Just seeing if this is possible. I'm on AT&T and had the Note 3 and 4 previously. There is no way I'm getting a Note 5 which can't be rooted, so I'm thinking of getting the Tmobile one. My only issue is that I need WiFi calling at home, where I get crappy reception. AT&T WiFi calling has been a lifesaver.
So, any possibility of getting AT&T WiFi calling on a tmobile Note 5? I don't mind rooting and changing rom, although I have a feeling the issue is with the lack of hardware bands.

Due to the hardware differences in the att and
the tmobile phones tmobile's wifi calling will not work on an att phone even if the att phone is unlocked and rooted.
Good luck,

AT&T currently only supports WiFi Calling on the iPhone 6/6+/6S/6S+.
The software installed on our phones is configured to work with T-Mobile's implementation of WFC, and would most likely not work even when AT&T brings WFC to Android.

I know you will drop 3g data on a call. That I completely understand. But this is the first device I've used that is dropping my lte data during a call. I'm not sure if this is a rom issue or a modem issue.
I am on sprint, and not sure if this is an isolated issue for sprint customers or across the board.
Another issue I would like to see resolved is patching native tethering. I'm currently stuck using WiFi tether app in ad-hoc mode. Which unfortunately my nexus 7 can't attach to.
In case you're wondering I'm running slim kat currently. I've tried cm and stock before rooting and all formats have dropped LTE on call.
Probably because there is no voice over LTE. Same happens on Rogers too.

But I've always had voice over LTE on Sprint. Just not with this phone. Galaxy nexus, and HTC one never had that issue.
If it's something I have to live with, that's fine. I just would like to see this feature implemented if possible.
maybe its the way the radio is designed for this phone?
thats my only guess.

Nope, not going to happen. It requires a very specific setup with the radios that results in poor battery life. Sprint does not run with voice over LTE, it's simply running calls as normal and keeping LTE active at the same time.
In addition, large portions of Sprint's network outright do not support this functionality anyway.
Is WiFi calling built into the Moto G/Android 5.1.1? Being on T-Mobile, coverage is terrible in my house so if I can't use WiFi calling it's a bust for me. I really want to buy the phone though.

No Volte/wifi calling.

Will the Android M update make it possible to do WiFi calling on T-Mobile or is it a hardware limitation?
I've seen some fixes tried for it but I don't think they worked. I think it's a hardware issue and that band was removed from the phone at T-Mobile's request.

I'm wondering the same thing. I heard WiFi calling will be native in Android m. Has anyone tried WiFi calling on M yet to see if it's there?

The only way to get Tmo wifi calling is with a device that has a Tmo branded rom. If you buy a device ONLY sold as unlocked, such as this one or a Nexus (prior to Nexus 6) you will not get wifi calling. It can be ported to AOSP roms, etc. if a variant of your device is sold by Tmo, but it's very very rare to find one like Moto G with wifi calling, since it isn't available to buy from Tmo, with a Tmo branded rom.
As far as I know, the only reason N6 got it at all is because of their exclusive partition dedicated to carrier additions, like apps, binaries, etc....wifi calling is also installed here, if I'm not mistaken.
Also....not to be 'that guy' but have you tried hangouts? It does work on wifi....just saying

I have a Nexus 6 on Android M and it has WiFi calling biut wasn't sure if that was cause of the ROM I'm using or if it was just in M stock since the rumor was that M will have WiFi calling built in.
I recently broke the screen on my n6 so I bought a galaxy grand prime as a backup phone cause it has band 12 and WiFi calling. If the moto g got WiFi calling with the M update I'd take my grand prime back and go buy a moto g.

