Reactivation Lock stays enabled no matter what I try - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

Hi,
I bought a S6 on craigslist, I have the samsung account username and password of the previous owner, it allows me to factory reset. No matter what I do after whether remove the account and hard reset, the reactivation lock comes back every time. After I remove the samsung account, it wont let me add a new samsung account, I click it and it goes no where. I go into Find My Mobile and I can uncheck remote control, google location service, but when i go to switch reactivation lock to off it prompts for password, I put it in, it accepts it, and then remains enabled no matter what. Any ideas?

[Q] Samsung Account Problems

I was looking to flash my girlfriends S6 to a custom rom and at some point made a mistake, getting the error "Custom binary blocked by activation lock" and being unable to boot the device. At this point I flashed the device to stock firmware and then the phone booted fine, I type in the activation email and password (in which the wrong email had been used and needed to be changed when originally set up) and it let me in fine. Then, I got a notification asking me to confirm the email which wouldn't work because it's the wrong email, so I selected sign out. Now it wont allow me to add a samsung account or access any samsung account related things, and not allowing me to turn off activation lock or change the account. I'm not sure what to do..
I recently discovered when I go to "Add an Account" there is a blank space selected that is likely the previous account.
I then went to application manager and disabled and cleared the cache of Samsung Accounts and also Samsung Applications, and enabled them again with no luck.
Log in to your account from pc and deactivate reactivation lock.

I cant because I would need to confirm the email (That doesnt exist).

Bypass Samsung Reactivation Lock

I have successfully bypassed the reactivation lock on my brother's Samsung S6 running 5.1.1 (VZW)
1.) Use OTG cable and launch settings (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ8_qbj1DPQ)
2.) Open Accounts and add Google account
3.) Open Lock Screen and Security
4.) Open Find My Mobile
5.) Click http://findmymobile.samsung.com ( it will open up a browser)
6.) Search Google Play Store and launch it
7.) Google Play Store opens up and then search for KNOX and install it
8.) Launch KNOX and Register
9.) Now search for a launcher like APEX and when it is done click open (should take you to home launcher)
10.) Open up KNOX and MORE and KNOX Settings in the upper right
11.) Click Account
12.) Add SAMSUNG account ( I also added google account but dont think its needed)
13.) I then set KNOX stlye to Launcher and it restarted the UI
14.) On the Samsung Protection screen Log into the samsung account you signed into with in KNOX
You should be logged back into your phone
Confirmed working...thank you. But it doesn't seem to let you turn reactivation lock off so you can hard reset the device and not run into that sign in page again. When i go to turn off reactivation lock it prompts for my password and then just kicks me back into the "find my mobile" page with the reactivation lock toggle in the "on" position again. when i delete the Samsung account it says that it will turn reactivation lock off, but now all of the toggles are grayed out, including reactivation lock, which is still in the "on" position. Is there a way to turn it off after it is bypassed?

Thats weird. I was given the option to turn it off after I signed in. I also did a lot of other stuff like install Samsung+, froze setup wizard and other things I cannot remember and to my surprise I bypassed it. I dont have the phone anymore to play with.

Im not sure if you were using the same login once you bypassed the reactivation lock. Which may be why you were able to turn it off. I unfortunately am trying to bypass it because a phone was returned to me and the person had set up the reactivation lock and then hard reset the phone through recovery. So i am using a different email than the account that reactivation lock was originally set up on.
If anyone has any other methods to turn off reactivation lock it would be appreciated. Thanks.

It was a new account. My brother bought the phone on craigslist and factory reset it. It was locked so I did the above method and it worked.

oh wow. then maybe something else you did worked. i am unable to turn off reactivation lock. i was able to get back into the phone and past the setup page where it prompts for the login, so that DID work and i thank you for that. Im just not able to turn reactivation lock off completely. I think that even though i bypassed it with my new account, the old users account is still on there and until i can sign in with their information and delete that account it'll be grayed out and in the "on" position.

This is GREAT. So, I've moved forward a little bit. Was able to register my samsung account and thereby log into the phone via samsung reactivation lock! So, that's a start. I did run into the issue of still not being able to toggle off reactivation. So, I logged into FindMyMobile and found that the reactivation lock" command works, attempting to disable the lock via find my mobile would send back an error stating it couldn't contact device (I'm doing this all without a sim but connected to to wifi. So, I've just tried to pull a factory reset on the phone via findmymobile and that triggered the phone to reset, I was stil greeted with the reactivation though. I'll report back once I"m done with setup and stuff; I gotta run out for coffee right now.

Still working on it. Still can't disable reactivation lock, not through the FindMyMobile site nor through the device. Attempted closing Samsung account (fun fact, when you close your account there it doesn't get completely closed!) and still nothing. Will update upon further movement. Until then, looking for more information.

So, I broke down and emailed Samsung. Recieved instructions and was able to rid myself of the Reactivation welcome screen, Hooray, yeah? Well, not quite. Now I'm no longer able to add my Samsung account (via either accounts page nor FindMyMobile, annnnnd the reactivation lock is listed as on and greyed in that menu. Strangely enough, the phone asks me to set my lock screen every time I restart it.
Directions followed to get me to this point, from the last point:
1: Settings > Applications> All> Samsung Account > Clear Cache (was told to clear Data but that option wasn't available)
2: Accounts > Samsung Account > Sleect Account > Menu > Remove Account
You'll get a message that the account will be removed and reactivation locked will be removed yadda yadda. Your phone will not restart.
I've restarted the phone a few times and also into ODIN/Download mode and Reactivation is still enabled.
God, I hate this phone and am super glad that I don't own it. **** Samsung, for real. (**** Verizon too). Will report back if I can make anymore progress.

