For the past couple of days, I've been reading numerous threads on how to tether on Sprint's Touch Pro 2 (Stock WM6.5). I ultimately decided to go with the latest WMWiFiRouter program trial (I'll purchase it if it works out good.) What I am confused about is, do I need to install the ICS_and_WModem_Fix.cab prior to installing WMWifiRouter, so that I can stealth tether? I don't want Sprint charging me. Also, do I need to do any of the reg edits if I plan on using WMWifiRouter? Thanks!

Nope just install and go. I've tested with the stock rom and it worked great.
AstainHellbring - I'll take your advice and install only the WMWifiRouter without installing any of the cabs. Thank you sir!
If this helps I've used wmwifirouter for a year or so on my verizon tp2 and I used USBmodem before that on my HTC Touch and never got charged anything for either, I'm guessing it'd be the same thing for sprint.
I was able to tether using the 3G to Wifi connection, without any issue. However, I am somewhat confused as to the steps to follow when tethering via 3G to USB. I don't have ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center on my laptop. Is it necessary to install this in order to tether using a 3G to USB (wired) connection with WMWifiRouter? I tried to tether (without running ActiveSync) this way by first starting the 3G to USB connection. After it finished loading and was ready to connect, I connected the USB cable from my phone to the laptop and Windows7 automatically loaded the RNDIS drivers. A connection was established and it allowed me to tether. What I'm confused about is, what am I supposed to select on the phone when it prompts me, (ActiveSync, DiskDrive or Internet Sharing)? And would selecting that option allow me to tether stealth? Lastly, when stopping the service, do I stop the tether from the program first and then disconnect the cable from the laptop or is there something else I need to do?

activesync or mobile device center is required to use wmwifirouter as it contains the drivers needed (vista and 7 have the MDC drivers and backend included, the extra thin gyo uinstall is just the GUI frontend)
when the dialog pops up asking if you want activesync, disk drive or internet sharing it doesnt matter what you choose, wmwifirouter will override the choice with its own connection
as for disconnecting, ive never had any issues with any means of disconnection (IE unplugging first or closing the app first)
Thank you defaultdotxbe. So if my laptop is running Windows 7, I don't need to install ActiveSync/Mobile Device Center since Windows 7 has the MDC drivers and backend included? If so, I guess that explains why I was able to tether without ActiveSync.
Personally, I noticed that the speed is higher when tethering with the USB cable compared to Wifi tethering. The phone also seems to get less warm.
Have any of you guys been able to compare the speed/stability tethering via USB using WMWifiRouter compared to USB tethering with the built in ICS?
the biggest difference ive found is that whenever the connection is lost with ICS you can reconnect the app, with wmwifirouter is automatically goes back to waiting for connection and reconnects without me having to do anything
and it gets less warm because just the cellular radio is going with USB, with wifi cellular and wifi are going (which also drains the battery faster)
wifi is nice when you just want to jump on for 5 minutes and look something up real quick, with USB im able to tether for 12 hours straight and still have 100% battery when im done

Don't try pushing the connection too hard then because mine dies/overheats a few times a day because I have it connected (usb) to my computer 24/7 for torrents... I've even tried putting a fan directly on the battery and it still locks up/dies at least twice a day.
Papaprem when it asks you how to handle the phone you don't have to do anything it will close on it's own in a few seconds.
em0rox, youre right, it does close on its own. Only problem is, it was using the stock IntShr.exe instead of the IntShrUI.exe file. The stock IntShr.exe file doesnt have the Network Connection selection box for Sprint/Phone As Modem. It just has the PC Connection box for USB or Bluetooth. Here is what I mean:
IntShr -

I basically had to make a copy of IntShrUI and rename it to IntShr.exe. Then I overwrote the stock IntShr.exe file with the renamed one. Now everything is good.

never had an issue, i dont use it for torrents or anything heavy though, just typical web browsing without having to worry about my office's proxy blocking me
i have occasionally had it overheat, but never lock up or anything (the LED flashes green and orange and the battery wont charge, i unplug it for a few mins and plug it back in and all is well)

Why bother with WMWiFiRouter when the HTC Wi-Fi Router program works just as well (and doesn't cost a thing)?
WMWifiRouter also allows USB and Bluetooth connections. It doesn't require any regedits also.
Simply want to know if I can tether my Blackberry 9700 with an unlimited data plan to the Motorola Xoom I just pre-ordered.
Anyone here with a Blackberry been able to do this so far?
Any help or a point in the right direction would be great! Thanks in advance!
Well the Blackberry can tether over bluetooth, right? There's a huge thread on how to tether over Bluetooth.

