[Q] Epic 4G Stuck on Boot - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I'm a complete noob at this so help is appreciated. I rooted my Epic 4G and have been playing around with custom ROMs. I flashed the Quantum ROM manually using clockworkMod v2.5.1.0, and the phone wouldn't get any service and took FOREVER to scan media on the SD card so I tried to restore to a previous backup also made manually. It seemed to restore ok, but when trying to boot it would get stuck on the screen with "Samsung" in large white text and the website "www . samsungmobile . com" (without spaces) directly below it.
I tried wiping the cache, and then a factory reset with clockworkmod to no effect. Every time I try to restore to backup I get the following:
Checking MD5 sums...
Restoring system...
Restoring data...
.android_secure.img not found. Skipping restore of /sdcard/.android_secure.
Restoring cache...
sd-ext.img not found. Skipping restore of /sd-ext/..
Restore complete!
I then select reboot system now, which results in the same screen. I hear the usual boot music play, but the screen never changes. Please help a confused newbie!!!

Follow the process in this post to restore to stock...

This would seem to be the best path if clockwork isn't getting you anywhere.
from there I would re-root and then apply the recovery

When you're flashing the new 2.2 roms, you need to make sure you have also flash the appropriate modem as well using odin. With Quantum rom, you will need to flash the DK17 modem in order to get your phone to work properly. Instructions on how to odin DK17 modem can be found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849753
Additionally, when trying to restore your phone, I would suggest doing a full wipe. I was having similar issues restoring a back-up, and it would hang-up on the samsung screen. Wiping seemed to fix this problem.

Thanks for the help! I used Odin to restore my phone to stock and it's been working since. I appreciate the help.

[Q] PLEASE HELP android phone keeps on formatting itself on reboot.

I have a Samsung Conquer 4g and I have ran into a huge problem as the title tells itself. I tried flashing the new FC17 2.3.6 update for it and now the phone shows the first start up screen than immediately goes to clockworkmod recovery. I tried restoring a backup of the whole phone I made a couple of days ago and that still doesn't work. Than I also tried extracting the .img files from the backup and tried pushing those folders into the phone but it still doesnt work. Any help? I will also provide with any other information needed. Thanks.

[Q] Boot loop problem after restore to stock 2.3.5 backup from custom ROM 4.3.1

Hi,
First time posting Reasonably Nooby...-ish to hacking around with android but pretty techy in general and have done a lot of reading to try and fix this myself before posting.
Setup: HTC Desire S, ClockworkMod ver 5.8.1.5, HBOOT 2.00.0002 S-ON Unlocked bootloader
I have been running the stock firmware Gingerbread 2.3.5 from new (rooted by me) running CWM Recovery ver 5.8.1.5. I took out my SD card and put a blank one in (possibly stupidly, didn't re-format first), I took a nandroid backup of the phone. Rebooted then changed a few phone settings/apps and restored the backup to test it was okay, and it worked fine.
I then flashed a custom rom (Carbon_4.3.1_1114_saga.zip) and (gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip) from the same sd card, cleared all cache, dalvik, data etc which boots and works fine except that I have major issues with the sound in that it doesnt ring, no notification sounds and terrible in call audio, so have restored my backup through CWM.
As soon as I restored my backup and reboot, the phone goes into a boot loop where by it tries to boot showing the white HTC screen, the screen then goes black it then boots into ClockworkMod Restore. I tried clearing all data, cache, dalvik cache but it made no difference. I have tried a number of things including;
I then tried flashing boot.img to the phone from my nandroid backup in fastboot but again that made no difference.
I read through and followed the boot loop post on here but that made no differnce either.
I tried copying all data off sd card, formatting (through windows) and copying data back, no difference (more of a desperation attempt).
I can flash the custom ROM back to the phone and it boots again into that rom fine
One thing to note which may or may not have anything to do with this at all, is that when I originally wiped the dalvik cache before installing the custom ROM: from my memory, it did so with no errors. Now as soon as I select wipe Dalvik cache in CWM before even confirming to wipe, I get an error: "E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]", however when I do a "wipe data/factory reset" in CWM it shows it wipes /sd-ext. (this part is something I have not much knowledge on).
I cant help thinking theres something I've missed or can do that will get this to suddenly boot. Any help would be really appreciated as I've put a lot of hours/late nights into this so far and would now really like a fully working phone back.
As a side note; I believe from reading, putting a stock RUU update back on will solve the problem but after devoting a lot of hours trying to find one for my phone, I've not had much luck as nothing on HTCdev any more and cant find one for UK on Orange (now EE). And a lot of old links are now dead. As a side question does it have to be the firmware that my carrier sent out exactly for my country, I've read you can extract the rom.zip file from the RUU.exe so could I flash one that is world wide or a uk from another network provider or my network provider from another country, and then restore my backup to my own one, would that actually work/make any difference or just fail?
Thanks for any help