Nope, best I can get is being able to get into the phone using my samsung account (original problem) but then every boot it asks you for samsung account. Beyond that I can disable the query for samsung account on boot.
Both have no way of disabling the reactivation lock via settings or via the findmymobile site. Both do not allow you to completely factory reset the phone. Both do not allow you to pave over the os with a factory image. Upon attempt of factory reset the system will ask for samsung account again on boot.

I was able to remove reactivation on one Galaxy S6 edge running 5.1.1 but unable to repeat it. Installed Samung+ and disabled setup wizard like suggested. After inputting Samsung account information in the Setup Wizard it asked to enable Reactivation lock, unchecked it and it was off. Have not been able to do it again on a different S6 edge 5.1.1.

I also had to make an OTG cable from an old charger brick and cable, which was a PITA but finally got it reset.

my knox cannot be installed because a costum OS has previously been installed in this device ??? what to do ...
when i click to add samsung account from settings it "back" me to settings again ?

Factory reset now stuck on "Verify your account"

hello,
Last night I had to put my phone in ultra power saving mode and this morning it won't go back to normal mode. I did a factory reset using the home, vol up and home. I'm now stuck at the Verify your account. I added my Gmail( same account that was on the phone). I get a message saying "please sign in using one of the owner's accounts for this device." I then reset the password with a new one and still giving me that message that it's wrong email account. I'm able to login on the desktop no problem. The phone is unable to accept my email/pass. I called Sprint they are unable to help me. Any idea?

If you had reactivation lock turned on, that might be the problem. You'll need to search for the fix, I've seen it before but I never saved the thread.

I called Google. They told me to wait 72 HRs. Sprint/Samsung was not very helpful. It's crazy because I'm able to login in my Gmail desktop.

locked out after update

I updated the firmware today and have now got a black screen asking for an encrypted password, I dont recall setting this up and have tried any password I may have used. I contacted Samsung but not helpful so far. I tried find my phone, but it cant connect. would a factory reset be my only option?
Keep trying man. There's no way it automatically encrypted itself. There's a setting that allows you to set a password or pattern before allowing the phone to turn on

FRP triggered even though Settings was used to reset

I just sold my S7 and beforehand I used the Settings menu to reset the phone. It also asked for the Samsung password too for some reason. I checked after the boot that the phone restarted in factory setup mode and it did, so I powered it off and shipped it.
Now the buyer has said that they see this msg on start up:
"an unauthorised attempt has been made to reset your device to factory default settings, connect to Wi Fi or mobile network to verify your identity"
Why is this?
They are saying that they have been advised that "the phone is locked" and so want to return it.
Why did the FRP get triggered? Is there any way out of this?
Obvs I really don't want to give the buyer my google userid (presuming this will allow them to to set it up) as even if I changed my password afterwards they could potentially do all sorts of stuff before I can change the password again ... Besides giving your login out just a no no in anyone's book.

Did you check if everything was actually properly erased by going through the setup wizard again and seeing if it complained about an unauthorized reset, or did you just see the setup screen and thought everything was good? It also seems you didn't remove any accounts prior to the reset.
You should've removed all accounts, and disabled any screen lock methods on the device before even going into the reset menu on the Settings app. If you leave your accounts on your device, especially your Google and Samsung accts, both FRP and Reactivation Lock will assume that an unauthorized reset was made and as such it will store said accounts during setup in order to verify that it's *you* who reset the phone.
It may be possible for the buyer to bypass FRP and effectively remove your Google account from the phone, but if Samsung's Reactivation Lock was enabled and you still hadn't tripped Knox, then you're pretty much out of luck on doing that in any way. Removing the Reactivation Lock is incredibly hard if not impossible on some devices, so don't count on much if the feature is active.
If nothing is possible, the only choice you have is to talk to the buyer to see if he will temporarily send the phone back so that you can unlock the thing properly, then ship it again. But I doubt anyone would like to go through more hoops and expenses to get their used phone working and would rather just return it and get a refund.

After the reset and restart I just saw the setup screen and thought everything was fine. All I knew from memory was that doing a reset via the Recovery boot menu would trigger the protection, but I had no idea that one had to actually remove the screen lock and accounts before doing a reset via Settings! I'm pretty sure that the Settings-Reset page even says it will remove all data & accounts etc. and I know it said nothing at all about removing lockscreen & accounts beforehand!
Even the specific page at https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00083965/ makes no mention of that step - how are folks expected to know this stuff?
Grrr, this is why I'm so frustrated at how such a seemingly simple operation is so screwed up - no wonder folks love iphones [ducks] ....
The buyer is non-technical but I've persuaded them to give me a go at talking them through entering my google userid over the phone - and then straight afterwards I'll change the google password and remove the device from google account. Failing that it's refund time and writing off all the postage.
Well we tried. But, for some reason during my account sign-in, it was asking for a mobile phone number too which I wasn't expecting, and then after that it wouldn't accept my password. The guy was 86 though and so there might have been something else amiss that he didn't spot. So I'll have to try and fix it when it comes back... Oh and it turns out that changing your google account password nukes all your app passwords without any warning, so that's another PITA to update everywhere that uses those.
The buyer actually dropped by during a road trip, so I could login myself. It turned out that it was the S7's Samsung keyboard that was at fault since it refused to type in actual characters correctly. I had to disable the Samsung keyboard setting for Predictive Text. Also it insisted on automatically changing the case of letters until I'd long pressed the shift key to fix the case.
Only after doing these things was it possible to enter email address and password correctly. I then removed my google account, did a settings reset, and finally the phone reset correctly.
