Hello, I recently had an issue with switching a kernel on CM12.1 AS3JL and had to do a wipe of my phone. I had a nandroid backup and from a CM12.0 17L build and have tried multiple times to restore from the backup either using the app(which i redownloaded), or through TWRP(tried both 2.8.7.0 and 2.8.6.0) to no avail. It tells me "E: unable to locate partition backup name: modem". then continues the restore and states it worked. Then when I finish the restore(I've tried the whole thing and single partitions at a time) it gives me the "unfortunately com.android.phone process has stopped" and it crashes and reboots and won't work unless I wipe and start stock. Any ideas?

Hi, I'm a complete noob at this so help is appreciated. I rooted my Epic 4G and have been playing around with custom ROMs. I flashed the Quantum ROM manually using clockworkMod v2.5.1.0, and the phone wouldn't get any service and took FOREVER to scan media on the SD card so I tried to restore to a previous backup also made manually. It seemed to restore ok, but when trying to boot it would get stuck on the screen with "Samsung" in large white text and the website "www . samsungmobile . com" (without spaces) directly below it.
I tried wiping the cache, and then a factory reset with clockworkmod to no effect. Every time I try to restore to backup I get the following:
Checking MD5 sums...
Restoring system...
Restoring data...
.android_secure.img not found. Skipping restore of /sdcard/.android_secure.
Restoring cache...
sd-ext.img not found. Skipping restore of /sd-ext/..
Restore complete!
I then select reboot system now, which results in the same screen. I hear the usual boot music play, but the screen never changes. Please help a confused newbie!!!
Follow the process in this post to restore to stock...

This would seem to be the best path if clockwork isn't getting you anywhere.
from there I would re-root and then apply the recovery

When you're flashing the new 2.2 roms, you need to make sure you have also flash the appropriate modem as well using odin. With Quantum rom, you will need to flash the DK17 modem in order to get your phone to work properly. Instructions on how to odin DK17 modem can be found in this thread:

Additionally, when trying to restore your phone, I would suggest doing a full wipe. I was having similar issues restoring a back-up, and it would hang-up on the samsung screen. Wiping seemed to fix this problem.
Thanks for the help! I used Odin to restore my phone to stock and it's been working since. I appreciate the help.
So I've encountered the issue once again where I get a message saying "System UI Has Crashed" and then a crash loop occurs continuously after each boot. So I went to restore my phone from a backup and found that /system, /cache, and /data were all corrupted and could not be mounted by TWRP.
Flashing the BLU_SYSTEM_0.img file using SP Flash Tool fixed the issue with /system, and wiping the cache seems to have fixed it, but I still am getting messages that TWRP can not mount /data and storage and it has been sitting on "Formatting Data using make_ext4fs..." for an extended period. I had attempted "fastboot format userdata" and that didn't fix the issue.
Will TWRP eventually correct this on its own, is there something else I should do, or is my phone just a brick?
Ive had luck letting it sit for LONG time;
but i find TWRP 2.8 seems much better and quicker with wiping...
also Ive had luck using SP FLASH tool flashing ALL parts, (using allview or gionnee complete roms)
reflashing all the partitions to fix corruptions was a pain; but it worked... then I restored a nandroid back to BLU

Reboot your phone and boot to TWRP again, then try to Wipe > Advanced Wipe > Tick "Data" only > Swipe to Wipe. If it doesn't work, reboot and keep trying until you get tired of it or it eventually works, whichever comes first.
Hello,
I was flashing Resurrection ROM on my Mi4i device and due to problems I decided to restore the nandroid backup and it worked on the first time..Next day i tried PACMAN ROM and due to same problems i again tried to switch to nandroid ...But now it wont work, when i try restoring it suddenly an error stats "E:Unable to find file system (First period)"? and recovery(TWRP) starts working for further restoring process and an error stats saying RESTORE FAILED on the top and "E:extractTarFork() process ended with ERROR=255" at the end of process...I've tried reflashing recovery and recopying backup from my pc..but nothing helped

I had the same problem when I was starting to restore the backup that was being made to the ROM stock of my phone. I started to restore successfully started Then the system successfully but then gave me error "E: Unable to find file system (first period)" and as the backup that was made of ROM stock was INICIO DATA SYSTEM AND how to restore The backup come all checked boxes, I uncheck the data box and then just checked the box started and SYSTEM restore the backup and did not give me the error I was given before, backup it with ice Recovery (TWRP) on my Alcatel Pixi 4 phone (4) I hope they function
I tried to upgrade to from Magisk V6 to V8 it messed up my phone so I restored a backup and all was fine, so I tried installing V8 a different way still failed, so restored backup again but this time I am getting errors that the system cant be mounted. I have tried repairing the system in advanced whipe but that failed so I chose change file system option and changed it to ext4 which it already was then restored backup and it lets me mount the system. But as soon as i restart my phone it just sits on the first Samgung logo screen, and does nothing and when i boot back into TWRP it is back to not mounting system.
What can I do to fix this? I need it done bercause I need my phone for work in the morning.
Hi all, my Note 2 has been running crDroid for quite sometime but this morning the network locked the phone back to AT&T. I restored my stock backup, entered my unlock code (again), and then tried restoring my crDroid backup. However, as soon as it finishes the boot sequence, it continually pops up a window saying that Google Services Framework has stopped and none of the apps will launch. I have tried restoring the backup in a few different ways:
Restore and boot.
Restore, wipe dalvik, boot.
Restore, flash the latest package of Open Gapps, boot.
Wipe internal memory, restore, boot.
I'm at a loss for why it suddenly will not work anymore after having to reflash stock. I am now using a clean install and it is working fine, but I'd like to get back to my old install so I don't have to go through all of the setup of the phone again. Any suggestions?
P.S. Anyone know why my phone relocked itself when it has been working fine?
