[Help] Headphones/ headset not detected - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
A while ago my Z3 stopped detecting headphones at first and headsets later as well. I belive it was when I installed 5.X.X for the first time. Only ever used greek and UK general versions.
I tried entering safe mode, factory reset, reflash etc, did't even activate google or other accounts nor installed new apps (even disabled SmartConnect), but I still have no luck so far.
I tought it was problem with oxydation, since the contacts looked a bit whitish (yes I got it wet few times and forgot to blow out all the water from the jack). But I cleaned it a few times, and even ordered and used a set of DeOxit the other day. First the red and after the blue one (have green and yellow, but sup they are for other things). I plugged a headset and it was detected by the apps like SmartConnect and Music (aka Walkman).
But the next day when I tried it, there was no detection. The phone stayed with a rubber plug during the night and was not washed before the second test.
Using an app from the play store I'm able to manually route audio output/input to headset jack and it works perfectly. No cracks or interference when I swivel the plug - both recorded audio thru mic and output to left and right headphones.
I've read the mic pin is actually responsible to connection detection...so I belive if the mic works OK then the HW connection should be OK as well?
This leaves me with what I could do SW wise to fix it. Don't really want to send it for repair - it will go to Greece and probably get scratched by their perf service...
Anyone can help?

HELP!!!!! GF's Mini stuck in headset mode!!!

Well, I wouldn't be in as deep of a trouble if this were my phone... But I suggested the Mini to my GF.
Anyway, she was using headset earlier today and after she removed the headset, the phone is stuck in headset mode. Meaning no voice coming thru the phone's earpiece on both incoming and outgoing calls. She tried the headset again and voice is coming thru headset without problem, but once removed, it's still stuck. How do I get the phone out of headset mode please???? Anyone has similar problem before??? Please help!!!

hey hi ,
There are many ways of fixing this -
1)softreset
2)turn bluetooth off! if you are talking about bluetooth headset
3)where it says enable bluetooth headset on today screen - disable it
These might help you!
Regards
AMD
The socket has probably jammed internally, try insert pull out a few times making sure you pull sharply when removing, if this fails try inserting something slightly smaller and jiggling it about. I have also used a tiny squirt of WD40 which is like an easing oil for rusted or obstinate nuts/bolts/screws, also you can buy a spray called switchgear which is used for electronic components such as volume sliders/switches etc when they become sticky and operate intermittently. This is a well known problem on the xda 2.
Thanks guys, it's not BT and this is after many soft-reset I'll give WD-40 a shot. Thanks again!
I've got exactly the same problem here. My phone is bonded to a BT headset. Forgot to bring the headset and found that no sound, or extremely small volume, was coming out from the phone. Tried soft reset, deleting the bond etc. none of it works.
Would be interested in knowing what's the real underlying cause if anyone finds it out.
Hey Solitary, I'm in HK as well and I think it's a hardward rather than software issue. Coz. if I pull the headset, the normal clicking sounds can be heard from the phone, just not during voice calls, I think the earphone on the phone is somehow dead, looks to me like cold soldering
I'm calling O2 in the morning and demand an exchange, my GF only had this phone since 1/9 and besides this, on the unit we have, the voice quailty is also bad too
Hi, CL55,
You might want to read this:
http://www.coolsmartphone.com/index.php?option=articles&task=viewarticle&artid=58&Itemid=3
It seems it is an old and common problem for smartphones.
I've also read in a Taiwan forum that they have got exactly the same problem in Taiwan for the Dopod818.
But I wonder if it is hardware related. My problem is that I'm stuck in a BT headset mode, and I'd never touched the hardware headset socket. So either I have a different problem than yours or else it seems it's more likely a software problem.
Anyway, do tell us if you manage to solve it.
Can you confirm if you can hear the clicking sound from the buildin speaker now? Only no voice from the earphone, or no clicking sound from the buildin speaker as well? I really suspect I have a different problem
Yes I can hear all other sounds from the speaker loud and clear, except for talking over the phone.
So it seems I've got a BT software (or my BT phone hardware) problem but you've got a Mini hardware problem.
I was listening to some music through my headphones on my jam and I got a call, so i pulled the headphones out of the jack. Once i did that no sound would come out of the speakers, not even after many soft resets. I could still hear sound when i put my headphones back in, but nothing when i took them out. Then i tried making a call and pulling the headphones out of the jack while in the call and that fixed it. It must put the hardware in some bad state if you pull headphones out when there's a call?
i had this problem to but i've fixed it! hard resets doesn't seem to work so i pulled the battery out for a night and my speaker was working again try it!

Speaker And Mic Problem after Upgrading to WM6

Hi all, i have a problem after upgrade my SPV C600 from WM5 to WM6.
after finish the upgrading, i could play my windows media player and could make a phone call without any problem.
after a while after i plug in my earpice to listen music, it went good as well.
after plug it off (earpiece not attached), when i play windows media player, i cant hear anything and i try to make a phone call also the same, no sounds came out from speaker and from loudspeaker as well. but when i plug in the earpice everything goes smoothly, meaning that i can listen music and communicate with others when make a phone call.
before that i tried to ensure whether i face the software or hardware problem by setting the ringtone (start->setting->sound). but the sound could come out from the speaker.
after that i guess that the speaker (hardware) has no problem.
as to play windows media player and setting ringtone are using the same speaker.
can anyone tell me whats happening with my phone?
i believe that it is software related problem.
thanks in advance
my advise is to reboot your phone at me this works...

i have tried to reboot and hard reset as well
but i can only listen music and make a phone call when i use my earpice
Please state which ROM you are using, we recommend Andot's PEE
I too have this exact problem any solution other than hard reset - dont need the pain of downloading resinstalling all my stuff - especially if its going to happen again.

Tornado mic and speaker for phone not working
It rings and plays sounds but it appears that the hardware microswitch that sets it to wired-headset mode is stuck. I cannot set it back. Also: it switched into this mode when I rebooted (soft). I did not add or remove a 2.5mm jack. Is there a registry setting to override the microswitch sensor and keep it out of headset mode?
Hi, this is my first post and hope helpfull everybody, possibly i was the same problem over ALL ROM (wm6 & wm6.1), searching for any solution (my specific trouble was that if i wanna listen music over any player: ( a.k.a windows media, pocket player, etc), i dont had a normal sound from the speaker, the sound was distorsioned, low... horrible, the only solution was insert the plug from the headset and out , but, power off the phone and... again, sucks really ), i return to a Wm5 Rom (imate) and solve the problem, but, tired for the slow performance of WM5, search for other rom, sacrify the music listen ( but i have a good mp3 player...), and, the same problem.
I found in the web (no remember the page) that the SRS plug-in anytimes cause troubles with the sound output, i try to install any ROM WITHOUT this complement, the ROM from Rickywatt Tornado Neo/shadow no have this plugin, install and ...Eureka, no more the issue, follow my instint, i install the SRS plug in, reboot and... the fuc%$& problem, hard reset and the phone witout the problem... conclusion, the SRS was the monster.
You can try this "method", most of rom carry or include from the "kitchen" this SRS dll, but installing the rom from Rickywatt (fast, clean... beautiful, only without the spanish lang, but, nothing is perfect...), can solve the issue, for me ,cors, i dont know for you (my phone is a HTC sda).
For the mic, really i dont have idea , any bad registry, entry, etc :-(, i never have this issue, good luck...
Greetings from colombia (sorry for my poor English)

That's not controlled by software. Try plugging and unplugging a headset several times, twisting it around to clean the contacts. It should clean and close contact for built in speaker to work again. Think of a circuit. If its closed, you have built in speaker. If it opens and you have a headset pluged in, then audio flows thru the headset. It won't go back to speaker until that circuit is closed again. Its mecanical, not software, so you can't do anything with registry.

the same for me
well
the only fix i got was to disasemble and remove the swithch leaving its contacts as exposed as possible, the soldered a wire between 2 of the 3 connectors, hey presto all working, headset hole then filled with glue from glue gun
very rough but it worked....
as an after thought though see if youve updated your radio software, stranger things have happened if youve been into flashing with 3rd party roms

