Move to SD card not working - LG G Stylo Questions & Answers

To start, I'm using the Katana ROM. I just was delivered a shiny new 64GB SD card. The phone reads it fine, I have some stuff on it that the OS picks up, ES File Explorer can read stuff and so does Titanium. The problem is after I move an app to SD that app is no longer available. Anyone have this issue or a solution to it? I still have about 6GB open on internal storage so I'm not starved for space but would REALLY love to use this thing. It's formatted as a FAT32 partition. Thanks in advance for any help.

I thinks folks are using link2sd to do that. I believe someone around here posted a guide somewhere on how to set it up.
I have a video tutorial, but it's for a different phone and I'm not sure if it would be the same for this phone.

Thanks, I'll look into that

Either I got a bogus card or link2sd doesn't like ext4. I can get my Linux box to create two partitions using gparted but after it crates them it doesn't like the second one. I think I may be out the money for this card...

If you got a good brand card from a reputable source you should be fine. It can be tricky sometimes to setup your partitions.
Try minitool partition wizard and see if you have any luck with it. I have a video tut at the bottom of this page for minitool...

I got it from geek.com on a recommendation of a buddy who has a note 4 and uses a 128GB card from them. I'll try your link and report back. That's what I get for buying a $7 64GB card I suppose.

I am now 99% convinced it's a bad card and I'm just out the $7. I finally got it to work after more playing with it and file system scans, moved a couple minor apps over, rebooted, it worked some more, moved some bigger apps over and it corrupted the apps I moved. Lesson learned. I'll just put my old 16GB card back in this and get a 64 or 128 card at a later date. Perhaps a Christmas idea for the woman friend (I'm 35, girlfriend sounds dumb at this stage, lol).
Now I know, and according to G. I. Joe knowing is half the battle

I agree, $7 for a 64gb card is questionable. Just do what I did and head over to walmart and grab you a samsung evo sd card for $20. It's very reliable and fast. I noticed when there's no sale at walmart it's $20 for the 32gb evo and when there's a sale it's $20 for the 64gb evo. Either way I think it's well priced.

I'll have to go check that out for sure then. The kicker is he paid I think $6 for his 128GB with no issues through them, heh
Off topic, but wanted to mention other than this SD card issue which isn't in any way the ROMs fault my phone has been solid with improved battery life thanks to your Katana ROM, so thanks again for that

No problem, thank you. Keep an eye out, I'll be updating the rom some more.

Amazon has some good deals for sandisk 32 and 64 gb cards, i got my 32 gb one from them for $13.

where to buy 16GB micro sdhc class 6 from?

amazon is too annoying, brings up anything and everything, don't trust ebay
mymemory has class 2 or class 10 for £80+
help
NM, found a thread on this forum and got one ordered. yay!
from? link?
Bought all my SD Cards from these guys http://www.mobymemory.com/micro-SD.asp
this thread isnt in the wrong section at all.............
Can I ask why people care about the class? I've just got a class 2 32gb card from Vodafone for £89. I've not noticed any problems or slowdown taking pictures or playing media...which are the only things my card is used for. Transfers are no slower than any other device I connect via USB.
What's the big fuss?
it's for running apps from in the (hopefully) near future.
class 6 means (i think) a minimum 6Mb/sec transfer rate
oh, got it from memory cow
Yes, but most people have suggested they see no difference when using apps2sd with the "slower" cards. It seems there's a lot of assumptions being made leading to actual sales decisions where it may not be needed.
See this fellow who thought a faster card would solve his issues: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708859
So where is no differences between class 2 and class 6 ?
Because i have dilemma now, i want to buy some high capacity microSD card, and if i take 32GB it will be class 2, and if i take at same cost 16GB card it will be class 6.
And does any body try to buy 32GB card from Ebay ? ( i am worrying that 32GB is not GB, its Gb, and that means just 4GB )
Thanks for help
i woul;dn't trust the cards off ebay tbh
I went ahead and bought the Transcend 16gb class 6 card through OFFTEK. It arrived with the adaptor, and was very prompt.
http://www.offtek.co.uk/item_detail....at=1&subcat=74
Pretty good price too. I just copied everything to my desktop, swapped cards and copied back.
The new card works great, but i did notice that the full card size is stated as "14.96gb" on the phone, rather than 16.
I also wonder if there is a difrence between a class 2 or class 6 card when playing movies, apps or taking pictures on your SD card.
because that would make the difrence between going for a 32gb or 16gb card.
well, i noticed a difference when copying files. both cards broke 10MB/sec on large files, but the old card dropped damn quick when copying loads of small files - e.g photos.
i'd imagine it would be like this when looking through an album or flicking from one image to the next. it's not about the max speed, but the minimum.