"Encryption Failed" - Phone Will Not Factory Reset

After searching through countless threads on this site, I've had no avail in resetting my Rogers Samsung Galaxy S6 running XtreStoLite 2.2.
A little while ago, I thought it would be a good idea to encrypt my phone with a custom ROM installed. I knew I had recovery and download mode, so I thought It'd be no biggie. Left the phone on overnight encrypting, came back 24 hours later and knew that it hung somewhere. Booted it up and this screen came up: Reset it and restored from TWRP backup, the same screen right here came up: http ://i.imgur.com/J37aZaq .png (sorry XDA will not let me post links, remove spaces) after this, I tried pressing the "reset device" button without success. It just rebooted the phone. Tried to restore from a different backup, no avail, then I tried to flash my custom ROM again through TWRP, no avail. I download ODIN and flashed stock Samsung firmware onto it and it still gave me this screen when I was done. Tried going into TWRP and factory resetting (where it wipes all partitions) and nothing happened. Currently, I'm trying to flash my Samsung Galaxy S6 with the stock firmware through ODIN with the "re-parition" box checked.
It seems there's a hardware flag of some sort stopping this from working. I mean, my file system is brand new, reset to factory defaults, I even checked with ADB and everything has been formatted. Checked with TWRP file manager and everything is good. But I can't get past the "Encryption Failed" screen.
Help me! Thanks.
fix
did you fix this?
Hi, i am encountering the same problem with my G920F.
I have the XtreStoLite_Deo_Mod_v.2.3 and also TWRP installed
I started encrypting but it got stuck so i rebooted my phone and got the same message (Encryption failed, please do a factory reset). So i did the reset but the same screen appeared. I also tried restoring from a back-up from TWRP but the same screen was still there. So i decided to do a full wipe and restore the phone with a twrp back up witch was on my laptop. But when i am in TWRP i can not copy files to (or from) my phone. So it is not possible to get the backup on my phone. I am able to get in to download mode and connect the phone with odin.
My questions are :
- what was the solution to the problem?
- What causes the copying error? And what is the solution? So i can put the backup on my phone and try to restore it this way.
- What are my option with odin? Can i use the TWRP files in odin?
Thanks a lot in advance
Jules
Solved the issue. After a full wipe i installed a stock firmware with odin. It still displayed encryption failed after reboot. But after the factory reset the notification was gone.
I have fixed this
Best solution is on a stock rom to reset. If rooted with recovery -format and wipe all data, reset, let sit at boot for a while, go into recovery and install new rom from USB-OTG, or odin from download mode.

Xperia mini issue - recovering from boot loop - how to recover data

Ok, so I asked this in XDA Assist but can't post reply there.
This is what happened on my Xperia mini St15i, with firmware 4.1.B.0.587:
1. I turned on Bluetooth and the phone got stuck in infinite boot loop - apparently this is a known bug.
2. I decided to try out CM 9. Installed CWM Recovery and did backup on sd card and flashed CM.
3. I remembered that I did the backup earlier so I thought maybe there is a way to keep my apps and data.
4. I went back to CWM and restored from backup. CM didn't boot then, so I flashed back stock rom with flashtool and booted the phone. The apps and data was there( at least for one app which was very important), but contacts and messages were gone.
So my question is, is there a way to recover ALL user data from the backup? I don't care if it's on stock rom or CM at this point.
I hope some of you knowledgeable people can help!
Many thanks,
Paul
Can someone please help. :crying:
I managed to restore it with all the data by trial and error (I don't know HOW). Then at night the phone lost battery and is back to rebooting forever.
If I restore all via CWM and then flash stock, it boots up saying "Android is upgrading" and then keeps rebooting.
If I do a factory reset via CWM and flash stock rom, the phone is back to factory setting with no data.
WHICH partitions should I recover and which should I flash to retain the data??? HELP :crying:
