Hello, I have had DL mode work several times before by removing card/battery then holding the Up/Dn buttons and inserting the cable but now it just has that circle thing in the center of my screen and then the battery image comes up. Here is whats weird, I can:
1) I can update with Kies
2) Removable disk works in both mass storage and in Debugging mode.
3) I can open Odin3 in debugging mode (not mounted) and it shows the yellow [COM] port.
Any Ideas?
Please post this question in one of the many threads already devoted to the subject of download mode and how to achieve it. We don't need any more open discussions on this topic.
here is thread with many methods for download mode
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775911
Excerpt from this thread: How to unbrick the totally bricked Captivate
5. Hold volume up + volume down + Power.
6. Insert battery.
7. Release POWER BUTTON ONLY.
You should now be in immediate download mode.
Also, can you "adb reboot download"?
I have seen the ADB but dont understand the prosses.
Method 1 (ADB - from recovery or normally booted with usb debugging on)
1. Open a cmd prompt/console/shell
2. adb shell
3. adb reboot download
You have to download the android-sdk file: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Once that is done, open up the command prompt and navigate to where the adb.exe is. Then perform the adb reboot download.
Normally booted with usb debugging on.

tried all the steps at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001759
but phone won't go into download mode. it just keeps bringing the battery sign on the screen and it starts charging. I can go to recovery mode if i hold power buttton, but holding just the volume buttons does nothing except bring it to a charge. How do I get back to download mode?
i tried posting in the relevant forum, but for some reason you can't post in certain forums unless you have 10 posts
when you say tried all the steps, what does that include?
here are a few methods that I know work 100% even in the event of a soft brick.
pull batt, replace batt
while holding vol up + vol down plug in USB, that should bring you to download mode
another way is using terminal from computer with handset plugged in and turned on
Code:
cd c:\android-sdk-windows\tools
adb reboot download
Here's how you do it.
1. Turn your phone off
2. Hold Up Volume, then Down Volume
3. While holding both Up and Down Volumes at the same time, plug in phone to computer
and there you go, download mode
when i say "tried all", i mean all the methods above (Except the cmd method because my computer doesn't recognize that path and I don't know where the SDK is installed). But all the volume up/volume down methods do nothing - my phone just charges when i plug in the usb cord (i.e., a battery pops up).
tried the cmd method as well but get the error:
"Adb is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
so, in summary, still can't get into download mode

check the link http://www.xda-developers.com/android/android-2-2-froyo-unveiled-sdk-available-now/
download sdk extract and put in root of C: drive. You should have a folder named android-sdk-windows
then run commands
I can't get my stupid Captivate to go into download mode no matter what I do (short of buying a jig, which I can't do right now) and I think I've erased CWM while getting rid of the useless CM7 for MIUI. Can I take a risk of flashing a stock ROM without download mode or CWM ? Is it possible ? If yes, how do I do it and what are the risks involved ?
Thanks !
if you cant get into download mode or recovery there is no way.
but dont worry. youre just doing something wrong.
every captivate WILL go into download or recovery mode.
Instructions for recovery mode:
have phone shut off
hold both volume buttons
press and hold power button
KEEP ALL 3 BUTTONS HELD for 3-5 seconds after screen comes on
after kernel bootscreen you will see clockwork recovery menu

ADVANCED METHODS - REQUIRE HARDWARE MODIFICATIONS OR MORE IN-DEPTH TECHNIQUES
I'm presenting these largely unedited, as I don't want to incorrectly type an important detail of something that I don't understand myself.
- Apply UnBrickable mod to your device, then remove the battery, insert the battery, and click the "Download Mode" button on the computer
- Use UART (619Kohm resistor between USB pins 4-5, D+=RX, D-=TX, 192500bps 8n1 comms), press and hold ENTER while booting, then type USB
One additional thing - your download mode screen should, normally, look like the yellow triangle with the Android guy digging. However, if a flash goes foul somehow, you may be left with the infamous "phone--/!\--PC" screen. If you see this, don't panic. Although it's not technically the download mode screen, many users (including myself) have been able to successfully flash from that screen. Give it a try.
A quick setup for ADB without the whole android dev kit link in my sig.

Problem Description:
When I connect my HTC Explorer to PC using Data Cable NOTHING HAPPENS ,It Just CHARGES and the Menu doesn't open up.
Even When I tried USB Tethering by going into setings Manually .It says "Unable to Turn On" .I can no longer transfer files from phone to PC .
Have you tried
1. Reinstalling HTC Sync and Drivers
2. Rebooting and Hard Reset
3. Flashing Custom ROM's
4. Using Different Data Cables
But still NO LUCK !!!
First Let's Check Whether it's a Hardware Problem (NOT NECESSARY)
1. Go into Bootloader and then to Fastboot Menu
2. Connect your Phone to PC
3. Now the Phone should Read as "Fastboot USB"
4. Try this Fastboot Command "FASTBOOT DEVICES"
5. If your Phone is Shown in the list ,It's Just a Software Problem and Continue Reading this thread
.If not ,then it's mostly a Hardware Issue
Solution:
1. Download PDANet on your phone (NOT THE APK) (This is for USB Tethering)
2. Connect your Phone using Data cable with Windows Logged On (Nothing will happen)
3. Restart your PC (DONT remove your Phone)
4. As soon as PC starts up ,you'll see the Menu on your Phone that used to appear (You'll see Disk Drive,USB Tetheing....)
5. Make Sure USB Debugging is ON
6. When you're logged into Windows, Select Disk Drive from the Menu on your phone
7. Wait and you're Memory Card will be recoginsed on PC
8. Open PDAnet.exe from Memory Card and Install
USB Tethering will now work (If still not working ,go into settings->wireless and networks->mobile networks->access point names and try changing access point ,then try PDANet again)
This WORKED for me ,:good:
So Next time ,Follow Step 2,3,4 and 5
Then After you log on, Choose Anything you want from Menu on Phone.
I doubt USB Tethering will work directly .But you can use it from PDANet.:good:
Hello
I got simple problem with my HTC ONE S 4. When I plug phone to my computer (and turn on "Connect via USB) nothing happens.
This instruction also does't work.
1. Developer>Disable USB debugging.
2. Reboot.
3. Connect to PC.
4. Settings>Storage, press the overflow button (three dots).