THE CLASS OF AN SD CARD IS TO DO WITH ITS WRITE SPEED NOT ITS READ SPEED, YOU WONT NOTICE ANY DIFFENCE WHEN READING FROM IT

Perfectly normal not to get the quoted capacity, combination of space lost due to formatting and the tendency of hardware producers to size storage media in decimal (ie. 16 000 000 000 bytes) rather than the binary equivalent - which the OS displays (16 x 1024 x 1024 x 1024 bytes).
I've confused myself with that statement - in short the hardware manufaturers use a commonly accepted, flattering but actually incorrect notation to lead you to believe that you are getting more for your money - HTH
Kingston make a 16gb class10, but it's pretty expensive (~100€)

Oh, and by the way, up to what class num can the Desire actually handle ?
I picked up my SanDisk 16GB Class 6 from the Carphonewarehouse when i went and got my Desire,,, i beleive it was £42
IMO i have always used Class 6 cards, i think they are the business, i dont care for read and write speeds i just need something that works and is reliable, SanDisk have always had my back so there ya go

Wonder how much it'll cost...probably not something I can afford right now, but hopefully the 32GB sandisk card I ordered during black friday gets out of backorder so I don't have to consider buying this now
just in time for the Nexus line to lose its microSD slot.
Never mind it was SD not micro.
hmm... ive been contemplating a larger card for my N1... looks like some more options are coming my way...
Patriot cards will now fail at record speed!
Best 32GB Micro SD Card for Nexus One
If you are looking for a good, high capacity, micro sd card for your Nexus One, you need to get the SanDisk 32GB microSDHC (cat. #B003WGJYCY). I bought mine in Amazon for $81.44, and right now is $104.95. Although is a class 2 card, I am getting speeds of 6MB for writing and 8MB for reading, with no lag at all when playing music, movies or using the picture gallery. I highly suggest that you keep your eyes open for this card, so you can buy it when it comes on sale.
I got in on a sale from sandisk where it was $56.99

lexar has released a class 10 32gb
Good find!
I find myself upgrading my microSD too often. First, I had a 4gb class 4, then a 4gb class 6, then 8gb class 6, now a 16gb class 6 32gb class 10 sounds pretty juicy though!!

It's available for around $110 on Amazon or $149.99 straight from Lexar but it appears to be out of stock atm.

I got one of these Patriot 32GB Class 10's and it didn't work very well for me.
Droid 2 Global - Rooted - Stock ROM
Initially I found, even if plugged directly into my computer the transfer speeds were less than ideal, getting 5.5-8MB/s at best. If the SD was in the phone and I was transferring my 4MB worth of important data (rest could be transferred later) and the transfer would fail. Get i/o errors, further investigation showed that the mount to the computer was lost, but still appeared to be mounted on the phone.
I got my data on there by direct connecting the card to my computer using a USB adapter I had on hand.
When the card is in the phone it works fine for a while, until of course you try to access something on the card. Install an apk from there, access music, run Titatinum, whatever. The task misbehaves; the progress bar will be running and you can press home and do whatever, but if you let the screen go to sleep you cant get it to wake up. If you don't let the screen go to sleep the task seems to hang indefinitely.
I tried a few things, FAT32 used to have a partition limit of 32GB, and this card showed up as a 33GB filesystem. I tried shrinking the filesystem a bit (30GB) to see if that was the issue, but no luck there. I tried doing a format using the phone, maybe they had something they do there. No go.
My instincts told me not to go with Patriot, I should have listened to them. I am willing to try suggestions if anyone has to get this going, but in the meantime I am just going to stick with my 16c2 by Kingston.
Maybe I should have consulted compatibility first?
http://www.patriotmemory.com/support/flashSupportp.jsp
I notice there are a lot of HTC phones on the compatibility list, but not much in the way of Moto support.
Owell, will sell it to a coworker who has a myTouch 3G

Problem: This part has never worked. Well, a lot of users are having issue with Kingston 32GB microSDHC Class 4 cards as it seems its inferior, it took me 27min to transfer just 198MB. Where the same task is done on SanDisk 16GB Class 2 in under 2min. So why is Kingston producing piece of **** card and selling them for 100+? Alot of users in various forum can verify that this is piece of ****. This is bad batch so ill deal with Kingston for RMA directly.
Troublshooting done: Seems the speed is improved when the item is directly allocated in memory thus saving time from accessing it and transferring it. I am not sure if the device is using SD 2.0 but other people with SanDisk 32GB Class 2 is outrunning this Class 4 card. We are only getting like 700KB/s which is no where near class 4 standard.

I call that owned for making me thoroughly testing the card
The data below is the actual IOPs from System (USB: Standard-A) to Device (USB: Micro-B) via USB (USB 2.0/SD 2.0). I am not using any type of card reader for this test as we only want the actual data rate of the card itself natively while its mounted in the device.

lol I am glad I socialed them in to accepting it I had this card for few months and only reason I kept it was due to higher read still was better than SanDisk's read speed which was sustained around 7-8MB/s. Hopefully the plan don't backfire as I already placed order with NewEgg and still have to ship it back to Kingston. So in the end saved $60 or so and got class 10 card with 1gb extra space.

When the screen sleeps, I can't always get it to wake up and am constantly restarting the phone. I was worried it was an issue with LeeDroid, and am currently troubleshooting my phone, but it sounds like once I re-insert my 8gb card I'll be fine. Thanks for the post. Amazed that they can build a card with limited compatibility as such but I suppose that's why it's cheaper. If I figure out otherwise, i'll post again.
Not compatible with Samsung Epic 4G
My wife and I purchased two of these for our Samsung Epic 4G phones, and unfortunately this card does not seem compatible with our phones. It will format and initially seem to read the card, however after a short while both phones gave a damaged SD card error and the cards needed to be reformatted. After the second reformat, we tried to give them another go, unfortunately files just continue to be corrupted. Very disappointed.

This should tell you all you should know....
It is well known that the 32GB card from ebay selling for $40 or less are fakes. Usually what they do is re-code a 2GB card to seem like a 32GB card. I tooka risk witha an ebay bid for $20...they were selling like hotcakes with great reputation....soon after the purchase the guy sky rocketed on negative reviews due to the fact that he was not deliivering, and the few were fakes. I am still in dispute wiith the guy and paypal.
In plain English you got ripped off. If you bought it thorugh paypal, file a claim.
Just out of curiosity....what was the seller's name?

