Buying Z5 - Bootloader Concerns - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone. I finally decided to buy a new phone after ages (I have Xperia V )
My definite choice was Nexus 6P, but now I'm also looking into Z5.
I don't care about price.
My only question is Does unlocking bootloader on Z5 affect camera quality?
According to Sony's Official Bootloader Unlock Website :
for instance Xperia Z3, the removal of DRM security keys may affect advanced camera functionality. For example, noise reduction algorithms might be removed, and performance when taking photos in low-light conditions might be affected. The secure user data partition may also become inaccessible

If yes, I'll stick with 6P

Yes. Stick with the nexus if you want custom rom and lots of development

Damn Sony!
I can live my life with stock roms, but not without unlocked bootloader and root

To be fair, coming from a Nexus 5, it's not actually bothered me not having root

No, they don't work, for now
I suggest you to wait some time, maybe they will add them when there will be a stable version.
CM12 / DRM
My opinion:
- CM12 is too fresh and still partially buggy. You can play with that, but thats IMHO all. Not considered production.
- Unless somebody makes serious effort, forget about official Sony apps. Some are bound to DRM lost in process of unlocking bootloader.
- Camera will work as good as good is the hardware of it. Picture enhancement provided by software is Sony Stock ROM specific and bound to DRM. I have seen some guys working on DRM removal.
- There may be other apps with postprocessing to compensate for Sony postprocessing (low light etc.).

Not really as it is way to early. Seems everybody concentrates on L.

Don't count on them being able to restore lost drm function. I already jumped ship on sony. The unlock was worth it to me since I came from a nexus. Only issue I really have so far is a battery issue I think might pertain to only a few "testers". Also, camera was never great to me... I went n5 > iPhone 6 (just two weeks) > z3. If anything I'll pick up the iPhone 6 again and use it as a weekend phone if I really start kicking myself over the camera.

Question before buying Mate 8

i really want to buy mate 8 and i love it but i'm afraid from one thing i'm a user that root his phone and use xposed and flash roms
my question is rooting and xposed will work on this phone without problems?
and i think for mate 8 there is no number of custom roms
it is nornal that the phone is new but my question is like after 2 years when the phone stop to recieve update it will be a custom rom for it ? like Cyanogen?
Root yes ,xposed not working, stock ROM is very good with Google now launcher
I don't believe that CM is making ROMs for Mate 8
Sent from my HUAWEI NXT-L29 using Tapatalk
Root works, xposed works, no cm ROM in sight but delete a bunch of bloat apps, replace them with Google apps instead, and use layers manager along with theme app for a very close to aosp ROM feel
Have to say, was very anxious to find out how Emui would be in practice. If it would be bloated, ugly, overkill, etc.
But now, after using the device for a few days, can honestly say that I wouldn't want it to be any other way! The amount of things you can change, set or extract techy data from is enormous. Don't want stock Android anymore. Don't want CM13. This is it. Emui rulez! :good:
It's fast, smooth, does it all. No regrets. Can't / won't downgrade to stock/ AOSP / CM

Mine doesn't even get warm. There are no dots on the screen either. Having a large battery makes it charge a little slower but mine charges fast if I use the original ac adapter and cable.

Hello everybody, I was wondering if someone could tell me the best mate8 model to buy I will be using it in the usa. I'm using the mate2 now and it is a solid mid-ranger. I have unlocked the bootloader and have cm13 running on it now. I would appreciate your suggestions on the mate8 models and why you pick it. Thanks..
I'm interested in buying a Mate 8 and I was wondering if you can shoot RAW pictures using the Mate 8?
I know that it has a "Pro Mode" option but I can't find any videos online showing a full indept review of that feature, so could anyone explain/elaborate on that?
Many thanks in advance!

Most Raw-capable camera apps you can download from the Play Store won't work as well due to crap implementation on Huawei's side:
Shame, really.

