the house. I'll try as soon as I find another sim.
I have 32gb sprint g flex 2 in red . coming from the nexus 6 this is a much better option and for the price nothing compares. Nexus 6 has way too many issues for me i wanna gonna go note4 but with a new processor and slightly smaller screen this seemed better and i didn't even know it released yesterday .
Hopefully this phone has similar framework to the lg g3 which should hopefully mean development could be easy for it. Just porting stuff from the g3 over to this. Can't see this being a hugely popular phone for developers like the original g flex

Most likely locked coming from my past experience working in a phone shop. If not then I will be swiftly returning mine and buying the 32gb model. The extra 1gb ram should come useful with smoothness of this rom

I don't think any of the new phones do that with Sprint. It has something to do with sprint spark. Good luck finding one that does
Got mine today on O2 in the uk... Come from carphone warehouse and i got a circle case and lg bluetooth speaker with it for free.
Much better screen quality than original g flex and im loving the smaller size of this one.
Managed not to Root for 48 hours, that's a record for me.
This works like a charm for anyone interested.