I was wishing for the better. Thank you for highlighting the problem for me.
I bought it off Turtle Rock based in the UK, and I paid over £40 pounds through paypal.
I sent the diagnostic test to Kingston Technologies, and have sent a querry for a replacement or a refund through the eBay querry system.
Kingston Tech will be getting back to me with an answer on the genuineness of the card. i now don't expect to hear differently to your response.
Last of all, the card became unreadable on my phone, pc and digital camera.
I shall give the seller/eBay two business days before taking the matter further.
Am now beginning to wonder if eBay is only good for non-tech items like covers and furniture that one can see and assess on first sight.
My last card for my winMo came from Amazon UK. It is a 16GB. I have no problem with it at all.
If its too good to be true, it probably is

turtle_rock_uk have responded to me and advised me to return the defective item for a refund.
I have sent the item via Royal Mail's "Signedfor" route. Since it is weekend, I expect that the item will be with them on Monday.
turtle_rock_uk themselves are toprated sellers, good communicators, and am now waiting to see how quickly they will refund me in order to buy another card, which will hopefully work.
While one can pickup a bargain, I think it is also true that cheap can be expensive. Having paid £49, today I had to spend another £2.10 to send back the item.
I will let you know how we conclude this arrangement.
Where can I find the SD Card diagnostic app? I tried searching for H2Testw in the market, but didn't find it.

It's not on market. You must just google for it. You will get it there.
Hmm...
Anyone know if using a micro SD to SD adapter affects the results?

The best way to verify this yourself is to test say, a genuine SanDisk card after you have tested the one you are not sure about, and see what results you get.
I thought that I should update you on my experience with turtle_rock-uk,
They were very prompt to give me a full refund through paypal.
I am now waiting for the paypal transfer to show on my bank account.
I decide to not order through eBay. Instead I have now placed an order for a sandisk 32gb class 2 card with MobyMemory at a cost of £54.49.
I am hoping they can deliver tomorrow or Saturday.
Cheers.

32GB SD cards

Anyone using a 32GB SDHC card in their Fascinate? Just asking because there's one on sale on the Newegg Shell Shocker later today (check at 10AM pacific time). Wondering about speeds and such, and whether Class 10 is worth it (seems like if you want to fill such a big card, it'd be nice to have the faster write speeds of Class 10 but I've seen some reports of incompatibilities/problems with C10 devices).
I was just benchmarking the card that came in my Fascinate (which is supposedly Class 2) with SD Tools and I get 5-8MB/s writes and 16-18MB/s reads which is way better than the Class 2 minimums. The one on the shell shocker is a Class 4 so I'm just wondering whether it'll be a downgrade in terms of speed (just because it's rated for significantly lower speeds than what I'm getting with the internal one). I'll probably end up getting it anyway because I've got ~1GB free on my current one and I want to play with an Ubuntu chroot install.
i got the sandisk 32g class 10 it was worth it. Seems to R/W faster but that maybe due to the SD card boost read ahead cache hack. I think mine is set to 512K. Whether its faster or not the extra space is always a plus
Guess ill find out the hard way with ya, bought one as well. Was also wandering about the speed difference. Noticed the one that came with was class 2 and the 32 was class 4, hoped it at least wouldn't be any worse as i am content with the speed of the included sd. Was really surprised to see that it was a class 2.
Oh well just have to wait until it gets here and see.
DO NOT BUY THE Patriot LX Class 10 32GB CARD!!!
After a few months of light usage (i hardly ever connected it to transfer anything, just had HD seasons of breaking bad, chuck, human target and sparta that I never had time to finish watching) I finally hooked it up for maybe the 6th time since i purchased it, and after transferring some music and more shows, i got a "Damaged SD Card" error. For the last month since that occurrence, I have had to reformat the card at least once a week, and set up my music and just a few episodes at a time (because whats the point of putting seasons on if i'll just have to transfer them over again in a few days) consistently. Sure, it moves along at 12MB/s, but certainly not worth the hassle.
This is not an issue that I have heard of with Class 2 or Class 4 32GB micro SDHC cards, and Patriot says they are working with Microsoft and Google to determine the cause of the issue, but Newegg reviews indicate that this is not an isolated incident.
Good luck with the SanDisk card!!!
Mhm, I got the A-Data 32GB class 4 from Newegg. I benchmarked it and it's not as amazing as the built in card (around 5-6MB/s write and 12MB/s read) but it's not super slow. Yeah, I ended up avoiding the Class 10 cards for that reason actually. It's nice to have so much free space now; I think I'm going to try installing Ubuntu in a chroot jail again.
The new PNY class 10 for tablets is now in stock at Newegg, just ordered one with free shipping.