[Q] Odd sound problem

Long story short, I just picked up an AT&T HTC One X(Stock everything, S-on, not rooted) off ebay as a "fixer upper". The seller said the speaker and microphone wasn't working and included the parts. After changing them out, still no sound. I have also tried syncing my bluetooth headset and I don't get any sound through there, nor do headphones work, videos won't play. When I attempt to use voice search, the Google Search application crashes and doesn't give a chance to record anything.
I have tried doing a factory reset through the phone and through the bootloader, but the audio problem still exists. I think the phone had water damage, I need to clean up the board good first. Is there a chance that only the audio processor shorted out? Does anyone know where this chip is located?
Firmware version 3.18, running 4.1.1
So I have given the board an ultrasonic bath in M.E.K and gave it 24 hours to fully evaporate. Put the phone back together, but the audio still doesn't work at all, even replaced the bottom mic/back speaker ribbon. And also usb doesn't work in the phone, or fastboot. The computer just see's an unknown usb device when it's connected. Device Manager shows an unknown usb device, and under hardware ID it just says USB\UNKNOWN.
Anyone have any ideas on anything I could try to fix the audio, or the USB problem??

Audio jack detection issue since MM upgrade

Hello there.
Since updating to MM I have the following issue on my Z5: When inserting headphones or an aux cable, the phone switches back and forth between headphones and speaker for a couple of seconds, before finally settling on headphones and playing as it should. This is a problem because I have a Tasker task that relies on headphone detection and now it doesn't work properly.
I had the issue with the small apps after upgrading, so I already did a system reset, which solved the small apps issue, but not the headphones issue.
Already tried disabling SmartConnect and booting in SafeMode. No luck.
There is apparently another person with this issue on the Sony forums, so I'm not the only one.
Anyone know a solution?
Cheers,
Alex
I have the same issue, but only with the aux cable. When I connect my earphone, everything seems to be fine. So I think maybe the phone has some issue with one particular model of aux input? because there are several type of aux plug now.

I have had this problem with other Z series phones but not the Z5 yet.
As reported above my phone when I plug just headphones stereo only (two contact plug) into the phone gives me an ear icon for headphone optimisation and with an automatic headphones actions.
If I plug a headset in (three contact plug) I get additional headset options, plus automatic headset actions.
My guess is you have a conflict with the Sony built in functionality and the Takser task you mention.
@xperia z3 I have only had this happen previously if my headphone hadn't fully located in the headphones jack
So, how can this be fixed?

my guess would be try to disable any apps trying to hijack the sonys built in process and see if that fixes the issue

I have done a system repair through PC Companion and the problem is still there, on a fresh setup, with no 3rd party apps. I'll wait a while to see if there's an update that might fix this, if not I'll have to send the phone in. Luckily I bought it in late December, so I have still time to use my warranty.
Edit: Oh, and the issue with the small apps is still there, I have found out that it's caused by active accessibility settings, in my case tasker, but others have that same problem with other apps.
i'm dealing with the same exact thing. i did a factory reset, and it still persists. at first i thought it was hardware, then i installed soundabout. when i force output through wired headset they work fine leading me to believe this is software related. really frustrating, not sure what else to do.

Not your typical headphone jack issue.

Hi guys im looking to see if anyone has any input on this issue.
Firstly the phone is a Pixel 1 running the current android beta. the phone works as it should but since the last update during the day if im listening to audio with my wired headphones i get a loud pop and all audio to the headphones is disabled but the song/podcast im listening to continues to play on (no sound), ok i thought maybe the usual lint in the port, so turned the phone off and i cleaned it out (very small piece in there) . Headphones worked for a bit again the POP again and the same thing happened. Im starting to think it may not be the actual port as restarting the phone lets me use the jack again, which leads me to think its a software issue as apposed to hardware??
So so far ive:
-cleaned headphone jack
-tried an alternate pair of headphones
-done a factory reset
If anyone has any input that would be great, the only other thing i can think to do is remove myself from the beta and go back to standard?
Thanks in advance
