Mi4c not support radioFM? - Xiaomi Mi 4C

I do not understand how the Mi4i has radioFM and Mi4c no. If they are very similar, except the processor and the IR Blaster.

You'll have to use the earphones for it to work

Additional hardware may be required for the FM radio, I'm happy to lose this for the other updated internals

[Q] FM Transmitter

I had thought about getting one for the G1, but I kinda forgot about it.
I remembered just now that it would be nice to have one now that I have a new phone, but I wouldn't mind knowing if any of you guys have any experiences and recommendations of a good FM transmitter that I can use.
I found one on Amazon with mostly good reviews, but it seems that most of them are for the Hero, G1, MT3G and Droid. So I'm a bit apprehensive about just buying it without researching first.
Here's the one I'm looking at:
http://www.amazon.com/Advanced-System-Transmitter-Charger-ANDROID/dp/B002UKTABI
If there are cheaper or better quality FM transmitters, please let me know.
Thanks!
I'd wait on this. It appears that an FM receiver AND transmitter is in the chipset capabilities of the G2, but the question is did they connect an antenna to it. It just got eMMC perma-root, so hold on a week or so--custom ROMs, possibly with this capability, are on their way.
Sweet. I didn't think an FM transmitter could be added within a ROM. That would be awesome!

It can't, but the FM transmitter is already there, so we just need to get software to support it.
If I recall correctly, the Nexus One had the same theoretical capabilities based on it's hardware, however, at this point nobody has taken advantage if it there either :-(

Don't we just need a kernel module and some userland software to interface with it?
Wanted to know if anyone has looked into this any further.

It needs not only kernel module (drivers) and userland interface, but also framework support as well. This is similar to A2DP audio redirection to bluetooth. The kernel has to be able to communicate with the audio device, the framework has to be able to redirect the audio there, and the user has to be able to configure and enable/disable it. It's a big project.

They are talking about an FM Transmitter not Receiver Richierich... Yes FM Receiver works fine on CM and Desire roms but we want the Transmitter so we can send audio to the car radio.

Small, light phone w/built in AM FM radio + CyanogenMOD capable?

I'm looking for a small, very light weight phone to be used only for walking my dog and projects around the house. It needs to be:
1) LIGHT WEIGHT for putting in pocket while walking dog/jogging
2) Built in AM/FM Radio
3) Loud enough built-in speakers
4) Bluetooth
5) AOSP ROM compatible (cyanogenmod stuff)
Any suggestions? I don't care if it's CDMA or GSM because it'll never get a SIM card.

NO CM version will ever support stock radio. You can use SpiritFM as a real good AM/FM solution

Actually, it looks like CM is supporting radio now. It's one of the features on the OnePlus phone. Hopefully that support will roll out to other phones now that CM knows how to work this aspect of hardware.

[Q] Fm Radio?

Is it at all possible to use the FM radio with CM12.1?
I have tried a few different apps and old mods and none seem to work.
Any ideas?
Anyone?
as i know after installing costum rom like CM, you’ll lose Beats audio, which is actually a decent bass booster for your music apps. You’ll also lose the proprietary app for your FM radio. Unfortunately, the HTC FM Radio API is not available to other apps, so if you use the radio a lot then CM isn’t for you.
but please wait to expert users comment on this issue .
I remember some discussions about that and also remember that for using FM radio you need kernel support. There was an alternative FM radio app (not the one from HTC) and I recall some users reported that it's working. To be honest I never used my phone for listening music/radio so I never paid attention to such things. You might try with some of the custom kernels available (Frosted/Bricked, Mrak, IceCode) and see if FM radio works @javelinanddart or @Loreane Van Daal could have something to add here, I think they were also checking that feature

Yeah I think stock CM has Iris Radio FM Support
Spirit2 works great and there's a free (granted, less featured) version to try and see if you like it.
I used it and it worked wonderfully, only thing is (as always) you need headphones for the antenna.
Maybe it's just me, but it seems like Spirit2 doesn't get as good reception as the stock HTC FM Radio app but that only works on Sense ROMs
I installed FM radio on cm ROM and it works fine . thanks

Installing a GSI image on the Mi Mix 2s

So in about 15 hours I can unlock my phone finally. First thing I want to try is to install an AOSP Rom from the Treble thread. Did anyone already did this if so how and is everything working well?
I'm going to try it tommorow, if anyone is willing to upload the stock camera app I would be very grateful. So I can try if that app works on a stock Android Rom.
I did try it and mobile data didn't work for me, so I didn't test any further. Also the screen flickers sometimes.
you guys should know that treble is intended towards OEMs and not end users. Treble is nowhere near stable and oyu will have to wait for xiaomi to fix it.
and also you need xiaomis framework in order to use any of the miui apps. Since it is closed source you wont be able to use the camera ever on a custom rom.

You sure about the part with the camera? For example with the mi mix 2 you can use the camera on aosp based custom roms.
Edit: Or are you talking about treble roms specifically?

Sorry I misunderstood you. I thought you said that the camera won't work on aosp based roms at all... This is why I was curious because I was sure I saw mi mix 2 phones with a working cam on aosp. I never owned a xiaomi device before, is the camera quality really that much worse than with miui cam app?

Well normally the biggest downsides of custom roms is inferior camera quality (for the reason stated above). Especially on custom roms for xiaomi phones since they hardly released any sources. Nowdays it changed a bit, google camera port delivers (sometimes) better quality photos if used right.