I did see that thread and go through all 8 pages. There was one mention of a BB but there was no confirmation of it working on the Xoom.
Any information about this is welcome. If it connects over BT that's awesome!

The Xoom definitely has been confirmed to tether over Bluetooth from Android and iPhones, but I'm not 100% on BB. Don't know why it wouldn't though.
I'm interested in this as well. But unfortunately I can never get my xoom to connect to my BB torch, although it pairs fine.

From what I read, once it pairs you should see a "Wrench" symbol in the Xoom next to where you see the BB. What happens when you hit that?
The real problem with trying to BT tether the xoom with a bb (I tried with my bold 9700) is that the DUN (Dial-Up Networking) profile is not recognized/supported between the xoom and the bb. This specific kinf of bluetooth profile/protocpl is what allows you to use the phone as a modem by dialing the "data" number (ex *99***1# on GSM phones)...until someone creates a bt dun application for the android, I don't think it will be possible to bt tether the xoom to the bb.
Don't know if this will work for the Xoom, but this is apparently the Blackberry to Ipad tethering process (let me know if this works, btw):
I’m not a Blackberry user at all, but I thought this was interesting as RIM still sells a heck of a lot of phones I’m sure there are a lot of iPad users who own Blackberry’s. A user of just such a combo on the Crackberry Forums came up with a method to tether a Jailbroken iPad to his Blackberry. It doesn’t give you quite 3G speeds, but some internet is better than none!
NOTES
This will not give you 3G speeds. Bluetooth DUN using PDAnet gives about 50kB/s. Faster than edge, but half as fast as 3G. Thats fine by me, as I won’t have to pay for additional data plan to verizon.
If you are being redirected to verizon website, ensure that ‘dial up networking’ is disabled in your blackberry bluetooth options.
These instructions are for Verizon, for directions on other mobile carriers, please go here for reference.
Requirements
Jailbroken iPad
Blackberry phone (tested with blackberry storm 9530)
ibluever: Install from Cydia (you can try the demo for free. if demo works, ensure to uninstall before installing paid release)
PDAnet: PdaNet — Use your BlackBerry as a USB Modem (click ‘install pdanet 1.30′ only)
1. Run ibluever from your iPad
2. Click ‘ON’ You should be able to see your phone
3. Click on blue arrow of your device to edit the following fields
pin code: 0000 (or any combination of numbers)
dial number: #777 (for verizon wireless)
chat script: default non GPRS (refer to link at bottom for reference as to what options to choose)
Authentication: On
Sniff Mode: Off
Waiting SDP: On
4. Go to your blackberry bluetooth options menu and DISABLE ‘dial up networking’ and click save

6. Open ibluever from your iPad, select your blackberry device and run
7. You should now see two icons on upper right status bar of your iPad and be able to access the web.
You may need this installed on the XOOM:
Cobalt Blue - "This is tethering application using BT-DUN, root is not required. Android2.1 more is required because it uses Bluetooth."

I will try both methods once the Xoom arrives. Doing some more research I came across this app, http://tether.com/blackberry/download
Does anyone have experience with this app in particular?
PDAnet is essentially a client that would need to be run on both devices to create a BT DUN profile. Currently, PDAnet for android is designed as the "server" end of the client to pipe its own 3G internet to a laptop. As far as I know, there is no PDAnet "client" for android devices. It basically looks like CobaltBlue does the same thing as PDAnet.
I have NO IDEA if the following post that I found on amazon is in ANY WAY related to the tethering problem but here you go:
This keyboard was tested with Galaxy Tab and Motorola Xoom. It works with both. It works with any device that uses HID bluetooth profile. It will not work with devices that use SPP bluetooth profile. Blackberry and many android phones use SPP profile. So, you need to check with the manufacturer before buying the keyboard.

It is related to a BT keyboard (obviously) but since it states different BT connection profiles maybe someone else can use this information and see whether it might help with the tethering problem.

Okay so I got a chance to experiment today. You're super right. Anyone know of a "client" for Android to use with PDAnet on BB.
Any other methods of accomplishing tether is welcome!

You can bluetooth tether it. Just sync the devices, go to the xoom and click the lil wrench after they are conneted and select tethering.
Edit (Forget this post, this is how i tether my MT4G to Xoom. Dont know if this will work with BB)
Does anyone know how to get CobaltBlue. I live in the US and when I try to downland it for my Xoom, it says not available for my carrier.
No go on my BB 9630. After pairing, on the BB under the bluetooth device properties for the xoom, the only available services are Voice Gateway, OBEX Object Push, and AVRCP TG.
I'm a Tether for BB owner as well. I noticed people expressing interest in the forums at tether.com, but as of yet, no client-side piece for android. Maybe if more of us go there and express interest he'll make it higher on his priority list.
I know somewhere in the world it probably caused a YouTube kitten to die, but I successfully tethered my laptop to my blackberry, then used connectify.me to fake an ad-hoc on my laptop and connected to it with my MZ604.
I feel like I need a shower.

But will the xoom connect to an ad-hoc wireless signal without the wireless patch/hack? My suspicion is no....
No, but that's an android limitation, not a Xoom limitation. Iirc it was android bug id 84 or 86 or something. But connectify.me is free and dead simple to use.
I have tried using PDANet on BB9700 on AT&T and without any modifications on BB (as mentioned in this thread - disabling Dial Up networking) does not work. Clicking on the wrench on the Xoom does not bring up the Tether option.
The CobaltBlue app mentioned above does not install from the market. Will try to side load that. Will also try by disabling the Dial up networking option in BB and post results.
I have just got a Galaxy Tab 2... been playing with it for a few hours now and I have to say I am impressed!!
One thing I would like to be able to do is create a Wifi Hotspot so that I can connect some mobile phones to it to play games with my mates. I cannot seem to find any option to setup the Portable Hotspot though in the settings menus?
I don't need an active data connection, just the ability to effectively use the Tab 2 as a router so it creates a wireless network. Is this possible in any way?

I forgot to mention that my tab is the 3100 (3G version....)
I have the GT-P3110 version... this may be why then. Your model number shows as the 3G version.
I get the same screen layout as 'klausdieter79' above
So does this mean it cannot be done?
You are asking how to turn the WIFI only version of the tab into a hotspot so other devices can connect to the WIFI as well?
Am I missing the obvious here?

I think that it should not be so difficult for samsung to provide this option to the wifi version.....pitty!!
I dont think this is possible. Wifi tethering serves to share a internet connection. I get what you want to do - you want to create a network so that people can play over a network. But i think they did not include this feature on the wifi version of the TAB 2, since it would not make sense sharing internet through wifi if your device ony has wifi.
oh man
This is a joke or something? If you are connected to a wi fi router, and your mates phones are in the same room with you, whats the point in connecting the phones to your tablet, and not to the same router that your tablet it's connected already? If it's a joke,it's not a good one.Cheers!
@viasat you are a joke.

Do you think 50€ for one week is a good price to use wlan in a hotel? I don't think so. That's why it is no non-sense to me.

Why don't you just get one of your friends to create a hotspot and connect to their network?
In a word: no.
You need two radios to bridge and create a hotspot. This is why you can bridge a GSM or CDMA radio to WLan.
Commercial WLan bridges use two separate radio chips to accomplish what you want to do.
I carry both a small DLink portable router/WiFi that allows me to share a wired connection to a bunch of wireless devices and I have a small cheapo netbook that has an extra USB WiFi connection so I can create a WLan bridge.
Or, you can buy and carry a commercial or consumer WiFi bridge that can accomplish the same thing.
So, for the time being, either suck it up and pay the cost or bring the proper equipment. Sorry for being crass, but the tablet can't do it if it's a WiFi only unit.

You haven't understood the original question mate. I want to use the Galaxy Tab 2 as a router.
I didn't mention anything about having a data connection to share... I just want it to act as a central hub to connect other devices to so that gaming can be done across that 'network' NO DATA NEEDED!!

I can create a WLAN bridge with my home router that only has one radio in it (as far as I know anyway). You don't need two radios, but you need drivers that are setup to do what they want, and I doubt you'll find many consumer devices meant to act as a router. Maybe you could setup an adhoc network, but turning the tablet into a true router won't work without a lot of hacking.
There are other reasons to want to use the Tab 2 as a Wifi hotspot:
I want to use the Tab 2 as a touch controller for the Ableton Live DAW. The Android controller app that I want to use requires the tablet to be a hot spot.
Is there a way to setup the Tab 2 as an adhoc network?

I know this is an old thread but I do have a solution..
I use this app called " software data cable "
It creates a wifi hotspot to connect between devices.. Even on a wifi only galaxy tab 2
Here's is how you do it
Install the app "software data cable"
Click on" sync phone" tab
Click on "connect with friends" button
On the pop up - select " create direct push network "
You'll get a message "tethering / wifi hotspot active "
I believe this will solve all your problems.
I've had this amazing tablet for 2 weeks now but sadly I seem to have an infuriating Wi Fi issue.
It connects fine
The reception is excellent
When I download large files (ie the data for a game), the network just drops out and reconnects. When I'm not downloading anything sizeable, it's fine.
Any ideas?
*Shameless bumpski*!
Is "Power Saving" on? If so, turn it off. Other than that, maybe it's your router? I haven't had the same issue with my Note 10.1, either at home or on the road.

Try changing the channel on your router. Usually 1 and 6 are the best.
Thanks for both of your replies.
So - it continues - I've tried all the channels on my router now (BT Home Hub 3) and it still disconnects when downloading large files only. Power saving is off also!
I phoned Samsung - they didn't know and said that it was mostly likely a rare faulty unit. So - I've taken it back to the shop and I've just been given a brand new one.
Guess what. SAME THING! Grrr. So it can't be the device, it must just be a weird incompatibility with my router? Any other ideas or know of any apps that might help me resolve this?
The only other thing is to wait for the JB upgrade and hope that fixes it :/
Right further developments - when I connect to a hotspot like starbucks (where the connection speed is limited), I can download HUGE files and it never disconnects.
So therefore either the Note 10.1 doesn't like an 85mb connection or it's the only device in my house that hates my router....
Annoying though! Still would appreciate any thoughts on the matter.
Get a different router...sorry, someone had to say it.

Useful.
I've actually slowed the router down from wifi b/g/n to just b/g and now the tablet works perfectly fine.
So obviously there's an issue with the wireless-n on the note because all my other devices work fine at this rate.
I hope JB will fix that.
I have no issues with the Wi-Fi on this tablet, I'm quite pleased with the dual band.

Yeah, sounds like something with the N implementation of your router not getting along with the Note. I have a Netgear N300 router I bought in the spring, and the Note has no problems running on it in N. I get blazing fast speeds, and haven't had problems with file transfers of any size (I've moved a few 1.5GB movies over the network to it).
Is your current router an older model? Many of them were labelled "draft-N", and the implementation may not be totally correct for N devices. Also, try updating your router firmware if possible, and if that doesn't work give one of the alternative router firmwares (Tomato or DD-WRT for example) a try.

Thanks - well this is the funny thing. When N is on, it connects perfectly and until it 'conks out' it downloads at an incredible speed. Then reconnects!
The router is a British Telecom special and sadly I'm kind of locked to it as it's not a standard ADSL model, rather a fibre optic one and they don't come easily in the UK (afaik). It's not draft-N either...it's just a final implementation of N!
The wireless has a 40Mhz option with N but that seemed to do the same. It's only when I knock N out it's alright.
Exact Same Issue
I have the exact same issue. Only drops out at N speeds with large file transfer. Starts off fine, getting great speeds of almost 4 mb / s, but then just stops.
If I switch n file transfer off, it works fine, but at much slower speeds around 1 mb / s
I am using a zoom 5350 cable modem / router - the firmware is updated by the cable supplier which is Comcast.
Anyone have any ideas here? I also returned my first note to as I thought this was a hardware flaw, but new one I got yesterday does the same.

Update - shockingly, unplugging the cable modem / router and powering it back up now has transfers working at full n speed with no dropouts. Software glitch with the cable companies firmware update perhaps that reset??
Anyway, after having a good 25 attempts drop out before this, every attempt has worked fine since power on/off of modem/router.