There are official factory images specific to each carrier with Nexus 6. The Tmobile one includes wifi calling. I don't have one, but my sister does and when I was walking her through a factory flash once I noticed they uploaded a tmobile .img that has wifi calling.
For moto g, I'm not sure we'll get it, but there is a MM rom in the Original Development section here, so if you'd like to play around and see if you can get it working, I'm sure many people would be appreciative!
I personally use hangouts for 100% of my mobile communication, so I'm pretty indifferent about this. If I could get a Tmo plan without voice coverage on my phone I would.
The new Nexus 5X and 6P are supposed to work with TMo wifi calling out of the box, no special updates from TMo.
What about band 12 on the Moto G? Any hope for that? The reason I care for these is because as luck would have it both at home and work TMo signal is terrible. And yes, I rely on Hangouts over wifi too. The problem with terrible signal is that it also drains your battery, so you have to automate turning cell radio off and leaving just wifi on to save battery. I'd rather not do all these sometimes unreliable workarounds.
Sorry if this has been posted before....but is it possible to flash a T-mobile ROM on a Verizon note 5?
I left big red for T-Mobile and bought a unlocked Note 5 that was originally on Verizon.
It works fine with T-Mobile and I am overall happy with the network.
However I travel a lot and would like the option of WIFI calling and also to be able to use the free in air txting on GOGo inflight.
In order to do that it seems I need the T-mobile firmware? Or is this something I can flash?
As the phone is now I have no option to turn on WIFI calling in any of the the settings.
Thanks!
Nope. If you try. You will soft brick it. Only way to recover is Odin back to stock TMO firmware. I attempted with and s4 and s6 from Verizon. I eventually caved and ponies dup for a TMO note 5. The lack of volte alone killed me.
I have a N920V as well and am now using t mobile with great Lte speeds. You 1)dl BK Package Disabler app for Samsung, 2)give it admin permission and disable all Verizon packages (except Mobile Hotspot And Tethering to keep that function), 3)input APN settings for t mobile manually, then reboot. I am unrooted and have great network functionality that rivals Verizons so called superior service.
For in flight free texting there is no need for TM firmware. I have international Note 4 (N910F) with generic rom for TM plan. GoGo works fine during my frequent Delta flights.
I have s7 verizon and have used many verizon galaxy on t-mobile. Wi-Fi calling cant be added. I am able to use the internet intermittently whilst talking but on 3g. On some verizon phones it was nothing while talking.
I have the nexus 6 on Verizon. I really would like to have the note 5. Will the T-Mobile note 5 work on Verizon?

Alright... I'm so excited for my 2nd note to come. This is also my 2nd sprint but who cares right? My last note was the Note 4 from at&t and i kinda miss it. But the battery kept overheating and I couldn't flash a rom on the phone. But I know I can if I have a sprint or a tmobile galaxy. Lol I seen YouTube and XDA.. So What's the Best Rom for this note?
I need everything for this thing.( Recovery,Rom...(S8/Note 8 port), everything). I'm using my s6 edge on tmobile and the signal is really low. I mean I still get good 4g lte signal but around 1 to 3 bars. Especially when I'm on the phone with somebody. Wifi calling is included. Hotspot is included. Almost everything works except binge on and visual voicemail. I can get the phone unlocked it's been paid in full.. I just need this thing to run like it's successor (note fe or note 8). it be cool to have the sprint 4g lte icons and the sprint boot up screen and make it feel more authentic with Better speeds and everything and I think that's what sprint has one up on. But I love tmobile so thats why I want this to run as a sprint phone using tmobile. Especially with extended range? I need help and input.
I'm not sure n920p is going to work well for you from a WiFi calling standpoint. Sprint WiFi calling isn't compatible with TMobile's system so the ROM will have to be tailored to work. I had a similar issue with Mint Sim with my Sprint Note 5.
I'm a boost customer and absolutely need wifi calling because I live in the sticks. My daughter is using my old Sprint Note 4 that I had activated on Boost and she has wifi calling working. So I'm wondering if I buy a Sprint Note 5 and activate it on Boost will I be able to use the wifi calling feature as well. It's not offered on the Boost Note 5 so I was thinking of buying the Sprint version. I bought a S7 from Boost a year ago and was guaranteed that the wifi calling would work only to get home and not be able to enable it cause it doesn't exist on my phone. After many calls to Boost and lots of searching I realize I'm out of luck with my current phone.
FYI, I'm not a techie so any abbreviations that I can't google will go over my head!
Thanks,
Jen

If the device supports Wi-Fi calling, it should work, I don't think it has anything to do with who the carrier is as long as the carrier itself also supports Wi-Fi calling.