Ok, thanks for the explanation, in 4 years with the 1+1 camera quality never was important for me... let's hope the best for a good cam quality on custom roms for the 2s, if there will be any...
which other hardware features would we lose on an aosp rom on the mix 2s?
would the fingerprint scanner still work to unlock the phone?
what about pulling the status bar down with the fingerprint scanner?
and face unlock?
camera quality is usually the biggest drawback when switching to custom roms though. when I first heard of project treble I thought that this issue would be gone! i got the impression that the hardware drivers would stay in one partition and over it you could install an AOSP rom. sounded like the best of both worlds! running an aosp rom but still having the same camera quality!
I'm pretty sure that's not the case though. as soon as you flash an aosp rom on a treble device you're back to the point where we've always been. it's just like running a custom rom a year ago. you lose the features, drivers,...
correct me if I'm wrong!

Well, these features are mostly implemented in system software. If the fingerprint gesture is present as a default feature in AOSP, you will have it when you flash a treble rom. If AOSP supports two cameras, you will be able to use them by default in treble etc.
The features generally depend whats implemented in AOSP.
(Assuming that xiaomi implemented treble in the way which is specified by google)

what would you recommend to a western user to get the best out of the camera? To use it default's OS?
I'm planning on buying a Chinese model (my gf is going to China, idk if they sell Global version there) and change it by hand to a global version with google and all. Is that a bad idea?

You can just flash global rom or xiaomi.eu Rom, it works just fine for me (I'm from Germany). Camera quality is the same as it is with China Rom. If you buy Chinese version and flash global rom there is no real difference to buying global version (except some Lte bands you probably don't need anyway)
Edit: just saw in another thread that you said you need band 28, I think only 256gb Chinese version or 64gb and 128gb global version have Band 28 so you either have to get the 256gb version or buy a global version

I've tried the AOSP one and it is working surprisingly well, apart from the screen flickering when locking/unlocking and obviously the camera which is normal. The rest of them should perform identically.

Nope, I didn't report it as I went back straight to MIUI so I couldn't have provided any additional feedback to the dev. It wasn't a huge problem for me though as it flicks between min and max brightness only once or twice and only during locking/unlocking (during the usual AOSP screen fading animation). Might report it one day when I'd be in mood to try it again.

is general gsi roms good enough

is general gsi roms good enough for our device or is it better to wait for specific rom that is well modified for our device??? In other words is there any general gsi rom that is good enough and has major hardware parts working (camera, wifi, hotspot, brightness, bluetooth... Etc) ???
Thanks
Has anyone tried Havoc OS ROM ?
Generally speaking they're good enough to use assuming you can get them installed on you phone. I was using Phh's unofficial Ressurection Remix Rom for a while, and the biggest issue I had was the fingerprint sensor acting as a mouse button when the screen was on. Otherwise everything was very smooth and worked like what I expected them too. Battery life might have been a bit worse than it was on MIUI. I've had similar results on all of Phh's ROMs, although I haven't really tried images from too many other developers.
Installing them can be a struggle. It seems like half of the time I try to flash one I need to wipe everything on the phone to get it to work, but other times I can flash them with no issues. That's not specific to GSI images though. I've probably wiped my phone (system and storage contents) half a dozen times because I accidentally soft bricked my phone trying to flash something. That's probably more user error more than anything else.
I have also never been able to get gapps to flash on a GSI ROM. I've always had to use ones with them built in.
I ended up going back to MIUI because the GCam mod wasn't working properly, and a large reason for buying the phone was for the camera. I'll probably go back to Treble images once the major ROMs start releasing Pie variants, assuming we don't get some native ROMs first.

I flashed a lot of them. Most have bugs as you can imagine e but that's not the rom's or devs fault.
I had installed
Official Resurrection ReMix
Phh treble AOSP
Pixel Experience version 8.1 and 9
Polaris Pixel experience
Google extended
All with similar bugs/features. The 8.1 versions work pretty well, the pie versions have all the same bugs. But they are daily driver material in my opinion if you can do without some functions. Some of them have enough no working camera, others have trouble with NFC and bluetooth.
Others have distorted sounds (which can be easily fixed).
Just browse the treble development thread and find out what fits best for you.
I'm using pixel experience official 8.1 and 9 unofficial (on two separate MiMix2S) and so far it works for me.
I think the best by now is the official 8.1 PE rom. Most of the things I'm using do work really well. Now I'm eagerly waiting for the Polaris Pixel Experience Pie rom...hope it will arrive soon.
I think we own a not very popular device so devs are rare but there are some of them doing a great job and working on those issues. Maybe some could donate some bucks like I did to keep them motivated and show some appreciation for their hard work.
I've had the best experience with the Benzo 9.0 ROM.
How is the camera on GSI roms? One of the reasons I updated from the mix 2 to the mix 2s was for the camera.
Is it comparable to MIUI?, or total ****?
I am using the AOSP 9.0 rom by @phhusson: https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/releases
Apart from the camera, I'm not aware of any known issues. Bluetooth, NFC, Sound and Calling issues have all been resolved (thank you very much @phhusson). I guess there are other issues I did not hit yet
The camera app I use is from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xi...ed-p-mix2s-t3838406/post77529938#post77529938
Its possible to take good pictures (without color issues) but some feature like HDR, portrait don't work.
As a base for this rom, I use the most current global beta from here:

If it's the aosp ROM by phhusson it's stock Android and works smooth but lacks some features IMHO. Nothing fancy but a great leap forward in treble development. Great guy developing good and stable roms.