No way! That's bizarre!! Good to know it's not just me.....I will try a full reset of my modem/router and see what happens.
If this fixes it, I will kiss your face.
Hello,
So I recently started to use the LTE version of this watch even when I have it since a while ago, waiting to use it because of problems to connect with my previous phone (too old I guess)
And I have some doubts that might result stupid for some people. Those concern mainly to the best way to use the watch to save battery, but I am aware that are several tutorials to maximize battery life.
I can think more or less of 3 major different situations where you can use the watch and the phone in different ways. Out of BT range, in BT range but using the watch, in BT range but using the phone. I explain:
-First and clearest one. Imagine you are at home and you think about going out to run an errand. You go out, you leave your phone at home, you use your watch, activating mobile data and mobile connection so you can receive calls, messages and notifications. This is ok
-Now, imagine you are at home but you cannot use your hands or you cannot have your phone with you, but is within Bluetooth range. What’s the best way to connect them in this case in terms of battery saving? Bluetooth + airplane mode, or just data and mobile connected (Bluetooth off).
If it’s the first way, how come no Bluetooth quick access is in the watch to toggle BT connection?
-The last scenario would be in BT range but using the phone. In this case, I think that switching on Airplane mode makes sense for the clock.
I am not sure if all this makes sense because I am not sure how the watch is thought to be used. But I believe that if any of this makes sense a Bluetooth Toogle should be available in the quick panel.
Any Ideas?

there is a bluetooth toggle available. go into the edit quick settings setup and add it to the active toggles.

Hello!
The only thing available in mine is "Audio bluetooth", which only allows to search for devices to connect audio and that switches on the bt in case it's off, but you cannot use it to switch it off, nor to enter the menu where the bt toggle is.

Even though, what in your opinion is the best way to connect both the phone and the watch when they are together ?

I'm not totally sure what you trying to accomplish here. Here is how my LTE watch is connected. Just like with a non-LTE version the watch is connected to the phone (S22 Ultra) via the Samsung Wearable app. So when the watch and the phone are in BT range of each other they are connected via BT. When they aren't the watch will automatically try the known Wi-Fi and / or an LTE connection. When back in range of each other the watch connects back to the phone and turns off LTE and / or Wi-Fi. I think in most use cases this is the normal expected behavior. The watch will use the phone as it's primary data / location source. When out or range of the phone it will turn on Wi-Fi, LTE or both. Therefore the user doesn't really need to "do" anything. Granted you can turn off LTE or Wi-Fi so they don't turn on automatically which might save some battery when connected to the phone but, then you have to turn them on when away from the phone which for me isn't worth the hassle. So I just leave it all on automatic and let it go.

So, if I understand well what you mean: The watch does not waste any kind of energy in wifi/data and mobile connection when it is within BT range with all those activated, right? And in case a call enters, the connection would be only through BT.
Even though, I belive a quick acces to toggle BT connection would be useful, since you can deactivate it in the same way you turn off wifi connection when you are afar from your smartphone, for the watch no to search for those connections all the time...

Correct, on my Watch 4 LTE it only "looks" for those alternate (LTE/Wi-Fi) connections when the phone is out of BT range (or if the phone itself has no data connection like in an elevator).
And I agree with you on the quick toggles., They should function similar to what's found on the phone, off, on and long press to enter the main setting menu. Unfortunately that isn't the case. Another reason I just leave it on auto and let it do its thing. No matter what I do I need to charge every other day, so it doesn't much matter.
LTE (DATA) and Wi-Fi need to be set to automatic. I do believe they can be toggled to be always on, but why would you want that unless you checking something. No matter what you do battery is going to drain like crazy on mobile data, Wi-Fi isn't hateful but its still significantly more that just BT.

Agree, we definitely could use a quick access toggle for BT connection. Not for battery, but for management and convenience! Cheers
I don't have LTE but I do leave the WiFi on auto and it only turns on when the phone BT is out of range. I do need to turn off BT from settings when I want to use ADB on the watch. Because BT is near, that is the only way you can get the watch to connect to WiFi.
Interesting info. Thank you all for your comments.
