[Q] Restore stock /system/ partition to get OTA?

Hello everyone! Since 5.0.1 is rolling out on many Moto G (1st gen and 2014 ones) I would like to get the OTA update to keep my data and get the last android firmware! I've got a Moto G (1st gen) with EURetail.en.EU 4.4.4 firmware , which I rooted to install some apps that required superuser's permissions. Do I need to flash the whole firmware to get it as "stock" and then get the update or can i just uninstall busybox and SuperSU to bring it as it was before rooting? I've also heard that, from 5.0.1 and on , if you've modified the /system/ partition you won't be able to get any OTA updates: what do you suggest me to do?
Thanks in advance!! :good:

UP. Can't anyone just tell me if in the original system partition there was busybox or if I could brick the phone while uninstalling BusyBox?
( I'm not English, and my grammar sucks a bit, I hope that everyone who reads this understands what I mean.. )
You have 2 options:
a)
Flash using TWRP or CWM the stock EU 4.4.4 image using the zip from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/development/rom-stock-motorola-rom-collection-t2854688
and then if you want download the stock recovery and flash it using fastboot.
b)
Use this guide to return complete stock using fastboot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
//If you uninstall busybox and supersu the phone will be ok. The OTA from what I heard needs untouched system partition and then you need to follow on of the options above.
Thank You very much for your answer. So basically even if I uninstall busybox and su I won't be sure that the system partition will be considered as untouched to get the OTA. So the best way is to flash stock rom and wait for the update!
This is what I wanted to know, thanks and happy holidays!

you will be able to download the OTA but not install it.
unrooting and uninstalling the xposed, and flashing stock recovery will not work.
I suggest you to back up the OTA zip file after it downloads to the computer (/cache/ folder - its outside the sdcard directory)
you will need root to backup the OTA zip file (use ES File Explorer with Root options)
now flash the stock 4.4.4 firmware (the one that got the OTA update) with fastboot
the Lollipop update checks if the system folder was modified in any way. if it has, the update will fail

Problem is once the bootloader is unlocked, it can't be relocked until stock firmware image is flashed. I was searching for relocking bootloader in non-gpe moto g but no gain. Relocking process in gpe moto g is working very well though.
I have a rather different scenario . . i have stock ROM, custom recovery, unlocked bootloader and root access . .i tried to get the official lollipop update, but it got rejected due to low internal memory . .then after clearing memory, when i check for system updates , it says my "software is up to date" while it is still in kitkat!! . .i have been then checkin for updates again and again for days but still no use . .plz what should i do to get the official update? . .i have seen lots of others asking the same thing in different sites.but no answer.

Flashing new OTA update on rooted MotoG3

Motorola has released new OTA update of 371.4 MB in India.
I read that since I am a rooted user I must not try to flash this update.
I would like the help from xda to install these updates. Should I install stock firmware 6.0.1 first?
Two ways to do it
1. Flash stock ROM 6.0from factory firmware link. Allow ota to download and phone should upgrade to 6.0.1
2. Flash the 6.0.1 stock ROM which is made available in factory firmware link. -Update: 6.0.1 is already the updated system with the new ota of 371mb.
Option 2 is more convenient.
While upgrading to mm 6.0 via ota, on my rooted phone I had tried flashing the stock recovery and cleaning the root. but it did not help and I landed with a soft bootloop. The ota checks for the original fingerprint of the stock system which is why you need to be on stock firmware for the ota update method.
You need stock recovery and stock firmware.

What if i update rooted moto g 2015 from marshmallow 6.0 to latest available?

I have a rooted moto G 3rd gen with stock rom and marshmallow 6.0. now phone is showing option to upgrade it.?? should i uograde it? what will happen if a upgrade>?
It will fail and you will have a non-bootable device most likely...
You must restore stock recovery and remove root... if you have Xposed installed or made any other changes to system you will have to restore your pre-modification backup in TWRP, or return to pure stock.
No NOT take the update... but if you do and it bootloops, in TWRP clear cache and it should be bootable again.
BTW, what model and android version are you on and what is being offered to you? To my knowledge there are no new updates recently.
