Is it at all possible to use the FM radio with CM12.1?
I have tried a few different apps and old mods and none seem to work.
Any ideas?
Anyone?
as i know after installing costum rom like CM, you’ll lose Beats audio, which is actually a decent bass booster for your music apps. You’ll also lose the proprietary app for your FM radio. Unfortunately, the HTC FM Radio API is not available to other apps, so if you use the radio a lot then CM isn’t for you.
but please wait to expert users comment on this issue .
I remember some discussions about that and also remember that for using FM radio you need kernel support. There was an alternative FM radio app (not the one from HTC) and I recall some users reported that it's working. To be honest I never used my phone for listening music/radio so I never paid attention to such things. You might try with some of the custom kernels available (Frosted/Bricked, Mrak, IceCode) and see if FM radio works @javelinanddart or @Loreane Van Daal could have something to add here, I think they were also checking that feature

Yeah I think stock CM has Iris Radio FM Support
Spirit2 works great and there's a free (granted, less featured) version to try and see if you like it.
I used it and it worked wonderfully, only thing is (as always) you need headphones for the antenna.
Maybe it's just me, but it seems like Spirit2 doesn't get as good reception as the stock HTC FM Radio app but that only works on Sense ROMs
I installed FM radio on cm ROM and it works fine . thanks

Ok, I've been on here a while and I've flashed many custom ROMs and many radio versions for my HTC P4600. And I know that the "best" radio version for one person may not be the best for another person based on their location, etc. But, that's my problem.
I tend to travel on occasion and I need my phone to have at least as good of reception as everyone else when I'm away because I use it for work. I can't really go to Wyoming and "test" which radio works best there, then go to Orlando and "test" which radio works best there, much less keep several radio versions to flash before I get there. I've read on here that some level of experimentation is necessary to find what works best, but I can't really go cross-country and try each version out ahead of time.
I know that "what's the best radio version" is a topic that tends to get flames, "read the sticky you noob!" type comments, etc. but I'm really wondering if anyone who does a lot of traveling in the U.S. has a radio version that seems to be at least universally average on their Raphael. Maybe not the absolute best, mind you, but one that works pretty reliably well in a variety of locations. My current ROM is in my signature line, as is my radio version. I'm only using radios that are compatible with the Raphael (not trying to port over another device's radio or anything).
So, is there a "best" radio for general use in a variety of locations?

(Sparking his lighter, Bruce responds.....)
I think the radio performance depends on your carrier and location, for example a radio on an A&T device will work the same on the same network (AT&T) regardless of where it is.
But since this forum is international, thats where you run into the location issue.
Best to look at Mods or Seniors that have the same carrier and are in the same network and test those radios.
Some may prefer better HSDPA than GPS which is a trade off for some radios.
The radio in your signature should work just about as good as any other radio out there.
That helps greatly

When I hear discussions on "radios" I always though we was talking about the FM radio. So are we talking about the phone radio software or the FM radio?

Radio ROMs available for your Raphael
The Radio stack in your Raphael is responsible for the connections via GSM and UMTS(3G) - things such as reception and download speeds, etc are affected by the radio stack. Generally some issues with poor reception and bad call quality can be remedied by updating your radio stack using one of the versions found below.
The radio stack is not responsible for wifi or bluetooth connections. This is catered for by the drivers inside the ROM itself.
To find out your current radio version, go to start>settings>system(tab)>Device Information. Your radio version will be displayed there along with some other information about your ROM and protocol versions.

I had thought about getting one for the G1, but I kinda forgot about it.
I remembered just now that it would be nice to have one now that I have a new phone, but I wouldn't mind knowing if any of you guys have any experiences and recommendations of a good FM transmitter that I can use.
I found one on Amazon with mostly good reviews, but it seems that most of them are for the Hero, G1, MT3G and Droid. So I'm a bit apprehensive about just buying it without researching first.
Here's the one I'm looking at:
http://www.amazon.com/Advanced-System-Transmitter-Charger-ANDROID/dp/B002UKTABI
If there are cheaper or better quality FM transmitters, please let me know.
Thanks!
I'd wait on this. It appears that an FM receiver AND transmitter is in the chipset capabilities of the G2, but the question is did they connect an antenna to it. It just got eMMC perma-root, so hold on a week or so--custom ROMs, possibly with this capability, are on their way.
Sweet. I didn't think an FM transmitter could be added within a ROM. That would be awesome!

It can't, but the FM transmitter is already there, so we just need to get software to support it.
If I recall correctly, the Nexus One had the same theoretical capabilities based on it's hardware, however, at this point nobody has taken advantage if it there either :-(

Don't we just need a kernel module and some userland software to interface with it?
Wanted to know if anyone has looked into this any further.

It needs not only kernel module (drivers) and userland interface, but also framework support as well. This is similar to A2DP audio redirection to bluetooth. The kernel has to be able to communicate with the audio device, the framework has to be able to redirect the audio there, and the user has to be able to configure and enable/disable it. It's a big project.

They are talking about an FM Transmitter not Receiver Richierich... Yes FM Receiver works fine on CM and Desire roms but we want the Transmitter so we can send audio to the car radio.
Dear all,
after buying the i9023 AND realizing there's no FM Radio App which supports the built-in-FM chip (BCM4329) I have a - hopefull simple - "request":
I would really appreciate _everey_ effort if someone of the (xda) Android-developers think about to start with the rollout of an APK to support simple activating and finally listening to good old FM Radio with the Nexus S.
After reading nearly all of the comments on this issue I know I'm not totally alone.
Any help or comments to move forward on this issue is very much appreciated!

N1 has already got one..via cyanogenMod 7
waiting something simillar for NS as well.
From what I've read, although the chip in the Nexus S does have FM capabilities, it may or may not be wired properly for actual utilization. I think there are developers looking into this issue, but it's not guaranteed that the Nexus S will be able to use FM radio. I guess don't give your hopes up, but I don't think it's going to be an easy thing either.

The answer to your question is: I like turtles. (credit goes to id10terrordfw for that one)
But seriously, the reason I said "I like turtles" is because sometimes that question has no clear answer. If you're not having any issues using the stock radio, then there is no reason to change it. Some developers recommend a particular radio because it has worked for great for them and has been trouble-free in hundreds of hours of their testing. But that doesn't necessarily mean other radios won't work just fine. One thing to keep in mind is many Inspire ROMs are ports from Desire HD ROMs, so a lot of these ROMs will recommend a radio that came out on the DHD, because the developer actually owns that phone and that's the radio he uses. Usually, for any ROM that recommends the latest Desire HD radio version, the latest Inspire radio version will work just fine also. So any ROM that recommends version 09.04.11, version 06.06.30 on the Inspire should work just as good in most, if not all, situations.

The problem there, Henry, is that timeless concept of... The grass is always greener...
That other radio *might* give me 6 out of 5 bars signal strength where I had -1 before, not to mention 10 gazillion kb/s down, and 5 gazillion kb/s up.

Ha ha, that is true. I'm the same way. Myself, I've tried every damn radio/RIL out there multiple times. From a previous "gotta flash a radio per day" addict like me, my story to lee_ was to try to keep someone from going down that same path. If someone starts going down that slippery slope, I tried to warn them.
yea im just going to use the one on the other post with the radios. i was wondering the same thing what the recommended radio did better but answer has already been posted guess i will just try all radio and see which one fits my needs(speeds) lol
i too had many issues flashing a radio to my phone and i use a mac. its easy if u have eng off but i didn't want to do that. i finally downloaded the radio from that link so it was already pkged and all i had to do was to put it on the root of my sd and it worked perfectly
Starting this to clear up space hopefully in the developer thread as I am no developer just a user that really loves this rom and want to help by having questions that are not developmental here also if you want to say that this rom is the best just to say it please do it.
By not developmental I mean what kernels are working for you, possible workaround apps, your roms settings, advanced app that just works better than maybe a pre-installed etc.pretty much anything you would want to say in the rom thread that you know someone is probably gonna say that should be somewhere else.
If Bruce wants me to take this down I will but figured it may help some.
Here is a list of working and not working functions
Thanks to Bruce 2728 and cm team for great work also anyone else that is helping with development have a good day

Says in the original thread "Bluetooth partially working" and "Wifi Working" I have found this to be the other way round for me with Bluetooth working fine and Wifi partially working? Wifi working beautifully for me here. Actually getting reception in the back rooms of my house that I usually don't. As for BT... I can't say as I don't ever use it.
I'm using the Tamcore kernel for overclocking purposes and as a result, the Bluetooth behavior I'm seeing won't be the same as others are experiencing necessarily, but I'll add it for the sake of the few who are also using this kernel.
Pairing is working - I can see my laptop from the Sensation and vice versa. However, when I attempt to transfer files from the laptop to the phone, the transfer fails with an error that states the type of file cannot be transferred. Seeing as it's a simple .rtf file, that is a highly unlikely scenario and something else is going on there.
That's all I have re this issue, but hopefully it will strike a chord with the devs and point toward a fix.
Meantime, there is also some interference between music playback via Apollo and GPS activity - pauses happen seemingly in sync with the GPS doing stuff in the background. The rest of the time, playback is flawless.
Played some video on YouTube and had no issues. Didn't try full screen though but will update when I've had the chance to do so.
Camera, as noted elsewhere, cannot be found by the app.
Apps other than Phone are unable to use the mic so voice search, G Now, Gstrings guitar tuner and so on won't work as yet.
WiFi is working and I get 10Mb's down no probs. GPS is outstanding... getting GPS lock indoors in 8 seconds.
Occasional graphics glitches, but rare and not debilitating.
Not seeing the UI smoothness experienced by others, but should add that my ICS install was already smooth. Or maybe my expectations were unrealistic.
That's about it. No doubt the next fixes from bruce2728 will render these comments moot.
Cheers,
