*HELP* YouTube only showing 360? - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I've recently purchased an Android TV box (the M8s with the s812 chip running Android version 4.4.2)
I have it connected to my TV and it's outputting at [email protected] and plays full 1080p videos from other sources just fine.
Things I've tried before asking for help:
I have deleted the original youtube app, re installed it, cleared it's data etc many times,
installed the YourTube Xposed module which hasn't had any effect and yes, it's fully active.
Current version of youtube: 10.40.58
So far, nothing I've tried has managed to even get me 480p never mind 1080p videos.
Its really doing my head in and any input / suggestions will be most welcome.
Kind regards,
Chiller.

Videos on youtube are of may quality
And videos often do not have hd options.
They will have max of 360 or 480p.
So try run any video which you know on youtube have an hd quality option

From what I have tried dice player runs 1080p .mp4 files pretty fine.
But it seems you are trying to play very high bit rate 1080p .mkv/.mp4 files which I guess gets a bit too much for R / most other smart phones to play.
If the above is true then you'll have to convert those videos to a lower bit rate format.
Hope it helps.
But those videos were running on my friends sgs2 properly without Any third party apps
And I have read that sgr supports
Full he playback and now the native player is not able to do so.

We can play them buddy . . . !
I have played some good quality 1080p MP4 videos on my device. Its just that it shouldn't be a very high bitrate. I have yet to try any mkv files though, will try & update here.
Tegra 2 naively supports recording of 1080p videos which had been disabled by Samsung due to some reasons currently not clear.
But they can't block a device which naively supports recording 1080p videos from playing Full HD videos as it depends on which video player you use.
The generic Samsung player doesn't play 1080p videos but Dice player does and its currently free.
Hope this helped.

Video Player Lag

Anybody else having severe lag when playing back 1080p videos taken with the phone? I uploaded the videos onto my PC and they playback smoothly but on the phone it's a choppy mess. I've tried clearing cache and data using the app manager for the video player but it doesn't help.
Mine do that as well. Not sure why.

There is something wrong with either the OS or the hardware. I've tried multiple video players from the market & I get the same results. :banghead:
720p movies play fine. Why are you watching 1080p movies on a screen that isn't even 1080p? Just a question so please no knee jerk reactions here.
i only have a couple 1080p videos that i converted to < 4gb and stayed that way. i put them on the internal sdcard. although ive only watched a couple minutes of them..they play fine for me on stock video player. the others converted to > 720p but not sure what exactly thats called..lol. i use audioconvertor to rip dts track out and make ac3 audio because my tv doesnt support dts automatically but only the stereo does.

I record them in 1080p so that I can take advantage of my 1080p TV. I use the mhl adapter but because the video player is laggy it lags on my TV also. My Gnex doesn't lag with 1080p vids so I would hope the S3 wouldn't as well.

Playing HD in Youtube app

I just updated to the newest YouTube app and the video quality is just awful. I've selected the HD video option in app settings, selected HQ in video settings, but its the same.
Is there some trick to play HD video?
Also, my internet connection is not the cause of this, because I can play 1080p videos on my PC without a problem.

I've had problems with streaming HD video on the youtube app before, I just found it was the wifi, as in distance from the router. I could be totally wrong but it worked for me, you might also want to try playing them through the browser not the app, that also seemed to make them stream faster, good luck.

Dude! MX Player doesn't provide extra gpu/cpu hardware for your phone. You must downgrade the frame size of your video to 720p or less.

The specs on your phone are pretty low; if the video's not encoded in a codec and resolution that the phone's hardware can accelerate, then you'll need to reencode the video to lower quality.
Isn't there any way to fix this problem except downgrading the resolution of video???

A codec only increases the variety of files you can play back.
A weak phone is a weak phone is a weak phone.
A high quality file is a high quality file is a high quality file.
You'll have to either get a new phone, or reencode downwards the video quality.
Hey!!
If you want to play HD video on your phone without downgrading the resolution of video then there is one option that is you could download the apps such as HD Video Player Free Software or Samsung GT-S7562 Duos Video Players App to run your video. May be by using these apps , the video start playing. If not then check Samsung Gt-s7562 Manual to customize various video display settings.

Disable h.265 recording

Hi,
As I've seen on gsmarena's review, this phone ONLY records 4k with h.265 codec.
Right now, this is a problem because many phones can't play h.265, google chrome (desktop and android) can't play it, and youtube, google drive and google photos can't process it. (I've tested it)
Do you know if there is a way of recording 4k with h.264?
I didn't find any problem playing my UHD 4K recordings. I transported a recording to my LG G4 as well and I could play it with all players.
Just my Samsung TV reported wrong codec.
Full HD recordings didn't have problems at all.

Any snapdragon 8xx, greater than 800, supports h265 playback. I currently have a Galaxy Note II which features an SD 800 and it can't decode h265.
And, about not having problems with 1080: Mate 9 only records with h265 on 4k. On 1080 resolution it uses h264.
But the point is... Google is not supporting h265 uploading on any of their services (photos, youtube and drive), even when youtube sometimes outputs h265. (On Drive you can upload it, but it can't make the video "streamable")
So... Is there a way to make Mate 9 record on 4K using h264 instead of h265?
My guess is using another camera. I imagine the 265 is there to keep filesize and perhaps iops down.

Since this device is getting a lot of popularity and some updates where launched, I'll bump this post up.
Any news? Has Huawei updated their camera to disable h265 on 4k?
I hope Huawei can give us an option to switch 4k codecs. I dont mind having larger sized 4k videos as long as its a format that is widely supported. One of the reviews stated that recording at 1080/60 produces larger file size than 4k. 4k shouldnt be compressed too much. Or at least give us the option not to

Yeah, VLC doesn't support it. You have to use the regular windows media player, and it will work. I'm using Windows 10 home, and the regular media player plays it. I tried all the known ways for VLC to work such as placebo and slowest in the codec info settings, and they don't work. It's a known issue with VLC to this day.
Ok thanks. I'll try.
You can also use "MPC-HC" which old name was "Media Player Classic" (it's not the old microsfot media player), there are bundles with a lot of codecs like https://www.codecguide.com/
I personally use the "Mega" variant. I love it because it suports shaders (it's gorgeous to watch 720p and 1080p reescaled to 4k and with 1 or 2 filters of "sharpen complex") and it also has a TON of options.
I've just realised this is a problem for me. I bought the phone also for video recording possibilities and low and behold my 4K won't play on YouTube, let alone upload.
This is a massive flaw IMO with this phone and I'm gonna have to look at offloading it. Shame.

I wouldn't call it a flaw though, your device is using the most advanced 4K codec. Blame Google for not adopting the greatest and latest. But I see your point, you'll have to conform to whatever YouTube supports.

Hello,
I copied the video files from my mate 9 to my pc. I can't play them even after installing klite codec for x265.
Any solution?