If you wish to buy a Huawei phone and need RAW image files, you have to wait for the release of P9 (April 16th) or P9 Plus (May 20th) that both offer this functionality.
Thank you guys for the reply.
That's really sad to hear then. My LG G4 recently died on me with the infamous boot loop problem and I can't get it fixed anytime soon. I might wait for reviews of the new P9 but I do like the Mate 8 as well though. I'd just have to sacrifice RAW function then =/

It's not only a matter of RAW vs non-RAW... P9/P9 Plus dual camera has been yet tested by some reviewers and defined a significant step forward compared to Mate 8 (but still worse than Samsung S7).

You are right, there's more to it than just RAW, but having RAW function is usually beneficial as you can process the picture later and not rely solely on the phone's image processor. Although if the phone's image processor is good to begin with then you shouldn't need RAW.
My G4 had RAW and I quite liked it, managed to get some good shots during my holiday before it died on me(luckily it died after my vacation was over, lol).
How is the Mate 8's Pro/Manual Mode? Is it any good?

Tried Kingroot, it didn't work.
By the way, the more people run Kingroot from an Xperia XA, the more they'll try to find a root strategy (it says so on the app, and they're obviously keeping track, so far 114 have tried from the Xperia F3116).

If the x range uses drm-verity which I think all late 2015 onwards Xperia devices onwards do now then it'll be like the z5 range root on unlocked Bootloader only I think. If this is the only way to get root if it'll be even possible on the xa and other x devices looks like I'm going back to stock when i get mine, my M2 is rooted and heavily modified always has been but I refuse to use kingroot.

Kingroot can be removed and replaced by SuperSU you know, after rooting. At least that's what I did on Xperia Z3 Compact. I never left stock by the way, and kept bootloader intact. Now it remains to be seen if Kingroot or anyone will ever be able to root the XA safely at all.

Yes it is according to some the wifi bug has been fixed some are getting 4hrs sot time with ease Bluetooth may have the same problem according to some also depends on how the device is set up try doing either a factory reset or software repair via Sony pcc you need to start with the latest firmware on a totally clean install. Root is probably gonna be a while as someone needs to build kernel+recovery if drm-verity is in use it'll be unlocked Bootloader root only x range not supported by kingroot either for now

Have you even tried any of the above and gave it time to settle down and go through a few cycles. Try posting on the xa Sony support forum the problems/bugs in the thread they have going on, they were quick enough to fix the wifi bug and the more people that report back there with the problems the faster they'll get it sorted.

Sorry but plenty of people are far too quick to just come on here like we all know the answers to everything and thinking they know better you'd be surprised how many people will swear they have tried everything, I know from personal experience that a factory reset and or a software repair/ftf flash via flashtool wiping the phone can do, most people try and do it without totally wiping the data it can also take upto a week for a device to settle down after updates ect. Sony know about the major bugs and are working on fixes that I know and sony are better than most other oem's regarding updates and device su, root will take a little while I think it is just to new yet try getting other x/xa owners emailing kingroot support for device support not that I'd use it myself, i hope I can help move things on a bit when I get mine next week
On the plus side it's supposedly really easy to unlock the bootloader (it's a setting in the developer options)

No that only makes it possible to unlock the bootloader you still have to do it manually after that. Should not be that much work though.

Manual Camera Controls in Nougat?

Is there any info,do we get new camera in Nougat, like a XZ and XP with full manual controls?
while it is mentioned in the latest video posted by sony xperia team, i don't really think it is going to be included for z5 (although our devices are equipped with the same sensor). At least, there's no announcement or indication that it is going to be included.

We don't know. Chances are no one will know. But so far other devices that got the update also got these features. There are no reason to think they're not going to be included.

Disadvantages of unlocking bootloader?

i really want to root my phone, but i saw some cases where the camera stopped working etc. and ofcourse the (permanent?) removal of the waranty.
You lose the DRM keys and since there's no Marshmallow fw for this phone since it came with Nougat you can't downgrade to save them but unless you plan on going root-less this won't be that big of a deal.
So if you plan on having root forever no worries.
When you lose the DRM keys you lose some quality in the camera in low-light conditions.
For me root heavily outweighs the camera. I don't buy Sony phones for the camera, as long as they are working I'm fine with losing low-light quality to get root.
The camera issue got fixed so don't worry about that.