I got this exact card -- Just arrived yesterday.. I am getting AWFUL performance from it. I mean it performed like 3MB/s write and 8MB/s read.. It only fluxuated by about +-1MB with various SD read_ahead changes.. So disappointed. The worst thing is my phone is NOTICEABLY worse-off with the card in (weird stutters, etc).
Which leads me to something else altogether -- Has anyone noticed that with no SD card in the phone it just flies? I mean even the old SD card which didn't SEEM to give me any stutters was a matter of night and day with it in our out.
jt's CM7 Test Build 10 / EC09 radio / OBT .13 kernel @1400mhz
Old radio was EB01.
_______Update________
So I hadn't tried the card today with the EC09 radio (why should it make any difference?). It seems to have made a difference. Below are my results (with SD Booster app to change Read Ahead value, and AnTuTu benchmark just doing SD Card IO).
PNY 16GB MicroSDHC P-SDU16G10TEFS2
Read Ahead, AVG Write, AVG Read
4096, 6.4MB/s, 15.4MB/s
2048, 6.5MB/s, 15.4MB/s
1024, 6.5MB/s, 15.5MB/s
512, 6.0MB/s, 16.1MB/s
256, 7.4MB/s, 16.3MB/s
256 (2nd pass to verify), 7.4MB/s, 15.9MB/s
128, 6.9MB/s, 14.8MB/s
FAT32 / 16GB Partition
I hope this helps someone. Still not sure why my write speeds are so slow on Android when I've seen them hanging around 12MB/s in Windows (When using FAT32).
Patriot has a lifetime manufacturer warranty on most of their memory. You should contact them about getting a replacement. I run their RAM on my custom built personal pc. It is super stable. Just hoping to help.

I've used both the Patriot class 10 32gb card and the wintec 32gb class 10 card. Both have corrupted my data after a few days. Heard the sandisk and the lexar cards are good, so you may want to give them a shot.
Got the scandisk class 4 32gb and it's satisfactory
i was just about to buy a larger card when stumbling onto this post.
Does the read/write speed slow down as the card gets bigger in size?

No, but I have found that cheaper/nonbranded cards tend to be slower. Read reviews before buying.
I've got a lexar 32gb class 10. It's absolutely terrible. It takes so long for pictures from the gallery to load after you take a picture for example. Anything using hte SD card is slow as molasses. Oddly every benchmark I throw at it shows high speeds, so I have no idea what is going on with it.
may be could try this (get rid the lba) could help the perfomance and compatibility ?
try read this thread (hope help), I'm not try it my self on my fasci, since my class 10 msd still on it's way send to me.

I have a 64GB micro sd card.. GEN or FAKE?

Hello guys,
I recently purchased a galaxy s4, probably £30 to £40 more than its going rate purely because it came with a 64GB micro sd card HC CLASS 10.
I have ran a H2TEST on it (results below). The test to me i think means it only finds 1.8GB?? or am i wrong?. I have done my own manual test by copying videos to the memory card and so far i have put all my videos on there which is 3.3GB worth, if i play them back some do not work. I think its pretty safe to say this is a fake card? with 2gb or 3gb space? The annoying thing is i paid by cash on collection from a ebay seller which means i am not covered as i have been here in this position before!...
The media is likely to be defective.

Yep, it's fake. No disrespect to you personally, but why do people insist on paying cash for expensive things and expect it to be all legit and not have any problems

As i thought...
Well if you do not buy, you do not get...
I would never buy a memory card of ebay, but with it being as part of a deal with a phone i thought it should be OK.
Fake. Done:beer:
