Jb rom questions and talk thread for bruce 2728 cm10 alpha kang thread - HTC Sensation

Starting this to clear up space hopefully in the developer thread as I am no developer just a user that really loves this rom and want to help by having questions that are not developmental here also if you want to say that this rom is the best just to say it please do it.
By not developmental I mean what kernels are working for you, possible workaround apps, your roms settings, advanced app that just works better than maybe a pre-installed etc.pretty much anything you would want to say in the rom thread that you know someone is probably gonna say that should be somewhere else.
If Bruce wants me to take this down I will but figured it may help some.
Here is a list of working and not working functions
Thanks to Bruce 2728 and cm team for great work also anyone else that is helping with development have a good day

Haha it's very to the point, hopefully people take notice and use this. One suggestion: in your OP, you might want to make a list of what works and what doesn't, just to keep it up to date so that it mirrors the dev pages progress. Otherwise, thanks!

Says in the original thread "Bluetooth partially working" and "Wifi Working" I have found this to be the other way round for me with Bluetooth working fine and Wifi partially working? Wifi just scans saying "Scanning for network" and never finds anything. Not sure if this is the same for everyone or not? Looks like a fix for wifi as well as Google Now maybe imminent though if you look here: https://github.com/febycv

Wifi working beautifully for me here. Actually getting reception in the back rooms of my house that I usually don't. As for BT... I can't say as I don't ever use it.

I'm using the Tamcore kernel for overclocking purposes and as a result, the Bluetooth behavior I'm seeing won't be the same as others are experiencing necessarily, but I'll add it for the sake of the few who are also using this kernel.
Pairing is working - I can see my laptop from the Sensation and vice versa. However, when I attempt to transfer files from the laptop to the phone, the transfer fails with an error that states the type of file cannot be transferred. Seeing as it's a simple .rtf file, that is a highly unlikely scenario and something else is going on there.
That's all I have re this issue, but hopefully it will strike a chord with the devs and point toward a fix.
Meantime, there is also some interference between music playback via Apollo and GPS activity - pauses happen seemingly in sync with the GPS doing stuff in the background. The rest of the time, playback is flawless.
Played some video on YouTube and had no issues. Didn't try full screen though but will update when I've had the chance to do so.
Camera, as noted elsewhere, cannot be found by the app.
Apps other than Phone are unable to use the mic so voice search, G Now, Gstrings guitar tuner and so on won't work as yet.
WiFi is working and I get 10Mb's down no probs. GPS is outstanding... getting GPS lock indoors in 8 seconds.
Occasional graphics glitches, but rare and not debilitating.
Not seeing the UI smoothness experienced by others, but should add that my ICS install was already smooth. Or maybe my expectations were unrealistic.
That's about it. No doubt the next fixes from bruce2728 will render these comments moot.
Cheers,
R2

What radio / hboot versions are you using? I have forever had wifi problems with my sensation really trying to sort it out been bugging me for days, tried nearly everything i can think of and I been flashing android phones for years now. I know it is not a hardware issue as it works on stock roms but not on CM9 / CM10.

are you using the kernel that was included because I have found that tamcore's cm9 kernel had fully working Wi-Fi and Bluetooth works perfectly for me and is incredibly smooth also
I am currently using it on the Pegasus q governor just to see how it runs so far really smooth @1728 & 432 almost as good as intellidemand going to see how battery is on this governor though

Yes using kernel that was included and I also tried bricked 1.31 aosp kernel both with no joy. I am going to try tamcores cm9 kernel now you said working wifi though! Don't suppose you gotta link to the exact kernel your using do you?

Yes, in hopes that retards might actually read it.

Girlfriend is out of town so I've got nothing to do for awhile so I'm going to flash this and test a bunch of stuff out. If anyone has any requests on apps to test, I'd be glad to download em and give it a whirl. That is, provided I don't bork my phone flashing this directly over Virtuous Inquisition.

Well I tried with Tamcore's 3.0.38 00673 kernel and it doesn't break or fix anything. JB does run a little smoother than stock kernel but still broken wifi

did you reflash rom or just flash kernel maybe try full wipe and reflash with tamcore from start if you didn't already

[Q] GPS problem with InsertCoin 3.4.6-Test

When I try to use GPS with google navigation it takes what seems like forever for the phone to "search for GPS" and usually never finds it. If i'm on the road and hold down the magnifying glass button and say navigate to wherever, it takes so long to find GPS that it's not even worth it. Anybody experience this or know how to fix it?
Thanks

And if I wanted ICS I would have downloaded it but I don't. In my opinion it's still too early to convert to ICS so I prefer 2.3.5. Therefore buddy you didn't even make an attempt at answering my question, just spamming my thread.
Have you tried the various gps/agps fixes? When I was on GB, I was using crypted's fixes. I usually download the google one and delete any suplerootcert files.
Also kernel's don't play well with gps. I always defaulted to the default kernel the rom had. In my experience, faux always borked my gps and bricked worked for a little while, but I always reverted back to the bundled kernel or stock one.
No I haven't tried any of the GPS fixes, I'll have to browse around for them. Any idea where I could find them? I may just need to revert to stock, I've been running bricked and I've really liked it but I'm getting bogged down now for some reason. Thanks for the info.

[Q] ICS & Flash Video

Okay, maybe someone will know the answer to this.
Every single ICS rom I've tried... and I'm pretty sure that's all of them... has had abysmal performance playing flash video through a browser. I'm talking from
jt's original ICS... to
Entropy's ICS...to
uniporn
jblparisi's
remixICS
etc. etc.
Now, just to be clear... all of those ROMs that I mentioned I thoroughly enjoy... they had/have a lot of work put into them, and I thank the devs.
But this puzzles me... I had perfect flash video playback on a number of GB roms... notably AEON... now we move to ICS... and it's incapable of doing the same thing?
Also, whatever the problem is, it is some kind of common thread that runs through every ICS release for the infuse. I've tested. There is no example of this problem not being present.
Anyone have information, or a solution, or have noticed this problem themselves?
Thanks
I do agree with your statement.
I think this is due to the Wi-Fi and data speeds. Unlike GB ROMs, build.prop has not yet been extensively looked at in ICS ROMs. Network speed drops can be expected going from GB to ICS.
Again, this is just my opinion. Do not take my word for it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
You have a good point there, build.prop was not something that had occurred to me.
The only thing that makes me suspicious of that particular theory is...surely all the ICS roms can't have the same build.prop settings, right? So if it was coming from there, I guess I'd be expecting to see some roms performing better or worse than others... and yet when it comes to flash video, they are pretty consistently bad, with little variation.
Thanks for the idea though, I hope that you're right and that this is just something that can be fixed by build.prop rewrites.
You do have adobe flash player installed right? Unlike gingerbread roms I don't know of an ics Rom that comes with flash player installed...when I had the infuse as soon as I installed flash player I never had a problem with flash videos...also I never had a problem with slower network speeds...

Hehehe yeah I'm not that much of a fool =P
I tested everything I'm talking about with flash player installed. ICS can't deal with the video, it sticks and sputters like a broken faucet... super choppy, stops and starts... etc.
I can't testify 100% but I'm pretty sure that my data speeds on ICS are reduced as compared to GB roms.
With Wi-Fi, however, I think the speeds are comparable.
If this was happening on a PC, I could fix it. My first thought would be video driver issues, so I would remove all traces and then install the newest version.
Unfortunately, it's not that simple on Android...
I've read tons of discussions with Entropy and others talking about the video libs, and I remember that while the idea of "perfect smooth video" sounds like something that should be easy/simple to accomplish... it's actually a pretty deep rabbit hole. It seemed to me it's a fairly complex problem that draws on a lot of areas and takes a lot of work to get right.
I just wonder what this could be... what did GB have that ICS doesn't?
thanks for the reply, mg =)

Well...ics is aosp/aokp...so it is highly likely it could be missing some video libs and what not...off the top of ky head I know for a fact that gb has TWframeworks as well as many different libs...I have no infuse to test the choppy video so when I say i never expiernced it that is just based off my memory...basically what in getting at is that your theory is possible

Thanks! yeah, I'm no android expert, I'm just going by what makes sense to me.
Assuming just for a second that video libs were in fact the issue...I have a couple questions.
Is there anyone who would know how to identify the specific source of the problem?
Is there any more information I could somehow get/provide that might help?
Or is this just the kind of issue where... ICS is pretty new still, and in time it will probably be fixed? (wait & see)

Well logcats always help...those say exactly what your phone is doing and provide all errors your phone is receiving...from what I've seen, pony (the guy providing logcats for the miui build) is good with logcats...but he's busy with miui. I'm not even sure if you would find anything useful in the logcat anyway since it is somewhat working...I'm sure it will be fixed in time though
So if you know how to logcat then get one and see what it says...if not than just wait, I'm sure someone will end up working on a fix

How to upgrade the LG G2x P999 to Android 4.1.1 JB via CyanogenMod 10 (Unofficial)

Hi All!
Recently, while surfing through the ocean of ROMs for my LG G2X P999, I came across this ROM. Couldn't find any link related to this on XDA. So thought of pointing the G2X owners to this link:
http://www.androidauthority.com/g2x-p999-t-mobile-cyanogenmod-10-cm10-unofficial-115536/
Flashed it just yesterday. Apart from the Video-recording did not notice any bugs so far. In fact I haven't used it enough to comment on bugs. But I can confirm that Calls and Wifi are both working fine.
If any one knows any prior publication of this work on XDA; please let me know so we can avoid duplicates.

I tried a couple different versions of CM7 over the past few days, and its nothing but a nightmare. It will run flawlessly for hours and then something quirky will happen and I either cant get data, or cant make calls, or my screen locks up, and im rebooting the phone or looking for a fix on google. Wound up just going back to the stock rom with faux123 kernel.

Well the problem is that other developers take the vanilla cm7 code and tweak/mod the hell out of it which is always awesome but they put out an unstable build/ROM. If you haven't tried vanilla CM7.2 from get.cm (latest build) then you're missing out. I have had the ROM installed running with mazout's latest kernel for over a week now and its been running extremely well. All and any problems that I experienced with this setup were directly due to ignorance and human error as I'm still a flaming n00b. At the same time they were great learning experiences and easily fixed.

The problem is going to lie in your setup somewhere.
Maybe kernel level as it is known that some G2xs will run great on Trinity but crash on Faux and vice versa. That's just a quick example.
I've run vanilla CM7 for like 13 months now and do not encounter the issues you are describing.
Soooo...what's your setup.

You are late to the party... This device is a dying device. There's 1 dev working on a CM7 Kernel and that's about it. More than likely we will never see fully working 4.1.1 or higher on our device. That's almost all true! I have another old phone, Mytouch4g/HTC Glacier. On that one I am running 4.2.2 and there is a lot of development still on. Huge number of ROMs which can be used as daily drivers. But here we don't even have a perfectly working 4.0.4. But again, no complain to Developers. they have tried really hard with a lot of time invested in this device. All the blame on LG.
This phone is lightning fast on 2.3.X variants. still very much usable. I may be late to the party, but the party is yet not over
I just want to chime in that I used this and the phone is working. The camera seems slower (and therefore more blurry). Other than that everything that I use (I do not use bluetooth, tethering, or wi-fi calling) is working. It's about the same speed as CM7 I had on here before. Don't know about battery since I only just did it.
If anyone knows any tricks for the camera please share. I babysit a toddler and his face is often blurry in photos. I'm pretty sure with this new ROM it will be even more blurred. I have already removed the plastic cover over the camera lens, it's not that issue. This is clearly software as it has gotten slower with this ROM.
We thought we might have a jellybean breakthrough when cm started deving cm10.1 on the p990 and had the courtesy of posting a half port of their work in progress. I believe it's called AdamPK's cm10.1 and is usually found with Mazout360 kernel. Hardware Acceleration Work so no camera, camcorder, sluggish or other problems that plagued the hackfests but they ran into and issue with the radio because O2x and G2x use different radio chips. So you have wifi but no data and battery can't be read correctly but other than that it would be as close to a perfect 4.x as we could get.

Sorry if I caused any confusion or wasn't clear but yeah, there is definitely no radio action in this build. I'm not particularly familiar with the RIL stuff and wasn't involved in getting it going for ICS. I'm sure it will get worked out sooner or later with jblack, liquid, santod, and others working on it. That's not to say I won't continue to mess around with it myself but I wouldn't put any money on me making a breakthrough
The purpose of this build was two-fold...to give people something new to play with if they wanted and also just to let the community know about it as another source to draw from and collaborate with.
It's cool. They are working on it together to try fixing data. Your build helped them with some of the other fixes that they needed which was a good thing. Now that a lot of that is out of they way they can focus on the ril. I also found that I can't transfer files over usb. Pretty much everything else works except for what you listed.

Been running this for a couple days now. Really nice. No major problems, except one instance of the phone failing to properly sense touch and slowing to a crawl. A reboot fixed that. Thank you so much for contributing to the cause! It is much appreciated!

This rom worked great for 2 days but now my thunderbolt is bricked. Won't turn on with battery in or out with usb connected. The light inside the grill won't light up either to notify it is charging. All i did was I left it on the charger. It had been doing this before where it would just randomly be off and i wouldn't be able to turn it on but if i took out the battery and tried again it would boot. I had problems with a cm 10.1 build i found searching google where i would get a blue screen and it would crash at random. But I wiped that rom with everything and flashed this to see if this was more stable then that. Don't know why or what caused this. I'd be careful with running this build though.

Your issue isn't due to this rom. I can assure you of that.
You even stated you were having issues with your device powering on prior to running this,
so why you would claim it to be this rom, is unknown to me.
If you flashed the only CM10.1 build for the Bolt right now, from Jblack and got a blue screen, it was from not having the proper ICS radios installed.
If you are going to run any roms using the Official ICS blobs, then you need to be on the official ICS radios or you will get that blue screen you mentioned.
Sounds like you should be more careful about what you flash and make sure you have the necessary radios prior to flashing a rom.
Also sounds like your device has other issues if it won't power on. Maybe it's your battery.
All I can say for sure, is it isn't due to this rom. This I know for sure.
Just wanted to make that clear as your post seemed very misleading to me.

Audio playback causes device to reboot

At first I thought it was a rom issue, but it happens to be on every 4.2.2 rom I've tried. Then I thought it was a kernel issue - until I tried nitros rom which is blur based 4.1.2.
The problem? I drive a lot, the ability to use apps such as beyond pod, mlb at bat (to listen to my tigers!), tune in radio etc. Is very important to me. If I download a podcast and begin to play it, it's only a matter of time before my phone freezes up and reboots. Same for the other apps I mentioned. Usually it takes less than 5 minutes for my phone to freeze / reboot.
This has happened to me for a while now, and it does seem to get worse on certain roms / nightlies, but virtually across the board, the result is the same. I have tried carbon, liquid smooth, xenon hd, as well as nitros roms.
I am very frustrated at the moment, as I have no real options other than going back to stock, which sucks because I am in love with so many of the features available with the aforementioned custom roms. Any help or feedback would be appreciated!
Edit: meant to post this in help section, I apologize

I've got the same issue, there's some discussion about this at the end of the CM 10.1 thread in the ROMs section. I personally haven't tried the suggested fix, so YMMV.

Have you tried skiralaxs cm10.1 build? I'm currently on the 7/1 build with none of those problems.newest builds for all have a Bluetooth bug. Make sure you wipe everything including data.

I am on his newest nightly as we speak, it seems to be better, I have only had 1 occurrence of the phone locking up while listening to a podcast. Unfortunately, I don't think carbon or liquid smooth are based off that version. Thanks for the suggestion, skrilaxs version does seem better in that regard!

Also, when watching videos (YouTube, hbo go) I am having similar problems on skrilax 7/12.

Moto does know about this, I am having the same issue, and the latest update (the OTA leaking around here) has that listed as one of the fixes. Does not say specific scenarios, but just "reboot issues mitigated". This will be my first full day running it, and I have alot of driving to do, so i'll know in the next couple hours if Moto happened to fix it.

Will do, have had reboots at least once a day since the JB upgrade, so far since yesterday none.. will update later tonight on how it went, should have at least one by then if its not fixed.
Im just hoping whatever moto did can be used to stabilize the AOSP roms too, because audio playback reboots me on those even more than stock did.
Update: I think Moto did it, I drove 70 miles with music playing the whole time and not one reboot. Very impressed, have never gone that long, cept when the phone was on ics..

Awesome! Hopefully the 4.2.2 roms will benefit soon. The two main culprits for me have been listening to to podcasts (beyondpod) and mlb at bat, but I have also noticed watching videos on YouTube can cause the reboots as well, though it takes a video of a decent length to recreate the problem.
Also, there are times I go an hour without a lockup, but once I get one, they begin to occur more frequently. Just my observations. Maybe I'll try the update, what's the easiest way to flash? I'm assuming I need stock recovery etc?

Yeah need stock recovery, and need a sdcard because stock recovery wont read internal memory
After that, if you need to re install recovery and re root gotta do it with adb and fastboot, because the auto utils dont work right anymore, was going nuts thinking things got patched up until I tried it manually and it worked, lol.
The newest nightly build from Skrilax (http://skrilax.droid-developers.org...om/cm-10.1-20130714-NIGHTLY-xt926-skrilax.zip) upgrades to the .86 kernel and fixes the issue. Before this I downgraded to .84 kernel and that didn't have the bluetooth bug based on this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43429334&postcount=1627 by steveo17.

That's too bad... not sure what's going on. I'm having a new problem where the bluetooth will automatically connect to my car hands free profile but not my logitech cigarette lighter bluetooth to aux device. If I go into bluetooth settings and tap to connect, then it works just fine.

It seems to me that there are several issues right now, some may be related but I feel that once one is fixed another pops up. I guess all we can do is test and report what we find.

Bluetooth A2DP seems to have improved with the 7/15 skrilax build (.86 kernel) but I still have cases where it reboots. Appears to be related to the phone trying to mux a second stream. For instance, streaming music to my car's headunit, then start Waze app and when it goes to announce something, phone reboots.
And for me, using N38 (.84 kernel) with the latest nightlies seemed to make the phone laggy.
